  • This VHS tape was included with purchase of Nikon FG that I purchased at Consumer Electronics or Best (not Best Buy) in 1985.
Video is good for explaining Depth of field and how aperture f-stops, shutter speeds and ISO work.

Wow this video is a great UA-cam find. I bought my wife an FG with Nikon Nikkor 35-70 zoom lens and Nikon SB-15 flash unit for a Christmas present in 1985. She took an interest in photography but didn't want to have to fool around all the time with manual exposure setting; the manual/aperture priority auto/full program auto exposure modes along with off-the-film TTL flash metering capability with the SB-15 flash unit was the perfect camera outfit for her; she took many great photographs with hers. Passed on the outfit to my granddaughter three years ago; so it lives on.

It's amazing! It describes all the features of the camera, and by the way teaches you to make better photos. Like an youtube tutoriral from the 80ths. So nice!

The FG goes hugely underappreciated, probably because it was introduced after the successful but basic point-n-shoot EM and replace after a few years by the FG-20, which was a huge reductution of capability and features. (The FG was intolerably eating into sales of the upscale Nikon bodies..) Apart from having nearly every feature of a competing SLR in the early 1980s, it offered a level of features and convenience simply not available on any other Nikon camera of the day. Little known is that the FG was a test-bed to prototype much of the metering system insalled in the Nikon FA about 18 months later. (The FG does not have matrix metering, but it has all of the other features of the FA metering and control systems.) At present pricing in the range of $75 for a good condition model, it is a huge bargain. I bought one many years ago, but sold it because I was more attached to my FE2 and didn't need both. I bought another one a few years ago as a backup.

I just bought a Nikon FG-20 from an older woman who due to medical issues had no use for the camera. It's in mint condition and I hope I do it justice. It's a beautiful camera.

Just found my father's old FG camera and I'm not learning how to shoot on film instead of digital! It is a really nice experience !

Picked up an clean FG with the 50mm 1.8 E series for $20. What a fun little camera. I have a D5600 but find myself using this little gem allot.

Very nice, and incredibly helpful, thanks. Man, I love these classic instructional videos - I was still in high school then, and just got my first FG last week. Am shooting Ilford's XP2 400, and can't wait to see the outcomes.

Thank You for the video! FG isn't as respectable as F3 - F5, but all the way it is really good, convenient and cheap Nikon. I have it now and sometimes I use it: despite the digital age came, I like film photography . Greetings from Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Update..missed the FG so much I picked up another one in 'excellent plus' condition. Although I'm used to 'full manual only' exposure setting film SLR's; the choice of exposure setting modes, and the off-the-film TTL flash metering capability with compatible flash units makes for a very handy and capable film SLR.

I got one of these for $2 with a 50mm 1.8, a 70-210mm, and a 2x teleconverter. I was at first excited about using the vintage lenses on my Canon dslr, but I'm now excited to get batteries for the nikon and use it! It even came with some film and a flash.

In Hindsight, Nikon's Series E Lens were very Good Lenses, however ever at the time, they were snubbed by a lot Nikon Owners because of a bit of Plastic(as in the Aperture Control Ring). Often a 3rd Party Lens was bought instead which, was actually a Poorer Lens than the Series E offering.
