sand or rough up the outer surface with sand paper make it a matte finish it wont reflect as much heat probably make it easier to weld also but your welds look pretty good for what you are using to weld them.

Can confirm that stainless rejects IR heat quite nicely. I see the general recommendation was bead blasting. There are commercial bluing solutions for stainless though not sure if they'd hold up to the environment or if they'd undermind the chrome layer that's so crucial to why stainless is, well stainless.

Apply a lid over the coils that reflect the heat back down on purpose! Re: A polished piece of stainless dome lid

As far as heat distribution, between the coils have you considered taking another stainless steel tube capping off one end pour in some rubbing alcohol preheated and cap off the other end. Use these tubes as a heat distributor.

I am not a physicist by any means but from what we did at work over the years with stainless steel tubing for heat absorption, the print most of the time stated to bead blast the surface for a matt finish. This supposedly made all the difference with that metal type and what the engineer would state and specify. Way cheaper than using any plating for heat resistance. The paint idea I would be leary for sure. The paints today are better than yesteryear but the coating is not that robust for longevity. That is my ten cents fella. Peace

makes sense, all the peaks and valleys from bead blasting increase the surface area and decrease reflectivity. every little bit counts with stainless as it is a rather poor heat transfer material. shame it has other desirable properties that make it the preferred choice.

@@lanceyeakel7674 Years ago steel started to become out of favor because of the RUST aspect of the metal. Copper brass aluminum started to see a shiny horizon. That when chromium steel popped out of the woodworks. Then stainless steel ant the rest is history. Good day Lance. VF

add some vinegar to your tap water. it dissolves calcium buildup, some restaurants use it for their steamers .

You can burn the surface of the coil with bare acetylene flame (no oxygen) it will get nice and black carbon ''paint'' that never burns out.

Do a light bead blasting on the tubing, then apply heat paint or send the tubing out for dark anodizing finish work???

A "Steam Ginny" type boiler would seem a whole lot easier and cheaper to get up that runs off off diesel or kerosene!
Sure, a propane fired super heater that is temperature controlled, such as for a car wash or whatever and is precise
is a good proposition but is not necessarily cost effective! I can however see other applications such as use of this
system in commercial laundry service, hospital settings, aviation perhaps and perhaps steam heating plants such
as in old buildings, once it is scaled up to meet a special purpose boiler systems. Yet the portability as such of this
system doesn't seem too bad! The boiler super coil is quite bodacious and the overall efficiency of your heating method
should be great, but I must say the propane fuel usage just might be still a bit high. Just looking at your primary layout
to concept is pretty damned keen! And so, I must continue to watch on into the completion! You are seeking to make
for a great professional build and your client should be receiving every bit of that! Super video and thanks for showing
    us folks!!

What would it take to make a less powerful flash boiler? Like say max 200psi for model steam engine usage?

I know right , I pulled all the stops on this design , twice the coill size as the test boiler even switched from co flow to counter flow at the last second , knowing the power of the latter , risky ? yes but arent all good things risky ? This is not prius , this is a beast....

and the smoke? it's hot, you could do like the old boilers and add another stage, instead of the middle part have an coil, could be an cylinder with water and tubes with the exhaust of the liquid smoke, heating even more the boiler

I ¹would love to built a flash tube boilerfor my 1/4hp coke bottle engine.
I've got a fifty foot coil of 5/8" copper tubing, but that's it.

Anybody know how to make a water level cut off for a flash boiler that doesn't require any electronics? I would like some kind of solid state device that will cut off the pump automatically without being sensitive to moisture, corrosion, etc.

@@NOBOX7 Good idea. I had a video that showed a process using microelectronics and I knew tht was not a robust long term solution. I am working on a gasifier, but a small turbine or steam engine might last longer than a tiny engine. It is loud and inconvenient to charge batteries with an engine of even a few horsepower. I think smaller is better except for running larger tools and equipment.

Only, Use Stainless Steel Swagelok fitting. They are the Best, At 1000 degrees and At 2000 psi these fitting will hold these pressures. There is NO Substitute for for these Fitting.
