I was wondering how is it that the micro traxion ascender did not engage until I have found the spot where you state that you have purposefully used it in pulley mode :)

Something similar happened to a friend of mine using a rollnlock on the top and a petzl ascension on the bottom, the top one wasn't properly extended and they ended up cancelling each other, luckily he managed to grab the rop to arrest the fall, but lessons were learned that day haha

Oh! This is a great report of this type! It is the first one I hear about like this. RollNLock and Ascension cancelling each other makes total sense to me! Wow. Thanks for the comment!!

Thanks for the informative video. Question: The fixed line in your video appear to be somewhat tensionsed. Assuming you on a TR with some traverse and both ends fixed (with same set up as in your video), but the line has a bit more slack, are the devices still as likely to interact in this way?

I think so... As I say now: there are many ways devices can interact in "bad ways" and it is very difficult to test everything (all combination of devices and in all situations). The reasonable way to reduce risk is to extend the higher device to create a distance of separation. Makes sense?

Thanks Justin! Lighting = garbage (2x Petzl Swift RLs). But at least the sound is good and the snowfall makes everything fairy :-)

Hey, Thanks for the awesome content!
I have a question about extending the top device. I recently started top rope soloing and I found that if you extend the top device, sometimes the bottom one (the backup) catches first and sometimes it creates a loop between the decices which leads to the rope not passing through smoothly.
So I ended up extendig the bottom one (I used petzel pro traxion for the top device and a rope grap from climbing technology).
Do you think it matters which device you extend or is there a specific reason for extending the top one.

If you extend the lower and not the upper, if the upper fails it will slide down and press on the top of the lower device. For some devices, if they are weighted from above and not from the attachment loop they will fail to grab (e.g., Camp Lift). If you extend the upper and not the lower, if the upper fails the lower will be engaged from the attachment point and not from the upper device. So: -Extend the upper (not too far, you don't want to get hit in the face with it). -Use a chest harness (I use a headlamp strap) to hold up the upper device so it will engage first. -The lower device will dangle from the belay loop on its attachment carabiner.
