Lia Shelesh, or as might know her, sniperwolf has gone from a call of duty gamer girl, to the biggest reaction channel on UA-cam. And listen to this, right now she’s getting more monthly views than Mr Beast’s main channel. Now of course she uploads more videos….but it still poses an interesting question, what is SSSniperwolf doing that is different to other youtubers?
Later in this video we’re going to breakdown a sssniperwolf video and I’ll show you some of the secret tactics she uses in her editing, but first, we need to understand something that completely revolutionized her channel. She began to make evergreen videos.
So this change in strategy made a huge difference to SSSniperwolf’s growth, BUT the true genius is actually in her editing. Which takes us on to factor number 2, Lia traps the viewer in her content. The best youtubers in the world make it impossible for viewers to click off their videos.
Another thing that gives her the edge is a little more controversial, but equally as important. SSSniperwolf has become a clickbait master. And stick around because there’s something she does that every youtuber can learn from . In many ways thumbnail are just as important as the actual content. Taking at some of Lia’s most popular videos, a few patterns begin to emerge.

fun fact: when I was 13 I was playing a game called Metal Gear Online 2 (MGS4). I met Lia on MGO2, and we usually played online tournaments together. I remember she started uploading COD videos on UA-cam. The MGO servers were shut down shortly after, and I didn't have any way to contact my MGO2 friends. A year ish later, I recognized her on the youtube homepage and was so surprised to see she had like, 300,000 subscribers after about a year. She's been killing it since she started! (this was in 2011 I believe)
*Edit: just to back this story up, her username sniper wolf, is a direct reference to a character in Metal Gear Solid 1.*

It is scary how good viewers are at working out what you are going to do before you do it. Even if you mix it up with the wordplay they know exactly when you are pitching for subs, winding down or wasting their time in any way. It shows up in the stats.

THIS explains why old videos reandomly go viral. it becomes an evergreen video thats entertaining but is still realivant, despite being old. then the algrythm gives the video one last chance when a trend realted to that old video comes and it sparks an evergreen video.
Yeah. This is kinda related but kinda not but a trick is longevity if you want to make it big. For example, for gamer channels it’s better to pick the #2 game you think will last longer than the #2 game that you think will go by fast

The red in her thumbnails is a psychology thing, its been 'proven' in various different ways that it draws you in, theres a reason she has a red background to her face in pretty much 99.9% of her thumbs.

As someone that has kids that watches her, she's doing reactions in a way that others in the niche aren't doing. Being easy on the eyes doesn't hurt. That only gets you so far on UA-cam. The personality, editing (hugely important on keeping attention) and subject matter all combine for engaging videos.
That may be true but that's not to say that she adds anything to the videos, she barely says anything and gives no credit.

Also, it’s another very informative breakdown! Minimizing the exit points and using these thumbnail “hacks” is probably relevant for every UA-camr, but as you mentioned especially relevant in the purely entertainment focused space where the video isn’t very unique or personal.
This is a great breakdown Paddy, very educational. The fast paced video editing that doesn't give you much time to think reminded me of tiktok. I'm assuming that's one of the reasons that platform is winning.

This is such an awesome vid Paddy! SSSniperwolf is an awesome UA-camr. I LOVE how you broke down the statistics and data. Her editing is off the hook and she does an amazing job of keeping those windows very tiny. It's like pow pow pow and keeps people so engaged. I know when I watch her vids I don't want to click away. She's amazing at grabbing that attention and holding it. The same that Jimmy does, he's the master at keeping you there too!
Evergreen content is a genuinely awesome way to keep growing in the right direction. I struggle with this because a lot of help topics have that limited time span on them. I am working on ways to try to make my content more evergreen as well but it's quite challenging!
Your own content is super evergreen Paddy, watching your analysis on other UA-camr's is relevant now and will be for many years to come.

The fast-cut style works well at maintaining viewer attention....BUT by cutting out all the bridging stuff you do significantly reduce the watch time so there' s a trade-off. I imagine she's got a good video editor-if you are doing the editing yourself that's also a LOT of extra work.
Yeah, her editing is pretty simple, just time consuming. I assume she has one or two editors in order to crank out daily content.

She often gets move views than PewDiePie. When you consider he's the most subbed man and she's the most subbed woman with a quarter of his subs either SSSNIPERWOLF outperforms or PewDiePie underwhelms.
