On the surface, David may just seem like a guy who got his lucky break, however in this video we are going to dig a little deeper and find out exactly how he grew his channel to a staggering 15.6 million subscribers. If you’ve always dreamed of starting and growing your own channel stay tuned for a UA-cam masterclass from David Dobrik.
This brings us back to David’s early beginnings as a creator and I’m sure most of you know it didn’t start on UA-cam. He began creating content on the now shutdown platform that we all remember, Vine.Vine helped build an audience for him of over 1 million followers, but also taught him about things like brand deals, content algorithms and the power of collaborations
David Dobrik’s roots in vine also leads into our second factor which is how he has evolved the vlog. I remember the first time I saw one of David’s videos I thought this isn’t a vlog it’s just an elaborate vine compilation, and then I realized that was the point. Just because the platform died didn’t mean people’s demand for short funny sketches did too.
Factor 3 is all about the vlog squad and how David uses his friends to add dimensions to his videos. David’s vlogs have been described as like a UA-cam sitcom. We all know the vlog squad, a collection of other famous former viners who all feature regularly in David’s videos.
Finally, David Dobrik is outsmarting the UA-cam algorithm by getting very high CTR rates and watch time, despite going against a lot of what we believe is best practices for creators.

I'm sure your English is great but it's the most competitive language on youtube, you will be up against a lot more channels The german audience size may be smaller but it is only going to grow over the next 10 years and you don't need millions to make a good living here. I wish I could speak german or spanish so I could make these videos in different languages! Best of luck.

One thing he does which ive noticed too: he tricks people into thinking theyre getting clickbaited, but the video has something superior.
what i mean is like, he posts a video like "this is what she said about me" and then in the video, he has like a big famous star, and doesnt mention it in the title or thumbnail. this makes people addicted, because its like gambling, they never know what to expect, from a video that seems simple, but when you watch it, it has something that blows the title away. He broke the clickbait game, by reversing it, the title is something minor in the video

Another underrated thing that David did was post consistently multiple times a week for like 4 years straight.

he didn't do it on purpose, but he created a tv show. think about it. there are characters, there's basically a laugh track (David laughing), there's love interests, and he's relatable and funny. its genius.
Yeah he pretty much did. In an interview he mentioned the show modern family and how it is kind of like what he is doing.
I think he did it on pupropse. He always talked about loving sitcoms and comedy shows . I believe he wanted to implement this style of comedy/enterntainment feeling into his vlogs!

One great thing I learned about his vlogging style was where someone from vlogsqad said that he basically shoots all day, every day. He always carries camera in his hands. And what we see 5 minute of a vlog is basically extreme edited version of over 20 hours of footage. Thats why he is able to power pack all good stuff in such a short vlog. He has so much content to shoot about that it becomes easier and very clever to extract only best 5 minutes of entire footage.
The main reason why David blew up is because of his friend group, "vlogsquad". When I first started watching, I had no idea about any of them, but the thing that made me more videos is because even though I did not know them, they were very funny at first sight. Then I started watching more and more, and each vlog was funny and even more funnier than last one. That's what makes David unique than other vloggers. Some vloggers have good funny bits, but not every video.
Yeah and it was interesting (and sometimes sad) to watch the group dynamic change like on any friend group it makes them real instead of many other friendships on yt which seen forced sometimes

well the thing is , that he orchistrates all the bits. So its like a big never-ending movie with good/mediocre cast(rest of the vlog squad) and a genious director(David Dobrik).
@@stavroslemonis2640 He doesn't orchestrate every bit though. Some he does, some he doesn't. I think that's what makes it more entertaining, there's always a bit of an unknown when it comes to whether something is real or not.

yeah my sister has a tiktok and on her old channel (which she somehow got locked out of) one of her vids blew up out of fucking nowhere and got 4.8k views.
i think a big reason as to why so many people love his videos is the length and pacing of the video. its a fast paced video filled with jokes and bits where u only need to spend 4 min of ur day watching

Been following this guy since the vines days
I never watched vines but coincidentally found David on UA-cam when he had only uploaded a couple of videos. The very first year of him on UA-cam was the best and purest thing I've ever watched on the Internet. His vlogs were really something else. So incredibly pure and genuine. To this day I haven't found anything remotely comparable. There was no concept for content, no sponsorships, no merch, nothing. Just a large group of super nice and charismatic people moving to LA, recording the most hilarious shit and having the time of their lives. And you were witnessing it first hand. It felt like you were friends with them without ever seeing them in person. I miss those times on a deep emotional level lol
David's content is still top tier on UA-cam but it is nowhere near the genuineness of the first months. It really was the best thing I've ever watched on UA-cam.

The number of views someone gets and the content of those views are mutually exclusive. They are two very different things, and I'm frankly stunned that you can't tell the difference between them.
As much as he seems like a very nice guy, his videos seem to be mainly just of him doing goofy and useless things. Are you trying to say that something has value just because it is popular? Because, I'm pretty sure that I've heard and seen a lot of very popular bullshit in my life. As a matter of fact, the more popular something is, the less likely it is to be of any serious value.

Thought you’d mention how his close friend from near the start of his vlogs is already famous n therefore bringing in interest. & the people who would know him from when he was on Nickelodeon will be young & a key target audience.
Least that was the deal with me, I recognised Josh Peck & that’s why I clicked on my first ever DD video.
Also he’s constantly made leaps into bigger celeb status with other famous faces outside of UA-cam, til finally he’s been able to become one himself - now appearing in all sorts of tv & mag appearances etc.
