    Inflight catering provided by Dollar Tree! It’s amazing how low the bar is for US domestic first class these days.

    • @laxjetbear
      @laxjetbear 3 роки тому +6

      Why would any of them care? They provide free upgrades to frequent fliers, which has diluted the product immeasurably. There is no incentive to improve the service. It’s not like they’re making money on the product, so why bother?

    • @laxjetbear
      @laxjetbear 3 роки тому +6

      @Ann Hanover I flew AA first class, round trip LAX-HNL long before the pandemic. The service was horrific and I could not even eat the meal going over. I LITERALLY could not cut the French toast with a knife. And it was served with some sort of molasses-like syrup instead of maple. It was revolting. I told the flight attendant about it and gave it back to her (nicely, as it wasn’t her fault) and she just said, “Yeah. Sometimes that happens.” She took my tray and didn’t offer me a single thing to replace it. Nothing. I’ve never, EVER had anything like that on UA, so don’t even try to make it sound like they are worse. AA SUCKS! And DL is getting worse these days, as well.

    • @Blank00
      @Blank00 3 роки тому +2

      @Ann Hanover Nope, AA and DL are not that different in catering

      People keep flying and paying for these seats. Why should they give a f*ck? While they cram economy like cattle, please, its about the bottom line.

      @@laxjetbear I flew United first class to Hawaii and got 2 hot meals. One of which a French toast and it was literally the best French toast I ever had on land, sea, or air. If you got a bad toast it probably was the flight attendant's fault. He or she over cooked it and it turned into a rock.

  • @Gatolargo879

    I think the problem is the expectations set by the name of the product. I believe that in short haul domestic flights they need to rename this as Comfort Class or something similar. If they keep calling it First Class, people will have high expectations. These flights don’t really offer a first class experience.

    My ex (from London, btw) and I flew out to San Francisco in early’89 for a visit to my cousins..I was newly pregnant 🤰. We had to change planes at OHare, and when I saw you going thru that cool tunnel I immediately remembered he and I going through it -we were spellbound! I think ‘O’ Hare is the hub for United. I think they cleaned up their act a bit, but overall I’ve never been too keen on them. Having said that, it’s been awhile since I’ve flown them. That baby I was pregnant with is 32 now, and is expecting his own baby! So “Grandma “ here 🙋‍♀️might fly United out to Seattle once the baby gets here in the summer!

      I don’t think they will, on United or any other US airline. Passengers will begin flying again regardless and the beancounters will realize that they can still fill the seats even with covid service levels, so there will be no need to offer hot meals or other perks even to first class passengers again.

    • @johnhaller5851
      @johnhaller5851 3 роки тому

      I think the margin on those seats have to go up, and they need to sell more seats up front as J fares before something closer to original meals. The price for the seats up front reflect a lack of business travelers, and United would rather get a small premium over coach that to give a free upgrade to someone who made Silver. It's been very surprising how small the upgrade lists are on many flights.

    Man, I miss flying. I got nostalgic seeing ORD. I used to fly though there so much the past few years. United offers seat back satellite TV on the older 737s that were from Continental. I have had several flights over the past few weeks though, and while the snack boxes are "nice" they do get boring after getting the same one every time. Years ago United Express had a morning box and two or three different afternoon boxes. It would be nice if they added some more variety in there.

    Kai Tak !!, you're showing your age Noel !! On domestic US flights, I tend to be in the back of the plane, & I always seem to feel that the extra cost never really justifies paying the extra. The snacks are nice but they would probably cost you about 10 dollars, so it comes down to the comfort of the seat, & luckily I'm 5' 7'', so I can squeeze into a normal seat, but if I was taller or larger, I might need the extra room.

      I was in one yesterday. Iberia A330-200 for Amsterdam - Madrid. Interesting having such a big plane on a short route.

      Quite common in the US. Delta, American, United, and Allegiant all have A320s that are quite up there in age.

      United has a lot of old airplanes in their fleet. Their 767s can be as old as 28 years and 777 as old as 26 years.

    A related note:
    What's the best $100 spent on Earth?
    Paying $100 more to avoid UA on a transcon flight in favor of JetBlue.

      If only B6 had a useful west coast network and/or offered Mint (or even basic F/J) on all transcon flights. Enjoy your all Y flight JFK-PDX.

    Your videos are the most detailed by far, and I enjoy watching them, as you travel across the world. What I find most amazing is how you find out the age of the plane that you are about to travel on. That takes a good detail of research. How does one find out that information ahead of a flight? Thank you for your videos!!!

    Thanks for sharing. I just a few with United. I actually flew United Domestic via the Hawaii route, which though is domestic, had Polaris class. That was nice. My main beef is they didn't have any drink service before departure, nor famous ice-cream desert. I assume that is a covid thing. The other big issue I had is that they cleaned they did some big cleaning. Even had little tv about it associated with departure video. What did I see, crumbs all over the place, and some leftover wrappers. Should I complain, given this was United Polaris?

    Do your row neighbors tend to ask you what you're up to? Or do most people keep to themselves?

    You were lucky to get a good crew. Our flight in early March Palm Springs to Houston had crew that stood in the galley to eat and drink 95% of the time. Since they only picked up trash once we landed with people holding empty snack boxes and a seat back was back because they couldn’t be bothered to check. We were in a full first class. You could see people keep trying to make eye contact with the crew. Our flight out had been good but this crew needs to retire.

    Hey Noel....another awesome video, and as a UA employee, good to see you had a great experience...re the entertainment, I'm sure you know this, but that depends on the plane you were on that day, on that route, not so much on the route....you should come fly with us, LHR based crews...
