Why would any of them care? They provide free upgrades to frequent fliers, which has diluted the product immeasurably. There is no incentive to improve the service. It’s not like they’re making money on the product, so why bother?
@Ann Hanover I flew AA first class, round trip LAX-HNL long before the pandemic. The service was horrific and I could not even eat the meal going over. I LITERALLY could not cut the French toast with a knife. And it was served with some sort of molasses-like syrup instead of maple. It was revolting. I told the flight attendant about it and gave it back to her (nicely, as it wasn’t her fault) and she just said, “Yeah. Sometimes that happens.” She took my tray and didn’t offer me a single thing to replace it. Nothing. I’ve never, EVER had anything like that on UA, so don’t even try to make it sound like they are worse. AA SUCKS! And DL is getting worse these days, as well.
@@laxjetbear I flew United first class to Hawaii and got 2 hot meals. One of which a French toast and it was literally the best French toast I ever had on land, sea, or air. If you got a bad toast it probably was the flight attendant's fault. He or she over cooked it and it turned into a rock.
I think the problem is the expectations set by the name of the product. I believe that in short haul domestic flights they need to rename this as Comfort Class or something similar. If they keep calling it First Class, people will have high expectations. These flights don’t really offer a first class experience.

We had to change planes at OHare, and when I saw you going thru that cool tunnel I immediately remembered he and I going through it -we were spellbound! I think ‘O’ Hare is the hub for United. I think they cleaned up their act a bit, but overall I’ve never been too keen on them. Having said that, it’s been awhile since I’ve flown them. That baby I was pregnant with is 32 now, and is expecting his own baby! So “Grandma “ here 🙋♀️might fly United out to Seattle once the baby gets here in the summer!
I'm terribly afraid of flying despite having flown dozens of times in my lifetime. Your videos have gotten me excited about the idea of flying again. Take care!
I am from Hong Kong, I used to fly Kai Tak airport during 90's, I missed the experiences that the plane always flied just tens of metres above buildings before landing.
I've only been to O'Hare once when I was 17 going from Bradley International to Las Vegas. Our flight landed with about 40 minutes to take off. My family ran through the "Blinky Blonky Tunnel" Home Alone style and they were just getting ready to close the door as we got there.
Nice review as always! *I am so tired of those snack boxes, as a United Premier 1K flyer I would say it is high time that they start back the in flight Domestic First Class meal service! For United it is all about the economics (cheapness). I wish you had time to visit the lounge as well.

United can definitely be a hit or miss. I'm based out of SFO and so a huge hub for UA. I haven't flown at all since the pandemic but pre-pandemic I did a bit of business traveling and there were bad experiences and a few very good experiences.
Another great video as usual Noel… and also thanks for keeping the content going in such difficult times, I’m sure it’s been pretty challenging for you but your work is appreciated
United Airlines is one of the best airline in the US when it comes to service onboard during the pandemic and one of my favorite airline as well. I should thumbs up to this video because this video is actually more perfect than the previous video a week ago.
Fantastic views of the frozen landscape below. Definitely something you usually don’t see in most of America. Nice to see the service has improved on the Domestic flights in First Class too! ✈️
The last time I went through O'Hare was January 2020. As that was pre covid being really bad and known about, that place was busy as heck. I also am a big fan of the Stroopwafel. My flights were round trip from Denver to a small regional airport with layover in Chicago.
OMG... the Stroopwafer! Awesome... in Spain and México they are Called Obleas... that was a nice trip... I was in Chicago a month ago... enjoy your stay in Chicago... David from PR
I don’t think they will, on United or any other US airline. Passengers will begin flying again regardless and the beancounters will realize that they can still fill the seats even with covid service levels, so there will be no need to offer hot meals or other perks even to first class passengers again.
I think the margin on those seats have to go up, and they need to sell more seats up front as J fares before something closer to original meals. The price for the seats up front reflect a lack of business travelers, and United would rather get a small premium over coach that to give a free upgrade to someone who made Silver. It's been very surprising how small the upgrade lists are on many flights.
Always a pleasure to see Capt Philip and his splendid reviews! Keep up the great work. Atleast watching your flight reviews gives us a breath of fresh air (a change)during the pandemic here in India! Much love from India :)
Other than the ease of passing through the airport, I thought this flight was crap! A first class fare ... and you got a kids’ snack box for a meal?! Then to have no IFE! I know United won’t go bankrupt not having my business, but they won’t be my first choice for first class travel.
I just flew United first class to/from Turks and Caicos, and the snack box is not better, used to get a hot meal for that length of flight and always had my gluten free meal, not any more, but I had expected that and ate before I got on the plane and had snacks with me. No pre-departure drinks, but they did keep my wine glass full.
Man, I miss flying. I got nostalgic seeing ORD. I used to fly though there so much the past few years. United offers seat back satellite TV on the older 737s that were from Continental. I have had several flights over the past few weeks though, and while the snack boxes are "nice" they do get boring after getting the same one every time. Years ago United Express had a morning box and two or three different afternoon boxes. It would be nice if they added some more variety in there.
Kai Tak !!, you're showing your age Noel !! On domestic US flights, I tend to be in the back of the plane, & I always seem to feel that the extra cost never really justifies paying the extra. The snacks are nice but they would probably cost you about 10 dollars, so it comes down to the comfort of the seat, & luckily I'm 5' 7'', so I can squeeze into a normal seat, but if I was taller or larger, I might need the extra room.
Not sure what announcement you mean, but I just flew to/from Turks and Caicos from Newark. Planning to go to Spain in June, just waiting on what they plan to require to prove I'm vaccinated, all I have is that CDC card that apparently people are easily forging.

Nice to see the food you received. Talk about and show more about the seating. Leather seats, enough room between you and others who may be asymptomatic? How was it better or worse than before covid?
I flew United first class from PBI to EWR today and I was suprised at how much I was offered which is surprising because of how bad the whole (culinary) experience has disappeared much more after Covid in first class. I asked for vodka and soda and it was offered..then another one after that lol..then 2 hot-food options which was rather tasty..carved chicken with provolone and kale garlic butter on a hot ciabatta or a ciabatta with tomato and basil..food was very tasty..It would of been nice if they offered a cookie or a dessert after but nothing..oh well..seats were very comfy and nice experience
Honestly, the food service seems pretty mediocre considering the price and that this is "first class." I guess we have just gotten so used to the terrible service on US carriers.
Hey Noel, i'm hopefully about to take a job as a manager at Jeddah's new airport terminal in the next few months. Next time you're in the geographic area i'll hit you up for some behind the scenes etc...

Hey Noel....another awesome video, and as a UA employee, good to see you had a great experience...re the entertainment, I'm sure you know this, but that depends on the plane you were on that day, on that route, not so much on the route....you should come fly with us, LHR based crews...

Since they only picked up trash once we landed with people holding empty snack boxes and a seat back was back because they couldn’t be bothered to check. We were in a full first class. You could see people keep trying to make eye contact with the crew. Our flight out had been good but this crew needs to retire.
Hey Noel....another awesome video, and as a UA employee, good to see you had a great experience...re the entertainment, I'm sure you know this, but that depends on the plane you were on that day, on that route, not so much on the route....you should come fly with us, LHR based crews...
Great video!
Would love to see you do a video or two with Tom Scott. Both of you make some excellent content. 😊

Not sure I would pay for first class until the meals and drink options return.
