If you use a leader and swivel, you can cut a wire clothes hanger, grind a point, cut a small notch above the point and use it as a bait hook for the hot dogs. You can also use the mini franks and they stay on better because there is skin on both sides. I use hot dogs often in the summer. Hope this tip helps
Nice little video! Hey, If you go fishing and actually catch something, it is an added bonus! AND, How wonderful to see ma video that is done with a tripod and not jerking all around in some guy's hand.
I feel your pain....it`s raining gangbusters here in GA. right now. I went fishing for bluegill about 3 weeks ago and could actually see the fish in the water. They would come in and investigate, but then turn and swim away. Fishing has been terrible here too man all the way around.
I use precooked shrimp with garlic powder or some times I just use the shrimp by itself. Plus I use Half night crawlers with shrimp on same hook an I catch all types of fish. When the cows are grazing fish are biting an when the cows lay down fish aren't biting.
I used hotdogs marinated in Cherry jello mix , minced garlic and some spicy spices and was catching big boy catfish. You can also used cubed cut ham chunks soaked in Italian salad dressing
Since many swear by chicken liver, I thought about making dough with braunschweiger or liverwurst. Just made one with canned clams and shrimp last night, I pureed them and added them to simmering water with a cup ea. of flour, cornmeal. Then garlic salt and vanilla. Stil have to try it.
Im thinking any funky concoction bait stuffed in a raw intestine would be the best. Tough on the hook. Custom release per # of holes. Stink bait sausages.
Billy stink bait with rotten chicken feed grain chum I'd put toe to toe against any live bait anytime. They vacuum it up and eat the stink bait without any playing with it. Their belly you can feel stuffed with rotten grain. Chicken feed bucket water and one beer give it a week.
Wait for the pre spawn 2 hooks per. Line stack all cast in same 10ft hole use all baits same size worm shri.p shad blue gill skip jack then use man made dip baitsect even home made all same time cast as close as possible do bottom fishing log each one on a chart then do a 2nd go use floats n speeders all bait same depth n close
If you use a baiting needle with the hot dog and pull it the line through so it's just it's on the shank of your hook you can cast it as far as you want
I made one out of a paperclip. Straightened it out and made a loop for my finger on one end on the other end just bent back about a quarter of an inch leaving a little gap for the eyelet on your hook line. Works great and mine was free LOL
Wow I just came across this video and I know exactly where you are fishing at. I fish there some I have caught many many catfish there. Wow I live in Maryville.
Where do you usually fish at? I love to fish. I’m going to look you up on Facebook I’ve been watching a lot of your videos since I first saw this video. Pretty cool recognizing my local ponds on this video.
Bill, very often the exact spot where you fish is more important than the bait which you use. Cats are scavenging bottom dwellers and are not very particular about the bait which one uses to try to catch them, if your bait lands in their immediate vicinity they'll hit it. That is why I travel light, so I can move more often. Thanks for posting.

nice video , have you try shrimp ? , thank you for telling about circle hook and carp , I had no idea , that why , perhaps , I've lost few of them when was pooling out of water.
You should've used chicken breast instead of hotdogs. Strawberry chicken breast does pretty good for channel cats in my neck of the woods. But im going to have keep an eye out for the fiber nuggets. Great video bro, keep em coming and tight lines.
There is a certain time of year when chicken breast makes cats go crazy. Me and two other youtubers caught this 50 pound beast on chicken breast: ua-cam.com/video/lTQnZwTOxA4/v-deo.html
Went catcishing three times this week. Team catfish cheese Fibre nuggets. Wow caught at least 35 channels 2 to 3 lbs and 1 10 pounder. Lost 2 other big ones. Can't tell you how many bites I had. This is the first time I have ever caught a cat on store bought catfish bait. One of my favorite baits is garlic shrimp , peal your shrimp and crush some fresh garlic cloves put in a zip lock bag and put in the fridge for a few days . As for hot dogs I've tried them several times and only had 1 bite, the best place for them is on the grill. Good fishing to all you guys.
Nah dude, hot dogs is were it’s at. I’ve caught carps, bass, catfish. Cheap ones r the best, i think there called bar s but ham works too idk about bologna but live baiting a 3 ounce bluegill goes crazy for catfish
Nice video hey when you go for catfish in the warmer weather how long does it typically take to bite the hot dog rig? And did you hold the carp that way because it’s got spines like catfish? Never caught a carp before
I’ve had good luck with the jello hotdogs but like you said, they’re soft. I’ve had the best luck threading them on the hook using a modified needle similar to what some people do with baitfish. I recently started using chicken gizzards/hearts soaked in the same jello itch much better luck. Stays on the hook much better.
To keep hot dogs on the hook use a baiting needle and snelled hooks and pull the line through the hot dog with the baiting needle onto the hook and hotdogs will stay.
I know this is an old video but set the hotdogs in the sun for couple of hours and it will make them a little tough so they won't come off the hook when casting
Not yet. Awhile back me and two other UA-camrs caught a 50 pounder on accident with raw chicken breast. Video is here: ua-cam.com/video/lTQnZwTOxA4/v-deo.html
your into catching bait and your throw back the best bait for big cats wich was the carp that you could have cut up for bait I am anavid fisherman and now the best baits for big cats
I use hot dogs with cherry or strawberry kool-aid. I leave them in the fridge for a few days, and they really toughen up well. I have been targeting channels, and I use a 1/0 to 3/0 circle hook. As was mentioned in the comments, I attach the hook to the line by a snap-swivel or something similar. That way, I feed the shank of the hook through the hot dog, and just attach the hook. I never have any problem losing the bait. Now, I haven't been catching channels, but I have been catching a lot of 15-20lb flatheads and carp!
@@Capt_Billy Yep! Surprised me at first, but they seem to love them. It's a decent sized river, the Great Miami in southern Ohio, and while I've seen others pulling out big channels (not sure what baits they are using), I am quite happy to stick with flatheads and carp! So much for flatheads needing live baits...
I like this guy he is a character and very entertaining definitely not the biggest person I’m subbed to but I think this guy can get there he always has a good attitude and is funny
@Panfish Try using nylon bait thread or miracle tread they sell it at all bait shops it comes in a clear plastic bottle the size of a 💊 bottle with a tiny pinhole at the top trust your bait will always stay on it would never come off when you cast chicken liver hot, dogs, worms anything you put on your hook use that nylon bait thread you'll love fishing even more i guarantee you'll like it I'll put a link ☝ for u 💯💯👍👍
For the cats in my area, livers attract more, hearts the least, gizzards middle. But livers come off the hook easiest. I bought all 3, mixed them and let them sit. The gizzards and hearts worked better after that. I'm going to try the Kool Aid thing next.
Just curious roughly how much is the nuggets if there more then the dogs by 4 5 bucks that sounds expensive.. well for me n e way not all...looks like ya get a decent amount so that counts to..I use souped up hotdogs once in a while n have had alot of success. I have to admit. Bluegill work much better n there free.. Thanks for sharing bill.. thumbs up
The Fiber Bait is around $7. The hotdog bait is roughly $3. It's about the same amount of bait but the FIber Bait won't go bad and I think has more uses (hint: possible future video idea).
I like circle hooks when fishing with cut or live bait. I’m not a pro or expert but I can tell you when fishing a circle hook the fish will hook themselves on one side of the mouth or the other but do not set the hook hard like you would with a straight shank hook because I learned the hard way not to do that by loosing a few fish, they say a lesson learned well is a lesson learned hard.
You know I've been since my early teens and never heard of using hotdogs. This is the 2nd time I've seen and heard of flavored hotdogs. Chicken liver works pretty good.

The Carp J hooks I use are around size 2 or 4. I have size 2/0 Eagle Claw circle hooks on my desk for Snook right now. Was recommended for them. My catfish hooks are 8/0 Team Catfish Double Action Circle hooks or something equivalent. The straight shank on all these circle hooks are key. I fish for a few different types of fish.

When fishing with hotdogs, you should use a swivel, and a 3prog treble hook.
You slip the eye of the treble thru the side of the hotdog until it protrudes through the other side. Then hook the eye to the swivel, this is the easiest way to secure the hotdog. It uses all 3 hooks and doesn't split the hotdog in a way that it will release when casting.
Just a suggestion. Thanks for reading
I have done that before and it works great!
That’s correct. Works keeping the bait on the treble hook. 👍
I love your realistic fishing and I totally agree.. no matter what kind of baits you have you can always get skunked..
You seem really fun to fish with!👌👍🐠🐠🐟🦈
Thanks!
Great stuff! I microwaved the hot dog pieces 3 times at 30 seconds to toughen them up and stay on the hook. Really worked well.
I may have to try that someday. Thanks
When using hotdogs use a treble hook put shank thru dog then tie or snap hook to your line

Most of my Carp catches have been on J hooks. People do say you can catch them on circle hooks and I think I was using a circle hook in this video.
@@Capt_Billy i use eagle claw #1, the box of 50 from waltmart, do they work? I was thinking about going up a size but if i can get carp i have no problem keep using them. Or Could u PLEASE at least give me an idea of how big the j hook is
The Carp J hooks I use are around size 2 or 4.
@@Capt_Billy Thank you. I'm speechless, i never expected them (big) to get carp. Very very good information!
Some days the hot dogs are hot, and other days they are a bust no matter what you do to them
