Hi there, here are a few odd notes to add to the mix. I studied textiles in college back in the 80's so my knowledge might be a bit outdated. I find that cashmere gets both stronger and softer when you wash it. A quality hack might be to buy the lesser quality and wash it down to the right size and texture. One often unspoken benefit of adding synthetics to woolen blends is that it repells moths. I live in California. When everyone else in the country is pulling out their wooly sweaters, I get fomo. I bulky cotton sweater gives me the cozy feels without making me melt. Finally, camel hair is legit. I have a 1950's vintage camel hair coat. It is toasty, soft, and has been extremely durable. Keep making the great informative content. I've been sharing your videos with my son who has become an avid thrifter.

I regret passing on so many cardigans and sweaters in the past because I thought wool and cashmere sweaters were too delicate to wear. The one’s that I do own, I have used for decades and they still look incredible.

I really like that the focus of this channel is more on the materials and construction of quality garments instead of "fashion" or trend cycles or whatever. Quality timeless pieces are the solution to the fast fashion industry, and I think you're doing a service putting this info out there.

Love our content. I would throw in this about cashmere, though: the thicker ply cashmere is more robust and durable, less prone to pilling and almost always high quality because only the big boys play there.

Firstly, great work. Secondly, I think we're going to need a discussion of that Duffle Coat.

Keep up the great videos! Such high quality information. The 101 videos are fantastic and I cant wait to see more! You would make a killer L.L Bean or Carhartt 101 vid, fingers crossed they’re on the agenda! 🤞

Nice explanation to better understand why seemingly similar sweaters can have very different properties!

Another awesome video! Nothing beats wool, its an amazing fabric. I thrifted a vintage 100% camel hair sweater and its one of the most insane things I have ever found. Its one of those things where when you feel it, you know its quality. Hard to articulate but you just know its the good stuff. I like it better than any cashmere I have come across, it feels more substantial. Maybe I have only come across cheap cashmere though lol.

Fun channel, man. I stumbled onto it while researching a steampunk-looking A&F leather hunting jacket i got for $30 (according to your vid it looks like a mid-80's label). If you havent done a leatherwear episode that might cool. Or a retro brands episode. Or a Nike clothing 101 (your Polo and B.R. vids have both been valuable). Anyway, subscribed and cheers! ☕

I thrifted my first 100% merino sweater last month for only $4. Granted, it's only H&M (made in Portugal), but it is so soft, light and stretchy!
We don't have very harsh winters in southern Greece, so I'm also fine with cotton sweaters.

Another great video! I would definitely concur with your statement that a loose-knit fully cotton sweater lacks some durability compared to that of its 20% linen counterpart. I somewhat recently bought a super loose-knit organic cotton sweater from the brand Story mfg. just as a pajama sweater and that thing has been falling apart since I got it with no hard wear at all.

Fantastic video, as always! I do think that you sell synthetics short a bit, even though I am fully on board with natural fabrics being superior. I've got some cotton-rayon blend sweaters that with long sleeves dress up nicely, giving a kind of worsted wool sheen; and some short sleeve summer sweaters of the same material that can be fashioned rather like t-shirts, but add more structure, drape, and class than tees. So semi-synthetic cellulose fabrics like rayon, lyocell/tencel, and modal are pretty neat, and certainly better than fully synthetic materials made of oil. That said, I'd still prefer the same items made with vegetable fibers or silk, but on the used market I'm intentionally looking for rayon blends for affordability

Great wool expose, but you missed Yak and Baby Yak

I think the j crew one might have to do with how it was made. The holes were near seams and stress areas like right where the elbow patch was attached to the wool.
Also, how do you usually wash thrifted/second-hand wool sweaters?
