- The goon of Slapshot, Ogie Ogilthorpe, was quite the character, but so was the man that he was inspired by.
Here's the crazy, but true story of the real Ogie Ogilthorpe...Bill Goldthorpe. - Спорт
Slapshot is the greatest hockey movie of all time
Nah its Miracle
@@TheHeston83 Either or, both are good
So what are your Top 10 hockey movies ? Me personally. 1. Slapshot. 2. Young blood. 3. The Mighty Ducks. 4. Mystery Alaska. 5. Miracle. 6. The Russian Five. 7. Net Worth. 8.The Rocket. 9.Goon. 10. Hockey Night.
@@tudormiller887 Youngblood is so hard to find. I grew up in the 90's and it was always on TV and we owned the VHS. I had the DVD in around 2008, but I moved so many times. It is never on any streaming. Even hockey films that are not a masterpiece still have nostalgic fun to them
@@tudormiller887Good list, The Rookies(1989) & Keep Your Head Up Kid, The Don Cherry Story were good TV movies, but my vote goes for Slapshot for #1.
I’ve seen Slapshot hundreds of times and I knew Ogie was based on someone…how did it take me this long to see this?!? I love the stick boy’s only line “He’s not playin’, he’s suspended.”
Jesus he sounded like a complete sociopath with ridiculous anger issues. How did he even survive this long without going on a killing spree
Surprisingly he never become hockey's answer to OJ Simpson
because he's canadian. we fight, but we very rarely kill.
Going into construction with those anger issues was a natural move
He works iron no doubt .
I am more shocked Bob Costas called hockey games.
I believe he did! YES!!!!!
@@Buffalosabskis 😂 that is more of an Marv Albert call.....YES (from downtown....and I am not a basketball fan)
You’re shocked? Feel these nipples
I'm surprised the Flyers didn't offer him a contract. Back in the 70's that whole teen was a goon squad
whole teen? ok. those philly squads also had a ton of talent.
That golden afro was amazing. I sure it was so thick it could probably stop pucks.
The fro was impressive😅😅😅
He played in Binghamton one year. As the story goes, he got in to it with teammate Paul Stewart, future NHL referee at Funzy
I loved Funzys went there after concerts at the arena.
YES. OGILTEERP. Nice work TSN
The Sault Greyhounds had a guy in the late 80’s named Bobby Babcock who was just as scary. Alliteration is fitting for a hockey goon.
" He's not playing, he's suspended" !
Having witnessed Bill Goldthorpe playing junior hockey in Thunder Bay and following from a distance his hockey after that, the "Slapshot" version ( aka Ogie) was pretty meek and mild compared to the real deal.
So many of the characters in the movie were based on actual players in the American league and Johnston players were featured in the movie.
I got to meet him last year in Ottawa, Canada......great guy.....lots of stories.
God of course Costas is in this documentary can’t stand him
HFS. That story by Bob Costas, and confirmed by Goldie ...WOW!!! Got "Slap Shot" in my Blu-Ray collection. Good to have the REAL story here.
Honestly, I thought the character was based off Willie Trognitz.
How’s that anger management course working out for you Goldie
Is this guy secretly Brock Lesnar's father?
Goldthorpe's awesome!!
I’ve realized my problem with Hockey in 2024. I like this guy and think the NHL needs a few around the league.
He ruined hockey
Isn't this a reupload? Feel like I've watched this long ago.
Me too. Maybe it was a different Goldthorpe tribute. I definitely think I would have remembered the hacksaw, which was a shocker to me. 😂
@@Statsy10 Pretty sure it's the same one.
@@Statsy10 "I Am Ogie" uploaded in 2015 here on UA-cam. I knew I saw it before ;)
Please do Tommy Hanrahan next.
Ogie deserved a movie spinoff
Do a Slapshot quiz lol
That would be fun but us old farts know the film line for line and all the background info. We all wanted to be the Chiefs as kids in the early 80's
“Would’ve. put me on the map.”
😂🤣 Something tells me he’s still alive now bc it didn’t. Kid like that wouldn’t be able to handle success of that magnitude.
Who doesn’t have a pet duck named Patrick..
'HI-buy you a soda after the game?' 'oge torpe?' 'Trade me fight fkn now'. They brought their fkn toys with them'. 'Scouts?' 'You can't put a bounty on a man's head...' 'I'll get you you little prekk'. 'here i circled the fk words for you'.
slapshot-funniest fkn movie ever.
"Dave's a killer!"
"Dave's a mess."
@@mrv6968 'get out of here you god damned parasite'.
I met Goldie in Hornepayne in summer of 1971, nice polite guy
Just got home from my buddy's place.. had a few.. Putting on Slapshot while I 'Night cap'. God bless Goldie's pet Duck Patrick
A hacksaw on the bus? LOL, WTF
I met goldie in kelowna. Hes was still intense in his 60's
please don't stop with ogie/goldie. Next video should be on the guy who played ogie, ned dowd i think his name was. Nearly every character, actor and event in slap shot is worth a video
Dr D of hockey
Just asked Reno Hightower
He traveled with a hacksaw??
no, hacksaws were just readily available, like fire extinguishers. never know when you're gonna have to amputate some limbs. it was a different time. mcdonalds was full of cig smoke, cars were tanks, kids played outside, etc... & hacksaws, lots of hacksaws.
This guy is from Horn Payne, northern Ontario???? My step mother is from there. It’s a town of about 20 people. I mean that literally. They must know one another, lol.
A relative perhaps?
"Who owns Da Chiefs?"
Too bad Goldie missed Wendel n Probie.. That woulda been fun!
Legend
cool story, his DB is a little underwhelming not gonna lie
I've gotta watch Slapshot again. ❤🏒
Ogiltorp???
Ogle thorpe
Yikes!
Ogletorpe?
Carl Racki would Zamboni the ice with Goldy.
Would love to see that matchup. Glatt might take em both, or prime Rhea.
Is it Ogilthorpe or Ogiltorpe?
His “real” movie name was Ogilthorpe, however the Charleston Chiefs’ goalkeeper in the movie was from a French-speaking part of Canada. With his movie accent, he was unable to pronounce Ogilthorpe, hence we have Ogiltorpe . Slap Shot was filmed in my hometown of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The cast stayed at local hotels and ate at local restaurants. During the filming a number of people that I have known would talk about going into a bar for a beer and meeting Paul Newman there. From everything I’ve heard he was very friendly and outgoing with people who approached him. BTW, the football movie All the Right Moves, which starred (a very young) Tom Cruise, Lea Thompson, and Craig T. Nelson was also filmed in Johnstown a few years after Slap Shot.
Funzy’s bar.
Right across from the arena.
@@piggyroo100 Correct.
@@fredgervin9930 Used to hit it up right after concerts in the 80’s. Fifty cents for a ten ounce draft in a plastic cup! 🥴
id love a 2024 good new version of that movie.
Can't. World's way to sensitive.
It would be worse,way worse.
How can anyone make a "good new version" of perfection ?
This guy has nothing to be proud of.
Fckin eh .. welcome to hockey. Bet hes a ironworker. Long live both 🤪
