This actually had two endings. The originally aired one was the boy was left alone in the post apocalypse. The other one was where both the kids were turned into scarecrows.
Interesting
Hmm. I think I watched both of those when they aired but never noticed.
Dude leaving him alone in the apocalypse would’ve been WAY crazier of an ending tbh!
@@kingnusmiIm pretty sure I remember the brother burnt the scarecrow man and was left alone in the apocalypse. The other one was the scarecrow man and the brother were both scarecrows in the apocalypse with nothing but, the wind ending the episode. I think about this one a lot, it was one of my favorites.
Didn't see the the second one. Just the first one. Interesting alternative ending.
Fun Fact: This episode has an alternate ending where the protagonist burns the scarecrow aka the stranger and walks down the road now the last man on earth. That ending was even more melancholy if you can believe it. It amazed me how abstract this series could be when it wanted to.
I've heard of MULTIPLE alternate endings
@@kingnusmiI thought it was just 2
But which ending is tru one?
Honestly this one is probably true since on the haunting hour wiki there is a picture of the scarecrow burning
Its not abstract
Generic end of the world
I think what makes this episode so incredibly uncomfortable to me is how it all felt so uncontrollable. In most of Stine’s work, the MC will make a bad choice and it will result in a supernatural punishment. In this, it felt like there was nothing they could do to stop it. If it hadn’t been Jenny, someone else would have taken the scarecrow and the world still would have ended. Bobby and Jenny were just casually observers who couldn’t do anything. It was one of the first bits of media that truly made me feel hopeless. It also sparked up some old rapture anxiety I hadn’t felt in years.
I’m sorry for rambling, this episode just awoke some deep terror in me and I needed to vent.
No need to be sorry! It is truly terrifying being completely helpless
This reminds me so much of the 2001 Japanese movie Pulse. The end of the world isn't portrayed as this explosive humongous event, but as a sad desolate wasteland where people are just too devastated to go on and they kind of...blink out of existence. Life is too much for them seeing and feeling all this loneliness and quiet destruction so they just give up because what else can you do? The scene where the girl talks about the coldness inside her especially reminds me of Junko's scene in Pulse where she's so terrified and depressed that all she can say is "help me" over and over again.
Oh wow I really want to watch this movie now. Thank you for talking about it 🙏
You know, outside of being a sad/melancholy episode, I’m actually kind of surprised by the overall plot:
This feels like a Goosebumps/Haunting Hour take on actual Cosmic Horror. After all, it’s about a dangerous threat that can’t be understood or reasoned with bringing about devastation to humanity, and for inexplicable purposes, and all the protagonists can truly do is just watch as it all happens.
Gotta give the Haunting Hour props-it’s amazing what they were able to pull off in the show.
Yeah someone pointed out that this was the first episode where the children couldn’t at least fight back. All they could do was run until the inevitable happened
Gives me Junji Ito vibes ngl
Another existential episode that isn’t scary or has a bad ending that stuck with me as a kid was the episode where a lone boy is onboard on a plane with a man next to him. The boy talks with the man and they exchange their stories. The plane gradually has problems until it loses power completely. We learn that Death is on board disguised as an old woman. She is there to take away the man (I forgot if he is a ghost/wandering soul), but the man is afraid to accept death. Death causes the plane to lose power until either the man accepts death or until everyone on board dies. The boy comforts him and eventually the man accepts to go with death. The ending is a bit mysterious because of the last line. Death says “we will meet again”, the show makes it sound creepy as if the boy will die soon. But I interpreted it as a kid as “obviously they will meet again”
Wait was this a haunting hour episode?!?

THANK YOU for covering this episode. It’s honestly a masterpiece. Next I recommend “Lights Out” because watching this was the first time I felt genuine fear as a child. “Brush with Madness” is also super creepy, AND Dylan Minnette is in it. “Pumpkinhead”, “The Red Dress”, and of course “Dreamcatcher” freaked me out, and “Stage Fright” was one of my favorites. It was kind of creepy but mainly really funny.
oh wow thank YOU for all the recommendation's!!
damn i did not remember dylan minnette was in that 0.0
Stuff like this still spooks me. Like, imagine everyone you know just disappears, without a trace. Gone from this mortal coil, never to be seen again. Then this weird ass man shows up out of nowhere and tells you that he's wanting to share the end of the world with someone. the implications are nuts, and the boy hanging in the field with the man alwasy scared me. is he dead? Is he just stuck there forever now? Where did everyone go? Were they turned into hay? So many questions..
EXACTLY! I can't imagine being stuck as a scarecrow for all eternity.
The ending with just him reciting the poem was so good! This could be a feature length film. The acting in this episode was sooo good!
The perfect ending fr
@@kingnusmi this show honestly needs to get remade, or just put on a better streaming platform. It’s so good
@@Cristian-yv2xf it definitely should be on a better platform
This show scared me as a kid, but this episode broke my heart
Actually same tho
When your scarecrow is so good it scares away the entire world.
I swear at least your crops will be safe
"This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper" The final lines of the poem the episode is based on by T.S. Elliot. These lines themselves could be a short horror story
I watched this episode in my senior year of high school, just when I was going through my pretentious phase when I was super into poetry. I was just diving into T.S. Eliot at this time and this episode hit me at just the right time.
The stars just aligned for you
Honestly as someone who lived in farmerville USA (not meaning a real place) and Hockey city (northern US has a lotta people who like hockey for some reason) for most of my life, what Amy has going on is probably as Punk, Emo, Goth, etc as she could get.
LMAO that's true I didn't even think about people judging her super hard
one of my all time favorite episodes. it’s strange and extremely unsettling. doesn’t quite make a lot of sense at the same time, but god damn it’s fascinating as hell
Let’s go! More haunting hour!
Yessir!!
I'd like to point out, that the siblings are Cain and Abel coded. The bountiful herder and the spiteful harvester.
Oh wow they are!
The version where Bobby burns the scarecrow is actually on UA-cam. I saw it and didnt know because i watched the version where Bobby becomes a scarecrow.
i never understood this episode when i watched it as a kid but watching it now i think this might be the best one in the series
R.L. STINE WAS ON SOMETHING IF HE THINKS KIDS COULD WATCH THIS
ON GOD!
I think Scarecrow is my favorite episode. What episode are you covering next?
Idk I usually do a poll but hopefully “dreamcatcher” that’s highly requested
Its pretty cool to see good siblings in kids shows
I know! We need to see it more often
Crazy how covering this show made your channel blow up, but I’m super here for it
It’s absolutely insane!
@@kingnusmi I love seeing it though, you easily went from averaging 1k a vid to peaking at almost 70k now :’) it must have been so exciting to see the first nightmare hour video blow up
Deadtime Stories is a similar series worth checking out! Love The Haunting Hour content I've seen so far!
I'll definitely check it out! thanks for watching!!
Is that the one aired on Nickelodeon? I remember one being aired that’s similar to Haunting Hour on Nickelodeon
@@Salza02 yes I believe it was on Nickelodeon!

AYOOOOOO. Right on time. This episode was so cryptic. I wish there was more horror like this.
SAME
For other lesser talked about episodes how about "Bad Feng Shui", "Walls", or "My Old House"? I liked the creature design for bad Feng shui but Walls felt like such a weird trip after the twist was revealed
I don’t think I’ve seen bad Feng Shui yet but I did really love Walls!
Yes, finally someone mentioning The Walls episode.
Overall there are better episodes but the Walls has this uneasiness that it gives you where you just feel violated. Honestly even with the corniness of the show some moments of tension in this ep are better than some horror movies.
Another show recommendation is Over The Garden Wall! Loved this vid👍🏻
I LOVE Over the Garden Wall! Its such a cozy series
R.L. Stein has a thing against Scarecrows and Cornfields XD
Right!! This one was actually based off of a poem tho which is really cool
I’m sorry if you’re over making these already but I love these videos and as long as you keep making them I’ll be watching 😮💨
Not at all! I love making these for you guys!
dude your growing so much, i can believe it, you deserve it so much
Aww you’re being too nice thank you bro i appreciate you 🙏
do dreamcatcher next!!! one of my fav episodes, shit is lowkey scary and I haven't forgotten about it to this day...
I have a poll up on my channel! Go vote for it so it can win!
That scarecrow also played the park ranger in SPORES. And the brother was also in the episode Nightmare Inn.
What if it’s all connected 🤯 doubt it but it would be cool
The Scary stories to tell in the dark movie scared the hell oatta me, I only watched half of it but the scarecrow part disturbed me,this is kinda like it, except kid friendly, In the movie I’m talking about one of the bullies gets stabbed with a pitchfork by the scarecrow he used as a punching bag and then he starts to choke , and hey appears, coming outta his mouth and his skin grows leathery and he turns into a scarecrow
Oh yes I LOVED that movie! The red room scene scared the SHIT out of me my first time watching it. They did such a great job recreating the monster in that movie
You should try some of the episodes from the 3rd and 4th seasons!! I never watched them because they weren't on Netflix so I'm interested in seeing some reviews or thoughts on them. An episode I can recommend though, is the season 2 episode The Hole. I haven't watched this show in years but I remember that one being pretty intense haha. :) loving these videos!!
Absolutely! I usually do a poll and make a video on the winner but I'll start throwing in the later season episodes for ya!
I will recommend doing walls it’s a very creepy episode and it really shows the R.L Stine it’s very similar to Goosebumps I like to think about it like the haunted mask but way weirder I do think it’s the most iconic is the season besides the first 2 episodes anyways my favorite in the Season and I REALLY do recommend it
I’ll check it out for ya!
I could totally see you reviewing Moral Oral
I loved Moral Oral bro that show slaps
Although this show is no Goosebumps I love how majority of the episodes including this one have a dark and scary tone to it almost like the slasher horror movies we know and love. This episode I did enjoy but when I first saw it I was shocked and a bit conflicted about what exactly was the strange man's role in all of this and what happened to the the other townspeople. I also was wondering if by finishing that poem was a curse like Night of the Living Dummy but instead of bring dummies back to life it takes it all away.
It would be cool if that’s the poem that seals everyone’s fate in the end
@@kingnusmi What do you think happened?
Pumpkin head is definitely a creepy one
Absolutely
Its funny I just rewatched Bridge to Terabithia staring the main kid of this episode
a film where she gets pushed down an yelled at by her big brother after his friend died in a River
I LOVE Bridge to Terabithia! I forgot that she was in that movie 😂
I swear I remember this episode ending with the brother alone in the field burning the scarecrow.
That might be another horror show?
make a finale by watching the rest of the haunting hour video so we can all binge watch it. make it like 3 hours long
Good lord idk if I can do that in a week 🤣
Please please please make a video about dreamcatcher!!!!! That episode gave me so many nightmares as a kid!!!!!

Yesss! Highly recommended so it’ll be coming soon!
I hope we cover uncle howie next. It’s an interesting episode where the guy who voices SpongeBob puts on a hell of a performance. Plus too the character or entity that is uncle howie is a curious thing. Is he a creation of the little girl or a guardian angel type thing or just some lonely being who is just looking for friends?
I really enjoyed Uncle Howie and I'll absolutely talk about it one day!

I LOVE the twilight zone! I was thinking of doing a couple of the those episode too
@@kingnusmi Cool the 2000s version of Twilight zone has some cool episodes too.
Anyone else remember the episode where the kid has an imaginary friend? Turns out he’s not the only person in his life that’s imaginary. Characters name is shawn. Very sad episode 😢
Bro the Red Ranger got so screwed over this episode 😭
Nothing good comes with creepy, old men showing some interest in teenage protagonists. I watched an episode from Friday the 13th the series season three, where our main female protagonist of the episode gets hit by a car after escaping some classmates trying to SA her. She gets paralyzed because of the four monsters and gets stuck at home 24/7 with her mom being her primary caregiver.
They buy a wheelchair from some suspicious, old man who was able to start walking again after suffering a stroke from this episode's cursed antique of the day, a wheelchair. The girl gets talked into buying the wheelchair from the old man, she finds out that she's able to leave her body and murder her would-be r@pists. One by one, she finds out that she's able to regain some movement in her paralyzed body. I won't spoil how each of them go. She confronts the only black guy from the four boys that tried to SA her and caused her to become paralyzed from the start of the episode.
The guy is like the third to die which from 1980s' horror is pretty progressive, I guess you can say since around this time, horror always unalived people of color's characters first or early on in the slasher franchise. He tells the girl that he tried to stop his white buddies but she calls him out on his bs and says, "You did nothing, you just watched. You're worst than those guys!"
The main, main character of the series, John Ventura, one of the antique dealers hunting down the cursed antiques and has no family relation (thankfully) to the other protagonist antique seller, finds the main episode's female protagonist. He gets stopped by the old man from the beginning of the episode who sold the girl the cursed wheelchair.
The old man says that the boys made their choice and that the girl has every right to unalive them because of what they did to her and one of them is still going after her because his buddies are dying left and right.
Oh wow! This sounds like an absolutely insane show imma check it out
There's also the Anti-Christ in the show. First episode was a huge WTF with an invisible climbing up some steps and you know they're coming because their footsteps set up flames.@@kingnusmi

This was the most disturbing episode I saw.👀
Everyone is talking about how the episode had different endings.🤔
When the episode first aired, I only remember the part where the protagonist lit the farm on fire after the scarecrow made everyone in town disappear.🫥
This episode gave me a panic attack when I was little. It just ended up making me sad and anxious instead of scared.
I'm sorry that happened 😢

Can’t explain why but I love the Cinematography and Vibe of this show. Definitely has something to do with it being made in the Early 2010s.
Oh yeah it’s very nostalgic! They definitely are perfectionists when it comes to cinematography in this show
@@kingnusmi it was a great idea to make it look like you were stalking the protagonist

This was lived up to the show’s name. It was definitely haunting.
VERY Haunting
This is amazing. I’m one of the Executive producers on this show. It brings me so much joy to watch you all rediscovering it.
If you don’t know, this show won the Emmy for outstanding Children’s show 3 years in a row! It also won a ton of other Emmys for costumes, Cinematography, writing and guest stars! Omg I would love for this show to get a reboot it was such a great part of my childhood 🥺
Please consider bringing this series back. I love it!
Seeing this show dive into existential horror is wild. The ending of this episode gives me the same kind of feeling I get from Black Mirror or a Junji Ito manga. A blend of shock and emptiness.

Yeah this one's a lot more existential than the other more "traditional" horror examples you kinda get used to and come to expect in the series. And it's not like the kids here really have a chance to stop it or fight back like pretty much every other episode, the end of the world is stated to be inevitable and there's no way to really prepare for it.

It’s episodes like this that represent what the best horror is. Horror that makes you feel helpless before something incomprehensible.
