This video is from a British TV show called Ready, Steady, Go. This show had most of the Motown groups there and was hosted by the legendary Dusty Springfield. This whole show is worth watching. The Supremes perform several times.
The Supremes were second only to the Beatles in the 1960's, having 12 number singles to the Beatles' 20. And the two groups liked each other. They were the biggest girl group there ever was.
This video clip of the Supremes performing live is from April 1965. It was part of a UK Motown TV Special. Stop In The Name of Love! was their 4th of 12 US Billboard Hot 100 No1 singles between 1964-1969. The were the most success US recording artists of the 60s- only Elvis and Beatles scored more No1s. The choreography for this song has become one of the most famous dance routines of all time. The original line up, Florence Ballard on the left, Mary Wilson in the middle and of course Diana Ross on the right. Flo was kicked out the group in 1967 and died in poverty in early 1976. Diana went solo in 1970 and became an international superstar- one of the most successful artists of all time. Mary Wilson continued with the Supremes until they eventually disbanded in 1977. She then pursued a solo career and wrote a best seller "Dreamgilr My Life As A Supreme" It blew the lid and spilled the T. Mary died just a few weeks short of her 77th birthday in 2021. Diana has just completed her most recent world tour. She turned 80 in 2024.
The Supremes were one of the best Motown girl groups from the 60's. Most of their early material was written & produced first by Holland-Dozier-Holland & later by Berry Gordy or Smokey Robinson. They had so many great hits such as "Someday We'll Be Together", "Baby Love", "Come See About Me", "Where Did Our Love Go", "Back In My Arms Again", "I Hear A Symphony", "You Can't Hurry Love", "Love Is like An Itching In My Heart", "Love Is Here & Now You’re Gone", "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "Love Child" etc.
Love The Supremes! I was 12 in 1965. I took all my babysitting money and bought my first two albums……The Supremes and Sonny & Cher. It was a fabulous Saturday afternoon, and I still have those albums❤️❤️❤️
Very nostalgic... was a hit tune back when released and Diana Ross "lead singer" has a very unique vocal! Song got alot of radio time and with the Motown connection, the Supremes became a premiere act for Motown records.
Great reaction, ladies! This truly was a classic. ❤❤❤ I can’t wait for my reaction to Tori and Jim to air in August. I wasn’t able to reply so I’ll say that here. Keep having fun! Joe
I spent New Years Eve 1988 chatting with Mary Wilson, the Supreme in the middle in this video, with many other people in a fancy schmancy restaurant/bar in Beverly Hills. She was sweet, funny, and friendly as can be. And still a stunning beauty as well.
If you want to do contrasting videos do the Supremes " You keep Me Hanging On "from '66 , followed by the Vanilla Fudge cover from '67 . They are 180 degrees apart .
Ladies, if you like this try "You Can't Hurry Love" on Ed Sullivan 9/25/66 and "Reflections" on the Tennessee Ernie Ford special 12/2/67, taking note of the beautiful "Chandelier" gowns they are wearing (Many of their gowns had names.) Also noteworthy is the fact that they are FULLY CLOTHED, unlike many of today's female singers who appear dressed like rejects from a strip club.
It's difficult to convey the impact this group had in a short time: from August 1964 to December 1969 they hit #1 on Billboard 12 times. It took Madonna 20 years to reach that number. And after their first - "Where Did Our Love Go?" ('64) - they had four more singles in a row hit #1, one of them twice - "Come See About Me" - knocking The Beatles' "I Feel Fine" off the perch. In the Sixties, only The Beatles had more number one singles than The Supremes. And The Supremes were the first all-female act to hit #1 on the Billboard LP chart: first in '66 with "The Supremes A Go-Go" then with a double Greatest Hits album in late 1967. They topped the album chart again with The Tempations with the soundtrack to their joint 1968 television special, "T.C.B (Takin' Care of Business)"...hope to see you do another one by this supergroup!
Hey guys hope your well, do you know if you’ll be able to make it to my request this month. My wife asked me to request it for her and wanted to see it before I head back overseas
After Diana left the group there were a few different girls that came into the group and they still had several hits such as: Nathan Jones -Up The Ladder To The Roof- Stoned Love- I’m Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking.

No soundtrack to the 60's is complete without the Supremes. They were musical glamour.

The Supremes | Stop In The Name Of Love !!! Oh Yeah ! You are hearing the sounds of my youth. Bringing back memories.
My first concert was The Supremes. So good live. I think I was 17. Long time ago.
Great reaction! Gotta love the harmonies, synchronized dancing and exaggerated movements that were common at this time. Lots of fantastic music.

I never really appreciated Motown back then but this song is pure magic and has always found a place in my heart. This song was released in 1965.

Diana Ross, twelve Number Ones with the Supremes, six Number ones as a solo act and three Number ones in Europe and Japan. Legend.

Omg awesome
Diana was a huge influence on Michael Jackson. She took him under her wing in the 70's when he was a young teen.
The greatest hits release is insane.
Great Song-I think Barry Gordy wrote it I have to check Thanks ----- Brian P Birch
Written by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland, who wrote the majority of the Supremes Hits.
Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson went on to have single careers of their own but they never reached the same heights as the Supremes or Diana

The song is from about 50 years ago.
Oops It was written by the trio Holland-Dozier-Holland-I wonder what happened to those guys -and my last post

Florence Ballerd , Mary Wilson and Diana Ross that are the names off the Supremes
Thanks

oh, wow!! please more Diana Ross!!!
Grew up not too far from where they started, in Motown.
Motown
Diane is not the original leed singer..if my old man brain is remembering correctly. I think MaryWells was...
Mary Wells was a solo act on Motown, with a huge hit called My Guy.
In the early days they shared leads, but eventually Diana took main lead.
DIANA ROSS
You mean the people she has known, or talked with, or slept with. 😅😊
Hey guys hope your well, do you know if you’ll be able to make it to my request this month. My wife asked me to request it for her and wanted to see it before I head back overseas
