First time hearing this. Don't know how I've missed it all these years because it is great! Simple lyrics and crisp sounds. Elton has dedicated almost 50 years of his life to his fans and his craft. Enjoy him while he's still among us.
definitely agree that this song didn't get played a lot on the radio and it also seemed to have disappeared from the radio airwaves by the end of the early 90s, I remember hearing this on the radio back in the early 90s, this is definitely one of Elton's best songs and definitely one of his most underrated
Que divertido video...muy bueno el dibujos tanto de Elton Jhon como la demás gente ...muy ingenioso .......original y simpático que más puedo decir........ Gracias por esta greación magnifica ........
After his mid-1970s peak, Elton John struggled to make music that was worthy of his reputation. This song though I think is really pretty good. He's remained a great performer and still knows how to rock but his audience must have changed because, on the albums anyway, the screaming guitars went south a long time ago.
I was so young watching this on mtv,"the original video" that is,i couldnt make out the words but thankyou google for intstantly bringing the broken puzzle into place. I loved it from the start.
It's one of my favorite song from Elton John. I never understood why Elton John was singing this song the first time in 2000 at Madison Square Garden ... it is too good
This song reminds me of New Orleans. Just it being about a club and the saxophone playing. Also probably because a memory of it for me was when I saw it on MTV in a hotel in New Orleans when I was visiting there as a child.
One of EJ's best vids, despite him not being in it! XD The animation is great, but obviously what drives the song is the song itself an infectious low-key masterpiece. And my favourite song off SLEEPING WITH THE PAST. (Very thankful for the change from the original "...you and me rendezvous..." to the grammatically incorrect but sensible rhyming "...me and you rendezvous...") ^_^
Godwin's law should now state as an online discussion about music grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Justin Bieber or Kanye West approaches 1. But good video. I've always loved this song and the video is quite good, even if Elton didn't have that much input into it..
What an absolute SHAME that this song wasn't a big hit... Extremely overlooked, since this song has been preformed live a grand total of 3 times (the 2 One Night Only shows and the warmup in PA)
Artist: Elton John Album: Sleeping with the Past Released: 1989 Version English Artista: Elton John Álbum: Sleeping with the Past Fecha de lanzamiento: 1989 Version Español
Not sure why people keep saying this didnt get much airplay. i was like 5 years old and even I remember this so it definitely did. Just not now because its 2016 people. You have Justin Bieber, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift to listen to now. Yeah...pretty sad.
MR. ELTON JOHN ONLY CONSIDERED THIS TO ME A "MINOR" HIT...REASON: BECAUSE IT ONLY MADE 99 MILLION INSTEAD OF 100 MILLON...LOVE THE MAN LOVE HIS GIFT OF MUSIC...BUT CAN'T YA BE HAPPY WITH 99 MILLION...I CAN!
Why o why is this song not as popular as the others. I think i'ts a great song! And the video is pretty cool. Maybe because it did'nt get enough air time in i'ts day or bad promotion by the record company.
"...there's a downtown smell of cooking from the flame of an open grill..." - ah the simplicity of the times: could anybody even imagine a setting like this in 21st century clubbing?! - not to mention what the health inspection would do to that "open grill"...
Thats What Bernie Taupin Said At his 60th Birthday Celebration When He Introduced Elton,Look At The Body Of Work Between He And Bernie Since 1967 When They First Met,There Collection Of Songs Is Endless,Ever since empty sky theres been 45 to 50 albums that elton has done, and hes due to work on a another coming out late this summer 2009,i mean come on dude these guys are geniusness.thats not even including the work hes done for disney,or broadway.
I feel 129% certain that the similarly animated video to Rod Stewart's "Motown Song" is a satire of this, plus a satire of every other major artist they could manage to throw in. I maintain this theory despite the fact that Animation City produced both of those videos, along with another animated Madonna video ("Dear Jessie").
A very Underrated classic .One of my all-time favorites.
+Gary Macrie If it had been released in the 70's it would have been #1 for 2 months! Something went astray after the 80's..
+GaryMacrie
I agree 100%
This is such a happy, upbeat song.. Ive loved it for years, Elton John is Amazing!!
+Leslie Geringer Me too! Agreed. It's better than Prozac. Heck, it's better than ECT!
+Leslie Geringer I agree with you.
+Leslie Geringer agree lady magic song...
Oh the memories! awesome video, awesome song. Love the cat, love how E.John's hat sparkles

I remember going to clubs like this in the 80s. Great times! Thanks for posting!
Is this simply one of the happiest, fun tunes ever???? Excellent.
You nailed it !!
I'm not a huge Elton John fan but I've always liked this song a lot, this song didn't get the airplay that it truly deserved.
definitely agree that this song didn't get played a lot on the radio and it also seemed to have disappeared from the radio airwaves by the end of the early 90s, I remember hearing this on the radio back in the early 90s, this is definitely one of Elton's best songs and definitely one of his most underrated
One of the greatest videos that ever lived !

Memories of the late 80's, and of my first years recording videos off TV in hi-fi stereo on my Super Beta!
I absolutely LOVE this video!!!
+veela lynne It's great!
I was really surprised this wasn't a much bigger hit, i don't think it had much radio play for some reason, though it's very catchy
one of the most underrated songs of him. . . . great song!!
One of my fave EJ songs. Elton John is DEFINITELY one of my all time fave singers and this proves it!
Simply wonderful.. Thanks for posting
What an awesome song. Love the video too
Surprised this did not do better in charts. Phenomenal rhythm, beat, great balance of instrumentation. Some songs that should go very high never do.
Ещё одна шедевральная вещь Элтона из альбома 1989 года"Sleeping with the past" Один саксофон чего стоит! Masterpiece, just for only saxophone!
loved this song from when VH1 played it in the early 90s all the time. Even a superstar like Sir Elton has some overlooked songs like this.
What a sweet nostalgic video by Elton John. And, how cool was that, where they placed that red 1967 Corvette in there! Cheers.
Great song! My favorite Elton John song! Vastly underrated. Funny how the older I get this kind of music appeals to me more.

I've never ever seen this video before! I love it! Especially the cartoon of Elton! hehe!
My absolute favorite song ever!!!
This was one of his best and I think most underappreciated songs. How it only peaked at #28 on the charts is baffling to me.
Great song!!! Fantastic artist!!! nuff said...

Agreed a true legend seen him live best concert I ever attended.
Love that sax solo at the end !

This song.... so downtown NY... love this number . sang in the way as only EJ can do it..
This song reminds me of New Orleans. Just it being about a club and the saxophone playing. Also probably because a memory of it for me was when I saw it on MTV in a hotel in New Orleans when I was visiting there as a child.
What a song, what a video..

One of the best B sides ever not released.
#28 on billboard hot 100, #2 on billboard adult this was released as a single off the sleeping with the past album.
If they made a live video of this song it would be good if it was set in the club and the Hot Little Trio was Elton with Eric Clapton and Phil Collins
Love that picture of Elton John in the top hat by the door.
An all-time great Friday Happy Hour song!
Del album " Durmiendo con el pasado "
tema 04 , lado 1 ( 1989 )
My Elton GH album is missing this song and I Don't Want To Go On With You Like That. If it had those two songs, it'd be perfect.
I love how it's animated. I'm glad he didn't use real live actors. Like you said, we are the richer..and so was Ryan. :)
so cheerful, very contagious, can't stand still :)
great song!
increible!!!!

Que temazo por Dios.

Yeah Elton John's song would run circles around Elvis's songs and KWEST. Elton John rules.

Elton John has beaten elvis presleys record for string of consecutive number 1 hits in the charts over the years
I have yet to see anything more Ligne Claire than this.

Big fun. But can't remember what I was doing then. I might've been in the club...
My god I feel so old watching this video clip.
Great video..How about the nose on that doorman at 1:08?
This could be the song to a TGI Fridays, Applebees' or Chilis. lol
