    I was inadvertently forced to grow up in NYC because of the wars. Moved back to belgrade in 2005 (after 16 years in the US), best decision of my life, never looked back!

      Oooooh but being from Toronto, NYC is special, thats where I fell in love with a jewish/gypsy girl from Ukraine when I was 18..... and well, I would have lived there if the Americans were not so fascist with visas for Canadians to live in their country. But yeah, I would get sick of that too and move to fucking Belgrade... Instead of NYC, it was London.. Different shit, same smell.

    I am a Brazilian living in the Netherlands. What you said about the people in London is basically the same for the people here... they’re cold, have a sense of moral superiority, are boring and arrogant, have no charisma (with some exceptions). I went to the Balkans on vacation and fell in love... beautiful, polite, friendly, warming people and an amazing culture and beautiful language. Western Europe is maybe richer, but they lost that social cohesion that drives a society. I felt somehow safer and more secure about the future in the Balkans. You have that proud, that joy of living and what I call “good patriotism”. Please don’t believe the Western media! You are on the right path! Time will tell! Much love from the Netherlands!

      CM V Yes you are right about London, so much different people are there, you just need to think which vibe you like and go straight to that one, this is the thing I like about London, there are opportunities to choose whom you would like to make friendship with, others could be ignored in total.

      Quality of life here in Serbia is zero, I would emigrate out of Serbia if I could only have an opportunity. Serbia is lawless country, corruption and nepotism is present everywhere.People with middle schools in state service are paid more than professors and physicians. My family lost house and entire property in 1945 when communists came to power and it was never returned back to us. Stil Serbians are proud of something they can not be proud of.

    Hi, yep, I lived in East London - Stratford - awful, I managed a year and it was not for me. However, I had come down from the North of England. You should have checked out living in the North, cheaper, more friendly and I returned with joy! That said, I bloody love Belgrade. I have been working with colleagues on projects in the Western Balkans for 8 years. I chose to actually have my 50th birthday last year in Belgrade, with my great friends. I can only tell you that I totally get your love for Belgrade. Thanks for your vids, really interesting!!

    1:53 as an ex Londoner for that exact reason. As a Canadian you can speak the truth because you're a migrant yourself. If an English person said anything like what you just did, they would be called extremist or racist... As a white English Christian who was being told very violently that I don't belong there, by migrants who'd just arrived. I grew tired of their bullying. Am sick of political correctness for people who want to change others ways of life, especially when they use pc only for speaking against their way, their life, their culture, their religion. That is not integration or unity we welcomed them with. There are many other nice places of the world to see. London is probably the last place I'd ever choose to live again on earth. If anyone was truly hand on their heart honest about London.... It's a complete multicultural, disastrous, failure.
    It might have worked if migration was better managed, less hate filled psychos, and good caring, positive, loving people came instead..... Anyway, lessons learned for other places. Don't follow what London did.

      There are lots of people coming from west to live in Serbia, Croatia, Poland etc only because they want to live among people who resembles them, culturally and physically. That's just how nature works and there is nothing racist about it, at least in my book. In western countries you can't live like that anymore so they come to eastern europe. They all say how Serbia is safe, even in night time you can walk where ever you want, well that's bc we are 99% white christian country and that's truth, if someone finds this racist idc.

      yeah, thanks for this, it is actually more about mentality than geography... the best solution for those who want to leave is for them to GO AND COME BACK. Sitting and complaining for sure does not make anything better in Serbia... Going and trying in the world, whether leaving Serbia or not, that will lead to development for sure. Wake up and try something today, if you are lazy you will get nothing, but if you try, you will at least learn.

      Soo true.. London, is all about having/wanting to have money. Everyone is basically at each others throats. There's far too many people, and its easy to understand why there's this constant flow of flu infections circulating the public arena.. Houses are far too small, and the culture is far too varied.
      People are so repressed that even when they're dating, serious amounts of alcohol get consumed everyday. Health wise, I noticed that hygiene in YU states is far better than in UK. I know that sounds crazy, but its true. Yugo states also recycle more of their waste than UK (especially Croatia, & Slovenia).
      The fact that unemployment is high gives people the ability to spend more time together. I think this also plays a part in how they define their neighbourhoods & families. Here in London, in 10 odd years that I've lived at the same address, I might have met my neighbour 5 times..

    Slavic-German mixed heritage-what hell of combination. :) :)

    • @BelgradeBeat
      @BelgradeBeat  7 років тому +16

      It used to be more common before the ethnic cleansing in 1945.
      For example my grandmother's name at birth was Vera Dragica Teck (now it's Vera Dragica Muth) and she grew up in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (former Pressburg, Austria-Hungary) speaking German and Slovak equally. I can't say that she's Slavic or German, she's both, with 1/4 Czech blood and a family tree which extends all through the former Austro-Hungarian empire... My grandfather, also from Bratislava, also spoke Hungarian, Czech, Serbo-Croatian, Ukrainian, etc...
      Then the Russians came in 1945 and proceeded to kick us out. Parts of my family stayed though, my grandmother's sister married a police officer from the communist regime, but still everyone had miserable lives under communism, where us who went to Canada just had to put up with the boredom of living in the country.
      My mother is half Ukrainian also, her family were from Kiev and were in charge of breeding horses for the Russian Czar. They heard there was going to be a war, so they left Ukraine in 1914, before the big shit. Had one kid, Peter, who married an WASP (White Anglo Saxon protestant) who was my grandmother, who was crazy enough to marry a Slav first marriage and a greek for the second.
      Short story, I am a Slavic German and Serbia feels like my natural habitat.

    • @visi_inspektor_besevic
      @visi_inspektor_besevic 7 років тому

      You have really really mixed roots. And I don't know if anyone told you already that you still have some German accent. At first I thought your are originally from Germany but when I heard you say Toronto,Canada I was like WTF! :D
      I'm not surprised that you feel Serbia as natural habitat maybe because your Slavic side gens "work" and "want to go home". :D
      That's normal because I also know some Serbs how feel much better living in Spain,Italy or Ireland than Serbia. It's just like that and who knows why. I have a friend,born and raised in Serbia went to school together, who told me something like "I feel I'm alive only when I'm in Barcelona". The other one use every single chance to spend time in southeast Asia,Vietnam,Burma etc. The guy just LOVE to be there. I like Mexico or Mediteranian lifestyle (wich is pretty similar to Serbian lifestyle,hehe). So,that's normal, some people just looking for their own part of the sun under the sky.And that could be elsewhere than place they were born and raised.
      Anyway,glad you enjoy your life in Belgrade. And just go on. That is only matters.

    • @BelgradeBeat
      @BelgradeBeat  7 років тому +5

      yeah.. my german roots do show... and so do the slavic ones i think.
      we should all go where we feel our heart's passion strongest, for me it's here. if you go to a place like that and follow your heart, i believe that all other parts of life can fall into place if you work hard to make it happen.

    Hello Erik. I think that next time you visit the UK, you should have a look at the North West...Liverpool and Manchester. Very different to London. Both are known as being welcoming to immigration, especially Liverpool with its rich seafaring history. The NW is rich in culture, music, history, sport. Well known as being a completely different vibe than London. The people are a lot different, more humour, more laid back. If anywhere reminds me a little of Belgrade, its Liverpool, I think. Maybe have a look..

      You can do it also. You know that everything is corrupted here so "veza" would ask for money to get you a citizenship. It's easier to marry some girl-friend in some municipalities, then to give money to our corrupted police. That kind of "wedding" is cheaper than "veza". 😂
      Also with Serbian passport you don't need visa for Cuba. :)

    You get a really nice three bedroom house in a decent area in Liverpool for £500 a month, I don't understand why people who live in The UK choose to live in London, when places such as Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow in Scotland are much, much cheaper to live.

You're right- in London you can step up your game and it tests you in ways you can never imagine... but hey when you make it in the big smoke you can make it everywhere! And how awesome it is to make money in UK and spend it living in Serbia? Surely many young Belgraders would do the same! ;) enjoy BGD!

    With all due respect, there are 9 million people in London. As an American who used to live in both Belgrade and London, I met many warm, wonderful people in both cities. Just last week I ran into some Londoners here on vacation in the states who were some of the nicest, friendliest people I’ve ever met.

    I have one question for you.

      ДА!!!! Науђио сам многно... још увек правим грешке као ви стално погрешите на енглеском језику, али ако мошемо да се разумимо онда баш ме брига и идемо далје на енглеском на српском или било који језик... Белгрејд бијт је на енглеском језику јер то је нешто баш свеже... ако ја би све то рекао на српском то би било нешто баш другачије, јер на српском језику уопште ви сте превише брутално и глупо када причате са другим србима, али то је неки други проблем који не могу да се решим, и тако причам на енглеском. тако само говорим ову поруку на енглеском!!! све најболје, ЕРИК!

    There are two sides of each coin. Having lived in Belgrade my whole life, I've always felt my privacy was constantly intruded by random strangers. So, the first time I've visited London (6 years ago) I felt instantly refreshed and grateful that the strangers minded their own business and let you live in peace. And I fell in love with all the cultural diversity and the vastness of things you can do and explore, and like-minded people you can meet that share very niche interests with you and won't judge you for sticking out of the crowd (people in Serbia can be very narrow-minded and judgemental, homophobic etc.). Since then I've visited many times and I can't wait to move there later this year, to live with my fiance who is English. I'm really glad there are people like you who think completely the opposite of the way I do, because you leave the room for people like me to move there, and vice versa. :) Thank you!

    • @BelgradeBeat
      @BelgradeBeat  7 років тому +7

      Thanks for the comment :) Yeah, well we all have different styles and such and different places we fit in. I'm some sort of heterosexual white (some say alpha) male who likes to intrude upon and dominate people around him with loud and dare i say aggressive behaviour, which is a type of personality which is much more welcomed in Serbia than in subtle and polite England or neurotically decent Canada.
      Also, obviously I don't mind people getting in my shit or else I wouldn't be making these videos.
      I can see how London is for some people... For me for business for example, it's great, but I just can't stand how reserved and insincere the people are. It's the opposite of who I am in the very core of my being.
      Good luck when you go over there. I always support people who have the courage to go out of their comfort zone, the country they were born in and are willing to go through the growth that starting in a new place entails :)

      Belgrade Beat As a Brit I can completely understand both views of London. Personally I love it as a place to visit, sort of would like to live there for a year or so, (if I could ever bloody afford it) but honestly glad I grew up and live in northern England, people are just more open and friendly. I hate to generalise but southerners need to loosen up. You perfectly described the problem with people in London and even somewhat still true with people where I live. Always love travelling as people are far more friendly and open, for me to only return to the emotional depressed world of the UK.

    I've been lived in London and I've heard people say 'Anywhere in M25 isn't a place to live'... London sure is a splendid tourist city, but to live, perhaps it is only for 'rich guys' or 'positive folks'.
    East London is full of rude immigrants, I hate east London as you do.
    About the Belgrade, I think maybe it's because you're at the wealthier class in Belgrade but not in London... Which made you contact with different kind of people everyday... There must be some disturbing things in Belgrade as well. I've never been to Serbia so I can't say.
    I wonder if, and the reason why many East European countries are not under PC Vibrations.

    You can only live well in Belgrade because you have an income generated in London. You are only interesting for Belgrade women because you are not a Serb but a Canadian living/earning a living in London. You yourself said you couldn't earn a living in Belgrade.
    What you are looking for is adoration and respect, but in London this has to be earned, in Belgrade it comes gratis because of your passport.
    To enjoy London you have to become part of a community. If you don't make the effort you can't expect the reward.
    As for cold Londoners, just because they don't stick their nose in your affairs and don't automatically think you are a blonde god worth cultivating doesn't mean they're necessarily aloof. It's just that you haven't been properly introduced.
    Enjoy Belgrade, where anyone can have fun for less than 800 euros a month. But only a select few can enjoy all the culture and challenges that London is offering on a plate -- the rest just moan.
    Serbs can be wonderful people. But the Balkans can be one of the most corrupt and violent places on the face of the earth.
    And ... why talk about your London experiences while walking through one of the poorest areas of the capital?
    Finally, we haven't seen your video of life in Belgrade yet. Surely instead of living on hard currency, you should show us what life would be like for you in Belgrade on a LOCAL salary in dinars.
    P.S. Maybe you should have followed that girl to Warsaw.

      "But the Balkans can be one of the most corrupt and violent places on the face of the earth."
      London is in the news almost every day for stabbings.
      And the Balkans actually has a lower murder rate than many European/EU countries.
      People keep thinking of the war - but the was was due to key western countries - including the UK.
      The UK and other NATO countries were working with separatists and sending in military equipment just BEFORE the wars & dismemberment of Yugoslavia started.
      There were thousands of mercenaries, from the UK alone, and they were mostly on the Croats' side, until the Bosnian war - then you had UK mercenaries (many who were/are soldiers but who took "leave" or "retirement" for a few months/years to save from any legal problems if they were caught).
      Some of those British soldiers ended up getting killed by the side they fought on (Muslims) - like Ted Skinner and Derek Arnold who went to train the Bosnian Muslim army but were decapitated by Mujahideen who thought they were spies.

      Just type Charles Cather ad you will see. Lately, we have a lot of foreigners, coming to our country, making videos about our lifestyle, saying all the best about Serbia... Unfortunately Serbs are naive people, and they accept every foreigner who steps on serbian soil. I believe western people come to our country with intention, usually bad intention. Logical question: why would someone from Canada, which is on of the best countries in terms of living standard, move to Serbia? By the way, you came to Belgrade which is the biggest anti serbian center in the world. I agree with you when you say that living in serbia is good and cheep, but only for foreigners:)

      I encourage everyone to post their reality on youtube and put their voice in the world. For me Serbia is not something which is happening lately... It's been more than 10 years and I live in Belgrade, speak the language, eat your food, drink rakiju and make close friends with your females. If people want to show up and make videos like I have been doing for a while now, I welcome them, I have sent Charles an interview request. You should welcome anybody who does not have the fucking crap victim doomed for failure mentality that most people in Serbia do. If somebody is sick of being poor and poor from being sick, I am in Serbia to help. Of course it will be a while before most people get their heads out of their asses because the way you are all brainwashed to fail is so strong and runs so deep.. But I am here to help and if you don't like it, please don't watch my videos.
      Here's a song/video I made in 2009 with serbian musicians with a fun trip to the gypsy camps ;) ua-cam.com/video/Hi40fV6ZnWc/v-deo.html
