I just want to say THANK YOU Coach Julia! This video really helped me pass this dance. Without it I wouldn't have. Always love your breakdowns and advice.
Aww watching this brings back memories of when I was too pregnant to skate freestyle so my coach wanted me to learn the Dutch Waltz. Maybe one day I'll test it!
@@CoachJulia I just started an ice dance class! This really helps because I need to review the steps off-ice. It's hard to remember the steps to the dance, and without reviewing and seeing them, I forget the dance by the next class. 😲 Please post more ice dance tutorials if you have time. 🙂 Thank you!
Thank you so much ❤ I just joined an ice dance group and was expected to just follow along. 😅 but it was confusing. Really happy to find this structure here 🙏🙏
Hi Julia, thank you so much, amazing! One idea that would be amazing for all your dances, (and I don't think anyone else is doing it?) would be to have a 'skate along' audio (using video) version, so that people could listen to it on the ice with headphones on whilst on ice to learn the steps by hearing your voice. So you would detail all the steps like you do here, but just a little more detail ie; which foot you are stepping onto each time you do a foot change... That way the skater can easily realize if they have made a slip up somewhere :-). It would be great if you go through it 3 times (same narration 3 times) in the same video. The first version narrated at 1/2 speed of the actual dance (remember we are beginner skaters, so maybe can't skate as fast as music yet...!). Then do a version at 3/4 speed Then do a version at full speed. Then finally do a version with your voice, with music in background. That way we can play the speed (eg 1/2 speed) over and over, and then as we get faster, move up to the 3/4 speed portion of the video, full speed, then finally, add the music. It would be literally like having coach Julia in our back pocket guiding us! - Would be incredible! (Please please!) Thanks for your consideration! Melissa.
You know what, I am actually working on building an App and plan to have audio tracks like that for people to use! Should have a preliminary version up and available on the app stores by mid-summer.
Oh this is so interesting! I don’t know if this is a regional difference or a time difference, but back when I was going to test this (over a decade ago 😂) the progressives (or cross cuts as we called them) were step “up” step, the up was another step, but you lifted the leg you weren’t standing on so your boot was near your knee, straight up! I wonder if it was modernized or if this is cause I’m in Canada! Neat!
Your figure skating videos are always very nice and well produced! As for the Dutch Waltz, your timing with the music was a little off and slow on your Forward Progressives particularly on the first three counts. However, timing on your Forward Progressives was better on the very last pattern you did with the music.
@@paulasfigureskating5612 International Dutch is 138, American Dutch is 120 and has the crosses on the ends. Try doing this to "Nothing Else Matters" from Metallica. It is a great song to sneak into a public session so you can do the dance.

You're so welcome and I am glad for you that you passed! Congrats!
Ahhhhhh! The music to this routine happens to be the instrumental version of my wedding song!! Now I HAVE to learn this 😊

Thank you so much for this video. I’m learning the beginners dances and this is soooo helpful. Would love a tutorial for fiesta tango too please 🤗
Great suggestion! I will try to get to that dance soon!
@@CoachJulia that would be so awesome. Also Canasta tango as your coach mentioned in the beginners ice dance video 🥰
beautiful!!!
Thank you!

I appreciate the feedback.
Coming up in the knee on the first step of the progressives isn’t necessary and caused the timing to be late…and off. Agreed.
Can u make a video how to do the counters?
I've got that on my list!
@@CoachJulia i would love to learn it! Please set it as a priority hahah
OMG HII IM YOUR BIGGEST FAN
Thank you!
I loooove your skating leggings! Where do you get them? Or do you have an online store?
I make them myself! I do hope to have an online store sometime soon!
I love you.
Is this a re-upload?
Yes, I had a problem on the back end with the otherone and had to re upload it. 😣
Hi Coach, love the 1-2-3 . If you can fly me out I'd love to be your skating partner if my wife gives me the okay. Good stuff, thanks Coach Julia!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Can you show how it's done with a partner.
I think my coach last week was talking to me about this and the fact she broke her ankle somehow doing it😅. Then she had to redo it two months later
Oh my word! So dramatic!
Wasn't this already uploaded? 🤔🤔🤔
Yes, I had an issue that came up with the other upload and had to re-upload it. Unfortunately.
@@CoachJulia is it related to the guest that is no longer in the re upload? 🧐
Coach Julia, is this a 120 or a 138 Waltz?
The Dutch Waltz should be at 138 bpm.
