Hi Everyone!
I'm going live on my UA-cam Channel for the first time since the pandemic started. This time I've got my camera guitar and a nice little setup for teaching.
I'm teaching a lesson first, then I'm happy to field questions that might come up.
If you enjoy this lesson, I've got a weekly live Q&A like this on my Patreon every week. Most people think of Patreon as a donation site, but mine is a full blown music school. Learn more about it here:

This was so fun everyone! Thanks for joining me!
You're the man you sexy beast
Yo Paul, what next date you planning to give new stream?
@@paulsavage4777 not sure when my next UA-cam stream will be, but I do a live Q&A like this every week on my Patreon

Cant help but admire, how many things is this man good at. Excellent camera setup. Amazing use of softwares. Flawless communication & teaching. mind-blowing at playing guitar. He is entire company in himself.
Aww shucks
The best guitar teacher on the internet in 2021. I wish he made more content.
Evidently he does but his primary instruction is at the Patreon site.

I really like how creative you are on explaining this. This makes learning so much easier. I really learned a lot. Thanks, Scott.
Just needed to applaud Scott for being willing to try a live lesson with all of the technology, including cameras, software, etc. and the risk of something going wrong. He's already the best instructor on here, but he's still pushing himself and elevating his channel. Kudos.
The Greatest Online Guitar Teacher! The best Explanations, Editing, And Videos - PLEASE POST MORE - THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
I can never forget how much I owe you for understanding chords using your charts. The WWHWWWH opened so many things for me. Forever grateful 🌹
Wow! Thank you, Grace. I really appreciate that
I learned from this guy about the guitar more than I ever learned from anyone else
Best teacher on UA-cam!!! Keep them coming Scott!
I’ve watched so many different teachers online, but you explain things in such an easy way for me to understand. Thank you!
Yep long time no see🤗 coolest guiter teacher in the world i hav ever seen!
This is the best music theory video lesson I have ever watched. Thank you for making music theory so entertaining. You taught me without me having to make an effort. You make it look so easy! I am a big fan! You rock Man!
So good to see you back... Keep the content coming 👍
I’m 40 next month, and have been “ playing” since I was 13….love learning to expand from Green Day power chords. These lessons are great. Thanks very much!
I assume that those with thumbs down are too good for this lesson. My question is that if you are too good or whatever for this amazing teaching, why did you show up here? If you didn't like it just move on and let us learn Slash, ok?
There needs to be an award show for music teachers. Scott would demolish every teacher, every year. This man tops Marty, Steve Stine, Justin guitar, etc. The amount of joy Scott gifts people after every lesson needs to be rewarded. I look up to Scott even more than anyone on Rolling Stones top 100 guitar players of all time. Why? Because he gifts the knowledge of music theory and breaks it down for even the simplest mind, as myself, to comprehend. Scott Paul Johnson is a GOD and if anyone disagrees, well... well then you probably know all your theory and I sound like an idiot. BESIDE THE POINT, bottom line, Scott deserves a cult following and he shall be our leader.
I agree. He explains things at a pace that can be digested. Andy Wood also does a good gob, but man... drink coffee before watching him
Yor caged video was one of the most valuable and helpful to me out of all videos anywhere. Thanks for taking the time my friend.
You are my favorite guitar music teacher and I want to thank you soo much for all your content.
Your setup is insanely good. I cant say how much I appreciate it enough.
Many thanks for your generocity in sharing your valuable knowlege to the world! greetings and much love from Ethiopia🇪🇹!

This video was so inspirational! Thanks, Scott! Please keep up the great content! :)
So glad you’re back brother! Your lessons are so easy to navigate and learn. Don’t go missing you get again lol
You are an excellent instructor. You explain things in plain English and the knowledge transfers effectively. I know this because you answer my questions as soon as I think of them.
OMG you are the best! I’m 50 years old and I never got this from anyone else or any book. You even recapped just when I needed it.
My favorite teacher ever easy to understand ❤️
That was very nice and instructive. Great video for anyone looking to learn more about playing guitar in general.
I love your content... I have been asking myself where did you go 'cause you are the one who taught me about the caged system. Welcome back my great teacher. Am happy to see you
Thank you so much! What else are you looking to learn?
You're the best man. That's all that needs to be said.
Hey I'm 118 years old, and I am teaching myself how to play guitar, actually awhile back I used to play when Les Paul was young, back in the Fifties, when I was in my Fifties, I helped him build his first electric guitar out of an old Martin, a bull horn, wire and a handful of old TV tubes. Les got to messin around one day when I was out of town selling vaccum cleaners. Well he got that bull horn cranked up so loud that when he hit a major triad above the 12th fret, the neighbor's german shephard broke loose from his chain and attacked the mailman and half the letters in his satchel got chewed up. One of those letters was for me, from Chuck Berry who had just hit the charts with "Johnny Be Good." I wrote Johnny Be Good, and sold the song to Chuck, at a tavern in Memphis. Chuck sent me a hundred dollar bill that was completely chewed up by the damn dog. A hundred bucks back in the 50s is like $2,000 today, hell you could buy a damn fine used pick up truck for a hundred bucks, or pay six months' rent. So I got pissed off at Les Paul, we quit being pals after that and I quit playing guitar because of that damn first electrified guitar and I traveled around for the next 7 years with Roy Rogers, Trigger, Dale Evans and an old dude they called Fuzzy, because we would get together, sing with his Buckaroos, and they never used no damn electrified guitars, but they did use six shooters whenever they opened up the oven to see if the biscuits were done, they'd fan 3 shots with a - crack-crack-crack, and if them biscuits smiled and the bullets bounced back, they was ready to eat, what a tasty snack. So we wrote a song called the "Biscuit Blues." Les Paul wound up with a partner named Moore Jack, and they tried our stunt with the oven door, they opened up the oven to see if the biscuits were done, and Moore fanned four shots from a 44; well the biscuits smiled and the bullets bounced back, two hit Les and two hit Jack. They was buried out back and the headstone reads- "Here Lies- Les and Moore, shot themselves four times with a 44, No Les no Moore." Its been 60 years since I quit playing guitar but with your help I will be the best again.
for real?
Thanks Scott. Some of this was crucial pieces of the puzzle that I had been trying to put together for a while.
Amazing teacher, as usual.
You explain this concept so well that you cleared doubts I had for two years. Thank you dude
Thanks! What specifically did you have doubts about?
@@ScottPaulJohnson from where and how can someone get that a chord is minor or major when using a escale.
Oh yeah! I’m glad this makes more sense. If you really wanna solidify these concepts and the ones that pile on top, check out my online school www.scottpauljohnson.com/patreon

Hey man glad to see you, I was with you from the beginning and I watched a vid of you talking about the pentatonic scale, i had been familiar with the scale way before your vid but, after the lesson you said now go and play some solos, I'm not sure why but soon as you said it I was like pentatonic solo oh yeah, yeah I can play pentatonic, and that was my first ever experience to soloing over chords by a simple sentence, you truly are a great teacher,. Thank you,,
I have learned a lot since a follow you Scot,
Probably the best lessons i have seen so far.
And also i do laugh a lot when watching you teaching us, dont change anything.
Cheers from Belgium !
I learned two songs on guitar by reading tabs. I have read some music theory a know some Simple chord shapes. i just gained a boost of knowledge by seeing all the music theory Scott talked about.
This is GOLD!!
Haven’t seen you in my feed for a while. Glad to see you!
this set up is ridiculously amazing and helps portray your points so well
Easily the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. Thanks for your effort.
by watching your caged approach ive learned more about guitar than I have in twenty years playing with no instruction. thank you.
Awesome! Is there anything in particular that has made the biggest difference?
@@ScottPaulJohnson oh, yes, the thorough explanation about placement and how each of the shapes relate to each other on the fretboard. I'll add, a friend of mine tried to explain the caged theory to me over 15 years ago, but didnt get into the detail of how to apply it, or how to run through the placements in relation to each other.
Same!
Fantastic job teaching and using tech so effortlessly. Clear explanations and personal style. Bravo!
Amazing software integration and presentation. Well done, SPJ!
I'm from Russia, and I really like your video, although I don't understand everything you say, but the language of music can be universal. I learned about the caged system from you, it's cool. Thank you Scott Paul
Best teacher on UA-cam, hands down!
Best Music Theory Video I found so far. Thanks, I learned a lot
You are great, thank you 🙏
god this was such a good lesson, you’re a really good teacher, Mr Scott Paul Johnson
Oh man, I’m so exited there is another video. For some reason, the way that you explain and demonstrate… It just clicks for me. I even had my 12yo daughter watch and she understood the lesson as well. We both started playing when we got guitars for“Covid Christmas 2020”
and learning to play thru UA-cam has been a bit overwhelming and confusing. So let me say Thank You for the great videos and Thanks a million for being a great instructor.
the king is back! 👑
Fantastic. Well done. You explain things so clearly.
1 week into learning guitar. Trying to learn 5 chords and get used to strumming and doing spider walk type stuff. This video lesson is way above my station, but super interesting. Many thanks.
I will be back.
Dude- you’re a gift to us!
It's very helpful! Thanks! Greetings from The Netherlands🤘🏻
Best 🎸 lessons ever👍.Keep it going buddy👏👏
Which software do you use to make those visualizations appear on the fret board?
Kindly share the link.
I'm honestly impressed how great your set up is! The different views and animations makes it so good to follow! Keep it up
Thanks! I do a weekly Q&A at my online school with this guitar every week - at least I will when I set the thing back up - I just moved across the country. In the meantime, check out my 150+ lessons available so far: www.scottpauljohnson.com/patreon

Hi Scott. Watched your HOW TO SOLO Part 1 and Part 2.I am immensely grateful. So easy to digest, not overwhelming, always reassuring. Religiously following those tips. I am now making progress by leaps and bounds. PS : WOULD you kindly incorporate the idea of 3rd and 6th harmony in your next solo tutorial. I thank you in anticipation.
So great how you clear my mind...🙂👍

Thank you Scott.i just discovered your lessons.i live in israel and we are in terrible times.we are in a war.a lot of people were draft and i find some peace in your lessons.
Thank you so much and welcome back to live! Blessings
been there done all that with others, but this and your caged video seriously opened my doors and I'm pretty much only playing skate punkish riffing for the band. I've always been able to write riffs without ending and they sound good by ear but knowing WHY where how...will probably make me over all better at doing just that....writing. Thank you so much for this content.
Great lesson as usual. Thanks Leonardo!
Great presentation with interesting topics shared in just an hour. Thanks Scott.
Very helpful video.... It has made my day🥰
thank you very much for this explanation.

Wow, just a day or two ago I commented on one of your video's how I wished you still posted video's on UA-cam and here you are! Thank you Scott!! And don't worry about giving away the farm. Just give us a little taste of the milk and eventually we might just buy the cow. You know what I mean, Cow = online school.
