    What an amazing athlete! We live in privileged times to see top of their game athletes like Serena, Mikaela, Novak, Brady, etc. Pedal to the Metal!

    Ouch it hurts seeing FIS putting up courses with artificial difficulties (such as the jump into a compression for the faster skiers in yesterday's downhill at the top, and a jump right before the finish line when everyone is tired) and their schedule not allowing for any rest. It was worse for the guys with all the additional races added close together after all the cancellations from the (too early) beginning of the season.
    On another note Atomic SKi Fans: not sure if it's because of the source for these videos or what, but on UA-cam I get little cracking of sound that make it hard to listen sometimes. Do you think you can take a look at your source material and try to identify the problem? Your channel is the only one doing this. But love the content so want to keep watching :)

      You do understand that the ammonia and other snow treatment intended to level the field - making the snow icier to vastly reduce ruts , has major effect on edge control.
      (and the sound is nearly immaterial, for actual race viewing, as observation of the course's effects and the slight fatigues that induce mistakes are visible were this silent filming.
      THIS is the reason people desire to observe sport not the vocalizations

    There may be a significant difference in injury number and severity between the two sped disciplines and the two technically-oriented race types.
    Ingemar Stenmark not engaging in downhill, or later in super-g, surrefered few injuries.
    That Michaela's quest included these had worried me as to her career length and success. She certainly achieved success, and controls her training strongly.

      Lindsey Vonn mostly specialized in Downhill and Super-G; thus, had a lot more injuries or would have skied in a lot more events in her life and most likely won more victories. I am glad Mikaela does more Slalom and Giant Slalom events, but does try a limited number Downhills and Super Giant events proving to be alone of the best overall skiers in history. Both Mikaela and Lindsey skied and won in all alpine events. I wish that Wide World of Sports was still active like in the 1970's to 1990's, which covered a lot of weekly World Cup Alpine ski events. US citizens only get to see these great two athletes in the limited Olympics. US citizens have missed out on 177 World Cop victories by these two women, plus numerous podium finishes., because TV coverage now days is so limited.

    Mikaela Shiffrin will most likely go down as the most successful alpine ski racer ever.....Now anything can
    happen with pro sports and maybe ten years from now another phenom will come along and eclipse her....
    If that does happen she will still be among the most successful alpine ski racers of all time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      “Most likely…”??? Bro, this is once in every 4-6 generational talent, not to mention her work ethic to continuously raise the bar for herself. She ain’t close to being done. Let the chips fall where they fall when all is said and done. BUT, just enjoy the moment, her races, the way she glides down the 🏔️ and her body control when it’s SO EZ to let up. Don’t be jinxing anyone, esp her. She’s too solid of a person to NOT give her the due respect she deserves. She’s writing history in front of all our eyes, most definitely the GOAT in Skiing, NOT most likely… 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Where she crashed was a pretty bad designed track. If you go a little wide the turn before that left hand, there is no room to recover to take the left hander without crashing. Zero Margin for error. They need to study the F1 road courses to learn.

      BS.
      The course of every ski race is commonly the same run for decades. Only the setting of specific gates varies.
      In areas where trees exist, over years, many more have been removed over time.
      The net technology catching fallen skiers has improved significantly to reduce injuries.

    • @Boxer1250RT
      @Boxer1250RT 6 місяців тому +5

      @@briseboy That Net Technology is as old as my GrandPa. It is a stone age technology. It does not prevent injury. It just keeps the Skier from falling further. Also, Skiers are not wearing the best possible protective Designs. They can learn from Motorcycle Race Suits. Currently, there is No airbag Jackets, No Neck Braces, No elbow or wrist protection. Skiers are at the mercy of Lazy Gear Companies. Besides, why the Hell Italians made her walk up hill. She should have never walked after that fall.

    • @subtleillusions
      @subtleillusions 6 місяців тому +2

      The issue isn't a poorly designed track; the issue is that Mikaela took a much longer jump and she landed too close to the gate. If you look at the other skiers, they land much earlier, giving them plenty of time to make the turn around the gate.

      @@Boxer1250RTItalians , Austrians, Swiss and the whole FIS circuit need to learn ski issues and organization from ev'ry keyboard hero and "expert" of web, sure ! 😂😂😂 Have you any idea of what you're talking about ? The DH and SG events provide any competitor of air bag x the back, it's mandatory since at least a decade ( get informed before posting senseless statements). The rescuers in Cortina operated perfectly, they're long time experienced and they know what to do, it's not the holy mess we've been seeing in Kilmington so many times.

    Shiffrin is not fit for downhill, she totally sucks, made an embarrassing elementary mistake ! Downhill is not for her, mikaela stay calm and worry about slalom, you need to be born for speed competitions. Definiteky downhill is not slalom 😊

    • @carlobrotto7132
      @carlobrotto7132 6 місяців тому

      @@mapo7053 and you wash your keyboard before posting pointless statements. Out of 4 downhills won 2 are fake : the last on last dec. was the easiest course of the entire world cup as it looked more to a giant slalom, and that in Bulgaria was an easy track the day Goggia and Suter were out for injury. No need to add more, I only repeat Shiffrin is not a downhill racer and the injury he got was due to her evident lacks in speed competitions.

      FYI, Mikaela has won several races in downhill, including one just this year. Many downhill specialists crashed on this track, including Corinne Suter who is the reigning Olympic gold medalist.
