I was really thinking, “ How did I miss this? Is this another one of those games that got overlooked or similar to Alice madness returns on ps3?” Then he was bluffing lol.
FFX has a special place in my heart. My dad had just moved out at the time in late 2001 and we connected on the phone over our progress on the game. And I visited his new place and we played together. We both completed the sphere grid, shared stories of our adventure and put 100+ hours into the game. I stopped gaming after that for about a decade and my dad passed away shortly after. One of the best memories I have of him.
Thanks for sharing that story. Memories like that are great to hold onto and strengthen your dad in your heart. I love FFX as well, on my top 10 all time. You should play the sequel if you haven't. It's also very good
My top 10 PS2 games: 1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 2. Silent Hill 2 3. Ico 4. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness 5. Shadow Hearts Covenant 6. Dragon ball Z: Budokai 2 7. Yakuza 8. Max Payne 9. Persona 3 FES 10. Project Zero II - Honourable mentions (just to name a few): Obscure, Killer 7, Dirge of Cerberus, Maken Shao - Demon Sword, Jak and Daxter trilogy, Sly series, Star Ocean Till the End of Time, Resident Evil Outbreak, God of War II, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, KH 1 & 2… the PS2’s back catalogue of games is full of 🔥 titles, and there’s so many brilliant classics to choose from. A legendary and phenomenal console for sure!
When my wife and I first started living together, Final Fantasy 10 was the first game I got her super addicted to. My first, and only 100% complete, playthrough of it was actually a co-op run between my wife and I, with her pulling the vast majority of playtime. Sharing it with her made it the most memorable Final Fantasy to me. I will always love the game for that reason alone.
The PS2 is the most overrated console ever made. Compared to the Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast it was a pretty mediocre console. It had weak and underpowered hardware, only 2 controller ports when all the other consoles had 4, the design of the console was generic and ugly, you had to buy memory cards to save games, the controller had an awful design and was very uncomfortable, the console had a ton of technical issues, PS2 exclusives were overrated and mediocre and most of them eventually got ported to other consoles and the PS2 also had the worst version of multiplatform games with worse graphics and performances. The only reason it sold so well is because it was a glorified DVD player and because of brand recognition.
@@anotherguy12 Most exclusives were mediocre and 3rd party games ran the worst. Ok that first statement is complete horseshit. The second.. how about the fact the PS2 had ALL the 3rd party games, often exclusive to the console. Compare that to the GameCube which struggled to get anything on it with that crappy tiny disc format. I do prefer the GameCube because of its exclusives, but the PS2 is undoubtedly the more well-rounded system that can appeal to any demographic due to the most massive library of quality games.
Dude, please keep doing what you’re doing btw. You’re channel has made such an impact on me man. I appreciate all you do Jonny. Even if it seems like just talking into a camera, you make a difference in people’s lives more than you know.
Yeah man. He’s the kinda guy you’d wish for a friend. Casually gushing about our favourite hobby while dropping all kinds of fascinating stories from ages past.
Now its like a tradition to me waking up in a sunday morning, my only rest day, like 11am argentinean time, make some coffee and breakfast and watching a new video of yours. Thanks!
@@vladv5126 I'm just stating facts. The PS2 was the weakest console of the 6th generation. It had the worst controller out of the four consoles and you could only use two controllers on it instead of four like all the other consoles. All of the PS2 games were extremely overhyped and overrated and many of them eventually got ported on better platforms. The PS2 had the worst version of multiplatform games, with lower resolutions and uglier graphics. The PS2 also had a lackluster online service that was miles behind Xbox Live and speaking of which, the Xbox had a hard drive, so you could keep your save files on the console unlike the PS2 where you had to buy dozens of memory cards. The only reason people bought a PS2 is because it was a DVD player. It was a terrible console.
There is my list : 1) Jak and daxter 2) God of war 3) GTA Vice city 4) Tony hawk’s Underground 5) 007 : Nightfire 6) The lord of the rings : the return of the king 7) Bully 8) Burnout 3 : Takedown 9) Jurassic Park : operation genesis 10) Spider-Man 2 But overall, I love almost all the games of the console. They all have a certain vibe which makes them special. Thank you for the video and the nostalgia :)
Love the PS2 so much, my list is: 1. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix 2. Devil May Cry 3 3. Final Fantasy X 4. Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal 5. Jak 3 6. Sly 2 7. Metal Gear Solid 3 8. Dragon Quest VIII 9. God of War 2 10. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 All games that I still love playing to this day and there are still many I’ve never played.
-GTA 3 -Final Fantasy 12 -Shadow of the Colossus -Twisted Metal Black -Kinetica -War of the Monsters -Soul Calibur 2 -Metal Gear Solid 2 -Silent Hill 2 -Resident Evil 4 (complete) Edit: And yeah, these games WILL hold up to you having fun with them to this date upon picking up that controller
@@tzovlask Hell yeah, buddy. With that one, I was squatting at this apartment with a friend who had an alternating work schedule than I did. It was like, unwritten law that if one guy was at work, the other guy was unlocking shit for the other, before needed rest. We destroyed that game. And then on the weekend days off, it was VS time. Fucking glorious times.
Personal favourites (but not all of them as there are so many!) - Onimusha Warlords, Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Soul Reaver 2, THPS3, Tekken 5, Medal of Honor Frontline, Soul Calibur 2, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Maximo, Quake 3 Arena, GTA3, Devil May Cry, Manhunt, Star Wars Battlefront, God of War and God of War 2. I'd better leave it there as I could go on all day! So many fantastic memories.
@@anotherguy12 and ? Maybe they were better hardware wise but the ps2 was a more memorable console and had the most fun games on it, And still it’s the most sold gaming console ever so stop riding Microsoft’s D and grow up.
Champions of Norath and it’s sequel were games my dad and I played completely multiple times! My brother got me into JRPG’s but my dad was the one who got me into games! Incredible memories playing games like Fallout 3 with him! I miss him everyday since he passed back in 2019!
DQ8 is special for me because finally the character on the front package looks exactly just like the 3D model of the main characters in game. Not a Chibi/ Super Deformed/ Pixel Sprite. The closest representation of conceptual art to actual 3D art in game its really unthinkable for its time. And its Akira Toriyama's art to boot. You cant help imagine the possibilities maybe if they can start to make a Chrono Trigger in that style.
I was thinking Chrono Cross and Tekken 3 on ps1 was astounding on that hardware. Just my opinion, usually by end of a generation, spectacular games are made and push to the limit. Chrono Trigger would be great to have. I would buy instantly for a remake.
There's a massive amount of incredible looking RPGs on PS2 that I've been drooling at whilst checking the clock for free time, but the RPG bug never bit me until I bought a PS Vita back in 2013 and loaded it with every available classic PS1 RPG I could find, so I've been playing catch up ever since. And so my top ten is all action games, aside from one. 1. Max Payne - The Punisher with a detective noir twist and bullet time powers 2. Kingdom Hearts - an apocalyptic adventure wrapped in charming childhood nostalgia 3. Spider-Man 2 - free form mechanics in a dizzying sandbox with euphoric physics 4. Vice City - car chases are never better than they are with 80's music 5. Resident Evil 4 - apparently wrong to play on PS2, but it's where I fell in love with it 6. Ratchet & Clank - a hilarious and slightly morbid satire of corporatism 7. The Sands of Time - a beautifully voice acted mystical tale of swashbuckling romance 8. Psychonauts - it's quirky and weird, but also hilarious and profound 9. Dark Cloud - my first PS2 game, ultra charming, with fun Zelda-clone mechanics 10. Final Fantasy XII - also dropped it twice and finally finished the remaster
I don't get the whole "resident evil wrong on the ps2" that people like say nowadays was it as nice looking as the gamecube no but it had extra content I was there day one picking up on ps2 I was so close to getting a gamecube to play it but then when capcom announced they were bringing to the ps2 I thought well might as well wait I was happy just to be able to play the game and the duelshock 2 felt great to use
So cool you included Tony Hawk's Underground. It was my first Tony Hawk game and it changed my life. I became a skater for a few years, introduced me to so much good music, got me to play all the other games and buy the new ones as they came out. Got me into Jackass and Viva La Bam. Skateboarding was a huge part of my childhood because of that game and was something that shaped me into who I am today.
Some of my favourites are MGS 2 True Crime NYC GTA Vice City Persona 4 The Getaway FFX Ace Combat 5 Kingdom Hearts 2 Rainbow Six 3 MGS 3 Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks Mortal Kombat Deception Midnight Club 3 Gran Turismo 4 To name a few, the PS2 had so many great games!
One (of many) things I adore about the PS2 is that the library is so rich and varied, you could ask dozens of people their top ten and get dozens of answers. For me, I'm still working my way through and discovering more of the library, but so far my favorites are Kingdom Hearts II, Persona 4, Ōkami, Wild ARMs 5, and Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3. There are a few others I feel will be on the there soon, but I want to spend more time with them then first
Shadow of the Colossus is my favorite with a massive lead. It was the first time a video game actually made me feel sad. (Didn't play FF7 until like 15 years after it came out. Also, I was still like 12 when SoTC came out.) The world was so mysterious, and all of the online rumors filled my mind with endless possibilities. SoTC made me realize that games can be genuine art. I ended up doing literally everything you can do in the game. Normal, hard, both time attacks, challenge runs/speed running, glitches and overall breaking the game...so much time with it. Then the PS3 version came out. Platinum. PS4 version came out. Platinum. If a PS5 upgrade comes out, platinum. It just means so damn much to me. Kinda sad. But true. Runners up would be Silent Hill 3, Disgaea 2, Haunting Ground, God of War 2, Devil May Cry 3, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal and/or Deadlocked, Jak and Daxter, Final Fantasy XII, We
My top 10: 10. *Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis* 9. *Shadow of the Colossus* 8. *Odin Sphere* 7. *Soul Calibur III* 6. *Tales of the Abyss* 5. *Suikoden V* 4. *Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater* 3. *Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4* 2. *Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King* 1. *Okami* Man, the PS2 had so many classics on it that limiting myself to just 10 is really harder than it sounds. Easily one of my favorite consoles.
My top 10 PS2 games are almost solely based on the nostalgia i had while playing the games (I also couldn't afford many games, haha, got my PS2 while the PS3 was out for two years). Devil May Cry Dot Hack IMOQ GTA San Andreas God of War Phantasy Star Universe Guitar Hero 2 Sly Cooper 3 Kingdom Hearts Spider-Man 2 Need for Speed: Most Wanted and then honorable mentions are the Teen Titans and Ghost Rider games. Teen Titans has co-op for the story mode which was so fun, and I'm just a fan of Ghost Rider's aesthetic, for a licensed game I think Ghost Rider is a bit underlooked at tbh.
How is it so far? Would only buy a steam deck for emulating but I’m afraid I won’t know how to do it on there or that a lot of stuff won’t emulate good
Such an amazing list ;) My top 10 10 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence 9 - Final Fantasy X 8 - Shadow of the Colossus 7 - Kingdom Hearts II 6 - Silent Hill 4: The Room 5 - Persona 4 4 - Silent Hill 2 3 - Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King 2 - Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne 1 - Final Fantasy XII
PS2 is such an amazing system, something that we might never see again. So many great games, especially RPGs. DQVIII is my favorite DQ and probably RPG as well. Such a great and relaxing game with an unmatched atmosphere and world building. It shows that you do not need fancy events, a large cast of characters, or overly complicated gameplay to have a good and fun game.
The Final Fantasy X battle theme still remains my all-time favorite in the series. It’s so nostalgic every time I hear it. So many great games I have memories of. Shadow of Rome, Downhill Domination, Extermination, SSX Tricky, the Dynasty Warriors series, Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2
Man, PS2 was such a legendary era & personally my favourite out of them all!!! Not in any particular order, but my top 10 would have to include GTA 3 & Vice City, Prince of Persia (Sands of Time), Smackdown HCTP, Def Jam FFNY, THPS 3, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4 & Max Payne. But there are so many more games that could be on this list tbh.
PS2 is the most overrated console ever made and most of the games on this list are either mediocre and overrated or have better versions on other consoles.
PS2 was my childhood. My top 10 in no order 1. Onimusha 2 2. Jak and Daxter (First game) 3. Silent Hill 2 4. Ratchet and Clank: Deadlocked 5. Metal Gear Solid 3 6. Tony Hawk's Underground 7. GTA Vice City 8. Shadow of Rome 9. Metal Gear Solid 2 10. Jak 2 Honorable Mentions: Max Payne 2, Onimusha 1,3,4, Jak 3, GTA 3, RE Code Veronia X, and The Getaway 2,
FFX, MGS2, MGS3, Yakuza, Tekken Tag, Klonoa 2, Silent Hill 2, Dragon Quest VIII, Parappa The Rapper 2, Gradius V. Thats off the top of my head, no doubt Ive missed some bangers.
I don't like to pick favorites, so I will instead list all of the PS2 games that I have played: - Devil May Cry 1, 2 and 3 - Final Fantasy X and XII - God of War I and II - Gran Turismo 3 and 4 - GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas - Jak and Daxter 1, 2 and 3 - Kingdom Hearts I and II - Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 - Ratchet & Clank 1, 2 and 3 (Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal) - Resident Evil 4 - Shadow of the Colossus - Silent Hill 2 The PS2 was an amazing console and it is probably one of my favorites along the PS3.
Most of these are overrated and mediocre games while the others have way better versions on Xbox and GameCube. PS2 is the most overrated console ever made and the PS3 is also one of the worst consoles ever made. PlayStation has been trash since the PS2 released.
@@anotherguy12 This is the most ridiculous statement I have heard in a while. PS2 games are some of the most critically aclaimed and beloved games of all time, they are far from being mediocre. As for multiplatform games, you are right that Xbox and GameCube often had better versions of multiplatform games, but these games would often come out on PS2 first and then on Xbox and GameCube at a later date and since the PS2 would get these games first and also had some of the most popular exclusives, people would go play these games on the PS2. The console is far from being overrated or one of the worst consoles ever made because it had a great library of games and it was a very affordable system that came with the added bonus of playing DVD movies.
@@ikkeneso9906 That doesn't change the fact that PS2 games are overrated and that Xbox and GameCube had the best version of multiplatform games, so in the end, PS2 is still overrated and inferior. Also like you said the only reason people bought a PS2 is because it was a glorified DVD player that was cheaply made and was full of technical issues.
@@anotherguy12 I am ready to bet that you have never played any of the games that I have listed, because I refuse to believe that someone could think that every single games from a single console are all bad. You are probably a toxic fanboy that feels the need to downplay another console to make himself feel better about his console of choice.
Rogue galaxy hands down the best action RPG on the ps2. spent over 100 hours on that game and loved every minute off it. Also main character is voiced by will friedle from boy meets world!
I bought Dragon Quest 8 bc I thought the cover looked cool and was super disappointed initially to realize it was a turn based rpg which I wasn’t into at the time. Decided to play bc I already bought it and didn’t have lots of money to throw around at the time and absolutely fell in love. I never did finish it although I believe I was close but I credit this game for getting me into rpgs. The characters, the music, the world was all done so well
Great video. This is my top 10 1. Metal Gear solid 2 2. Final Fantasy 10 3. Way of the samurai 4. Timesplitters 2 5. Grand theft auto San Andreas 6. Hitman 2 7. Metal Gear Solid 3 8. Genji 9. Beyond Good and Evil 10. Broken Sword 3
I enjoyed the SOCOM games a lot. Really impressive how well they made a military shooter for consoles and the voice command worked really well. I also played Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox with a headset and that barley worked. I once coughed and my teammates threw a grenade and killed me. :D I also liked God of War 1+2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 a lot, by now they are available on other platforms as well but they were PS2 exclusives until the HD Collections were released. Metal Gear Solid 2 is also a great PS2 but got ported soon to Xbox and PC and I played it on the latter with awful controls.
I can't help but feel like narrowing down the PS2 library to 10 games is doing a disservice to the massive and varied library that it had. That being said you did a good job justifying your picks and it's great to hear how passionate you are about them.
Great list Johnny!👍One of my favorite video game consoles! So many great games for this console too. Here is my personal top 10 games that I love. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Need for Speed: Underground 2 Final Fantasy X Gran Turismo 4 Def Jam: Fight for NY Grand Theft Auto: Vice City SoulCalibur II Tekken 5 Dead Or Alive 2: Hardcore Honorable mentions: Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Capcom Vs SNK 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
The ones that I recall spending a lot of time on or still have fond memories with would be: Resident Evil 4, Black, Final Fantasy 12, Samurai Warriors 2, Warriors Orochi 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Burnout Revenge, Nanobreaker, Metal Gear Solid SOL, Killzone, Rumble Roses, Dragon ball z Budokai 3.
Love your list! Here are my personal favorite 10 PS2 games: 10. Need For Speed Underground 2 9. Final Fantasy 12 8. Okami 7. Metal Gear Solid 2 6. Sly Cooper 2 5. God of War 2 4. Shadow of the Colossus 3. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 2. Kingdom Hearts 1 1. Final Fantasy X Honorable mentions include: Beyond Good & Evil, Dragon Quest 8, Persona 4, Bully, X-Men Legends series, GTA 3, Sly series, Ratchet & Clank Series, God of War 1, FFX-2, SOCOM: US Navy SEALs, Max Payne, Psychonauts, Arc the Lad: Twilight Spirits So many great games!
The PS2 had so many games I love. Here are a few off the top of my head that I love: Persona 4 Kingdom Hearts 2 Tekken 5 Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3 Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Dragon Ball Z Infinite World Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal Soul Calibur 3 Sonic Mega Collection Plus Sly 2 Band of Thieves Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition
The Budokai Tenchaichi series was something else! I was so thrilled when the Xenoverse titles were coming out, but disappointed when the combat system in those were so dumbed down from the BT games. What an incredible roster, and *the* most DBZ-feeling gameplay there has ever been.
Dragon Quest 8 and Okami are definatly top games of all time. For ps2 I was also super into platformers. The Jak and Daxter games were my faves and I also rlly liked Sly Cooper, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Whiplash and Vexx!
@@jimmymackinnon8474 oh i Have played i-ninjaA that is another very good one! I remember seeing dr muto at stores and stuff but it didnt grab me at the time but maybe ill check it out somday! I think i saw a review of Haven awhile back and it looked interesting will prolly add that to my backlog too ^^
I was pleasantly surprised to see to see that Dragon Quest VIII is your favorite PS2 title. It's mine as well. I would love to see a remake of it. The story, characters and events that take place in every new town as you look for the one resposible to what happened to the king, the princess and their kingdom just keeps things interesting every step of the way to the very end.
I love DQVIII also, but I really don't want a remake, since it looks and plays great as it is. However, I would welcome something more like a basic remaster/port to current gen platforms.
My list -> - FF12(sadly two Times the memory Card lost the Data on about 40 hours😭) - Naruto Ultimate Ninja 5 - Budokai 3 - Resident evil 4 - GTA San Andreas - Shinobido - Tenkaichi 2 - Burnout 3 No.2 -> Tenkaichi 3 And No.1 -> Dragon Quest 8😍😍😍 Was the first DQ i played. Still in Love with this game
I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, but Tekken Tag Tournament was probably the biggest PS2 mainstay at my house in the early 00's. (Especially the bowling mode.)
I just played ffx this year (i know super late) and it has been one of the most recent gaming memories that have stuck with me for awhile. Stellar world building, music and characters
These are my top 10 PlayStation 2 games that were not on this list and I will also do something different where each game will be a different genre: 1. Rumble Racing (arcade racer) 2. Gran Turismo 3 (sim racer) 3. Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica (JRPG) 4. NBA 2K2 (sports) 5. Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy (3D Platformer) 6. God of War II (Action Platformer) 7. Gradius V (Shmup) 8. Shadow of Destiny (Puzzle Adventure) 9. Odin Sphere (2D Sidescroller) 10. Simpsons Hit and Run (Sandbox)
one thing that makes god of war look especially pedestrian to newer players is that around that time, and especially on the ps2, it was the beggining of a wave of 3d brawlers, from devil may cry to bayonetta
Great list... just a few thoughts: I think KH1 clicked with me so much because of all the Final Fantasy characters in it, something the series has toned down/ completely omitted since then. THUG was an amazing game and probably my favorite skateboarding game of all time. Great story, great gameplay, great Easter eggs. I prefer the old God of War games to the new one, especially 1, 2, and 3. Didn't care for the gameplay changes in the new one and found it to be terribly slow paced compared to the originals. Felt like an entirely different series. MGS3 is probably my favorite game of all time, if not then it's easily top 5. Wish more games had innovative ideas like this one did. Epic boss fights too.
My Top 10 PS2 games were Metal Gear Solid 3, Devil May Cry 3 SE, Shadow of the Colossus, Beyond Good & Evil, God of War 1 & 2, Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal, Jak 2, Final Fantasy 10, and Tekken 4.
With so many great games it's hard to choose, mine would be Persona 3 Kingdom Hearts 2 Digital Devil Saga 1+2 Devil May Cry Disgaea Xenosaga 3 Dragon Quest 8 Tales of the Abyss MGS3 Snake Eater Silent Hill 2
I am thoroughly impressed with your top 10 PS2 list! Many of your favorites are also mine: Shadow of the Colossus, GTA Vice City, God of War, Final Fantasy X and, especially Final Fantasy XII (my all-time favorite FF game). These titles bring back so much nostalgia and happy memories of the early 2000s. Some of my other favorite PS2 games are Gran Turismo IV, and both the Resident Evil and Tomb Raider series (particularly RE IV and TR: The Last Revelation). I've played Dragon Quest XI on PS4 and I have DQ VIII on my 3DS, but I still need to play it. I'm sure I'll love it as much as you did since I adore DQ XI and I'm also a huge fan of turn-based RPGs.
I played FFX for the very first time, the PS2 version, last July into the fall, and boy oh boy did I fall in love with the title. It’s got such a vibe artistically/musically and the turned-based system is so much fun! You and me both listen to that OST to fall asleep, Johnny, haha! Thanks for another great video, my friend, have a great start to your week!
Just recently picked up a black ps2 slim. Never had one growing up but always played Tekken 5 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 at a friend's house. This video came out right on time!
Yes 💯 I have a file were I have yuna does 9999 with all her spells got most of all the sphear grid all unlocked and all my characters have learned all the moves . The grinding did it for me. BAHAMUT ADSOLUTED MONSTER 👹👹👹
I loved Silent hill 2 & 3, Vice city, Smackdown 4 & 5, Broken Sword 3, Dragons lair, Dogs life, Mortal Kombat deadly alliance, Wipeout fusion, Formula one 2003, The Hulk, Simpsons road rage, Simpsons hit n run. That Barbie moment made me smile 🤣
Love the PS2 and still have one hooked up. Trying ro collect for it and there are so many games for it that I still haven't played. My favorite games so far would be Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Okami, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy X and XII, Devil May Cry 3, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal, Champions of Norrath, God of War II and Resident Evil 4. I could go on and on. The PS2 library is crazy.
My list: 1. Final Fantasy X 2. Final Fantasy XII 3. Ico 4. Dark Cloud 5. Persona 3 6. Star Ocean 3 7. Devil May Cry 8. Katamari Damacy 9. Shadow of the Colossus 10. God of War Greatest console of all time. The Final Fantasy games on it alone are timeless works of art.
So glad Kingdom Hearts was on your list, it’s my favorite game of all time! I’ll take a stab at my top 5 on ps2 1. Kingdom Hearts 2. DBZ Budokai 3 3. Sly 2 4. Dragon Quest 8 5. Kingdom Hearts 2
Awesome video dude. Such a great console. My top 10: 10. Gungrave 9. Timesplitters 2 8. Capcom vs SNK 2 7. Jak 2 6. God of war 5. Final fantasy x 4. Kingdom hearts 3. Kingdom hearts 2 2. Dragon quest 8 1. Persona 4
FF12 is a great game, it just take time to enjoy the gameplay at first but once you get your 1st zodiac, develop your gambits and unlock your limits breaks for your characters in the grown system, this is where the gameplay really start to get fun. and the story is very good, especially the parts with Balthier.
My 10 in no particular order apart from number 1 😆 10 - bully 9 - gta san andreas 8 - gun 7 - mercenaries 6 - destroy all humans 5 - dbz tenkaichi 3 4- smackdown here comes the pain 3 - nfs underground 2 2 - mortal kombat deception 1 - gta vice city
My top 10, including JP-only imports: 1. Tales of Destiny Director's Cut *JP ONLY* 2. Tales of the Abyss 3. Odin Sphere 4. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix 5. Final Fantasy X 6. Tales of Rebirth *JP ONLY* 7. Persona 4 8. Metal Gear Solid 2 9. SMT Digital Devil Saga 1&2 10. Silent Hill 2
Nice video. I really like ur channel and stuff that you are making. Some of my favorite games on ps2 are silent hill 2-4, shattered memorise, final fantasy X, metal gear solid snake eater, Shadow of the colossus. These are games that I have played and are my favorite. Thx for reading
No Silent Hill 2 on the list ? Lol. So many awesome games on PS2. Resident Evil 4, Grand Turismo 4, Max Payne2, Manhunt, Ratchet and Clank, Soulcalibur 2, Odin Sphere, Twisted Metal Black, Virtua Fighter 4, etc. Man I know I’m forgetting more.
I love equipping everybody with axes in final fantasy 12. It's a much higher chance of hitting them hard then previous final fantasies. And the Gambit system was amazing! There was one enemy in the game that spawned sub enemies and you could leave your console on overnight grinding.
the ps2 is one of my most nostalgic systems. my bigest collection of games is from the ps2 and still looking back i missed so many good games like dragon quest 8, that in the time i didnt knew about. still it was in that platform that i played some of my favourite games of all times like mgs2 and 3, persona 3 and 4, shadow of colossus and ff12.
Loved the PS2 days and still play some of them every now and again. You never really knew exactly what you'd get and it made you wonder what the future would hold.
What a console with so many memories.. Great top10 Johnny. Although I'm a jrpg fan mostly, i consider these to be the best in the system. Honorable mentions and really close to top10: Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Grand Theft Auto III. My Top 10: 10. Okami 9. God of War 8. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty 7. God of War II 6. Shadow of the Colossus 5. Silent Hill 2 4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 3. Resident Evil 4 2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas 1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Great list. In no order - Resident Evil 4 - Final Fantasy X - Final Fantasy XII - Metal Gear Solid 3 - Shadow Hearts 2 - Legend of Dragoon - Legend of Legaia - Kingdom Hearts 2 - Devil May Cry 3 - Dragon Quest VIII What a beast of a system.
Mine are: Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry 3, God of War, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Dark Chronicle, Rogue Galaxy, Kingdom Hearts 2, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Black, Burnout 3
the shadow hearts series is my beloved franchise on the ps2. The idea of an horror rpg has not been explored. it was so fresh and different at the time. And I think there is still nothing like it.
Dragon Quest 8 is my favorite PS2 game, favorite Dragon Quest game and favorite game of all time. I know it sounds corny but this game changed my life.
I remember making several ps2 top lists. I have them saved since 2012 and still have many to go. My top 10 that I played are: FFX, Warriors Orochi 2, Time Splitters 2, Burnout Revenge, Urban Reign, Marvel vs Capcom 2, God of War, We Love Katamari, Puzzle Quest, Soul Calibur 2. Of the ones you listed I think I would also love most of the ones I didn't play yet.
barbie honorable mention got me, was thinking look at the range this guy has to play really everything
hahah I did not expect that
I was really thinking, “ How did I miss this? Is this another one of those games that got overlooked or similar to Alice madness returns on ps3?” Then he was bluffing lol.
I prefer Barbie's horse adventures myself.
Yeah. Johnny did a great job of selling it.
His commitment to the joke was incredible. XD
Wow my dude.... chills... great gaming story!! I am so sorry for the lost of your father! 🙏🏾
Sorry for you loss man. FFX is my favorite game of all time
Thanks for sharing that story. Memories like that are great to hold onto and strengthen your dad in your heart. I love FFX as well, on my top 10 all time. You should play the sequel if you haven't. It's also very good
Final Fantasy X is mediocre and overrated
Just his opinion. It doesn't diminish our experiences with the game
My top 10 PS2 games:
1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
2. Silent Hill 2
3. Ico
4. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
5. Shadow Hearts Covenant
6. Dragon ball Z: Budokai 2
7. Yakuza
8. Max Payne
9. Persona 3 FES
10. Project Zero II
- Honourable mentions (just to name a few):
Obscure, Killer 7, Dirge of Cerberus, Maken Shao - Demon Sword, Jak and Daxter trilogy, Sly series, Star Ocean Till the End of Time, Resident Evil Outbreak, God of War II, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, KH 1 & 2… the PS2’s back catalogue of games is full of 🔥 titles, and there’s so many brilliant classics to choose from.
My girl completed it too, seems like women have a thing for FFX lol.
FF 10, FF12, Dragon quest 8, Kingdom Hearts 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Spartan: Total Warrior, Soul Caliber 3, Ssx 3 and honourable mentions Ico, Onimusha 3 and Spider-man 2
Kinda wild that you hadn’t already made this one.
What a legendary console.
Between PS2 and XB360, those consoles...so many good ass games.
@@karnagefails333 Glory Days 😤
@@flyingplantwhale545 Halo and The Legend of Zelda alone makes the PS2 obsolete
Nothing better to get you in a good mood than seeing Johnny and listen to him talking about video games.
A friend who can recommend jrpgs you will never play cause they are boring
Now its like a tradition to me waking up in a sunday morning, my only rest day, like 11am argentinean time, make some coffee and breakfast and watching a new video of yours. Thanks!
You can NEVER talk about the PS2 too much, my favorite console still to this day.
PS2 is the most overrated console ever made. Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast were better than this pathetic joke of a console.
@@anotherguy12 imagine being so sad and bitter about the fact that some other people enjoyed a different console than you 20 years ago.
@@anotherguy12 yet, the ps2 still sold more than all the consoles you mentioned. I’m just stating facts.
@@beetlemondapowerful1542 Yeah it sold more just because it was a DVD player. Most people didn't care about the shitty games on it.
There is my list :
1) Jak and daxter
2) God of war
3) GTA Vice city
4) Tony hawk’s Underground
5) 007 : Nightfire
6) The lord of the rings : the return of the king
7) Bully
8) Burnout 3 : Takedown
9) Jurassic Park : operation genesis
10) Spider-Man 2
But overall, I love almost all the games of the console. They all have a certain vibe which makes them special. Thank you for the video and the nostalgia :)
Bully was sooo much fun. I bought the Scholarship Edition for the Xbox 360 and played it all the way through. Great game!!
Love the PS2 so much, my list is:
1. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix
2. Devil May Cry 3
3. Final Fantasy X
4. Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal
5. Jak 3
6. Sly 2
7. Metal Gear Solid 3
8. Dragon Quest VIII
9. God of War 2
10. Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3
All games that I still love playing to this day and there are still many I’ve never played.
Jak and daxter was a classic too
Great list 👌
Hell yeah, God of War 2 was fucking "next gen" for the same system. They could have pushed the PS2 even further than what we seen.
kingdom hearts 2 is so good. i’m doing my first critical mode file right now
I enjoyed Jak 1 the most, not sure why.
Shadow of the Colossus is a masterpiece, it's one of my favorite games.
I absolutely agree!
Yes
What about Ico
-GTA 3
-Final Fantasy 12
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Twisted Metal Black
-Kinetica
-War of the Monsters
-Soul Calibur 2
-Metal Gear Solid 2

Personal favourites (but not all of them as there are so many!) - Onimusha Warlords, Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Soul Reaver 2, THPS3, Tekken 5, Medal of Honor Frontline, Soul Calibur 2, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, Maximo, Quake 3 Arena, GTA3, Devil May Cry, Manhunt, Star Wars Battlefront, God of War and God of War 2.
I'd better leave it there as I could go on all day! So many fantastic memories.
I'm a big fan of Onimusha Franchise it's a masterpiece Onimusha 3 Demon Siege it's the best, IMO
Finally some love for the ps2. Awesome!
PS2 was garbage. Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast were better
Chrono is perfect already! 😁
1. Max Payne - The Punisher with a detective noir twist and bullet time powers
2. Kingdom Hearts - an apocalyptic adventure wrapped in charming childhood nostalgia
3. Spider-Man 2 - free form mechanics in a dizzying sandbox with euphoric physics
4. Vice City - car chases are never better than they are with 80's music
5. Resident Evil 4 - apparently wrong to play on PS2, but it's where I fell in love with it
6. Ratchet & Clank - a hilarious and slightly morbid satire of corporatism
7. The Sands of Time - a beautifully voice acted mystical tale of swashbuckling romance
8. Psychonauts - it's quirky and weird, but also hilarious and profound
9. Dark Cloud - my first PS2 game, ultra charming, with fun Zelda-clone mechanics
Thats a tough one. For me it was THPS 2. That was the one that solidified it for me.
2 and 4 are the pinnacle for me personally. But THUG is fun in short bursts. Definitely prefer the first to the second.
The last mission in Tony Hawk's Underground was way too hard for it's own good. It took me a couple of hours to complete it.
I went through the same, although I started with the original THPS (I'm probably older than you). THPS 3 is the pinnacle of the series, imo.
Some of my favourites are
MGS 2
True Crime NYC
GTA Vice City
Persona 4
The Getaway
FFX
Ace Combat 5
Kingdom Hearts 2
Rainbow Six 3
MGS 3
Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks
Mortal Kombat Deception
Midnight Club 3
Gran Turismo 4
To name a few, the PS2 had so many great games!
Kinda sad. But true.
Runners up would be Silent Hill 3, Disgaea 2, Haunting Ground, God of War 2, Devil May Cry 3, Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal and/or Deadlocked, Jak and Daxter, Final Fantasy XII, We
My top 10:
10. *Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis*
9. *Shadow of the Colossus*
8. *Odin Sphere*
7. *Soul Calibur III*
6. *Tales of the Abyss*
5. *Suikoden V*
4. *Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater*
3. *Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4*
2. *Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King*
1. *Okami*
Man, the PS2 had so many classics on it that limiting myself to just 10 is really harder than it sounds. Easily one of my favorite consoles.
This is a great list!
You get a "like" from me just for Odin Sphere and Tales of the Abyss, my friend! Excellent taste.
Soul Calibur 3 was a fun one. I really liked the Tales of the Sword campaign which was like having a full rpg included as a bonus in a fighting game.
My top 10 PS2 games are almost solely based on the nostalgia i had while playing the games (I also couldn't afford many games, haha, got my PS2 while the PS3 was out for two years).
Devil May Cry
Dot Hack IMOQ
GTA San Andreas
God of War
Phantasy Star Universe
Guitar Hero 2
Sly Cooper 3
Kingdom Hearts
Spider-Man 2
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
and then honorable mentions are the Teen Titans and Ghost Rider games. Teen Titans has co-op for the story mode which was so fun, and I'm just a fan of Ghost Rider's aesthetic, for a licensed game I think Ghost Rider is a bit underlooked at tbh.

Silent Hill 2 makes me emotional just thinking about it. The music is god-tier and the story feels deeply personal to me.
One of my favorites. Onimusha, Fatal Frame 3, Tenchu , resident evil 4, silent hill, God of war (for what I can remember right now)
The Final Fantasy X battle theme still remains my all-time favorite in the series. It’s so nostalgic every time I hear it.
So many great games I have memories of. Shadow of Rome, Downhill Domination, Extermination, SSX Tricky, the Dynasty Warriors series, Kingdom Hearts 1 + 2
Shadow of Rome is a an absolute sleeper hit.. Never hear people talk about it anymore. would love a remake or remaster of that
Man, PS2 was such a legendary era & personally my favourite out of them all!!!
Dragon Quest VIII is an all-time classic. It was obvious upon release. Just a fantastic game!
Completely agree about DQVIII, that was a game where I wish I could experience my first playthrough again and again, such a magical experience.
Love the PS2! And your list is pretty dope! Keep up the good content Johnny, always a good sunday morning when i see your videos pop up!

The console is far from being overrated or one of the worst consoles ever made because it had a great library of games and it was a very affordable system that came with the added bonus of playing DVD movies.

kings field 4, defjam ffny, gta vice city, need for speed most wanted, taito legends vol 1, namco museum

I enjoyed the SOCOM games a lot. Really impressive how well they made a military shooter for consoles and the voice command worked really well. I also played Rainbow Six 3 on Xbox with a headset and that barley worked. I once coughed and my teammates threw a grenade and killed me. :D
I also liked God of War 1+2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 a lot, by now they are available on other platforms as well but they were PS2 exclusives until the HD Collections were released.

The Budokai Tenchaichi series was something else! I was so thrilled when the Xenoverse titles were coming out, but disappointed when the combat system in those were so dumbed down from the BT games. What an incredible roster, and *the* most DBZ-feeling gameplay there has ever been.
I will say that you are the reason I ever played Dragon Quest VIII to begin with and I've never looked back. Cheers!
Dragon Quest 8 and Okami are definatly top games of all time. For ps2 I was also super into platformers.

Great list, and thanks for mentioning Vice City. Ray Liotta died recently and he was perfect as Tommy Vercetti.
I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, but Tekken Tag Tournament was probably the biggest PS2 mainstay at my house in the early 00's. (Especially the bowling mode.)
PS2 one of the best game libraries of any console along with the SNES!
I just played ffx this year (i know super late) and it has been one of the most recent gaming memories that have stuck with me for awhile. Stellar world building, music and characters
These are my top 10 PlayStation 2 games that were not on this list and I will also do something different where each game will be a different genre:
1. Rumble Racing (arcade racer)
2. Gran Turismo 3 (sim racer)
3. Ar tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica (JRPG)
4. NBA 2K2 (sports)
5. Jak and Daxter The Precursor Legacy (3D Platformer)
6. God of War II (Action Platformer)
7. Gradius V (Shmup)
8. Shadow of Destiny (Puzzle Adventure)
9. Odin Sphere (2D Sidescroller)
With so many great games it's hard to choose, mine would be

Disgaea
Xenosaga 3
Dragon Quest 8

MGS3 Snake Eater
Silent Hill 2
FFX is my favorite PS2 game by far.
When Johnny mentioned Barbie I was like "bro?? 😳"

Does anyone play anything other than jrpgs on PS2? I definitely love them too but...
It's can't be a list without dragon quest 8
@@shahriarmohammadsoukhin6467 DQ8 is fantastic, but these other titles made more of an impact on me personally. It'd be an easy #11, though!
Nice video. I really like ur channel and stuff that you are making. Some of my favorite games on ps2 are silent hill 2-4, shattered memorise, final fantasy X, metal gear solid snake eater, Shadow of the colossus. These are games that I have played and are my favorite. Thx for reading
Still the best video game console ever made in my opinion.
The joke at 1:16 went on a little long and I was genuinely looking at my screen with my mouth open and an eyebrow raised hahaha. Got me
the ps2 is one of my most nostalgic systems. my bigest collection of games is from the ps2 and still looking back i missed so many good games like dragon quest 8, that in the time i didnt knew about. still it was in that platform that i played some of my favourite games of all times like mgs2 and 3, persona 3 and 4, shadow of colossus and ff12.
Loved the PS2 days and still play some of them every now and again.
You never really knew exactly what you'd get and it made you wonder what the future would hold.
Xbox, GameCube and Dreamcast are superior consoles with better games. PS2 is overrated and mediocre
Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are two of my most favorite gaming experiences. Dark Could 1+2 deserve a shout out as well.
Agreed with number one. Absolutely a gem in any franchise and on any console for that matter. That game holds up so beautifully
I really loved the pacman world games. They were alot of fun. I also loved the dark cloud games.
My Top 10:
10. Okami
9. God of War
8. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
7. God of War II
6. Shadow of the Colossus
5. Silent Hill 2
4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
3. Resident Evil 4
2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
1. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Great list.
In no order

- Final Fantasy X
- Final Fantasy XII
- Metal Gear Solid 3
- Shadow Hearts 2
- Legend of Dragoon
- Legend of Legaia

What a beast of a system.
Mine are: Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry 3, God of War, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Dark Chronicle, Rogue Galaxy, Kingdom Hearts 2, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3, Black, Burnout 3
Was mad that he didn't have FF7 on his PS1 list, glad he put FFX on this one. I enjoyed this game from the beginning. I want to replay it now lol
Glad you added Tony Hawk to the list, I was surprised Tony Hawk 2 wasn't on the playstaion 1 list.
the shadow hearts series is my beloved franchise on the ps2. The idea of an horror rpg has not been explored. it was so fresh and different at the time. And I think there is still nothing like it.
Dragon Quest 8 is my favorite PS2 game, favorite Dragon Quest game and favorite game of all time. I know it sounds corny but this game changed my life.
Great list. I would include Valkyrie Profile 2 and SSX Tricky on my list. Probably NFL Blitz also.
I remember making several ps2 top lists. I have them saved since 2012 and still have many to go. My top 10 that I played are:
FFX, Warriors Orochi 2, Time Splitters 2, Burnout Revenge, Urban Reign, Marvel vs Capcom 2, God of War, We Love Katamari, Puzzle Quest, Soul Calibur 2.
Of the ones you listed I think I would also love most of the ones I didn't play yet.
