Is there any reason my sporty e6b is showing the wind correction angle like this one? I just bought it a couple months ago.

Test question has an input of -10°C. How do I input a negative number?
Edit: I figured it out. Just type in the number and then push the minus key. I thought it was part of the “conv” system. Hope this comment helps someone else.

I just bought one of these (spring 2023), Not sure if this is a "feature" or a defect but the display is nearly unreadable straight on, it only clears up at more than a 45degree angle and that much skew causes readability issues of its own both for the dispay and button markings in addition to making hand held use awkward. I understand having some veiwing angle bias for use on a desk, but 20degress would be the practical upper limit.

sounds like there's an issue with your screen. I'd send it back. Shouldn't be doing that.

Under the Pressure & Density Altitude function, I am getting different results using the formula than the E6B function in the example in this video. PALT= (29.92-29.83)*1000 + 843 = 933. The example has PALT=926. So, what am I doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. The E6B takes the humidity into the calculation. That will change the PALT and DALT. At least that's what I think the reason is.

@@rong4248 It has nothing to do with the humidity, you can tell by the fact that the e6b takes no input for humidity/dew point or anything that would tell it the current humidity. The difference is due to the *1000 calculation being a rough estimate that we use because it's easy to calculate and remember. The E6B likely uses the official, more accurate formula: station altitude + 145366.45*(1-(station pressure * 33.8639/1013.25)^0.190284)

Where is the back button? Like if I am doing WT/MOM and accidentally start entering a number in the CG field, how do I cancel that input without completely restarting the entire aircraft W&B from scratch? I'm not sure why that is so easy to start with, CG should only be an output in wt/mom mode, but the simplest bumped button can over write it and destroy a rather long string of inputs. Really not user friendly, and with the recent reduction in test time and slight increase in question count such a mistake can be very costly. So I hope I'm just overlooking something.

Airlines now give iPads for calculations so is it still needed?

This would be helpful in FAA written exams since they're allowed in testing centers. Other than that, it's just another tool to use at your disposal.

So sorry, have not used an E6B since the last century. I don't use a slide rule or adding machine either. All those features are done automatically by Foreflight and other computer programs and apps.

Yes they are, but unfortunately you can't take ForeFlight into your FAA written test. So the E6B lives on.

My tablet had an issue and needed to be rebooted in the middle of my last oral exam. I was able to immediately continue with manual calculations and several exam questions before the tablet and foreflight were back in action (including re-entering flight info). It wouldn't have been a good look to just sit there and wait "but I need muh foreflight to tell me"
