The Suspicious Downfall of Kendrick Lamar's Former Label...
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 тра 2024
- People have been calling out Kendrick Lamar's FORMER label, Top Dawg Entertainment, for YEARS. And now that Kendrick Lamar has left the label to start his own, along with TDE’s co-president, Dave Free, fans are getting suspicious. Could this have to do with the many times SZA tweeted about her frustration with the label executives? Why Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad took 5 years to drop a single? What the hell happened to Schoolboy Q?
But the most important question of all…
Why is Kendrick Lamar now being out rapped on his own songs by rappers like KODAK BLACK? Alright... i’m just kidding but we gotta admit this isn’t typical behavior for a man like Kendrick Lamar.
Without this guy, it’s debatable that many of the artists on TDE would not be as popular as they are today. In someway, shape or form, Kendrick Lamar has played a part in nearly everyone’s success on the label, simply because he’s the most famous one on the roster, doing features and tours with them.
And no big money maker like this just opts out of a label out of complete nowhere, we seen rappers like J. Cole be able to expand while still remaining on RocNation’s roster. So… what happened? With 99.9% of the members from the label being antisocial who rarely ever pop out on social media, its difficult to piece together whether or not the label is seemingly falling apart.
However, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Isaiah Rashad have all spoken about their thoughts on the label falling off. In this video, I show you guys all that they Kendrick, SZA, and Isaiah Rashad have said. And their responses will help decode whether the label execs are not managing their artists properly, or if the artists themselves are the problem.

I seriously don't get wtf happened over there. How does someone like ab-soul dedicate his entire life to hiphop to the point it is his actual career and main source of income, and only drops one single in 5 years??
As a fan, and as someone who makes music, it's truly mind boggling 🥴

Nothing will defeat TDE circa 2012/13 man that shit legendary.
*2012-2018* It's ever since the Championship Tour and Black Panther album that they started slowing down. 2015 had the best TDE album in TPAB. 2016's Blank Face LP by Q is legendary, prolly his best album. And the movie, soundtrack and Rock's album in 2018 kept things moving. But you can't really say much about the label after that. I think the Rona and 2020 hurt their progress honestly. TDE's makes their bankroll from concerts and I think projects were slated for that year along with tours that would follow. That year pushed everything back for the label including MM&BS which was supposed to be out in 2021.
2018 was such a good year for them too. The Championship Tour, Black Panther project, even the merch was some of the best in the hip-hop industry at the time. I remember constantly looking at their website, wanting all the hoodies and t-shirts. Kendrick was still very active at the time. Showed up to award shows, did magazine covers, all his songs playing everywhere. I remember everyone in school still singing Humble, DNA playing from cars and Loyalty playing in all the Foot Locker stores. SZA was also fresh off the Ctrl fame and success. A lot of girls in my school were listening to her. Good times
Tbh… GOOD music (early 2010’s) was more legendary during that era.
It's simple: TDE overplayed the scarcity card.
Naw they overplayed the Mystique card
@@rickeyjtv1802 Same thing.
@@rickeyjtv1802 Mystique is what keeps Kendrick in the news
@@vlog_umentary5827 Well, Kendrick knows how to do it. He knows how/when to reward the wait with something worthwhile. The years after GKMC, we got TPAB and UU, along with a series of iconic live performances that we still watch till this day (eg. Fallon). DAMN. followed relatively soon enough. The years after DAMN., we get a DOUBLE album and an immediate international tour.
When Kendrick is absent, he's absent. No games. No false promises (at least never directly from him - but, TDE).
And when Kendrick is present, he's effectively everywhere.
That's how you play the mystique/scarcity card.
Just maybe so. For those of you looking to discover more music get introduced to Holy G. And you just might be enlightened. Bless you all.

The fact that Kendricks last album on TDE featured no artists from TDE says a lot
Does it though?
@@vincefree it doesn’t lol
I think u reaching bro. There were no tde artists on any Kendrick album since gkmc besides zacari
Not really. If it doesn’t fit Kendrick vision he’s not gonna put them on
Yeah that doesn't say much. As someone said, he hasn't had featured artist from TDE since GKMC. But it's said they're always in the studio together whenever there's a project being worked on. That's especially the case with the main 4 members originally signed in the early 10's. Jay Rock, Q, Kendrick and Soul are a tight group. But just because you're label mates or best friends doesn't mean you have to be featured all the time.
The fact that TDE dropped a deluxe version of Ctrl is just more proof that the label/SZA are just getting cash off singles and not concerned w putting out a new record

I think they weren't motivating him/ as serious as he was anymore... I could be wrong but im for sure its a creative/ artistic reason he left
Edit: before the house is burning dropped zay was in an interview and mentioned top was a lil upset at him for being lazy so there is that to add to my theory about them not being motivated/motivating him anymore.
I'm not sure that line is even about TDE tbh
about the zay thing, dunno if this adds more to ur theory or whatevs but that was stated on the album Sun's Tirade way before House Is Burning. There's a whole skit dedicated to it where Top is calling him.. Was played for jokes but I'm sure there was some truth in it and there's a reason zay included it.
I feel like TDE had each members foe a certain number of albums, and top was milking the time period for as long as possible
So this after this whole video, it’s people being human and working through life like everyone else…

SZA did not get any Grammys for CTRL !
Get your facts right . She got Grammy with Doja for their song .
TDE has 11 active artists, for the past couple of years they have given two artists two different quarters of the year which gives the artists enough time to promote and tour their albums. Everyone has their time slot that's how TDE has been able to stay dominate as a label.
I wanna make sure I'm not trippin. The only years the releases lined up like that seem to be 2012 and 2015
“Dominate” lol
Ideally sure but thats not really how it went down. Dominate is also stretching it.
They're not being dominant and that's the problem. You can have all the talent in the world but not utilize your team effectively, and TDE has landed themselves in this situation. SZA has the ability to save that but unfortunately no one else is putting out material and punch is being lazy which in return will only make things worst for the group.
Iono if they’re dominant anymore bro 😞

Finally someone who gets it... media has warped so many
Listen to Reason song called windows cry. He discuss his frustration with TDE but still cool with the label.
TDE is the ultimate bag fumbler
TDE started to introduce too much red tape in getting an album to be a hit, which stresses the artist and delays new releases.
I love how many people in the comment section are defending the artists who release one album every 5 years. Y’all got some Stockholm Syndrome lol.
The standard used to be an album every 2 years, and the product was more complete than it is now. Longer songs, fewer interludes, fewer skits, fewer features, harder music to learn and perform, etc.
There’s no reason an absolute legend of an artist like Led Zeppelin or the Beatles were able to release an album *every year* for ten years straight yet new artists take 5 years to put out a shorter album that’s mostly features, samples, and 3 minute songs. Stop defending that lol smh.
True. But it's a different artist environment at TDE. A lot of the history's biggest artist all across all platforms had two things:
1) Ghost work
2) No internet
I think those two right there would make a huge difference.
Who standards is that to drop every 2 yrs a artist that cares about they craft and art will drop when they feel it's right I respect artist like that because they truly care for their art and fans its not many artist like that
When artists age and mature, the rate of albums usually slows... Q, for example, wants to experience his daughter growing up, instead of being on the road for months.
Never answered what happened to school boy q. Sounds like they had personal issues. Not sure the added benefit of being signed to two labels either. More bureaucracy… more money to split more hand in the pot, more opinions, I can see why she would be frustrated. Dude was dealing with a drug habit …. Nothing last forever. No real controversy
I love tde as a label I just wish they had more content dropped great label though

I’ll save you a video bro. It’s the artists. Top dawg is a visionary, a legend, an icon, a great man, all that’s undeniable. Dot jus got older (35) and it only makes business & creative since that he be more responsible for his vision. Keem & Mr.Morale are indicative of this. It’s all good. Remember Jay Rock was the act that launched TDE & Kendrick not the other way around. At the time (and still) non gangster rappers couldn’t come outta LA cuz our culture is 100% gangbangin; it took Jay rock from Bounty Huntas & Schoolboy from Hoover and Top Dog who I believe is a member from Compton inorder to launch a non affiliate like Kendrick. It all worked out for everyone, schoolboy’s that guy and a superstar artist as well. No need for any controversy here. Pglang the label now Dave Free and oklama.

What do people expect?! For your favorite artist to shower you with their work?! When that happens over saturation creates resentment. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. People will never be satisfied especially in a time and age where they live their life at the pace of the internet refresh button.
Well MF Said!! 👍🏽
Yo 5 years is a lot of time to wait for mid ass albums
Thats weird because theres plenty of artists including Drake who have always consistently dropped music and never had a problem with “over saturation” 🤷🏽 id argue that if you dont drop consistently you will become forgotten. Not everyone has fans like frank ocean or kendrick- fans are fickle, you need to stay fresh in ppls minds so that you can keep riding that wave. 5 years in between each project is extreme.

This video/analysis is a fail, to be honest. Anyone who understands the music biz knows that groups, artists, etc... make the bulk of their money touring which is what they did especially for a group like TDE.
Kendrick and Schoolboy Q had the most commercial success, but as a collective, their music was not going to reach commercial success - too grimey for radio. My favorite will always be Jay Rock regardless if he didn't launch like other members of the group.
Jack Rock got a Grammy. I think only him, Kdot and Sza the only TDE members with one, and maybe Q I’m not sure about him though.
@@HooodClassicsTV TDE started off underground so why is there even mentions of commercial singles or albums? That is the flaw of this video. Isaiah wasted his hype by not releasing for so long. Kendrick had a period where he was dropping music all the time and then he stopped around like 2012 to do the scarcity thing but rashad never developed a serious enough fan base to just fall off like he did for so long. His last album was alright but it just wasn't super great. I only really listen to it nowadays when it comes on during shuffle.
I’m still wondering why SZA dropped a deluxe instead of a new album. Like she’s so much better now compared to then

Q. Q's had the best albums of the label besides Kendrick's projects. Oxymoron and Blank Face LP are classics. Crash Talk wasn't as good but it was decent enough and that album really showcased his creative ability. He can carry the torch, pun intended. The guy is just always switching things up, changing his sound and he knows how to promote his album with great tours to follow up. I love Q. Meh. G-Unit ran the mid 2000’s but fell off after overexposure. The superstar stayed on deck but not the rest. Maybe the latter half of the 2010’s will be similar for TDE.
Like, maybe they had their run, it was a good run, but the game (of rap) is always looking for the new big thing (who knows) after the reliable commodity (Kendrick).
Fortunately unlike G Unit the original members have carved out their own unique sounds and fanbases separate from the big dog and I think they’ll always be able to do tours if not necessarily gigantic singles with Kanye etc (ie That Part)

My problem with TDE is that they think people are fans of the label and not individual artists. Like, I don't give a fuck about most of these dudes, I just want to listen 2-3 of them and as a fan I shouldn't have to wait for the whole roster to drop a project to listen to my artist. That opening statement is something I said on another UA-cam comment section like two months ago and I got lambasted for it. I made a statement like Kendrick Lamar is the main artist on TDE and he was the one that really brought them to the promised land, I didn’t say something like “Kendrick Lamar is the only good person on the label and anyone else sucks” basically just said he was the Michael Jordan of that label. And he really was he was the one that got people to start really looking at TDE. Before Kendrick Lamar did you have people all over the world listening to artist on TDE? No. Yes there’s other great artist on the label but Kendricks the one that got the limelight focused on the label in the first place.
Kendrick on his grown man shit he have children now. Let the man grow and run his own shit……
🎯 I always said TDE is not good at Pushing their Artist. I'm in Ohio and aware of TDE but I have to go search for their artist. I quit searching awhile ago
Dude he fulfilled his contract.
The truth is simple.
Kendrick is seen as the savior of hip hop leader of the new school and the voice of the west etc
Who do you think helped to promote and market that understanding that became synonymous with him??
The label. That wasn’t always the case though. Initially it was black hippy as a collective and of course kemdrick was a shining star out the collective but he wasn’t necessarily the LEADER persay until gkmc dropped and the label started to double down on the notion that HE was the focal point of the entire label thus crippling the entire roster.
Top dawg and punch and interscope made it so no one else on the label could coexist with him without being a Gladys knight and the pips situation.
Plus if you add on the fact that they all work on their own time as artist, as the audience we are designed to look at them in comparison to Kendrick’s trajectory and not their own pace so if you put this all together the entire roster had to be sacrificed in order for Kendrick to become the artist that he’s seen as today.
I find Kendrick highly ooverrated. I personally feel as if Westside Boogie is the new face of the West. His lyrics just hit home with me more probably because he's more introspective
