Sony wasn’t a nobody before PlayStation. They were a premium consumer electronics brand. Executives didn’t want to make the PlayStation, because they were worried making a “toy” would damage their prestigious reputation. They were known for having the highest quality electronics. Some lower level engineers started working on it behind their back, and eventually they showed them and convinced them.
That's a cool story. Their philosophy for being a premium enthusiast focused brand can still be seen in their smartphones. And props to them for sticking to those values and core mission. Not to mention they have some of the best cameras in the industry, the best headphones with the best noise cancellation in the industry, televisions etc. And on top of that they have made the best console while still maintaining their premium status. Quite impressive if u think about it
Didn't playstation was made because the fall out between Sony and Nintendo?? They had a deal to make the console together but Nintendo left the project and Sony continue anyways and history were made
If the statement were made in context of a business history overview of Sony I'd understand. Clearly he is referring to the video games/console space as this video is about PlayStation in specific.

fun fact: the USAF operated something called the condor cluster, it consisted of 1760 PS3's. the reasoning? other supercomputers of similar power were roughly 10-20 times more expensive than just buying a bunch of playstations. at the time the Condor Cluster was the DOD's most powerful computer

ps1 had 2 different controllers with analog sticks actually. the non dualshock and then the first dualshock controller. difference was dualshock has rumble.

I loved my shitty pixel graphics, the games were pretty good and had clear gameplay with solid goals or a good storyline to follow. Oh and the games weren't released with massive bugs.

Idk why people are trying to correct this fact. The USAF did make a super computer out of PS3s and it was called the Condor Cluster. They used PS3s because comparable tech would've cost $10k per unit at the time. Apparently nothing else existed like Sony's hardware at that time, at least at that scale.

You just reminded me of this plug in device that I had for my PlayStation. Plugged in to back and it played v cds and me and friends used to watch movies on it. I think it also had cheats on it and could possibly play pirate games. Can’t remember what it was called tho.

It’s worth noting that the DualShock 4 wasn’t Sony’s first controller with motion sensor. That title goes to the Sixaxis included with the PS3 in 2006, which a year later evolved to the DualShock 3 Sixaxis

@@Shinn4703 from launch, yes. I was late to the Playstation party because we didn't get those things simultaneously back in the day and I got a SCPH-9001, which was already bundled with a Dual Shock controller. That one controller is functional to this day, which is insane to me.

The PlayStation 3 started my childhood with Lego star wars Minecraft and Minecraft story mode and I still have it and platinumed Minecraft story mode recently for the nostalgia

Keep in mind the original PlayStation also came with a dual shock controller with two analog sticks. However, that didn’t happen until 1998.
Also, PlayStation 2 controller not only has analog sticks. But analog buttons. Meaning if you played games like Gran Turismo three, the harder you push X, the faster your car would accelerate. Or you could even slowly let go of square when aiming your gun in Metal gear solid 2, and snake would lower it. Or if you release the square button quickly, he will release a shot from the gun. I wish they would bring this back in current PlayStation controllers.
The ps1 controller also came with analogue sticks. The released the Dual Analogue controller in April 97 and then followed by the Dualshock later the same year in November

Those big box tv's used CRT's (Cathode Ray Tube) quite literally a tube that shot electrons at the screen to light it up, hence why sometimes when you touch those screens youll get a static shock. Since these ran on high frequency they make that "EEEEE" noise

One tiny little detail the PS1 did get dual analog stick controllers before the ps2 was released though years after the system was released. Though it is still true that the PS2 was the first to come with dual analog stick controllers at launch.

yup, the ps1 never had games that looked as good as something like mario 64,goldeneye or the banjo games but the lack of the disc drive really hurt the n64
N64 released 2 years later. So the PS1 was most powerful when it released

The analog sticks were already available back in PS 1 era. It wasn't introduced in PS2
I remember 10 years ago when a new game came out thinking "Wow the graphics look so real, one day they'll be photorealistic" I'd say we've reached that point now. Crazy to think where game graphics will be in another 10 years.
PlayStation 3 still is a huge quality breaker, not only back then. However, it gets dusty inside easily so I need to clean that up.

So even with old hardware, its much easier to costumise with newer hardware and this problem is done. I don't really see what's the point of proving that a PS3 is not better that a pc .... Fun fact: the ps1 was never meant to do 3d graphics, because it supports very little of the nessecary features for 3d such as proper texture mapping and anti aliasing. Look it up
the ps1 was a middle of the road graphics wise console at the time. The saturn did 2d games a lot better then the ps1 and the n64 did 3d games a lot better then the ps1.
