I have never heard this. I can tell it has a higher pitch. Still love the song. God how I miss them. Thank you so much Mr. S, You seem to help us all deal with the absence.
Agreed, the vocals are really high, certainly higher, I think, than they sound on any of the recorded material from the same era. This is a real revelation and given their exacting quality control standards, there is probably a wealth of unreleased tunes equally as beautiful as this. Thank you so much for posting, especially given the minimal amount of official stuff we've had the joy of hearing, over the last quarter century-plus!!
Pitch shifted or not (and it clearly has been), the official release of this is not a patch on this demo for the melody choices Paul makes alone - those high notes have so much more emotion imo. Love this, thank you for sharing.
Hi, because this song is amazing, and this upload features everything pitched up, I was compelled to upload a version at the original pitch. The title is 'The Blue Nile - St Katherine's Day (Original Unpitched Demo Version)'
It's easy to see why, stylistically, this did not fit on 'Rooftops' but that doesn't stop it being one of their best songs. It is so moving, so evocative. It needs finishing and releasing. Soon.
Another classic from the Blue Nile, back catalogue of musical masterpieces ❤ that everyone should hear

I read about this song in the band autobiography, 'Nileism'. What a gem to uncover, I can't stop playing it. Thanks for posting!

Pitch has been altered upward.
Why ruin this great demo?
Oh! Gawd I Hope So!. Please Santa Claus make it happen! :O))))
why must people alter pitch? I'd rather it get removed.
