This is one of the episodes of Community that actually goes into what it’s like having ASD without resorting to perpetuating false stereotypes like basically every other show. This show took representing ASD so seriously (since Abed is based on one of Dan Harmon’s friends) that Dan Harmon got himself tested after his research. The show gets praise from experts on ASD because of how well it does it.
@@dangshnizzle6929 Jeff wants to be an asshole, but he's a good person at heart. That's why he always ends helping everyone... that got established in the first episode when he talks with Pierce.
I saw this and wanted to shed some light on the buttered noodles. Abed is a character considered to be on the autism spectrum. Many people on the spectrum prefer bland foods. It can actually lead to gastrointestinal issues from having a bad diet. Also, Abed's father had a falafel business, not a kebab business. I enjoy both, depending on what's in it.
@@nejoudtourki6000 Aspergers is no longer the official name of the diagnosis. Under the newer DSM, or diagnostic and statistical manual for mental disorders, it would fall under ASD, or autism spectrum disorder. Though I believe at the time of the show's creation, that change didn't exist yet. Also, I'm not entirely certain whether that change affects any diagnoses outside of the U.S., but for all intents and purposes he would be on the autism spectrum. What part of the spectrum he's on would entirely depend on the diagnosis of a professional much more experienced than you or I on the subject matter.
As someone who have asperger, i do have weird eating habit like if i eat spageti( sorry i dont know how to spell it)i only add an actual tomato sos in bottle instend home made or can tomato sos and no meatball....
I thought it was revealed in the actual episode (that The Normies cut out) that Annie was wanting buttered noodles and that it was a joke about Abed predicting stuff.
12:34 Alison Brie just went full on Diane Nguyen from Bojack Horseman. This is legitimately Diane's mentality and why she is always miserable no matter how hard she tries to be happy. And 14:12 reflects Diane in season 5, where she tried to fit in and find her purpose by traveling to Vietnam, eventually realizing that no one actually fits anywhere. The cherry on top being that Alison Brie voices Diane.
Thats not a Dalek, Rana, its a Blorgon......wait a minute....what kind of creature would try to convince humans she didnt even know what a BLORGON WAS?! ....(gasp) BLORGONNN!!!! (throws balled-up paper at Rana)
I’ve gone back and watch so many show reactions of the Normies. It’s fun to see the different stages of their set up and life. I know certain parts of it from other reaction series. I see I’ve reached the point to where Rana’s jaw was wired shut again.
Rana and hitting the concrete, poor thing, but your socks are awesome sauce. That had to be painful, hope it healed with no lingering effects .As for the episode and the buttered noodles, people with Aspergers, we tend to eat the same thing over and over. . It usually is also sort of bland. Also consistency and routine is a VERY BIG deal to us, any interruption leads to a similar reaction to what Abed does. This episode is my favorite, as it reminds me of my teens and 20s when diagnosis was rare. I wish I had a friend like Annie back then, it was a horrible, traumatic experience
One of the best episodes! My only regret is that they kept awkwardly pushing Jeff/Annie after this when this when the perfect closure for that subplot ... But otherwise great! I love the Abed/Annie dynamic!
They could have but they didn't and that in fact made it much more real and complex. Here Annie realizes that at this stage it isn't love but infatuation and we see her almost stop pursuing Jeff or ogling on him like a schoolgirl after this episode. Jeff on the other hand knows that there's something deep down in him that cares for Annie more than just a friend, even though he keeps denying that part of his inner voice (which he realizes in S5 finale). I think that this episode in fact pushed both Annie and Jeff to dare to feel something real for each other instead of settling half heartedly for partially shallow feelings (Annie with her schoolgirl crush/ogling and Jeff with his denials towards Annie)
That's one more reason why I love this episode. It basically tells us what I've been saying... Jeff/Annie is a bad pairing at it's core, and not just because of the creepy "you reminded me of my dad" and head pats stuff. Like they are such different people.
It been on Netflix for awhile now I guess they decided not to react to it matter of fact it was on their when they first started reacting to Peaky Blinders

Interesting episode. More meta than as funny as it could be, like many episodes in this season, but interesting, characters-wise (except when it goes too far : Chang's "I find you guilty of being Abed" is pretty lame). And the blorgons are awesome. Now, question : do you people hear everything the actors say, when you talk over their dialogues like that ? Or do you just not mind not getting 100% of it ? I usually like your reaction videos, but you were on fire in this one. You take time to talk about the episode once it's finished : why talk so much while you watch it ? Aren't the dialogues the best thing about that show (in addition to the casting, obviously) ?
Why was the “guilty of being Abed” line lame? It shows that Abed thinks that people in his life when they find out who he really is will push him away and shove him in his metaphorical locker.
This episode, along with crumbs scattered through out the series, just confirms why I can't help but ship Annie and Abed (at the least on a conceptual level). Annie values Abed and tries to understand him by going into his world, and Abed values Annie and listens to her and seems to have a soft spot for her. They seem quite different at a glance, especially since she's a romantic and he's a stoic... but they relate to each other through wanting to control things different ways. Abed wants to control scenarios to make them fit his movie logic, but doesn't always account for people's emotions. Annie thinks about other people too much and worries about how she can make people play a role in her life script, but she doesn't always get a grasp on her emotions. They provide a good balence between structure and chaos, reality and fantasy, empathy and practicality. I think they have such a great friendship, and if Annie would get past her bad choices in men and Abed could take an emotional risk to change things... if they could just realize it... it's right there. I know I'm probably a little delusional, but I know I'm not the only one that sees it. Plus they do have REALLY good chemistry, and NOT just when Aben is acting as Don Draper and Han Solo. At the very LEAST I would take Abedison over Jeff/Annie any day. Besides their creepy predatorial older man/younger naive schoolgirl weirdness that sometimes borders into a REALLY creepy parent/child relationship, Annie really is just fixated on fixing Jeff. Most of the time she's just disgusted by him and calling him out and trying to be his conscience. I'm not here for that, unless it's a two way street.
are the normies a bit homophobic? the dean has so many good lines they don't laugh at, they just kind of look at him with disgust. i've noticed it a few times before but have never called them on it. it's just getting too obvious now. i hope i'm misinterpreting and they just don't like the character.
Seriously, please take Rana out of this reactions, I was hoping she'd be quieter since her accident but its still the same dumb comments from her. Why does she always hate on Jeff, like she has missed all the signs this season (and previous ones) that prove how much Jeff cares about Annie and because of her it goes over everybody else's heads, its like nothing the character does is good enough for her. I know its just a show but there has to be a limit to someone's dumbness, if you're going to miss the entire plot of the series then don't react to it, leave only the original 4.

18:55 He didn't analyse Jeff quite right. As Annie says, "You are not Jeff, because Jeff cares about Abed."
Annie's giving jeff too much credit because she has a crush and abed is giving jeff too little.
