Overclocking is always needed, even if you can only get an extra 100MHz, it is free performance, and because of that, you must do it. It is vital that after you build a system, you overclock the CPU, RAM, GPU, and VRAM. Just be sure to monitor temperatures, and make sure the VRM's on your motherboard are able to handle the wattage needed to support that overclock.
I overclocked my computer and it started to overheat, so I tossed some water on it to cool it down. Water-cooling, you know? Well, I guess water-cooling isn't that effective. Or maybe I didn't use enough. Any pointers?
Custom water cooling is the magic word... ain't hard and i have my 3820 stable at 4.8ghz (1.43V) otherwise go with a all in one if you aren't that DIY but otherwise.. custom (i have 2x 240mm rads with fans at 5V and i haven't got over 65C yet)
Absolutely! I would suggest stepping back from the machine and using a bucket filled with liquid nitrogen and dump that right on it. It'll cool down real fast. No need for gloves or protective gear your warm friendly outlook will stop you from freezing solid.
my system runs at 5 gig hertz. It is a liquid system and will run for 2 seconds then drop down to 4 gig hertz while scanning my system for viruses. and will finish full scan in 5 minutes or less. It is fun to watch :)
I overclocked my i5-4670k from 3.4 to 4.5 and its still very stable
same here!
then you actually oc it from 3.9 to 4.5 on single core, try oc with scaling cores, that works best, that is what turbo boost is.
Per Thehappygeek Corsair H100i
I have a devils canyon 4690k overclocked to 4.5ghz under a thermal take heat sink. The new thermal material in the cpu makes a big difference;)
Save time, watch in 1.25 times speed.

Overclocking is overestimated and underclocking is underestimated
That's a pretty sick OC! Just curious, what cooler are you using for that build and what are your temps?
It's a Corsair AIO water cooler something in their h series, if you want one is recommend getting a h100i

If recommend putting petrol on your parts, it tells you when you parts get hot
Try throwing cold water. Should work. Yeah, it's gonna work. 100% sure.
