Bro re that catalytic converter.. (I live in Jamaica) and what I did with my friend's R3 was to take it to a muffler specialist.. All they did was to cut off the converter and weld on a straight pipe with the muffler... Super cheap... (I got a video over on my channel about it)
I own a kawasaki vulcan s and I don't like the headlight looks I like round one's I like sv650 headlight I'm from 70's to haha. This bke is in my bucket.
My gripes: 1. Mirrors don’t fold easily in for tight parking of filtering. 2. Header pipe goes right under the oil filter. 3. Hard to find neutral compared to my previous bike 4. I only get 130 miles before empty...but that’s probably my fault for being 250lbs and throttle heavy
I just purchased a 2020 SV650. I replaced the stock headlight with a Motodemic LED headlight. I also installed a set of Denali Electronics DRL lights on the front fender to make the bike more visible.
I have done 50,000 km on my 2017 SV and the things i don't like are the jerky throttle response at slow speed, the engine braking in the lower gears can be brutal, and the suspension is bad over pot holes. But all that doesn't really matter, because the v twin engine is beautiful and torquey and full of character. Love it!
Ya suspension would be better if it were adjustable like on the sv650x. And I do find that it’s a bit jerky at low speeds but I would think that’s because it’s got a lot of torque
Haha ya someone pointed it out to me a while back haha I have since adjusted it but still not exactly where I want it. Might get new rear sets eventually
For your third point, you can change the length of the linkage to change the angle of the shifter. And why do you dislike the cat converter? It's good for the environment. Why do you want flames and pops? If you get these it basically means that your engine is not running good. Unless you're going to the racetrack and convert the bike for race-use only, the cat-converter is a great thing.
Yup I already adjusted the shifter 2 years ago lol. I don’t like the cat because it stops me from putting on a straight pipe and having the bike breathe freely once I do air box mod. And now I have to deal with o2 sensors and crap. Flames and pops don’t mean you’re engine is running poorly, you can still get all of that on a stock tune just need to open the exhaust and get rid of restrictions
@@SmokinMonkeyOG It means your engine is running rich/fat and you don't have an ideal air/fuel mixture. An engine that is running slightly lean produces more power AFAIK. Why do you want to get rid of restrictions and let the 'bike breathe freely' on a streetbike anyway. You're not out there chasing seconds. Once you get on a straight-pipe and an aftermarket exhaust your bike is loud as hell and you're just out there annoying people. Add an aftermarket air-filter that lets in more air, and you'll have to get a 3rd party ECU or reflash on the stock ECU anyway or else you'll have less power than with what's on there originally.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Fair enough, I used to like that stuff too. Now I just prefer a clean and optimally running engine. If that means loud then so be it, but only on a racebike. For the street I just want to enjoy the ride, and that means quiet. I'd start with suspension and brake mods before the engine.
One thing you're not wrong about, yes you are knitpickin (1) don't rub your screen gloves on (2) how often do you ride in total darkness. Round headlight is in keeping with the bike (3) gear lever is fully adjustable (4) mirrors you didn't like, but the way you fitted the bar ends, it's made the bike about 8-9 inches wider, no good for filtering
FYI the shift lever is fully adjustable, it’s one of the things you always need to set up, like angle of the handlebar, pitch of the brake and clutch lever, and the mirrors. So get cracking man!

Last just get the one that makes you more happy to have that way you’re gonna enjoy your bike that much more and want to go out and ride it more. Hope this helps man, good luck on the bike purchase!
I have an SV650.. the seat does hurt after about the 3 hour mark. I plan on taking a trip from Edmonton to Vancouver this summer and I'll def need to be getting an airhawk or something. Other than that, I think I'll need a windscreen as well. Bike is great though! 100% recommend as a new rider, this will be my second season with it and riding in general.
Ya I hear that I get the same thing but I usually just get off for a short break and I’m good to go for another run. Good luck on your trip! Hope all goes well, ride safe!
Watched this vid and the 5 things you love about it, I was looking at an MT 07, but I'm loving this V Twin more and more. I don't really know for how long you've had this bike now, but is there a rust problem with the SV ? Because I know on the MT 07, some people get quite a bit rust after owning them not for too long. Thanks !
To be honest I’ve had it for 2 years and have not found any rust anywhere yet. None on the exhaust or exhaust clamps or frame. The rotors and forks and wheels are also still good. I don’t ride in the rain very often though so I’m sure that helps. Good luck on getting your next bike man! Ride safe out there

@@RyaNewGame what bike do you have atm? I originally did my a2 on a lowered and restricted z650 but found that the handlebar vibrations were too much for my hands
Loving my SV650 so far! How did you angle your mirrors? I've got mine installed but I can't really see with them unless I bend down and tilt my head slightly in the direction of it. It looks like your left mirror specifically is bent back some.
Ya they are mounted on top of the bars rather than hanging. And I had to sit on the bike with the tools in hand and keep playing with the mirrors till they were good and had to tighten and loosen them like 10 times lol. They’re convex so they’re not mounted bent back or forward too far might seem that way in the video though
Dig your vlogs!!!! Subscribed! I have a 17' non ABS that I bought new. I have right at 15,000 miles on it and the bike has just been stellar. I have upgraded the front and rear suspension added a tail tidy and upgraded the tires to the Dunlop Q3+ and a Dekelvic SS70 can . The bike is a riot to ride. Like you stated the front headlight might be dated but I'm an old guy and It looks good. JW Speaker makes a very nice LED conversion kit. If I had to nit pick I would say the rear swing arms, while functional, look like lawn furniture legs. LOL! As for the shift lever try adjusting it down a little to see if that helps with your upshifts. My lever is set in such a way I have very little foot moment to make a upshift or downshifts.. Ride safe!
Thanks man! And that’s hilarious! It does look like lawn furniture! I’ll try adjusting it. Is it possible to adjust it stock? Or do I need to buy something
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Just loosen the two jamb nuts on the shifter rod and turn the rod either clockwise or counter clockwise. You will see the shift peg move up or down.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG oh! Lol.... Well in all the bikes I've owned they were adjustable, good chance it is. Time to break out the owners manual if it isn't readily apparent I guess!
Identical firing interval between the two. Only difference is the way the engine feels. 90° Vtwins that share the same crankpin on the crankshaft have a lumpy idle, have a lumpy low RPM feel about them. The parallel 270° twin are much less lumpy and more smooth at idle and low RPM. They have to run a counterbalance shaft to remain smooth.
For your instrument display cover put a little toothpaste on a wet rag and work it around in random and circular motion. Works just like plastic polishing cream. Then put a tempered glass cover on it.
I respect all riders who ride with decency but this bike just hurt for a beginner. I love my new z400. I feel safer and secure on the lighter bikes. I weigh nothing and am average height. The z400 felt comfy and controllable. My real start was in a drz400. V twin engines aren't wheelie friendly as much as a parallel. Not that I wheelie much. It's good for tall riders but not in the beginning. I really hated the light on the front. After trying a 500 cc harley street bike I was sold on smaller Kawasaki. But I respect anybody's preference as I'm a mere beginner❤😊🎉
I have a sv 650 2017 too, the seat is the worst thing that the motorcycle has, worse than any motorcycle that can be tested, 1.5cm thick foam, at 100km you no longer know how to sit, I had several motorcycles and this is in comfort the worst, the rest is an excellent motorcycle, cheers from Argentina
Thanks man! Welcome to the channel, I have a video comparing the two bikes on here if you look at my recent videos. Hope it helps you decide and good luck on getting your bike!
Must be a Canada thing.... lol lots of people move here and they’ve never driven a car in their old country so we have lots of people who look like they should know how to drive but in actuality they’re as bad as a 16 year old that’s just learning to drive
Beautiful looking bike, but I think I like the look of the MT-07 a little bit better. But is the look worth $1-2k more for the bike worth it too me?!?!? UGH the struggle.....
Thanks man! I would suggest to get the bike you like more that way you will enjoy the bike that much more and want to use it more often. Or save the 2k and get a sweet exhaust and some other mods and gear
That headlight isn't bad...just look at bikes from the eighties that incorporated the "then modern" rectangular automobile headlight...damn, now that is hideous.
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Not to mention I have a 1997 Bandit 1200S with a face that only a mother could love...hehehe. She makes up for it with a sexy tail tho :)
Funny. Lots of people whining about the angular headlights on the Street Triple. Come over to the SV650 review, people complaining about the round bucket light. WHAT DO PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT?!! hahaha Mount a couple of laser pointers on the front.
The catalytic thing... A thing only a murican could complain about. You cant get out of that, bikes is Japanese and has to fit the Euro market. So, no, you don't get new bikes over a certain cc without a catalytic.
Pretty sure ALL new bikes for the street come with a cat. It's the law here in America. Technically taking off the cat makes the bike no longer street legal in the US if it came with one from the factory
So, please God it never happens, but if you ever come off and leave most of the skin on your arms on the road, be sure to post up pictures of your injuries so other kids learn what a bad idea it is to ride without proper protection. Good luck
You really need to work on your titles so your videos will become more relevant and pop in people's recommended videos. For example on this video you should title it "5 Things I Hate About My Bike"
I dont know why, but im just not a fan of big, single, round headlights. Dual lights like triump, or even a slightly "angular" shaped like the sfv650 gladius, yes. But single and circular, just not my cup of tea. Secondly, buy a decent bike jacket!! Dont use "oh but i get too hot" as an excuse, there are plenty of well ventilated jackets about. Dont use the "yeah but i think i look cool, bro" one either. How are you going to look with skin grafts up your arms and chunks of flesh missing, or serious bone damage to your elbow, making it look like you have a genetic deformity??
First, the round light grew on me. I felt the same way before. Second I do have a summer jacket and when it’s 40 degrees with 80% humidity you come talk to me about wearing the jacket and we’ll see if you can stand to wear it for more than 5 min without passing out from heat stroke..... I know the risks I take and what the consequences are but thanks for the lesson. I chose to ride how I ride because I’m me and not you so I appreciate the advice but I know exactly what I’m doing and tired of explaining myself to ever person who decides that they know more than me. But one last time I guess.... I would rather ride with no gear and ride like a grandma to get to my destination and make a video for people like you. I don’t go far or fast and I don’t do anything risky or even go over speed limit. I know these things have no play in what others do on the road and I can still be in just as bad of an accident but I’m confident in my skills as a rider and as being observant enough to dodge idiots on the road. Either way it’s my decision. Ride safe!
It's the most uncomfortable Japanese bike I've ever owned. Ergonomics suck. Useless mirrors. Low and narrow bars. And a seating position that leaves no room to change position. Nuts to the tank. That's it. Bike sucks really.

I have a 2022 sv650 too, I plan on taking a trip from Vancouver to banff this summer
Ride safe out there
@@SmokinMonkeyOG cheers big fella, I really want to buy an SV 650 next year hopefully, (A2, still need to get that A license) and save some money. Good luck with your channel because you defo deserve more views and subs, and ride safe !
@@RyaNewGame I got my a2 licence last week. Going to buy an sv650 in February. Going to have to restrict it😉😉
@@murtazasheikh1513 Nice ! I've got my A2 since 2018, planning to upgrade anytime soon and most likely go for a 2018 SV650, this time next year maybe
Oh yeah any bike after 2010 I think has to have a cat. I got a full exhaust system from Poland (no cat) £290-00 called a dominater
Got a 2019 one
Dont feel like the shifter is too high but I'm pretty small (only 5'7) so maybe the shifter is better for small riders
Ya I find my legs are a bit long so it might be why I have that feeling when I shift
I have a vstrom 650 mine feels the same im going to try to adjust it I imagine yours would be the same.
Ya let me know if you get it to work better for you I might try adjusting mine as well
Think you can fix your screen with plastex.
Hmm I’ll look it up
can you throw on a centerstand i wonder..
I’m curious myself now actually lol
The shifter isn't adjustable? Good to know
It is actually it’s my fault I honestly didn’t know that this was a thing I could adjust lol
@@SmokinMonkeyOG oh! Lol.... Well in all the bikes I've owned they were adjustable, good chance it is. Time to break out the owners manual if it isn't readily apparent I guess!
It is I actually have adjusted it and it’s great now!
How do you think it sounds against the fz 07?
They both sound good but I think the FZ sounds a bit better but it’s all personal opinion
I'll try that out thanks for the tip
I really thought u would have more subs bc ur quality is amazing
Haha thanks I’m working on getting more traffic through the channel
I have a sv 650 2017 too, the seat is the worst thing that the motorcycle has, worse than any motorcycle that can be tested, 1.5cm thick foam, at 100km you no longer know how to sit, I had several motorcycles and this is in comfort the worst, the rest is an excellent motorcycle, cheers from Argentina
1000th subscriber 👍
Thank you!!!
@@SmokinMonkeyOG yep great video! New rider looking at getting a SV650 or mt 07. Still undecided :/
Thanks man! Welcome to the channel, I have a video comparing the two bikes on here if you look at my recent videos. Hope it helps you decide and good luck on getting your bike!
Love the channel your so underrated
Thanks! Really appreciate the support!
You think the drivers are bad there, you should try Vancouver and even worse... Richmond, BC.
Must be a Canada thing.... lol lots of people move here and they’ve never driven a car in their old country so we have lots of people who look like they should know how to drive but in actuality they’re as bad as a 16 year old that’s just learning to drive
dudeeee i have a 06 sv650s and the mirror problem happens to me😂
Manuel Garcia lmao that shit was so annoying until I got bar ends lol
just adjust the shifter... it takes about 60 seconds
Already did over a year ago lol
Beautiful looking bike, but I think I like the look of the MT-07 a little bit better. But is the look worth $1-2k more for the bike worth it too me?!?!? UGH the struggle.....
Thanks man! I would suggest to get the bike you like more that way you will enjoy the bike that much more and want to use it more often. Or save the 2k and get a sweet exhaust and some other mods and gear
What city are you in?
Mississauga
Wish that we could add pics to comments
Would be nice lol
I'm with ya on the mirrors
That headlight isn't bad...just look at bikes from the eighties that incorporated the "then modern" rectangular automobile headlight...damn, now that is hideous.
Lol I agree
@@SmokinMonkeyOG Not to mention I have a 1997 Bandit 1200S with a face that only a mother could love...hehehe. She makes up for it with a sexy tail tho :)
I like the new intro it's cool. Nice vid.
Thanks man!
Bruh that headlight is timeless wether it be on a 2020 or 1950's model bike it looks great
Totally disagree
Funny. Lots of people whining about the angular headlights on the Street Triple. Come over to the SV650 review, people complaining about the round bucket light.
WHAT DO PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT?!! hahaha
Mount a couple of laser pointers on the front.
Haha you can’t win. I do like the round light now it’s grown on me over time
Is yours ABS??
Yes
As I'm watching a loud miata just did the biggest burnout
Haha sick! JDM life!
I would not buy this bike if the headlight is not round
It grew on me I actually like the round headlight a lot more then when I bought the bike. Keeps the retro look
So you need to adjust the shifter that's it)) it take 5 min, look I to it. No need to suffer)
Definitely will!
The catalytic thing... A thing only a murican could complain about. You cant get out of that, bikes is Japanese and has to fit the Euro market. So, no, you don't get new bikes over a certain cc without a catalytic.
Ya I’ve noticed that everyone has them these days regardless of brand. And $500 for a decat pipe is stupid
Pretty sure ALL new bikes for the street come with a cat. It's the law here in America. Technically taking off the cat makes the bike no longer street legal in the US if it came with one from the factory
Ya that’s the same here but fuk it just don’t get caught lol
So, please God it never happens, but if you ever come off and leave most of the skin on your arms on the road, be sure to post up pictures of your injuries so other kids learn what a bad idea it is to ride without proper protection. Good luck
Watch some more of my videos before you talk shit buddy... lmao 😂
You really need to work on your titles so your videos will become more relevant and pop in people's recommended videos. For example on this video you should title it "5 Things I Hate About My Bike"
I’ve tried titles that are more broad like that and believe me it does the opposite of what you think
Ride safe!
Why are you wearing car driving gloves? lol
They’re motorcycle gloves just really cheap ones I use on hot days lol
im surprised people even ride these things.. shoulda bought a yamaha FZ6N
I’m surprised people ride those with so many better options like the Suzuki SV650
It's the most uncomfortable Japanese bike I've ever owned. Ergonomics suck. Useless mirrors. Low and narrow bars. And a seating position that leaves no room to change position. Nuts to the tank. That's it. Bike sucks really.
Lmao fist time I’ve heard someone with that opinion. Tons of my friends that ride Kawasaki’s and Honda’s that try my bike day how much more comfortable, ergonomic and more enjoyable of a riding position it has. But hey I guess you’re just built different man
