I picked up one of those from Varusteleka a while back, and it's been great for cooler, rainy days. I put it over various fleece (or not) and stay perfectly dry.
Had one of these for about 5 years now, think it was a 1995 issue from what I can work out. Still pretty waterproof, beads up well in lightish rain, but wets out across shoulders in a deluge. Sizing can be hit and miss. Mines a 42" chest and is pretty large I'd say, though I don't wear a bunch of base layers underneath, so that's probably why. Prices have stayed pretty much the same over the years. Think I paid £45 for mine grade 1. Great jacket, V thick/heavy Gore-tex, but way too warm for British summer time (even this year). I mean it is an alpine jacket, so designed for the mountains. Like you say, if it was a civi brand name it's be £2-300 easy. You can get a liner for this jacket to reduce wear and tear internally on the goretex, but think they are becoming harder to find these days. Very skuff/scratch resistant. You'd have to do something really daft to tear these. I'd say cos of the helmet compatible hood it' swamps you a bit, and being looser, prob not great for mountain climbing. On a warm day it is also a bit boil in the bag, esp around the lover arm area. Havng said all that, killer value for money, and looks a lot better than the Brit MVP/DWP jackets. Mind you I covet those Swedish splinter cam Gore-tex jackets, they can be expensive though. Cool Channel!
I bought one a couple of weeks ago for around £45 (Grade 1) im 6ft slender so i went for medium and the fit is perfect. There were s couple of small repairs but all the drawstrings etc are spot on. A really smart and practical jacket.
Former Austrian soldier here. Well, very, very former, i was in the army in 1989. We didn't have no goretex jackets back than. Must be forged...😂 Man, nice jacket.
There are two versions of this jacket, one with side vents and one without I have both versions. Gore-Tex is clearly marked on the tag which means W.L. Gore & Associates has to approve and test the design of this jacket before they sell the material to the manufacturer or government contractor. Polyamide is the external material that is laminated to the Gore-Tex membrane. This Austrian Army Alpine jacket uses a three layer Gore-Tex membrane which is the best there is and is comparable to the $2000.00usd+ Arc'Teryx Leaf Alpha Gen1 jacket and even better in design in some instances. North Face and those retail brands make nothing close to this. ua-cam.com/video/fo_0PkeP3oc/v-deo.html
@@RedBranchBushcraft The price was still reasonable at €23 for the non vented version and €30 for the vented version in early 2022 for a Grade 1 milsurp jacket, then the price shot up once everyone found out about them. The Austrian army ditched their olive drab uniforms for their new scramble eggs camo in 2017 so these are getting rarer and rarer six years later.
@@hanselmon2675 It's fine if you don't do a lot of strenuous physical activities like climbing cliffs or long marches. Side vents is a nice fancy tech apparel feature to have usually found on $2000+ Arc'Teryx Alpha jackets you can always pull down the main zipper a bit to vent.
I've got British Military GORE tex top and bottoms. Top smock is the slightly dated DPM, bottoms are the newer MTP, works for me, keeps me warm and dry and the enemy hasn't killed me yet, BONUS!!!
Just got mine today, and I gotta say, huge thanks! If it weren’t for this video, I’d be clueless about this awesome find-a military-grade Goretex jacket that’s stylish and just for 40 pounds. Seriously, where else can you snag such a deal? 😊👍
What’s it like for noise? Most shell jackets are quite noisy and I’m wanting something for stalking and crawling through cover quietly! Looks a great piece of kit.
@@RedBranchBushcraft Thanks. I was going jacket blind after looking at dozens today on ebay. I can see a difference between your alpine jacket and the M65 goretex jacket, which has 4 pockets on the front and incorporates a liner.
These are just advertisements. I watched several of your videos and you haven’t so far made any critical comments or even suggested how the products perform in the field. I’m afraid that standing around saying “very nice, guys” does not constitute a product review. Try to add some value.

Do you think that the M65 with goretex is as good or better?
I've never tried it, they are cheap

Man, nice jacket.
Lol, seems great
The old cotton jacket is similar in design, some people turned them into wax jackets like the British Barbour wax jackets.
Austrian army m65 copy gortex lining from mid 80s very good
@Eric-kn4yn nice
@@Eric-kn4yn You can still get new Austrian Army M65 Gore-Tex jackets, but you cannot find new ones for the Alpine Gore-Tex jackets.

It's an excellent jacket , and at the price it's crazy

@etow8034 great to know, cheers
Would you say wearing the version without the vents is fine? Or is it a must have?

It's not bad , but I don't think gore Tex is best for that, not hardy enough, have a look at ventile
That's a nice jacket, but when are you bringing out the machete and bringing us back to that camp spot that the trail was overgrown with bracken?.
Soon buddy
@@RedBranchBushcraft looking forward to it
@davidherbert415 cool
Mine says Frencys GMBH 2008 on the inside label, so isn’t Carinthia, well mine isn’t ☹️
Still a good jacket
@ how’s it been serving you?

Hi dude! What the size on the label of your jacket 88-92? Or 96-100? Thanks!
96 - 100

Fine bit of kit that
It's nice
How tall are you? I usually wear large but military surplus tends to be a little bigger in size.
I'm 5 foot 7 inches, this is quite big on me
Im looking for one of these exact ones but where should buy from in UK. I'm a slender/average 6ft so can anyone suggest a size please??
The size I can't help with, I'm lost when it comes to EU sizing , have a Google, there's plenty for sale online
Is the Austrian Gore-tex M65 jacket the same item?
I don't think so, this is an outer shell jacket
