Actually even in the UK solitary bees do the majority of bee mediated polination. However you can sort of use honey bees as an indicator for the rest. If they honey bees are dying then chances are so are the solitary bees
Yo matpat, my dude! As somebody who is currently in college for Sustainable Urban Beekeeping, I feel it's important to challenge your take here. It seems like youre taking some information, but not all of it, and putting out a narrative that can be overall harmful for both native and non-native species of bees. To start, yes honeybees are an invasive species. But, that is a neutral term in this context. While these bees are competing with native bees, It's actually human development that affects said bees the most. A wonderful example is specifically the rusty patched bumblebee. It was once the most commom bee in North America, and is now virtually extinct. The issue is that many of these native bees are solitary, ground dwelling pollinators with a MUCH smaller radius of travel than a honeybee. Honeybees will travel up to 6km somewhat comfortably for food sources, where as many digger bees and carpenter bees may only travel 1/12 that radius in their entire lives. #SaveTheBees is referring to these native species, but beekeepers have a vestes interest in caring about both native and non-native species. In fact, my course has dedicated 20% of material to discussing measures tl help promote native bees, like: planting native flower gardens; not tilling flowerbeds; a lack of pesticide use; building enclosures for ground dwelling bees and wood dwelling bees and; simply laying out a fresh water dish full of stones for bees to land on and hydrate. Honeybees have, themselves, been thrust into an important role in our economy, where honey making is a secondary focus to their pollination. Fields upon fields in California will be pollinated by bees brought on trucks, making crops like almonds viable. It's not a practice I personally agree with, but at the same time there isnt really an easy solution. Orchard bees can do factors more work in pollinating apples and pears than a honeybee, but once again that comes down to informed support for native bees, not a lack of support for honeybees. The bee movie used hyperbole to show that honeybees have become an important rung in our food chain. As well, they do have predators in North America, namely bears (maybe more common in rural Ontario, where I'm from) and Skunks. These fur dudes will absolutely fuck up a hive for some tasty honey. I appreciate the vid, but I feel like your conclusion left off quite irresponsibly with a demomized honeybee. With your audience base and intellect persona, I would hope that you understand the power your message can have. I expected at least some sort of resources to support native bees in the end slate. Or, alternatively, an offer of solution beyond "honeybees are actually bad guys." I understand that it would break format for you, but it feels like a matter of principle. At least to me, one bee loving dude. Yo check this out, support organic and local beekeepers, check out this link for helping bumblebees (www.bumblebee.org/nestboxes.htm), and plant native species of wildflower (weeds aren't taxinomically a thing, open your perceptions to the importance of dandelions). Big money, one love and I'm out.
In college for bee-keeping? That’s a new career path to pay thousands for nothing..... but non-the-less wasn’t Yellowstone transformed into beauty after the wolves were introduced???? Didn’t human life transcend the world into a different place over other species? This video is a poor argument......
BennyC after wolves were RE-introduced, the wolves were natural predators that had been killed off and humans and their 12 gauges. I do agree the video makes a bad argument, but tbh I find MOST of matpats arguments to be flawed, and often cherry picking evidence and disregarding that which doesn't align with his theory.
What I've learnt: 1.Don't trust talking bees 2.Honeybees are killing my favorite transformer Bumblebee 3. You should murder every single honeybee in existence Edit: IN MURICAAAAAAAA!!!!!! not in existance
Mathew, maybe the decreased bee population isn't a problem for the U.S., but in Europe it is reaaaaaally important. We don't have many species of bees here. It is a problem in Germany as an example. We had decreased crops because of the bees dissapearing (being killed by too many humans) because we didn't knew that bees are that important AND that bees are getting rid of the other pollinators. We thought there would be enough pollinators but it would be too long to wait for the increase of them. I do agree that the U.S. doesn't need the bees, but Europe.... Yeaaaaaahhhhhh...
Couldn't Europe just get some Honey Bees from America? Yeah, Probobly the answer is "No, You are stupid", but I Thought I Should Ask that. Honey Bee being send to Europe wouldn't make so much Eco-Chaos, right?
Probably not, I'm not an ecologist nor the actual Bill Nye, but I think the problem there would be much more economic, political, or pragmatic than ecological. If they were to get bees from America, the US is probably the wrong place to turn, it takes a long time for us to change our minds on anything or get anything done lol.
People keep complaining about how MatPat doesn't say he's specifically talking about America, but I counted several times that he mentioned he's talking about North America. The part where he says "worldwide" was when he said that the bumblebee is on a "global decline"... then again, this comment might get torn apart by someone who has time on their hands...
Yep, and in fact only some of Europe and most of Africa should have the Western Honeybee. Asia and Pacific islands that have indigenous bees have some stingless honeybee varieties, and like he said there are all manner of non-honey bees that span the globe. The honeybee is just a VERY cool mistake, just like humans are.
@Jascha Bull - Fair point! On the other hand though, Vampires have _two_ types of stingers, and there's a whole culture revolving around _them_ ;) ....I am fully aware that Vampires do not exist, but *my point* still stands!...No pun intended, I swear...

However you can sort of use honey bees as an indicator for the rest. If they honey bees are dying then chances are so are the solitary bees
Honey bees. Not all bees.
“Let me lick your neck” had me DYING 💀💀💀
Yea, I was thinking the whole vid, doesnt the ecosystem evolve when introduced to a new species
In college for bee-keeping? That’s a new career path to pay thousands for nothing..... but non-the-less wasn’t Yellowstone transformed into beauty after the wolves were introduced???? Didn’t human life transcend the world into a different place over other species? This video is a poor argument......
Thank you! Your comment deserves to be on top instead of all those stupid meme comments
I will help you reach the top of the comment section.
"And they make out!"

Queen Salmon - 6:09
Queen Salmon I had to stop the video. I was laughing at that. 😂
So the other bees need to get off their butts and learn how to make us some honey if they want to be protected. Lol
What I've learnt:
1.Don't trust talking bees
2.Honeybees are killing my favorite transformer Bumblebee
3. You should murder every single honeybee in existence
Edit: IN MURICAAAAAAAA!!!!!! not in existance
Better number 3. You should murder every single honeybee in AMERICA!
Only in America
Don't hate honeybees. Humans are the ones that brought them to America.
@@waspsfriend8577 not just in America, there are other aces where honey bees aren't native
One thing from me:I've been lied my whole life about honey bees
TheOdd1sout: I hate bees but their important
Matpat:they do nothing

i declare war on honeybees!
Not to mention that insects aren't the only pollinators, there's also hummingbirds and certain species of bats.
Dionette don’t forget the wind
Woooosh 💨
and the wind itself [edit; whoops didn't see that someone already said that]
Funny thing is, the bees ARE being farmed willingly, If a beekeeper is bad, the queen bee leaves and the rest of the hive follows.
Maybe Europe needs to import pollinators? Then again playing god with the ecosystem rarely turns out well.
Bill Nye we will have to see what happens
Couldn't Europe just get some Honey Bees from America? Yeah, Probobly the answer is "No, You are stupid", but I Thought I Should Ask that. Honey Bee being send to Europe wouldn't make so much Eco-Chaos, right?
Probably not, I'm not an ecologist nor the actual Bill Nye, but I think the problem there would be much more economic, political, or pragmatic than ecological. If they were to get bees from America, the US is probably the wrong place to turn, it takes a long time for us to change our minds on anything or get anything done lol.
And in China they sometimes have to pollinate by hand.

Hey Matt Patt, you should do a theory about the "secret ingredient" in SpongeBob SquarePants.
there's a theory that it's crabs because mr crabs is the only crab and they are literally called CRABBY patties.
Yess he should defiantly do this topic
I actually remember it in this one episode. SpongeBob actually revealed that the secret ingredient was love...

Angry and bored environmental science student picking fights with ignorant people here. I got you covered bro.
IceFire Thanks man, sometimes I remember that not everyone on YT are haters and trolls :-]
I noticed that immediately
Yep, and in fact only some of Europe and most of Africa should have the Western Honeybee. Asia and Pacific islands that have indigenous bees have some stingless honeybee varieties, and like he said there are all manner of non-honey bees that span the globe. The honeybee is just a VERY cool mistake, just like humans are.

if a green bee lands on my shoulder and says "let me lick your neck" i would douse my self in kerosine and set my self and the bee on fire
