    Thank you so much for doing a shorter video, Mary. The live today was 8:00 a.m. our time, & this girl is NOT a morning person - waaay too early for me! LOL One thing to add to the ink smooshing category of Oxides is to use cheap photo paper for the smooshing. I learned this at Splitcoaststampers during one of their challenge events. As far as I know, it works only with Oxides. Smoosh your ink(s) onto a slick surface, like for any ink smooshing. You can do one color at a time, or multiple colors. Add water to the ink(s), take your photo paper - I used some I got at Dollar Tree - and smoosh it (front side down) into the ink(s). Then dry it. You can use a heat gun (I have), but even if you are very careful, it will warp the paper. I don't know if the Ranger Heat It tool or a hair dryer would cause less warping, since they don't get as hot, but the ink has to be dry, however you do it. Then just continue smooshing/layering colors, drying between layers. After putting on the last layer of ink, dry the panel. Then, when you are sure you're done with the ink smooshing, take a damp baby wipe & wipe down the paper. I generally wipe in one direction, one pass at a time, & change the part of the baby wipe I'm using with each swipe, so I'm not just dragging ink around the panel. The chalkiness will disappear, & the colors will POP! I don't know how it works, but it's impressive. I don't know if you absolutely HAVE to use a baby wipe, or if just a damp cloth would work. I've tried by rewetting a baby wipe that had dried out, which worked, but I don't know if it's the moisture or whatever they put in baby wipes that achieves the effect. Once you've wiped down your panel, you're done with it - other than using it on a project, of course. :) As far as I know, you can't go back & add more ink smooshing, though, after you've wiped it down. It's a really cool effect, though. I think Tim Holtz originally came up with the technique, but I'm not totally sure about that. But with the Dollar Tree photo paper, at least when I got it, it came with 8 letter-size sheets in a pack, so even if you made all full A2-size panels, that's 32 panels for a little over $1.25! Anyway, just thought I'd add that to your list. Thank you again for sharing this. Hopefully the next live will be at a later time in the day, and I'll be able to join in. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)

    I could not get a good oxide blend until I changed tools. I the felt pads on the handles first, then brushes. I finally switched to the dome foams and that gives me the best blend. I love my oxides!

    I love oxides and understand their properties. What I would like to know is the difference between oxides and hybrids. I have several Hero Arts hybrids and mix brands often especially for ink smooching. Just curious as I haven’t seen anyone comparing them.

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  4 місяці тому

      I am interested in doing a a comparison but as far as I can deduct, they are all "hybrids" in the sense of being half dye ink and half pigment ink. Oxide is the brand name. Think of dye inks being Catherine Pooler, Simon Hurley, or the Distress Line; all dye but different bands. I hope that helps. :)

    • @judyhall5642
      @judyhall5642 4 місяці тому

      @@marypolancodesigns Thank you for your response. It’s what I thought but haven’t seen anyone addressing other brands so wasn’t sure if something made the distress oxcides different from other brands.

    I enjoyed this. Thank you for doing it. But I have a question. I would like to know the difference between oxide ink and hybrid inks.

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  4 місяці тому

      I don't think there is a difference between them. I believe Distress Oxide is the name of that particular hybrid ink, and other companies make their own hybrid. All hybrid means is part die ink, part pigment. I hope that helps. I will say though, I've never tried any other hybrid ink so I think that's my next step. lol

    What do you consider "good" paper?I use 65 and 100#

    • @marypolancodesigns
      @marypolancodesigns  4 місяці тому

      Great question, when ink blending, "good paper" is something that allows me to move the ink across it without soaking in right away. I recommend Bristol Smooth cardstock for ink blending because there is a small coating on it and gives amazing results. Regular cardstock can work too (what you have in the 100#) especially with a hybrid ink because they dont soak in right away either.
