Unless they change the Constitution, the Supreme Court doesn't care about their reputation. Lifetime appointments need to be removed and these Justices need to be able to be held accountable for their corruption. The people in this country don't care about what the court does because it doesn't affect them until it does. No job in government should be a lifetime appointment, especially in the judicial system.

@@bike4jesus It's an appeal on a motion to dismiss, and as such, yes, it is part of a trial. The Supreme Court has very limited options in terms of hypotheticals, and that is if the injury is imminent. There is no imminent injury to future Presidents unless you want to claim that Trump being elected is potentially bad for Biden because he wants to get revenge. Otherwise, SCOTUS should be doing what it legally must and handling the current motions on dismissal for the current indictments. Georgia and the Washington, D.C. indictments would be the only thing of matter because the Florida case is for his retaining documents during the obstruction of litigation on the classified documents, which happened after his Presidency.

I was very unimpressed with the Justices who cut off any discussion of the facts of the case. They did not even want information about Trump's crimes to be spoken out loud. There is a total lack of a moral compass on the Roberts court, and a clear disrespect for the law and the Constitution.

The Supreme Court has no inherent power, its power derives from the fact that the other branches of government pass laws and execute laws and these are accepted by the people. With the gradual loss of the court's reputation, some Republican states are already refusing to implement Supreme Court rulings, see recent decisions on violation of the Voting Rights Act. Republican legislatures have refused to implement the court's decisions against stategic gerrymandering which has resulted in disenfranchisement of minority voters.

The amicus brief needs to be amended to include this:
Pose a more extreme version of the SEAL Team 6 hypothetical to SCOTUS we heard in the Court of Appeals, where a judge asked if Trump’s theory would absolve him if he used the military to take out political opponents. Take it a step further and tell the Court that if Trump has the immunity he claims he does, a president would be free to order the assassination of Supreme Court Justices who disagree with him, and could not be prosecuted for doing that.
Make the impact of Trump’s argument unmistakable. Let the examples of conduct that would be permissible under Trump’s view of immunity drive home how essential it is for the Court to reject his appeal and send this case back on its way to trial.
