    it's still good if you do or don't break even with your ROAS, because if you don't get a sale during your advertising period, all your clicks contribute to your organic ranking. So it's still a plus.

    Its 2023 - Liked the video Sumner! Question: How many listings total do you recommend for our Etsy shop? And what tool do you recomend for SEO Titles/Descriptions? Is Sale Samurai still relevant?

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  Рік тому +1

      20% of your listings will account for 80% of profit.
      More listings = more keywords = more sales.
      Once you find a product that sells well, create variations of it. That's my biggest tip.
      For keyword research my #1 tool is KeySearch and here's why: ua-cam.com/video/DOCglK8fgSo/v-deo.html

    Hi Sumner, thanks for the great video. I've been advertising on Etsy for over a year now, and the way you explained to monitor ads is really helpful. Here's a problem that I've had in 2021: Etsy seems to "surge" spend on one listing I have in my ads, and quickly spends my full daily budget. This seems to happen when I have an item that is showing promise, or has been a best seller. When this happens, the sales don't keep up with the ad spend on that item, and there's nothing left in my daily budget for my other listings. If I raise the budget, it just spends more on that one listing. I know I'm not alone with this issue, as I've talked with other Etsy sellers about the same problem. Any thoughts/suggestions?

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  2 роки тому +1

      Hello Lynn! So glad to hear you found the video valuable and thank you for sharing. I have run into a very similar issue. Unfortunately, as of right now, there is very little you can do. I'm hoping that Etsy provides the option of at least specifying what % of the daily budget should be allocated per listing or set daily budgets by listing instead of overall but unfortunately right now that is not the case. For me, I try to look at at least 60 days worth of data and focus on advertising my top sellers. If any listing is unprofitable over the long-term I will turn that off (even if it was profitable in the past) and vice versa.

    • @LARogersHome
      @LARogersHome 2 роки тому

      @@SumnerHobart, thanks so much. It's super frustrating, because this seems to happen with my "hottest" items, and I have to turn them off, which then causes the sales to drop.

    I come back to this video time and again and I just love this strategy! Does anything change when you're making seasonal products? I'm a POD store so I've been designing for Halloween all summer so things are getting clicked and viewed but not purchased. I'm seeing organic traffic starting to pick up, but how can I test the last 60 days if the products are really only recently in demand? I had a similar issue like someone in the comments where etsy blasted my whole budget on one listing that wasn't performing so I finally turned it off. Considering turning it back on since it's my most liked listing and it's finally halloween. Thoughts for seasonal ads????

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  Рік тому

      Great to hear Olivia and good question! For season products I would identify the exact period where shoppers begin purchasing and only really running ads then.
      Google trends can be helpful in seeing when online traffic is higher for certain products.
      Also keyword tools like keysearch are helpful for the same purpose.

    this is awesome, thank you Sumner just wanted to know is budget model Per day per listing like if I set the budget for 5 dollars and advertise 10 listings so will it be consumed by all of the listings accumulative, or will it be 5 dollars per day per listing. Hope I get a reply thanks

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  2 роки тому

      Hi Shehroze! It will be $5/ day cumulative (not per listing). Keep in mind this is also a maximum budget so certain days you may spend under the $5.00 budget.

    Question-What do you do with the listings that do not have a high enough ROAS? Just let them perform poorly or do you optimize these as well?

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Scott! With other PPC like Google ads, Pinterest ads, Amazon PPC, etc. I would optimize the ad/ campaign until it meets my overall ROAS targets. However, given the fact Etsy gives such limited control what I do, personally, is give each campaign at least 60 days during a good season (so not right before Black Friday or Christmas for example) and if the ads don't perform well for any period wether over the past 30 - 60 days then I'll leave the ads off and consider testing in the future with better reviews/ improved images, description, etc. Let me know if this makes sense.

    • @ScottBelleriWorkshop

      Awesome to hear! Hopefully the first of many. I actually just created an update video a couple of weeks ago (ua-cam.com/video/0jgFXYvHc-o/v-deo.html).
      If your title and tags are well keyword optimized you can begin running ASAP.
      Just know you conversion rate will always be lower with no reviews vs. several 5-star reviews so you may be losing money in the beginning to increase rank and reviews over the long term.

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  2 роки тому

      Hi Haydn! Not at all. Unfortunately, Etsy is a bit of a mystery in terms of how they display ads. The best you can do is just set a high budget and turn on high-performing listings. I believe Etsy takes into account past sales data, review rating, keyword optimization, etc. I would make sure your listing(s) are properly keyword optimized as that can play a large factor.

  • @user-zk4ce8hy9f

    There is many problems with this,
    consider a shop that has 1000 listings, and the listings that are the top sellers, are the random ones they have selected to advertise, my top selling item in my store has generated $0 revenue through the ad clicks, after spending $200 on that listing alone in ads, so it's either people buying after the 30 days, or just organic searches, and not window shoppers browsing through the ads, meanwhile my brand new listings that might be higher quality, I should be advertising to see how they would perform.. alot of the listings I thought wouldn't perform had insane ROAS, meanwhile my top sellers had very high clicks but not sales...

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  Рік тому +1

      1. Agreed. Many flaws with the Etsy ads system (not being able to allocate budget to specific listings, no negative targeting, no keyword targeting, not able to control bids, no bulk ops files, etc)

    You don’t talk about BE roas or conversion rate. You don’t have to run ads for months to collect data. If you want to collect data quick you have to raise the daily budget. Suggesting a roas of 3+ is dumb as every product varies in cost and final sale price. You don’t just spend and spend product for months. You calculate your BE roas si you know I’m advance how much you can spend to adquiere a customer.

    • @SumnerHobart
      @SumnerHobart  2 роки тому +1

      Good points and somewhat agree. This video is made simple for beginners. To take things a step further:
      1. Yes, always good to understand how much you're willing to spend to acquire a customer. When it comes to Etsy ads I (personally) set my target CPA equal to my profit per order. If I make $10.00 in profit per sale I'm willing to spend $10.00 to make that sale in order to boost keyword ranking, increase reviews (through sales) and get my product inserts into more customers hands to post on social, etc. Of course, everyone will have a different BE ROAS based on goals and profit margin (especially comparing physical to digital products) and 3+ is a decent start.
      2. Definitely still recommend letting ads run for at least 30 days before making major changes (assuming you're within your budget). Due to lack of control by Etsy there's a lot more variability in results and daily ad spend. You could be unprofitable for the first 14 days but then in the following 14 days some of those clicks you paid for convert into sales and vice versa. You could also set a high daily budget and take time for the budget to actually get spent.
      3. Using an average Etsy conversion rate of between 1% - 3% you would need at least 34 - 100 clicks to make a more informed decision whether the ads are converting. Even then, more data = better if you can budget it.
