That interpreter is absolutely AMAZING! She deserves all the praise for delivering director Bong’s answers so quickly, accurately, and eloquently. Always in awe of her linguistic intelligence. Excited for her future works in cinema
Yes, and Mr. Darcy Paquet, too!
She's an interpreter not a translator, there's a difference. But yeah she really is amazing!
I've tried that work before.... holy shit
U talking bout my wife there!
👏👏👏
Bong is so humble, yet so gangster holding those Oscars. Also really enjoyed how he paid his respects to Scorsese, Quentin, and the other nominees. Congrats on making history!
Mr. Moon it’s a joke bud chill
@Mr. Moon I am Korean-American, and the context in which I used the word “gangster” in my comment was to convey how impressive Bong looks holding not 1 but 2 Oscars.
대한민국 ! 🤗
Mr. Moon idk if you’re just stupid or don’t know English slang words that are used in other occasions but whatever it is you clearly don’t listen to ppl
My man's was like, I wish I could clap back. But I got too many Oscars to hold.
Wouldn't it be great if in the future his interpreter wins an oscar

And then Bong could be her translator 😂

Been watching this guys films for years....he really deserves the recognition.
Facts, the host was amazing..it ALWAYS stuck with me so im really glad he won...south korean movies are incredible
leicanoct Okja and Snowpiercer are both on Netflix US. If you’re not in the US, I think his other film The Host is on Netflix in Asia
@leicanoct What MGEE said and also the film "Mother"
@leicanoct Definitely recommend "the host" its a masterpiece in my opinion, but after its done it will stay with you for a while.....south korean movies in general, train to busan!!!!!, man from no where, oldboy, i saw the devil...just to name a few, you won't regret it..check them out whenever you can
@MGEE how is snowpiercer? I've been sleeping on this movie for a while now
4:30 as a European, I got used to watching films with subtitles from a very early age...it's basically how I learned English, subtitles in video games, movies, series, etc...if your ONLY reason to not watch a foreign film is because you don't understand the language and need subtitles I don't want to know your opinion on a movie
Well said! I experienced the same growing up in Latin America. I am a follower of BTS, the musicians from South Korea and they experience the same prejudice because they don't sing in English 💜
Amen!! Born & raised in the US but didn’t know my parents mother tongue as fluently so I watched movies with the subtitles and that’s how I learned.
That also got me to branch out other movies - Spanish, French, korean, Italian, and more. I find that there are so many excellent and superior movies out there than the ones the US entertainment business advertises.
I think that's basically how it is around the world except for the US. I live in Asia and I've been watching movies with subtitle ever since i could read properly. If there is someone who don't watch foreign movies because of subtitles here, they would be seen as having low intelligence, because either they read too slow or have a very bad comprehension skill, or both. So it kinda threw me off when i found out that many US audiences hate subtitles. I know that there's culture differences and all, but still...
Hear hear. There's only one race. The human race.
Im not even a korean but im so happy for him. His speech when he honors his role model and fellow nominees made me teared up too😢

I've been a massive fan of Bong Joon Ho and Chan Wook Park for many years.
The first Korean movie I saw was Memories of Murder and I've been a fan of Korean Cinema ever since.
When this started to win all the awards I knew that it was going to win Best Picture, for the academy had clearly recognized his charm. Damn, I cried when it won. Congrats :)
Dir/maestro Park Changwook is same level of dir. Bong Jonghoo deserve an award too.. the 2003's directors award is a rob..
Park Chan wook is a f*ckinf beast. I love how twisted his movie is. Damn
I really hope the crew, or the Academy or someone gets that translator an Oscar of her own, she has been amazing and by Bongs and the cast/films side this whole award season.
You don't win Oscars unless you work in film. She actually is a film maker and writer herself so maybe that could happen but they don't give out Oscars for being a translator

its already began.. "they gave them for diversity", "that certain film should sweep the awards instead", "japan or chinese?", and etc. mostly from ig page. i guess racist can't be cured forever..
Unfortunately, it already has begun. Just look at the Oscar official website. But, if you look at those haters most of them are just about 2K comments compared to the 45K people who are happy to see this film succeed!
even if they try to hes the one with 4 oscars
Let it come out. Let low lives parade themselves around, they are quite entertaining. Not to mention, they are not the ones succeeding and receiving credits for their merits obviously.

WOW I FLIPPED OUT. 4 WINS AND BEST PICTURE!!! Didn't think The Academy has the integrity to do this.
BRAVO!!!!
MoviePOP best picture that’s sad
they did it because they don't have integrity
Stephanie Lloyd what do you mean?
Jessica L Sam Mendes well and truly deserved Best Director and nobody can tell me otherwise. He created a true technical masterwork. I liked both movies though.
@@jessical319 I texted my brother hours before the Oscars started saying they got so much shit for leaving out Little Women in the Best Director category that the only way they can get it out of it is to give the award to Parasite. Parasite never should've been nominated for both Best Foreign Language/International Film AND Best Picture, so as soon as they did, it was obvious the intent was to have the film win in both categories because "THE BEST FILM ISN'T ALWAYS AMERICAN". Why even have the category if you can win in both? It's repetitive.
I knew hours in advance exactly what Oscars they would win because the political agenda is so glaringly obvious. They have no integrity so every year they routinely nominate the film that will suit their agenda and not truly the best film. Same goes for a number of the other awards.
Mendes gave us incredible storytelling, showing the futility of war and the bravery of the individuals who faced danger even with so much waiting for them at home. For 1917 to get cinematography as their highest award is truly a snub for the ages. For them to lose to Parasite and not Joker or anything but Ford vs. Ferrari and OUTIH is actually horrifying.
Pure genius, but it's even more amazing to see great humbleness in this man.
Bong Joon Ho finally! Also hat translator is fast! Props to her too for being able to bring out his words in a way that the humor is not lost through the translation
Parasite will go down as an all time classic. Well deserved Oscars, could have possibly won another one for cinematography
Thats fanboy comment right there. One thing is to say a film is the best, ok. But respect other films please. Cinematography was clear for 1917.
Keyword possibly. 1917 was an obvious choice, Parasite was a top notch beautiful film though, can’t get much cleaner

Don’t let anyone spoil it for you! I rented it on amazon prime today and holy shit. I was not disappointed
As a bilingual who speaks Korean and English, I am in just awe of the interpreters (Sharon Choi's) skills in interpreting every nuances of Director Bong's message. There are almost always loss in meaning when we translate from one language to another but her mastery of both languages are clearly evident in her work. I can tell with no doubt that she captures all the meanings and does it with phenomenal speed. I'm just at a loss for words. I have heard and seen many interpreters over the many decades but none had the full grasp as deeply as she. She rephrased every words that comes out of Director Bongs mouth so eloquently and so emotionally that every sentences can be quotable.
Let's have a moment of silence for the first guy who fan himself during Oscars backstage interview
They always ask them questions about Asia/Asian people, when Koreans and just mainland Asians generally identify with their ethnicity and nationality more than their race. Its not as relevant to them as much as people think it is and especially compared to the Asians living outside Asia, like asian Americans.
Koreans live as the majority ethnicity in their own country, so they do not develop any complexes associated with being a minority. It is a sort of unseen "privilege" that allows one to project more confidence on a day-to-day basis. They obviously know they are ultimately guests in a foreign land at the Oscars, but they know they have a place to go back to where they'll be in the majority again.
@@rocky171986 right, and a lot of them don't want to be group together with other asians.
@일산발해인 They think mainland asians are the same and are in solidarity with each other.
When they insult Chinese people for the coronavisus, they will treat and do the same to any Asian looking person. When they award a Korean film, they will congrats other Asians and expect good upcoming films from Asians, not koreans specifically. Its how they always viewed Asians, especially east asians who have a complicated relationship with each another but to westerners they find it hard to distinguished them.
@@rocky171986 The pan asian diaspora have that relationships. Despite our differences, we share stories more with each other than with our homelands. They're projecting that onto Korean Koreans but some of that comes from how much the diaspora share. The story of my father coming to Canada is different in flavor than a Korean, or Ukrainian, or a South African but the substance of the story is very similar.
@일산발해인 Just saying why some of the fluff reporters are getting it wrong. Their friends are diaspora so they confuse their issues with issues elsewhere. It's dumb but that's why.
Historic win! So well deserved.
The reason why this film kicked butt?!
Because it had an ORIGINAL STORY IDEA... a concept which tends to confound film studios.
I know... Lets do LITTLE WOMEN again... and again... and again... because we're too scared to be creative.
True, little women was actually really well made and directed, but the story was just not super interesting for me.
