    How to shoot a sunrise timelapse into the sun. In this video I will use a fixed exposure for a seamless time lapse sunrise. I will concentrate on the photography side, while in a specific video I will explain my post processing routine. I will also do another video of the same topic, but using variable exposure. Timelapses of sun rise are similar to sunsets, but with the added difficulty of not seeing the brightest part at the beginning of the process. Sunrise video, time lapse sunrise time lapse settings

    Clouds are an astrophotograper's worst nightmare lol. I came here because I've been interested in astrophotography and figured sunrise/sunset time lapses were related and another thing to try with the intervalometer I just bought.
    It's funny how much clouds affect the scenes we're trying to get. Either you want them or you don't lol

    Hi Vic, Thank you very much for this guide. I am relatively new to photography, & sunrise is my favourite part of the day. I love to timelapse. Your points about setting aperture for the brightest part of the sequence is game changer. I will now play about with timing & number if shots. I have subscribed & will let you know how I get on. Many thanks again. Paddy( Ireland 🇮🇪)

      Thank you Paddy,
      I would love to spend a few weeks in Ireland next summer.
      I remember beautiful sunrises in Dublin bay, and great sunsets around Galway

    Great video. I'm looking for tutorials like this (sunrise - harder to find than sunsets)... to plan/test a sunrise sequence for a partial solar eclipse happening in my area next year (6/20/2021, western side of NY, USA). The sun will rise over the horizon of lake Ontario partially covered and with a crescent shape. I want to capture the sun clear enough to see the crescent and hopefully some minor clouds to make it interesting. Tx!

    Dear Vic, thanks for another great video - this is something I have been working on getting better at myself so it was very helpful.
    Would it be useful to shoot these timelapses in slog2 picture profile to increase the dynamic range of the image?

    J wake op here erly at 04.45 AM and drove to the nearby beaches here in Denmark. Used the kompass on my Iphone to find the sunrise. Did not have the opportunity to be there the day before. But set the camera after Your instructions, shutterspeed 2 sec., aperture was difficalt to set in the dark but chose to set it to 22. Wondered that the aperture should go all the way to 22? Sec. Off recording was set to 4 sec with 60 frames. Got too late to start shooting but got a reasonable resultat with my Fujifilm XT20. Will now put the shooting on my PC and try to use windows media player. Thanks for great instructions!!

      Thank you Eric,
      I normally don't go very low with aperture, because the quality of the image goes down due to diffraction.
      In the case of sunrise or sunset with the sun in the image I make an exception to get a nice star shape, so I might go between f!! and f16

    I enjoy your educational videos, I, too, am a Timelapse photographer. I would like to know if you can use On1 Photo Raw to adjust key frames for LRTimelapse. In theory it might work, but want to know your opinion. I have found LRT to do a better job of deflicker that On1.

    I dont get it - if Im doing a sunset time lapse and I want to continue it into a Astro sky time lapse I have to adjust my shutter speed . I don’t think this is a issue as the time lapse is running , but the problem is adjusting my intervalometer . How do I adjust this to match my shutter speed ? I’m using magic lantern by the way

    What color temperature do you recommend using for sunrise and which one for sunset?

    • @VICVideopIC
      @VICVideopIC  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Carlos,
      in most cases I use between 5500 to 6000, in the case of sunrises and sunset around 5500.
      THen I fine tune in post processing

    have you ever tried to put it in aperture mode? most people don't have the time to go back to the location and shoot. then run it with LR timelapse

    • @VICVideopIC
      @VICVideopIC  3 роки тому

      Hi RIchard,
      yes, aperture mode is another possibility.
      But with sunrise the difference in luminosity if very strong, so I prefer to stay in manual mode and be able to play with all three parameters: ISO, speed and aperture for more latitude

    I am worried about damaging my camera sensor. I only have ND8 filters. How do you get ND500 filters?

  • @ypsiow1008
    @ypsiow1008 3 роки тому +1

    Can't we just set the frequency, turn on the HDR and auto exposure and start shooting? Yes there is a point you'll need the ND filter (when the sun is too bright and cloud loses colour), but we can't mount the filter right from the beginning right? Doing so will underexpose the foreground/shadow.

    • @VICVideopIC
      @VICVideopIC  3 роки тому

      Some people use aperture priority auto exposure, but I prefer to always use manual.
      This way I can control that each of the factors for exposure (ISO, aperture and shutter speed) remains within acceptable values

    • @VICVideopIC
      @VICVideopIC  Рік тому

      Hi Steve,
      these are timelapses made by a series of photos (at least 300) put together into a video, giving the idea of an extremely fast sunrise, basically 10 seconds of video cover about an hour in real life
