and as far i know shes not much bring forward Irish issue in EU that she should give a priority,
@@cimuraisampi It's not that simple in Ireland. We have a vote transfer system, in theory "vote splitting" isn't really a thing.
Voters number candidates in order of preference, from 1 to however far down the list you want to go. The candidates with the lowest votes are eliminated one by one, and their votes go to the voter's next preference (assuming the voter specified one.) It's impossible to say the likes of e.g. Brid Smith running made a difference. If people voted for Brid and didn't make a point of continuing their preference for Clare, I don't think you can confidently assume they would have voted for Clare if Brid hadn't run.
As for your second point, this was a European election. Gaza should have been one of if not the central issue, especially in Ireland. The media focused a lot on things like migration policy instead.
2 things worked against Clare Daly in the end.
One was transfer friendliness. Those who like her, love her. Those who don't like her think she's a mouthpiece for the Kremlin or some other insane shit. I even saw British "leftists" like Paul Mason celebrating her defeat. Not being transfer friendly makes it hard to win in Ireland. It's good to have a base, but simply not being offputting to people who mostly disagree with you can get you over the line in a pinch.
The other was that as an anti-establishment candidate, the people who might consider transferring votes to Clare are the politically disaffected. These people are the least likely to vote, and Dublin had by far the lowest turnout of the 3 Irish regions. But beyond that, much of the disaffected vote was tied up with a dipshit called Niall Boylan, a reactionary radio host making his first foray into politics. He wasn't eliminated until the final count, by which time Clare was already eliminated.
I don't think you can call that "vote splitting". Clare and Niall have polar opposite politics.

There'll be a general election in the next 12 months, maybe by the end of the year. I wouldn't be surprised if she's back in office before too long.

They're not really in a party. Independents are a big thing in Ireland, and sometimes they form loose party-esque associations to gain access to TV debates and parliamentary priviledges which usually require a certain amount of seats or vote share. I4C (independents for change) is more a holdover of their time in the Dáil (Irish house of parliament). There is no party outside them, beside like 2 local councillors. They *are* the "party".

@@zeeone4492 no, but I think there have certainly been cases, not necessarily within EU elections, where electoral result manipulation has occurred, and a few years ago some former /retired US three letter intelligence/security agency officer reported that such manipulation was one of those things they were (or his agency was) tasked with. And so I guess I am generally suspicious or wary of possible "slight of hand" within our anonymous election vote tallying.
But I don't know much about how the EU elections are conducted, and e.g. whether or not paper ballots are used and hand counted, or if there are any phases of the process where the voting data might be subject to electronic manipulation in a way which would not be immediately detected and caught. Katie, I’m a Dubliner and I voted for Clare. Like so many of us I am furious at how Clare lost her seat in the European Parliament, which was not because there was big swing against Clare and what she stands for, but it was because of the entry into the election of Brid Smith a left-wing member of the Irish parliament. Brid Smith and her party, People Before Profit, entered the election on a similar (but false) platform of support for Palestine etc., absolutely knowing the result would be a split in the left-wing vote that would prevent Clare from retaining her seat. That party, PBP, are an Irish offshoot of a British and US political group, known as, International Socialist Network in the US, and Socialist Workers Party in Britain. These people, in all likelihood, also were in involved in the sabotage of Clare’s election prospects. It is not just wild speculation to say this; it is totally understood in left-wing circles in Ireland that it was conscious and deliberate sabotage committed by Brid Smith and her party. I’m not the only one who is furious, the whole of the Left in Ireland on social media etc., and even the mainstream, know it was deliberate sabotage, with an input from the sources I’ve mentioned, including the American one, who operate within Biden’s Democratic Party. I just want you and your audience to know of this important fact.

@@maureennewman905 The numbers bear it out, Brid Smith took 25000 votes away from clare's general support base, knowing she would not have enough to win, but for certain knowing she would take a sufficient number of votes in that (left-wing) category to sabotage Clare. Brid Smith is now retiring from the Dáil (Irish parliament) and will receive her very handsome pension - along with the enmity of us Irish supporters of Palestine, and I'm sure also of the astute Palestinian people.

Maybe her truth telling speeches didn't comfort some influential Companies, Lobbyists, Business-and Trading Specialists and Traders and their Companies, deeply involved in Business-deals of EU-Israeli relationships of their trading deals, to face the truths and facts about the Warfare waged against the Palestinian people and intent of the Israeli Government, not accepting of equality of the Palestinian people, the Universality of human rights and humanitarian law, to accept or recognise the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, to have a right, to be protected from disproportional attacks, inciting hatred, violence and discrimination against their dignity and freedoms and to be recognised as a group of people,
(with rights and needs to be protected) from the possibility of serious threads and possible serious harm to be inflicted to the Gazan Palestinians as a group of people to their life's and under possible thread to their very existence.
Some Diplomatic and Political sources, didn't wanted to accept the possibility of the threads, the warning signs of inflammatory and dehumanizing rhetorik and incitement of hatred in speeches against the Palestinians as a people, to recognise the existential threads to their life's and civil society.
(Many political figures failed to their duties, to prevent serious violations of humanitarian laws, the UN-Charter, the Geneva conventions and to protect and prevent serious harm inflicted on the Gazan Palestinians as a distinctive group of people. (With a right to be protected and to be prevented from serious harm inflicted on them)
For a lot of officials, diplomatic figures and politicians in western countries, it didn't fitted to the biased narrative of "good and evil" or the bias of
"allies and aliens" for a clear sight to judge actions of escalations and violence of involved parties.

I voted for Clare, as did all of my family and friends, and any sane member of her Dublin constituency.
There were 23 candidates for 4 seats in the Dublin area. This year's MEP elections were extremely divisive, as can be seen by the terrifying gains of the far-right across ALL of Europe as a whole.
The election was tight, and Clare was still in the race until recent days. So, she did receive a lot of votes, despite foreign interference trying to smear her name.
Be more mindful of what you say. And if you can't, then shame on you as you are not helping anything!
Another popular far left politician (Brid Smith) ran in the same Dublin constituency and split the far left vote. And neither of them got elected. Very predictable unfortunately.

I think that's the first time I've heard a non-South African pronounce apartheid correctly -- apart hate, not apart hide. Ireland has done a lot more than most countries in relation to Palestine.
I voted for Clare, as did all of my family and friends, and any sane member of her Dublin constituency.
There were 22 candidates for 4 seats in the Dublin area. This year's MEP elections were extremely divisive, as can be seen by the terrifying gains of the far-right across ALL of Europe as a whole.
The election was tight, and Clare was still in the race until recent days. So, she did receive a lot of votes, despite foreign interference trying to smear her name.
Be more mindful of what you say. And if not, then shame on you, as you are not helping anything!
