Realism simply means you look at the world from the lens of countries competing with eachother based on material self interest rather then having some ideological goal or value based approach. Saying that Realism simply means "i am just realistic" shows you have no idea what you are talking about.
@@greatdude7279 Well, people who claim to be realists, i.e. claiming to "look at the world from the lens of countries competing with each other based on material self interest rather than having some ideological goal or value based approach." are a red flag to me, as I don't believe you can ever have a goal or an approach that is not based on some value or ideology. You can't call yourself out of that game and proudly claim the general word "realist" as if you are above everybody else. Just to give you an idea of what I am talking about.
Don't underestimate how much ideology inside the intelligence agencies plays its role in all this, on top of the relationships they have with the industrial sector. I have to continue pointing out that after the cold war, the soviet hierarchy was destroyed almost entirely, and replaced with people that understood the need to move forward, in contrast, the ones in the US and Europe kept going and still operate on the same ideologies and notions, and also still manage the trillion dollar military infrastructure prepared against Eurasia. Some genuinely believe that the Russians and the soviets were the same thing, not getting the whole Marxist vs Orthodox divide, since both those things were unheard in the US for all their lives, they have no clue. And adding to what you said, they have a trillion dollar weapon system being maintained and already pointed at their Eurasian target, I'd would be such a shame if all that money stopped flowing and ended up being for nothing... That's how a lot of them think, and they also don't realize how it looks to have a weapon system designed for a huge internationalist empire, being now pointed at a third world country with a dwindling population and a bad reputation that proceeded their very existence. This outlook will become much more evident in the following decades, and I'm guessing that in 300 years, the western history from 1914 to this decade will be told much more differently.

His geopolitics are actually fairly conservative -- which is why he's still considered a legit analyst by the "foreign policy" blob. He is a legend in his own mind.
I dont understand your comment can you explain it further?
@@greatdude7279 Saying that you're a realist is a non-argument. "I'm just realistic" doesn't mean anything.
@@njits789
Except "realism" is an actual school of thought in academia when it comes to international relations...
Realism simply means you look at the world from the lens of countries competing with eachother based on material self interest rather then having some ideological goal or value based approach. Liberalism in the terms of international relations is based on the idea that liberal countries are more inclined to cooperate and are more peaceful ergo changing every country to liberal one is better for the world.
"Terrorism is the war of the poor, and war is the terrorism of the rich." (Peter Ustinov, 2003)
PM is as shallow as a tadpole.
It's as if big business said to the US, we helped you defeat Russia, now you help us make money; so America increased it's extortion work.
Pierce Morgan is a humiliation.
Financing the largest military apparatus in the name of freedom and democracy is an oxymoron.
John Mearsheimer is a gangsta!!!! He totally humiliated Morgan. Brutal humiliation.
It is fascinating that Piers cares so much about Islamic women's hijab, but he doesn't care about their lives.
Mearsheimer is brilliant. Glad Morgan is raising his standards with guests like this.
This Professor Must assist with the American Political system as an Advisor , they need him 🙏🏼✌️🇬🇧
On the contrary, he was chastised and smeared when his book"The Israel lobby" was published.
Thank you so very much mister John Mearsheimer for your professional perspective about the United States Of America. Bless you, Sir. 👍🙏🙂
What are freedoms and democracy USA is protesting around the world?
DEMONCRACY
Putting Dr. Mearshimer up against Piers Morgan isnt fair.
Yes agreed mismatched
Most people have been duped for decades, problem is many don’t really care.
I care but the only chance I get to show it is every 4-5 years (UK) I get to vote for one of two parties that don't listen to the people, much like the USA!
John, Mearsheimer and Piers Morgan, the difference between someone who knows what he talking about and someone who thinks he knows what he talking about.
America doesn’t even have freedom and democracy in the states 🙄
Yes, the US cannot compete with such democracies like Iran, Qatar, Gaza. 😂

We still have Freedom Fighters native and Black locked up in prison on bogus charges.. so when I said we don’t have freedoms, I said what I said. You apparently weren’t educated on what the America government has done to its own people. How pathetic were your parents?!
You bringing up Middle East countries like the things that some of them want, aren’t the same things that right wing Christians aren’t advocating for here. You act like I don’t have to follow laws of some sick morality rules, based on a god, that I don’t even believe in.

The idea that the world would be a harmoniously peaceful place if only America would butt out of other nations' business is naive, to say the least.
We are not leader of free world. That is your view.
Then quit spouting it at every turn.
Thanks Prof. Mearsheimer!
Why if we have these kind of intellectuals, why America still f s up all over the world....?
How gullible a very seasoned senior anchorman or journalist can be is epitomised in this person..
The ‘free’ in ‘leaders of the free world’ means free trade and free to pursue anything that doesn’t upset US position as world hegemon. It’s utterly nebulous and can mean anything at anytime. Piers is naive to the point of idiocy.
They don't pursue free trade any more, look at all the new tariffs. They only want free trade if they are competitive. No more.
"A could thousand troops"

I remember watching this & Mearsheimer's facial language which showed nothing but contempt for Morgan, utter disgust for having to discuss such issues that Morgan can not comprehend due to his stupidity in believing western propaganda and lies of the MSM, just like he did with the bug.
Nobody forced him to go on that show.
When country has opinion and force other country to have same opinion it called tyranny.
I could never understand how America's sending the military all over the world to be an example of how countries should operate when we barely function ...
They just signed a bill late late Friday drafting American men 18-26 automatically 😂💀OH America 🇺🇸
Military response should occur ONLY if a country is attacked!
I don't know if Morgan is naive, brainwashed or is just parroting the U.S.foreign policy script.
America needs a history lesson.

But the case was not whether the United States should have been in Afghanistan. The case is whether they should have left once they were there, and whether they should have left the way they did.

By stating the ad hominem attack in the headline you positioned yourself much under any response provided by Piers, who, btw, drove the interview in a very polite and mature way, showing that two people that think differently can have a pleasure talk - even not agreeing.
Congrats to professor John Mearsheimer for the deep , mature and enlighting answer. The interview with Piers was a masterclass. Also congrats to @smith4407 for the great comment.

Mearsheimer isn’t a neocon, but people shouldn’t confuse that with being a conservative, in general. He is, in fact, conservative, and there’s no contradiction with political realism and conservatism. That’s not meant to be an insult on my part, I quite like Mearsheimer, and I think a lot of his work is really valuable. I’m merely making the point bc I have seen some leftists confuse him as part of the team, bc of some of his perspectives that align with ours, and that’s a mistake. It’s just important to bear in mind, is my only point. Still, he’s better than 99% of the conservatives and liberals who comment on these things.
It is an old interview ,not recent

I bet if I decided that i was going fight for freedom and democracy, and I decided it was my responsibility to barge into the building and offices out of which Piers Morgan runs his show, and reshape it into a democratic organization as I see fit, Piers would fight me one way or another.
But who cares what Piers wants? I advocate for freedom and democracy, so i have a responsibility to free his employees from their extreme capitalist shackles in which they are paid much less than their labor is worth.

Prof Mearsheimer is always brutally honest...That's why I always enjoy listening to his views
Bravo Prof. Mearsheimer! Spot on.
Mearsheimer is pretty good, but he rarely seems to mention profits, control of resources and markets to generate them. These are the real motivations for imperialism.
He is a mixed bag. I get tired of him being treated as perfect. However he is always worth listening to, even if you disagree.
His geopolitics are actually fairly conservative -- which is why he's still considered a legit analyst by the "foreign policy" blob. Mearsheimer is great because he's usually on the right side of global politics and he's quite gracious, but he's definitely not offering a "left" or anti-imperialist perspective that you might get from someone like, say, Michael Parenti.
To Piers Morgan:
Never ask anyone to do anything that you are not willing to do yourself.
It's mind bending to actually hear people say such obvious western propaganda non-ironically. someone NEEDS to school Piers on "the school of the americas" to completely dispel hum of this myth be believes that the US tries to spread democracy.
