Hi Dietrich, lovely video,I could almost smell the warm rain.I fished Lough's Muck and Fee which are not too far from Leenane about 15 years ago and was told by ghillie Roy Pearce that the trout in these bog lakes don't grow overly large because of the acidic water caused by the peat.Stunning place though.See you on the river sometime.

The feller in the shop, where we bought our tickets, told us other stories; talking about three pounders in some lakes etc. Thank you for the comment and see you sometime; take care.

I reconize all those lakes as im from clifden, i fish them all the time, great video dietrich, id love to see more connemara fishing when everything is back to normal and you are able to travel down here, lough Nambrackkeagh is a very hard lake to fish the trick is to fish deep and slow there with big flies, great video and entertainment 😊

dave medlyn I’ve never heard of a “shite.”
      Good fight, or real “stinkers?”
Anytime fishing with Dietrich is bound to be a good time.

Beautiful locations and beautiful weather - 'orgasmic' seems to be a rival for the stunning wilds of Donegal ;-)

Hi dietrich this vid reminds me of a few mountain trout lakes near me but unfortunately i heard recently that pike have been illegally introduced into them and not just there but its been happening in other game fisheries aswell.
There seems to be an invisible war goin on between some pike anglers and game anglers.
It doesnt affect the pike but it is affecting the trout esp in mountain lakes that never had pike before. Pike have there rightful place and so do trout and in some waters they co exist v well but in small mountain lakes they cant.
V sad that these things happen

That pike stocking happens since a long time. The south Donegal trout lakes were stocked with pike in the late seventies or early eighties. The brown trout were gone in a few years altogether.

It certainly is Pat an unfortunately very hard to catch culpirits in the act. Pike can eat trout but trout dont eat pike so its the trout that suffer.

That last lake is a little gem, fish it a lot, magic at sunset, the fish are small, but stunningly marked. Unfortunately it gets hammered by tourist's who spin/worm and kill everything they catch!? You used to catch 20+ trout, some to a pound, now 4 small ones represent a good evenings work. Tragically this is happening in quite a few of the easily accessed lakes in the area...

You know the last lake? We never saw a local angler all week end......strange. The lakes at Toombeola are so beautiful, it was frustrating not getting even the sniff of a fish. I’m sure it was just one of those days. Three of them in a row lol. I’ll go back for sure. Do you know any of the lakes on Roundstone bog??

@@davemedlyn071 I fished a few if them over the years, a lot if them flatter to deceive. The better fishing is out toward Cleggan, Ballanakyll lake can be excellent, fish 3/4- 2lbs +, their is a boat available. Aughrus beg lake is another good spot, its brackish and very clear, beautiful looking trout.
