Hi Dietrich, lovely video,I could almost smell the warm rain.I fished Lough's Muck and Fee which are not too far from Leenane about 15 years ago and was told by ghillie Roy Pearce that the trout in these bog lakes don't grow overly large because of the acidic water caused by the peat.Stunning place though.See you on the river sometime.
The feller in the shop, where we bought our tickets, told us other stories; talking about three pounders in some lakes etc. Thank you for the comment and see you sometime; take care.
I reconize all those lakes as im from clifden, i fish them all the time, great video dietrich, id love to see more connemara fishing when everything is back to normal and you are able to travel down here, lough Nambrackkeagh is a very hard lake to fish the trick is to fish deep and slow there with big flies, great video and entertainment 😊
dave medlyn I’ve never heard of a “shite.” Good fight, or real “stinkers?” Anytime fishing with Dietrich is bound to be a good time. Dave Hutton Palmetto Fly n Fish
Hi dietrich this vid reminds me of a few mountain trout lakes near me but unfortunately i heard recently that pike have been illegally introduced into them and not just there but its been happening in other game fisheries aswell. There seems to be an invisible war goin on between some pike anglers and game anglers. It doesnt affect the pike but it is affecting the trout esp in mountain lakes that never had pike before. Pike have there rightful place and so do trout and in some waters they co exist v well but in small mountain lakes they cant. V sad that these things happen
That pike stocking happens since a long time. The south Donegal trout lakes were stocked with pike in the late seventies or early eighties. The brown trout were gone in a few years altogether.
@@Kitiwake It certainly is Pat an unfortunately very hard to catch culpirits in the act. Pike can eat trout but trout dont eat pike so its the trout that suffer.
That last lake is a little gem, fish it a lot, magic at sunset, the fish are small, but stunningly marked. Unfortunately it gets hammered by tourist's who spin/worm and kill everything they catch!? You used to catch 20+ trout, some to a pound, now 4 small ones represent a good evenings work. Tragically this is happening in quite a few of the easily accessed lakes in the area...
You know the last lake? We never saw a local angler all week end......strange. The lakes at Toombeola are so beautiful, it was frustrating not getting even the sniff of a fish. I’m sure it was just one of those days. Three of them in a row lol. I’ll go back for sure. Do you know any of the lakes on Roundstone bog??
@@davemedlyn071 I fished a few if them over the years, a lot if them flatter to deceive. The better fishing is out toward Cleggan, Ballanakyll lake can be excellent, fish 3/4- 2lbs +, their is a boat available. Aughrus beg lake is another good spot, its brackish and very clear, beautiful looking trout.
Fantastic road trip lads!!!! Let's f**k off says Dietrich as he scratches the living shite out of himself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fair play men but ye didn't hit Mask or Corrib!!!!!

Thank you, sir. Of course we would love to come back to Connemara after the restrictions are eased. Take care and stay safe.
Nice weekend outing, and I see Dave is still leading when heading for the pub. Thanks again.
Dave is a good beer drinker now.
Great weekend, shite fishing in fantastic locations.
I’ll go back sometime!!

Surely aye, we'll be at it soon enough now.
Classic stuff .. very entertaining, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you.
Great to be able to get out and about. Health is wealth and a good fish is a bonus.
And a good thirst a necessity. Thank you, Vincent.
Beautiful locations and beautiful weather - 'orgasmic' seems to be a rival for the stunning wilds of Donegal ;-)
That's right.
Two fishing buddies crammed into a wee camper for a few days! Has the makings for a fine comedy. Beautiful lands....should have gone Pike fishing!
Told Dave that it will be a pike weekend next time; he didn't like it one bit.
The weshttt is best :) guys you go all that way and not throw a line in corrib ! :)
We just wanted to have a look at the smaller lakes; they definitely have their charms.
Fishing with friend, almost as good as fish on the fly...good on you both...your friend on Oly Peninsula in Washington State, USA
Thank you, Lynn. Greetings from Donegal, Ireland.

they were all slaggin you about adding flavor (salt)....haha
Salt and butter, very important in any cooking, David.
What was the name of the area? Going to Connemara next week and looking to fish lakes that dont require licenses or expensive permits
That was the plain of lakes outside of Clifden.
Far off fields are often NOT greener boys. Very entertaining nonetheless!
That's right; but we just wanted to have a change of scenery.
Ah the pints looked good and that's what really matters.... yee get the fish next time
Hopefully, Henry, hopefully.
Dietrich "on the Bibio" Bonhorst
Must get my name changed to Dietrich von Bibio.
where is this please
What does a permit cost there?
10Euro/Day.
Is it free fishing??
No, you have to get a permit, available in Clifden and in Tumbeaola.
