I did not realise that the exposure adjustment works differently from all the other software that I have been using, and also did not realise that the tonal gradation tool also works differently. I will really need to explore OM Workspace a lot more as I have been using it just like I would have with Affinity Photo or Photolab 5. This is interesting. I don’t know if I want to dust off our very old and slow PC right now when I’m not yet shooting raw (I want to get better first). I guess I could get a Mac Mini at some point if I need a better computer. But they’re more expensive than they used to be. I’ve been doing everything on my iPad for quite a few years. I thought I’d bought my last pc. I’ve been using the OM-1 with the OI Share app and it works pretty nicely for what I need. It has some basic image editing functions. But it does allow you to select image styles if you want to, which I think is cool. It would be nice to see them incorporating the OM Workspace features into the app maybe. Or offer it as a separate App Store download. Also, regarding the EVF, I think the combination of your helpful tip and just using the camera a little while each day is helping my eyes adapt. So thank you for that :) I was worried I’d have to return or even sell it.

Thanks for another illuminating clip, Thomas. And it is also - like your other clips - so very, very valuable and easy to follow. I've already decided to bring back OM Workspace to my post-processing since your previous clip on rendering RAW files, but I'm getting far more confidence that its results are worth the effort of using two applications instead of one, to the benefit of my image quality. Interestingly, in Linux+WINE (if you're familiar with these), OMW is far more responsive to use.
@@ThomasEisl.Photography I'll be happy to. Just today, I checked-out a very contrasty image with deep shadows. OMW did a great job of dealing with the shadow. ON1 made a mess of it. Pulling the TIFF exported from OMW into ON1 yielded better results than OMW alone, and ON1 alone.
Very impressive! I usually just over- or underexpose about one or two stops when I mess things up a bit. In DxO PL I use local adjustments like a gradient filter to fix blown out parts if my global adjustments created any. The nonlinear exposure compensation looks even easier! As I use OM Workspace to import my images, I will try this as an alternative next time for comparison.

Love your videos! Do you really think that workspace is the best tool for OM Systems, compared to others like Adobe , DXO, Onone ? I find that it is not as intuitive as some other programs.

Most welcome! I don't recall which card I used to be honest, but upgrading yours will sure help. You should also try USB processing, it might be the "free" solution.

My question is this, I use Nikon NX studio, it looks very similar to OM workspace, I assume gradation function is like Active D-Lighting in NX studio and that the exposure compensation tool works in the same manner as OM Workspace in terms of how it compresses highlights and shadows ?
Hi there! Active D-Lighting is indeed very similar to the Gradation feature. It is not 100% identical, but very similar, as you've said. Nikon NX Studio is an excellent RAW converter, I use it as well when I shoot with my Nikon D800. Best, Thomas
Very nice and helpful video! One question: My copy of OM Workspace has the Histogram shadows set to 5 and highlights set to 251 (the default, I think). Do you recommend changing that to 0 and 255 as you have in the video?
Many thanks David! This is not that easy to answer - the way I work, I really like that as it will help me to get the maximise the DR / gradation. If I have it set to 5 / 250 for example, I get the clipping warning a bit too early for my taste, as there are still 8 steps for each channel before full black / white. I will provide a video on that in the future!
Thank you for the video. I am using om workspace for most of my photos and so far it was not clear how the shadow and highlights recovery works. It seems that there is different approach than Lightroom. The shadow and highlights section is closer to blacks and white slider of Lightroom and in order to get better shadows we need to combine gradation and tone curves. This combination makes things a bit more complicated for beginners. I will keep using om workspace as I really like the colour reproduction

Yes! I've tried to use highlight slider in OM Workspace couple of times to get rid of highlights, but they just became grey (very disappointing). Now I will try the algorithm of this video and I'm very optmistic about it!

No it does not - I export 16-bit TIFFs to Affinity Photo for local adjustments. The combo works very well for me.

Yes, although I would recommend using affinity photo as a second tool instead of Lightroom, but yes, that works and is actually what I do.
If I process the RAW files in OM Workspace, can I continue RAW editing in DXO Photolab 6 while keeping the adjustments I made in OM Workspace?
Unfortunately not, you would have to export the file as TIFF or JPEG and then work with the next editor. (No longer RAW data in this case)

Yes, it works great, I'd say. I myself don't use it as I like a bit of "grain" but I'm glad the function exists. Do you use it?

Ah alright. I would not worry about that - it really is not necessary to get outstanding results. It's a bonus, but not a necessity.
