My fave part from the livestream is when Rod says “We don’t have loading screens, because life doesn’t have loading screens” and gives a cheeky grin to the camera 😂😂 Edit: Thanks for the likes. And, more importantly, I’d like to echo something on the comment thread: TS2 came out in the early 2000s, when tech was less advanced and computers less able to handle open world games. So, anyone giving flak to Rod for the loading screens comment and saying “Oh? But he did TS2! And there’s loading screens in TS4!” … y’all need to rethink that statement.
Then my question is how slow will ge game run and for what computers are they gonna work on? I mean sims could just remove the loading screens if they wanted but theyre there for a reason yk-
@@jadeebananas And improved on it in the Sims 3. He acknowledged when they were making TS3 that open world is more realistic which is why they implemented it
@@Jauhelihakeitto recommended specs include a GPU with 6gb VRAM, an i5 or Ryzen 5, and 16gb RAM. Personally I'm glad to see it. Sims already caters to the lowest common denominator in terms of specs, I'd rather get a life sim that's designed to be played on gaming rigs.
I'm not the biggest fan of the graphics, that's why I love Sims 4 so much, it's due to its more cartoony style but still It's exciting to have more than one life simulator 👀
@wuvyyyyy if you're referring to cities' skylines, i'm aware of that. however, they did publish it, and there's definitely a chance that they got some people from colossal to work on life by you
this is SO interesting to me. im the type of person who gets a little overwhelmed by TOO much customization, so this honestly doesnt look as appealing to me as what the sims is right now, but im definitely intrigued. im interested to see how it's gonna change in the next year so im keeping an eye on it. it would be so cool to see more general life sim content besides just the sims because this genre of game is up my alley!!!
I get overwhelmed too!! If there’s too many options to customize something I’ll take ages to get anything done and just keep changing a little detail over and over so it’s “perfect”
I'm the same way. I get so overwhelmed when there's too many things. Sometimes I just like the game to have some type of limits. Hopefully it's not so overwhelming. Sometimes I just wanna relax and play.
Same, but honestly I’m not sure if they really intend for the everyday person to use all of the custom options. I wonder if they looked at things like Roblox, Minecraft adventure maps, and even the new Fortnite creative mode and decided to give the most power possible for people like those mod makers and mapmakers. I’m super excited for when it’s a year+ past release and all the talented world builders have created beautiful custom worlds with in-depth stories I can explore.
visually i like the sims 4 the best. paralives looks good too. i definitely agree with kayla that hyper-realistic doesn’t age well and can lean uncanny. i just like a more cartoon look anyway. the maxis design is cute and i prefer it personally. i do hope that having competition will push ea to up their game
I think the lighting of the game is why the realism of it looks off. Like the actual game looks realistic but the lighting throws off the look in my opinion because it doesn’t look realistic.
@@smwatertasteslikewater i was agreeing with simsie. she talked in the video about having more games in the genre. this game specifically has a bigger company backing it as well, (not to say it’s not still made by indie devs) but i think it’s important to have more than one type of game when something gets popular. rn sims 4 is really the only one of its kind and can do whatever it wants. having competition (indie or otherwise) pushes innovation and creativity into the space. clearly the indie devs are making their own games and being innovative in their own ways anyway, since their games are unique and life sims lend themselves to being very open to interpretation so i’m curious to see where they go after they launch. the only similarities between the three games is that they are life sims.
I wish the sims 4 would’ve released a pack for elders with the Growing together pack. I want there to be retirement homes with bingo nights, funerals, choices to bury loved ones in a cemetery (the same way you get the choice to birth in a hospital), parks for elders etc. Also want a feature that will give them the choice to enter into a retirement home when they become elderly (similar way college students get to live in dorms). The retirement home should also allow visiting hours for the sims who have kids or just family/friends. Idk these are all just suggestions. A world dedicated to retirees and elderly would be appreciated. Elderly sims deserve love too!
I love how you say elders deserve love too and half the features you mention are related to dying, lmao. I get your point tho, it would be really nice to have proper graveyards
Out of all the things you listed, I would like only bingo nights, and even this sounds a bit cringe. Because in reality as well as in the game, elders can have any hobbies, do most sports, choose to continue their career, live with their family or solo, travel, etc. Not giving them exclusive treatment means true anti-ageism imo.
@@Kyokka I understand what you mean, but no 80 year old is out here snowboarding or going snorkelling. I guess with newly retirees doing all sorts of stuff is still possible, but I am talking about elderly elderly. I’m asking for retirement homes for the realism, a world mostly catered to elderly people (and of course other activities besides bingo is allowed) so that their story doesn’t just end after the adult stage.
@@dokchampa9324 lol. I also want a feature that will give them the choice to enter into a retirement home when they become elderly (similar way college students get to live in dorms). The retirement home should also allow visiting hours for the sims who have kids or just family/friends. Idk
They did show some kids but in the cah they did show where you can select an age but yeah definitely I want to see how they act and interact with the world
When they showed editing an object, it had 'interaction properties' and these were the life stages on there: Baby, Toddler, Child, Teen, Adult & Elder! On their Early Access Q&A, it says "Children are not currently fully implemented in game so we see improvements here, including further developing children and adding more content for them as Early Access progresses."
@JackWrath488Why spend so much time commenting on a bunch of her videos and comments saying the same thing over and over again, and not just use that time getting attention for your channel in a better way lol, nobody that’s a fan of hers is gonna look at your comment and go “oh wow, his channels better” lol, instead they’re gonna think you’re a prick 😂
@@theseusjpeg The bot actually has the hakenkreuz in it's pfp. The swastika originates from Buddhism and is used as a symbol of peace. Nazis stole the swastika and turned it into a hate symbol hence why using a different name for it (aka hakenkreuz) is more appropriate. Please try to use hakenkreuz instead as calling it a swastika could mislead people into thinking Buddhism is associated with nazis. Thanks!
this is only interesting to me if the super customization like micromanaging stuff is not always needed. this needs to be optional. i don't want to always put that amount of creativity/effort into something, that seems tiring. it's cool, the realism and animations are a bit off to me at the moment, feels like imvu in a not too positive way. but it really has potential it seems.
I agree; a simpler mode is needed, and let a person turn on these options. I do love Paradox games, but (at least in their grand strategy games) there can be a huge learning curve. That could turn off a lot of casual gamers (but of course a dream come true for creators and hard-core gamers).
@@truthseeker4470 yes exactly. It might be interesting to me to have such immense control after getting to known the game for a while, but I'd enjoy it more to start exploring it in a simpler way
What i think the sims has above this game is charm. Things like the plumbob, the grimreaper, freezerbunny, llamas, grilled cheese, etc. are things that make the game so unique. Games like life by you seem so... soul less. I love all the customisation but for now it seems more like a tool rather than a game. But this can (and probably will) change with time. But like Paralives has a charm to it, so its not that it's a newly announced game thats not out that makes it seem so sterile
Yes I think it’s soulless. You will propose and your ‘sim’ will get on one knee and then you’ll get a tick in a box. No propose on bridge over river of lanterns or at a village fair or on a mountain.. no emotion, no heart. Just bars and numbers.
you've put what I keep thinking into words I couldn't put my finger on! It seems like it's too hard on being realistic and having all these features but I'm like... okay, what's the gameplay? Where's the personality?
Yes, this is exactly what I had trouble wording! I like not controlling everything in the world when I play the Sims. I think ppl being able to make worlds is amazing for those interested, but for me, I'd only be in it for playing a select few humans in a world made by someone else because I straight up don't have the time or energy to customize everything. Most of these features are unappealing to me as I don't care about everything in the world being changeable, and that's fine. Not even to mention my gripes with the style and animations or the fact I doubt I'd be able to run it. It won't be Sims killer that's for sure. As you said; it feels like more of a tool. Its committing very hard to realism, but still its good competition. More well-made life sims being made is nothing but a good thing.
I'm definitely intrigued by this, but I'm also really hesitant. I think it's mostly just because we don't have a whole lot of info yet. But, from what we have it just looks so customizable that it would be super overwhelming to my as a player. It definitely has some feature that could be really useful for specific types of gameplay, but none of those are really how I prefer to play, at least in the sims realm. So, I definitely will be keeping my eye on it, but I'm going to need more info before I decide if I'm going to play it myself or not
@@layelee going off the trailer, it looks like those tools will be in game. Also just “not using the tools” doesn’t always work. Sims 3 create a style comes to mind. Because you could make any texture they half assed the base swatches making it hard to just make a simple house that looked good quickly. This game seems like it’s relying on players to create their own perfect game which is bold for a game with no built in audience. People who don’t feel like creating their own dialogue, buildings etc. will have to rely on there being enough players to give them what they want
With all the levels of customization, I feel like you might really be able to create your own world. Like if you wanted a medieval, fantasy, sci fi, etc, you can edit the world and even how everyone speaks. Kinda really excited about this, just hope my computer can run it!
Right Sako! I want to be able to make dragons and pixies and such things. Not just humans. Maybe worst case scenarios be able to place a pet version like Pete's dragon right in your sim?
@@christinesimula3942 I want that too, lol. I love more fantasy/medieval themes and currently its a bit of work to set that up on Sims (and still no fairies yet in 4). I just feel like, okay I already live in a modern world, let me play live somewhere else😆
I agree with what plumbella says, it looks like GTA. But since the trailer came out everyone has expressed concerns about the art style, so they know it needs to be addressed.
@HopeIsADrug Bruh early access is September of this year! I'm sure it's not finished then. But I don't think it's going to change that much graphically or else they wouldn't have shown it off
I'm excited, but honestly, it feels kinda overwhelming. Seems like a mix between IMVU or Second Life and The Sims. I'm doubtful about XP system and the whole "make your own conversations" bc it looks like too much work and I guess they'd just repeat over and over again, the bubbles with icons just work better since imagination works for every context, but I guess that depends on your gameplay style. It also looks like they're giving us a bunch of treats again and I personally just want the points system from The Sims 2 back, it gave Sims waaay more personality than the traits, but I guess we'd have to wait to see how this one works.
100% agree!!! some times, trying to make a game look realistic works: like the RE series and TLoU, for example- they look nice (to me, at least). and even The Sims Medieval, because although it is used w/ the Sims 3 graphics, which aged like milk, Medieval has some style to it and doesn't worry too much in "looking" like reality. the problem is, as Kayla said, when they get stuck on the uncanny valley; having an art style is always (to me) going to be better than trying to look too real.
i’m excited, but very tentatively excited. i’m always scared with new simulation games because i feel like they sometimes fall through. i’m really hoping this continues to be developed
It will definitely be released. I can't imagine them dropping this project now, just a few months from release, when they've been working on it behind the scenes for years. It would be a massive waste of resources if they did, so I wouldn't worry about it being published.
To be honest, even though Life by You can be really interesting to play and have nice features, I can't get past the graphic style, to me it looks almost like The Sims 1, it seems outdated :( I really love the cartoonish style of The Sims 4, so I don't think I will play this one. But amazing work from the devs!
That’s exactly what I was thinking too! Like man this feels like really 2010’s for the sims lovers who made whole stories online with their sims in the sims 3.
@@Vikkilatterman That was me, I made up and posted my Sims 3 stories, a chapter or two per week. It was a great time killer and such a great vent for creativity, I made some great friends too! 👍🏻☺️
There are at least two ex-Sims employees that are working on this game that we know of. So I think this game will definitely give The Sims a run for it's money. Competition will finally push the The Sims team to make their games better.
That placing down of lots was a huge feature in The Sims 2, and is a feature I miss in The Sims 4, because it allowed for so much more customizations of neighborhoods. I loved that you could create your own neighborhoods and worlds, place the lots and decorations yourself, and add in all of the details. You could even import from Sim City which was great.
I’m super concerned about performance. I feel like if you try to do a legacy or run a lot of ‘humans’ in one save, all the customization is going to absolutely tank performance. I’m also super not into the art style. It has a Second Life/Alpha CC vibe and it’s so unappealing to me. I really like the customization options and how much power it will let us have over it. We’ll see how it develops
...I can't get over how damn DERPY the characters look. It's borderline creepy, if it isn't already. Unfortunately, visuals are a HUGE part of a game for me, particularly for those where customization for the characters is a core aspect. This so far seems like it'll fall under the Sims 3 umbrella for me - the gameplay might be pretty dang good...but if I can't get my characters to look good, I just can't get into it. Really hope that they work on the graphics much more before release. They could also do with maybe toning down the 'blur' when it comes to lighting ;;
In The Sims Freeplay you can switch between any sim in any household and it’s a really amazing feature and something I’d love to have in a future Sims game. It brings a lot more depth to the game IMO. I mean if your main household is socially awkward or unflirty but you still want them to romance someone it’s weird to have to have them do ALL the flirting but maybe you don’t want to switch into another household or be forced to play their whole family too.
I wish they used a similar art style as Crusader Kings 3, I love how characters look in that game. And speaking of crusader kings, personality traits are crucial in that game, they really make a huge impact, and crusader kings isn’t even a life sim game, so I can’t wait to see how fleshed out the personality of the “sims” of this game will be. Like, in crusader kings if your son is sadistic and ambitious he will 100% attempt to murder his older brothers and eventually you to become the new king. The sims 4 traits could never.
I'm wondering how much CK III might influence this. It would be cool if they did a mod/expansion pack that helped you re-create your court from CK III.
From the trailer, I feel like Life By You is likely going to be more of a sandbox type of simulation game than the Sims or Paralives would be. Which isn't bad, but might not be the kind of game I'd look for- So I'm skeptical. Mainly what gives me this thought is the whole, easy switch between humans, the custom dialogue (how is the AI supposed to interact with that??), and the fact you basically can fully customize the town.
Hmm, there's definitely such a thing as too customizable. It gets exhausting and annoying to play. Gonna be very interesting to see how this game turns out though
It would be nice if they have a random settings playstyle as well as customizable style. That way if you just want to play the hand you're dealt you can play it or if you want to tweak everything you can do that too.
I think I’ll have to get used to the graphics- what does excite me are all the possibilities they’re giving in the BASE GAME. It’s the way they thought about every little detail
I love this so much already. The amount of customisation is insane. So many traits, realistic jobs, being able to determine the household funds, that's insane. They have skateboards? Not even tS3 had that!! And I love the dialogues, I've always wished the sims had more in-game dialogue. I know the graphics are a bit clunky but I personally prefer the realistic style anyways over the cartoonish Sims 4 look
I really hope the dialogue customization is shareable. It's weird but I'd love to share a story or scenario without like a full mod or job or something. So I could make a period or historical story that has like a story direction instead of the sims where I just change the vibe a bit
The thing about Life By You and all these other hyperrealistic simulation games is that they're seem to be run by the same 3D engine that makes it look like a lot of assets they used are from different websites shoved into one and the lighting is super striking that makes everything feels a little bit glossy that throws off the feel of the game tbh, with Sims 4, it took the opposite direction and is super cartoony, in which I really like but that is just subjective and people do crave realism. IDK the game looks promising but at the same time, is not my cup of tea. With life simulation games, I crave something that is out of the ordinary, (just like cowplants, variations of occults, and other wacky stuff unique to each Sims game.) and not the same old generic stuff that is available in your everyday life if you know what I mean. That's what The Sims advantage is, its quirkiness, its silliness even in the previous installments made it the best without even trying. It also doesn't help with the fact that some of us life simulation gamers does not really want to invest on a new computer just to play a singular game. Hopefully they'll adjust the portability because if this continues it will literally only just gatekeep the game from players in general. P.S. Paralives is a mix of both and I'm excited for that one more.
To me, this is giving very much sim city vibes where you control an entire city vs a single sim. Sim City was my FAV and this is sooo in depth! I’m excited!!
@@truthseeker4470 I have not! But I just looked it up and it looks awesome. Apparently City Skylines II is coming this year? Adding it to my wishlist for sure. Thanks for sharing!
IMO they're promising so much I have little faith in it being as in depth as I think people think it'll be and the people don't even look modern to me, they look way outdated already, like they're decked out in early alpha cc. I'm personally really skeptical tbh EDIT: I also worry about how it performs- I know that open worlds are something that a lot of people want but personally I prefer a game more people can play over that tbh
youre like the only person ive seen with the same stance on this as me. it looks like a doomed kickstarter game i really dont think this will end well. id like to be pleasantly surprised but yeah im not getting my hopes up. also it needs 16gb of ram and looks like that so i think the performance is gonna be awful lol
@@FissionCube same, agree. I definitely don’t think this is gonna be as good as people expect it to be. And the “realistic” style is off putting to me. Even if they have everything they promised I am almost certain there’s gonna be a paywall behind every little thing.
@@gothmissstress Umm rod humble who was the producer of the sims 2 is heavily involved with this game + paradox has a reputation for making their games extremely deep when it comes to gameplay and not locking things behind a paywall unlike EA. Do some more research before jumping to conclusions.
Honestly I’m so tired of people whining about games with this big of a scope not being able to run on their shitty little chrome book. This is why we’re not seeing any innovation when it comes to life sim games because EA is greedy and they want their game to be able to run on mobile. Do the developers of GTA 6 care if their game can run on rickety laptops? No, they don’t because they want to actually make an expansive content filled game.
@Michael Bonetti Yeah the audience for casual life sims isn't the same audience as GTA6. The people that play life sims ARE the people playing games on "rickety laptops" - the sims 3 is infamous because it was so hard to run for the typical player. Making a game with wild requirements for a largely casual gamer player base is 100% a stupid move that's shooting yourself in the foot and shows a lack of understanding for your core player base.
I almost never pre order but I pre ordered life by you. I trust paradox and the level of customization means people are going to be making whole new games inside life by you. Plus I often feel restricted by sims and it’s T rating so I’m excited to see what kind of stories I can make here.
I know everyone is talking about charm and lore, and I agree for sure, but something to keep in mind is that Sims has had 20+ years to develop charm and lore. I kinda don't mind if there's not an insane amount of lore and charm right away because those types of things tend to take time to develop in a game like this, y'know?
The fact that the sims now has competition with this game and paralife. This is the best thing that could happen for the sims I hope to see a better product and competitive pricing from the sims moving forward with sims 5
My first thought with the custom dialogue is that rather than uploading just lots or rooms, you would be able to upload your entire world. I would be super stoked if I could make a town with my own storyline for my friend to play and vice versa!
I'm genuinely so excited for this game! Sadly I don't think my pc would run it well (it barely runs the sims with how much mods/cc I have LMAO) but I absolutely cannot wait to see early access footage/gameplay from content creators and such :D
I'm really excited for Life By You (I preordered it the day the trailer dropped)! The one thing I'm a bit concerned about is the lore and the soul of the game. As other people mentioned, one big part of what makes The Sims franchise so fun is its quirkiness and its storytelling. For example, the Goth family and Bella's disappearance. Or the Social Bunny and Tragic Clown. Or the Crumplebottoms' tragedy and handbag-smacking. Or cowplants and piranha ponds. These things all create a more immersive experience beyond just telling your own stories. I'm excited for Life By You's depth of creative potential, but I hope it has some of its own personality, rather than just being a movie-directing tool, so to speak. It doesn't have to be quirky like The Sims, but I hope it has something that gives it some depth and personality. Right now, The Sims 3 is my fav game in this genre, and I'm curious if Rod and the team's expertise can create something that lives up to that or if it will fall a bit flat. Also, re: replacing The Sims franchise: I don't think that will happen unless The Sims 5 totally flops (and I think EA is really trying to avoid that). Yes, Paradox's Cities: Skylines totally replaced the SimCity franchise, but it was more of a nail in the coffin after SimCity 2013 was a total disaster. If SimCity 2013 had ended up being a better game, I think SimCity and Cities: Skylines would have been competing but complementary franchises, and that's what I'm presuming will happen here with The Sims and Life By You.
Open world means no loading screens, yes you can switch between humans (this is how you see it in the trailer) you can advance like 10 years if you want. and much more they give us the tools they used to create the game. you really should watch the compleet announcement trailer with Rod himself. if you haven't already oh and have you seen the half tile wall placement. I did pre-order it I'm pretty confident that my PC can run it.
I’m definitely worried about the proportions and slotting of furniture, around 14 min there was floating furniture, and the kitchen counters were short, other than that it seems like a very good sandbox-style life sim with very good story telling abilities
I'm excited for this new game. I did pre-order it because I faithfully play cities skylines just as much as I play ts4 so I am quite confident that the game will come out and that it will at least be the same quality as cities skylines, if not better. And to be able to get and maintain early access until the game drops sounds like a great deal to me.
I think my biggest issue right now is that they seem to be pushing a "we are better and will replace the sims" vibes from marketing. It turns me off from the game as a whole because I wish game companies understood that these games can co-exist without fighting. Each game can bring its own uniqueness to the table without trying to end the other franchise. The Sims obviously will still be around and not die off due to this game, I just with marketing wasn't as aggressive with their "hey look what the sims failed you on, and what we do waaayyy better". I don't know, it just feels shady.
I agree, and I think that it's also bad from a game design standpoint. You can't just be "better than the sims" you have to actually offer something unique to the player.
Lol like EA isn’t literally the shadiest company ever. They deserve to go bankrupt and I hope paradox blows them out of the water like they did with cities skylines. Meanwhile you can enjoy paying 40$ for “expansion” packs that come with minimal boring content.
I honestly don't care because EA should be ashamed of themselves. The whole disappointment with The Sims 4 is unacceptable. Every time I turn around people are always complaining about that game, but somehow still spend their money. EA has Sims 4 players so desperate for content that they have became happy about any and everything.
@@michaelbonetti5463 that won't happen, and you know it. I just hope no people have my Sims 3 experience with this game - buy it and not being able to run it, although it looks like it will happen
Yea, huge agree. This same thing happens within a small corner of the Pokemon community. A game gets called a "Pokemon Killer," and it never makes waves because "killing" a billion-dollar franchise is simply not a realistic goal. (Except for a few cases like Simcity, which I believe EA dropped the ball harder on than they have for The Sims 4). As much as people want EA to go bankrupt, it won't happen. And if it does, this game won't be why.
im def interested in the opportunity for a new life sim with some more customization options but I'm not a fan of the photo realistic quality of the game of it would be something I'm looking at the whole time so that itself may keep me from wanting to play. but I am interesting in free lot placement and item customization. I think, when comparing it to the sims, the game hasn't been able to describe to me any of the things that have me interested in the sims such as the actual lifestyle gameplay. There is a lot of customization for business and building and interactions but for me in really interested in how deeply I can engage with a family or things like cooking and farming. I would love to see how they are approaching that so ill definitely be sticking around to see how it plays.
What I have seen of this so far, it feels very overwhelming to me because there is so much stuff you can custom-create. I think this would be stressful for me personally.
Have you heard of SecondLife? This reminds me of a very old old old version of SecondLife lol. Which is a very open world, custom, live, advanced graphic version of the sims
It is absolutely astounding that the Sim still has no competitors despite being such a successful collection of games specific to a genre that has endless potential. If nothing else, I hope a game comes to truly challenge the Sim hegemony over life simulations.
A lot of people get graphics (which is mostly based on YOUR pc) and art style confused. TS3 worlds were and still are beautiful to look at. It was just the art style they chose for the actual sims was not very good. I always used custom content to fix that, though.
I am interested but not preordering. I need to see gameplay specifically family game play. I also will need to upgrade my laptop if I even want to play so there's that too. I am not a fan of the graphics or animations, but they said they are working on improving that. I don't like the super realistic looking characters either. I am also worried that they are focusing too much on customizing everything that the vanilla/base game isn't going to be fleshed out. I am not that interested in going in and having to customize everything myself. I hope there's some sort of gallery where we can use other people creations. Anyways I will keep my eye on it and look forward to more of you covering the game! :)
I totally agree with everything Kayla said about comparison. I love stardew and animal crossing, even tho vibes are similar, bc they’re different games with different things. I do think tho, if your game’s advertising is directly comparing features that you’ll have that other games don’t, you are kind of anticipating comparison. You’re opening up that can of worms. It’s kinda snarky bc by that logic, I could play the sims 3 with a color wheel, world creation, and an open world. I’m more interested in how this game stands alone, not what features they have that EAs current game doesn’t. Because if it’s just “im not the sims 4”, why not wait for project Renee (sims 5), or play the sims 3? I have my own gripes with EA and could argue that expansions and bugs have made it so I want to play new games. I guess my point is that I don’t want to love this game just because of what EA has or hasn’t done. I want to love this game because of what paradox does with it
@@layelee exactly, but the game still has to stand alone regardless of who’s working on it or what it’s doing better than EA. Just bc someone is working on it who knows what they’re doing doesn’t mean it’ll be implemented well, and the comparisons mean nothing if they aren’t executed well. Like If this game is supposedly better because it has an open world, then it should be able to run well. TS3 had problems with being able to do that without lag which is why TS4 isn’t open world. But if you’re only comparing it from the lens of TS4 isn’t open world, this is, you’re not getting the whole picture. Does it run well, is it fun gameplay, for the price will it be worth it? It has to stand alone regardless of the names associated or what other games are in its genre. But people are going to compare the games bc of how it’s being advertised and who is working on it, which could impact things negatively. Because if it comes out ppl are going to say “the sims 4 has a better character design” “the sims 4 is less laggy” “why not just play the sims 3 if this games primary features are that of TS4”. It has to do well without that connection to EA
Paradox Tectonic is a subsidiary of Paradox Interactive, they aren't starting from scratch in terms of resources, and they've also been working on this game under the radar for three years already (The studio was founded in 2019, and Rod Humble's been involved from the very start, this is very much his studio) Early Access in December of this year doesn't surprise me at all. (also as a writer/storyteller and a game dev/modder myself, I am incredibly hyped by the modding support/built in editing tools)
It's an awesome concept, and the customisation is so unique in that I think will appeal to many. My worry is similar to yours, in that the graphics are not up my personal street. It reminds me of Second Life / Early 2000s life simulation games and frankly, they age really quickly. I loveee Sims 4 cartoon graphics as the majority of the time, it doesn't look like a 2014 game, it ages well in terms of graphics. Plus, it provides great escapism as it's not so real to life (sort of take it back slightly with the infant update haha). I hope it does well though, any new game is positive and hopefully will remind EA that they won't always have a captive market.
I'm glad you talked about the specs thing; because that was running through my mind while watching the trailer - because that's an accessibility issue. I confess I'm not super hyped to play this - the visual are not really my style - but I hope the competition leads to EA stepping up their game and am super excited to see what you and other creators will do with this.
This could be way off, but do you guys remember/know of that like be game where you can like be a worker at a job. Maybe this game is like that where you really just control like one “sim” (character 🤨) at a time and then do certain things. For example, if your at work, you might have to walk to the copy room, print pages, and attend a meeting. All while maintaining the needs and whims of your character. Hope this made sense, but once again I could be completely off lol.
Thanks for your video on this, Kayla. Very interesting. I would definitely love for you to do more videos on this and hoping that you get early early access to give us a sneak peek :) I don't think my old laptop will be able to download the game but it looks like something I'd love to play so maybe one day in the future I can afford a better machine. Thanks, as always, for keeping us all up to date :)
Yeah I’m worried about the spec requirements, I probably won’t be able to play this. We’ll see, but it looks really cool! And I agree about the art style, but it might change a bit!
I defo think the focus on this was what the Sims has dropped the ball on. Gameplay, depth and customisation. There are some really great inclusions and i definitely want to preorder this just to give it a shot ❤
The game looks like it has so much depth and detail I love that. I am a little put off by the lighting of the game? Hopefully they make it a little warmer and less shadowy. 😅
Having played earlier Sims games, and Cities Skylines, where open lot placement has been used, I can say that placing a lot anywhere is not something that really excites me all that much. There tends to be a lot of annoying things associated with being able to place a lot anywhere, and that includes: not being able to line things up exactly as you might want, having to deal with annoying or hilly terrain which prevents pre-built lot placement unless it is edited (which isn't the easiest thing to do, especially when you want to get to playing), and not being able to edit the lot properly because of the terrain, etc. Also, the terrain may look good from the close-up view, but then not good in the worldview. So, most people will likely end up with flat, boring looking worlds because those kinds of worlds will make lot placement and building easier. And, if not this, then they will be downloading entire worlds with lots on them because they won't want to or won't have time to do all of that extreme editing themselves. It will likely lead to a less creative experience for the average player. However, the traits look great! I like that you can determine their childhood, and other things. It really will make you feel like you know the "human" better before playing with them. I also really love the conversation creator and I'm interested in what kinds of conversations it will generate, and how unique each person's game will be with interesting dialogue strings downloaded from other players. I agree with not liking graphics that look overly realistic or that look pasted on. Still, the graphics are not as big of a concern for me because if the gameplay is good enough, I will easily be able to look past that. I'm more concerned about the lot issues that will likely happen because these problems do currently exist in Cities Skylines. Having said all of that, I'm not an expert builder in Cities Skylines, I'm just an average player. However, with Sims, I play it much more and I tend to like personalized builds that serve different gameplay functions, sometimes you can't find exactly what you want on the gallery, and thinking about doing this on a game like the one presented from Paradox has me a little worried. Still, I'm excited to see more games like The Sims because I love these kinds of games. I'm just hoping they really work out all of the kinks.
I know that many simmers don't like realistic graphics, and that's cool. We still have The Sims 4 and eventually The Sims 5. However, for those of us who've been wanting and waiting for a life-sim game with realistic NextGen graphics, we couldn't be more excited!
OMG, I couldn't agree more! I love TS4 but, Ive always hated the cartoony look. I hope Life By You goes with a more Street Fighter 6 look. I think that is the perfect combo between realistic and cartoony.
true but also this game just dosent look good lol. Not yet atleast. I dont think the humans look realistic and at some points in the video it looks like a old ps game. Does not look like nextgen graphics to me.
@@missacat5027 I agree but, it's far from finished. I'm sure because it's Paradox and I believe they are using (Unreal Engine) the graphics will look amazing and polished by the time the game is fully finished.
It's really interesting to see a game try to provide a bridge for people who want to mod but can't wrap their heads or don't have the time to build that skill for heavily modding and thereby influencing their own games. This is making it accessible for those who normally can't. It reminds me of 2 games- SimTown which was kind of a cross between The Sims and full SimCity customization, you could pop in to any individual Sims life and read about them but also have control of the entire town. It also reminds me of Write Camera Action where you get to provide a full script and then watch your movie. It's really drawing on letting people be creative in the way they want most and seems to allow as much or as little control as you want- which is pretty exciting just to have the availability.
What I'd like to know is that will there be any historical, fantastical, scifi, horror, steampunk etc. stuff in it? If there's nothing similar to occults in the Sims this would immediately seem only mildly interesting to me, no matter how great the world customization etc. is. Which seems sad. Personally I just really enjoy the combination of mundane/realistic things and magical/unrealistic things. I'm sure someone would immediately mod some little adjustments like say elf ears but I'd like to see some actual gameplay mechanics, story, and animation for those type things. Oh well, perhaps there might be a dlc in the future
You'll have that one way or another. Either it's so customizable that you, or modders can make spellcasting a reality, and certainly the world itself and lore, or the company will be making money off DLC like that. My thought is that since every 3D object in the game can be edited and scripted to be whatever you want, our people probably can be too. They give the players the same exact tools they used to create the game, so possibilities seem endless.
They probably will add Supernatural elements to the game in DLC. That wouldn't be something that would be base game in any life simulations, just so people who want it can add it, and others who prefer a more realistic gameplay won't have it in their game.
It's like a mix of all the Sims games. The real conversations and one sim at a time controls remind me of the sims 2 on ds, which is a hotel builder game. The colour wheel from sims 3. And the time a task needs to take from sims free play. I think a lot of it comes from the sims free play acutely. Like the customising of the world. The ability to work in an office you've made . Xp, achievements/ the challenges they were talking about
I don't think I'm gonna preorder it, but I'd be super interested in more videos about it so I can see more and decide whether I want to play it eventually.
I’ve been very interested in paralives but I think that won’t be out for a few more years. This definitely looks interesting but I think paralives looks better. I think I will still check this one out though
Fun fact! The placing houses etc part is actually the exact same thing you could do in the Sims 2 without needing a "lot grid" if that makes sense. Didn't matter the size, shape, you could just place a lot down.
@@Jauhelihakeitto sort of. You had to place a grid down for a building to go down in the Sims 3. In the Sims 2 you could just take a pre made build and put it on the ground.
They did show in the trailer quite some stuff about the currency. When it was showing the "create a human", it said that the job paid 120 or something (for everyone, which I thought was funny). Also, I remember a vase costing 25. It's also not like The Sims 2 in that feature of spending money to take down walls, you just get the money back like in the other Sims games. What I also noticed was a square on the top right corner saying the money you originally had, the money you spent/saved and the money you would get in the end, which I think is pretty cool. The windows cost 600 or 300 (there's one that's 5000 though😶) so I imagine it depends on the size as well. Most of the houses were 210 and the prices varied on the vehicles. Also, it's likely that the clothes system will be like the one in The Sims 2 (you can choose the clothes you have in the beginning but you have to pay to get more). Now my opinion: This game looks way too ambitious. I think that a moderate amount of dlc wouldn't be so bad, cause this sounds like it's gonna blow some computers. Also a bit nervous about the "create your town" because a lot of people just want to jump right in and play without having to create a house, so I really hope there's presets and townies. The last thing to say is a warning about pre-order. Sometimes it can be a trap, so do some research and see what is actually real and what's not.
honestly it looks a lot like the sorta thing Paradox games are known for ime: lots of finicky systems and moving parts that just make the game feel clunky to play. hopefully I'll be wrong (and either way, yay competition for TS4 and EA dear gods)
The cooking scene is what gets me that guy is so tall compared to everything else like how many people are just as tall as their fridge? But I am excited.
Definitely will be playing this one (in addition to Sims). Guess that means I'll be buying DLC for two games now **bank account screams**. I have read the graphics and animations aren't done yet and Paradox are expecting Life By You to remain in early access for at least a year. Also wondering what other life simulation games may be in the pipeline right now. I suspect the recent developments have a lot to do with Unreal & Unity making life simulation games much easier to develop, now that a custom game engine is no longer required which I'm pretty excited about as it's been my firm belief that life simulation games of this calibre should be a genre, not just one game. Looks like that is finally happening and while Sims will always be the original franchise and a very important part of the genre, it will be nice to have some variety.
Well first about customization, the game will ship ready to play. You don’t need to customize. Those tools are for use by modders to share with the community. Paradox loves it’s modders. Cities:Skylines has over 300k modded items for it on Steam Play. Modding is encouraged. With the system that is set up most likely mod’s won’t break with updates as they are highly tuned into the game system. When Cities updates there is no need to remove your mods. Whilst they will tweak the graphics as Ron said during the live stream, it’s important to remember that EA/Maxis likely has a patent on the cartoony style and likely no life sim can use that style without a challenge in court. Not everyone has low spec computers and having an option for more advanced systems is a good thing. No one ever said Sims 5 is going to run on your low spec pcs either. The unfortunate truth is that the lower spec a game has, the less they can put in. Paradox does use dlc, but the dlc they put in add to the gameplay, not actually make the game playable. For instance in Cities, the is an industrial game pack. However, it only micro manages the industrial gameplay already in the game. So you aren’t getting new content per se but rather a more sophisticated management of it. LbY is a different game. It’s strange to always seeing different games compared to the Sims. It’s like comparing Minecraft to Stardew Valley because you can farm in both. In the end, there are people who enjoy simulation games. Whilst I have every Sim game and DLC, I also have every “tycoon” game and city builder game. Each offers something different and unique which is what makes them fun to play. If every game was the Sims, what would be the point of their existence. I have preordered LbY. They aren’t making promises that don’t already exist in its base structure right now. Iirc they have said this game has been being worked on for several years. I trust Parsdox as I have many of their games and each is unique and fun. You play what you want, at the end of the day no one’s opinion matters. I hate Lima beans and just because someone tries to convince me they taste good doesn’t mean I’m going to start liking them. Competition is always good. Choice is always good. And now we finally are starting to get some choices in life simulation. And that is good.
I bought the Sims but got bored because I had to buy a million expansion packs to really enjoy it and keep fresh, so I lost interest in the Sims a long time ago. But a game like this, which looks infinitely moddable, seems very intriguing. I definitely am going to keep my eye on this and will be curious how early access goes
My fave part from the livestream is when Rod says “We don’t have loading screens, because life doesn’t have loading screens” and gives a cheeky grin to the camera 😂😂
Edit: Thanks for the likes. And, more importantly, I’d like to echo something on the comment thread: TS2 came out in the early 2000s, when tech was less advanced and computers less able to handle open world games. So, anyone giving flak to Rod for the loading screens comment and saying “Oh? But he did TS2! And there’s loading screens in TS4!” … y’all need to rethink that statement.
which is funny to me bc he worked on sims 2 which had the same amount of loading screens as sims 4 ...
Then my question is how slow will ge game run and for what computers are they gonna work on? I mean sims could just remove the loading screens if they wanted but theyre there for a reason yk-
@@jadeebananas And improved on it in the Sims 3. He acknowledged when they were making TS3 that open world is more realistic which is why they implemented it

this is SO interesting to me. im the type of person who gets a little overwhelmed by TOO much customization, so this honestly doesnt look as appealing to me as what the sims is right now, but im definitely intrigued. im interested to see how it's gonna change in the next year so im keeping an eye on it. it would be so cool to see more general life sim content besides just the sims because this genre of game is up my alley!!!
I get easily overwhelmed by too many options too!! But I’m excited to see more!

Play the game if you want to play but don’t use it to further the sims 4
I actually prefer the look of Paralives over TS4.
Aside from that I agree, very rarely do I like very “realistic” graphics.

@@dokchampa9324 I mean, elders do be dying
Out of all the things you listed, I would like only bingo nights, and even this sounds a bit cringe. Because in reality as well as in the game, elders can have any hobbies, do most sports, choose to continue their career, live with their family or solo, travel, etc. Not giving them exclusive treatment means true anti-ageism imo.
@@Kyokka I understand what you mean, but no 80 year old is out here snowboarding or going snorkelling. this is only interesting to me if the super customization like micromanaging stuff is not always needed. this needs to be optional. i don't want to always put that amount of creativity/effort into something, that seems tiring. it's cool, the realism and animations are a bit off to me at the moment, feels like imvu in a not too positive way. but it really has potential it seems.
I'm with you on that. It seems more like a creative outlet than a fun silly vibe.
That charm didn't happen overnight with The Sims. It had over 20 years to develop it, across multiple games. LbY will develop it's own charm I'm sure.

This game seems like it’s relying on players to create their own perfect game which is bold for a game with no built in audience. People who don’t feel like creating their own dialogue, buildings etc. will have to rely on there being enough players to give them what they want

Yeah, Rod Humble went from The Sims to Second Life so I do think he's trying to bring both of those games together in this.

We’ll see how it develops
...I can't get over how damn DERPY the characters look. It's borderline creepy, if it isn't already. Unfortunately, visuals are a HUGE part of a game for me, particularly for those where customization for the characters is a core aspect. This so far seems like it'll fall under the Sims 3 umbrella for me - the gameplay might be pretty dang good...but if I can't get my characters to look good, I just can't get into it. Really hope that they work on the graphics much more before release. They could also do with maybe toning down the 'blur' when it comes to lighting ;;
sims 4 take
@@samuelljayy6705 Bro the people look like shit. They look worse than the first goat simulator people. And that's saying something.
@@samuelljayy6705 sims 4 >>> sims 3 always
Paradox announced that they are working out the blurs now and during early release and the character look isn't final
You've convinced me
I like the attitude that Lilsimsie has about this. I wish everyone thought that way!
YES!! I've been waiting for Kayla's take on this! I am loving hearing everybody's perspective
And they have driveable cars and public transportation. I can't wait to see how this game grows over time.
Curious, have you tried Paradox's Cities Skylines? I haven't yet, but as an old SimCity player, I'm considering giving it a go.
I'm personally really skeptical tbh
EDIT: I also worry about how it performs- I know that open worlds are something that a lot of people want but personally I prefer a game more people can play over that tbh
youre like the only person ive seen with the same stance on this as me. it looks like a doomed kickstarter game i really dont think this will end well. id like to be pleasantly surprised but yeah im not getting my hopes up. also it needs 16gb of ram and looks like that so i think the performance is gonna be awful lol
I’m actually so excited for Life By You! Got it on my wishlistt
I almost never pre order but I pre ordered life by you. I trust paradox and the level of customization means people are going to be making whole new games inside life by you. Plus I often feel restricted by sims and it’s T rating so I’m excited to see what kind of stories I can make here.
I think the two things this game needs is charm / lore and a more cartoony style
Charm and lore we don't know about yet. I wouldn't say it needs a more cartoony style, but it does need a distinctive art style
"No more cartoony style"
I know everyone is talking about charm and lore, and I agree for sure, but something to keep in mind is that Sims has had 20+ years to develop charm and lore. I kinda don't mind if there's not an insane amount of lore and charm right away because those types of things tend to take time to develop in a game like this, y'know?
the freely placing lots is soooooo attractive to me. i need that in the sims, honestly.
I feel like the characters bodies definitely need a bit more improvement but other than that I’m super excited for it and can’t wait!!
i think this game seems like more of a game creation than a just simply live your life and I think this could be really cool :)
If SimCity 2013 had ended up being a better game, I think SimCity and Cities: Skylines would have been competing but complementary franchises, and that's what I'm presuming will happen here with The Sims and Life By You.
this seems like more of an overarching world building thing than like, one household. sort of a wider scope
This game looks so cool. The world is so pretty and I really like how you can custom place lots
The stream gives so much more information. It's hard to translate by just the trailer.
" This game is gonna be more realistic... "
Alpha CC Sims: YES!
" Paralives is gonna almost start! "
Match Maxis CC Sims: YES!
I can see the mod option of altering conversations being a really exciting option.
It is absolutely astounding that the Sim still has no competitors despite being such a successful collection of games specific to a genre that has endless potential. If nothing else, I hope a game comes to truly challenge the Sim hegemony over life simulations.
Honestly, this looks like a new Sims 3 and I am definitely not mad about it!
So happy you took a look at this, I hope it is as good as it seems, if so, we can all enjoy some stories and characters by Kayla.
I'm kinda surprised with how popular the Sims is that we don't have more life simulation games.
I'm really exited. Not sold on graphics but love everything else. Would love to hear your thoughts on what the devs showed in their livestream.
I think I'll likely pre order this. I think competition among businesses is a really good thing, it pushes innovation. I'm excited to learn more!
Cant wait to hyperfixate on this games version of townies
I defo think the focus on this was what the Sims has dropped the ball on. Gameplay, depth and customisation. There are some really great inclusions and i definitely want to preorder this just to give it a shot ❤
This game reminds me of a game called SecondLife that was super popular in the early 2000s.
The game looks like it has so much depth and detail I love that. I am a little put off by the lighting of the game? Hopefully they make it a little warmer and less shadowy. 😅
You're energy when you're excited just makes me smile ❤️
@@missacat5027 they're still touching up graphics. It isn't done yet
I'm feeling super excited about this new game. I love all the aspects of it, at least what they've shown so far. 😊
I can't wait to see modders put their hands on this game lmaoo A lot could improve visually in it
It's really interesting to see a game try to provide a bridge for people who want to mod but can't wrap their heads or don't have the time to build that skill for heavily modding and thereby influencing their own games.
Because this game is open worrld and cars making it more realistic, i can definitely look past the characters!
I’m excited to see where the game will take the sims creators, if it will make them work harder or if it’ll be a game that can’t compete with sims
They explain some of the features on the paradox presentation. You should watch that video to get to see some of the features
Fun fact! The placing houses etc part is actually the exact same thing you could do in the Sims 2 without needing a "lot grid" if that makes sense. Didn't matter the size, shape, you could just place a lot down.
wasnt it in the sims 3 as well? i dont remember
@@Jauhelihakeitto sort of. You had to place a grid down for a building to go down in the Sims 3. In the Sims 2 you could just take a pre made build and put it on the ground.
The creators of this game are the same creators of SIMS 2 lol
@@Tezah89 I know 🙂
@@MandyE07 oh okay lol. I definitely misinterpreted your comment 😂🫣
I don’t think I’ll be one of the ones playing this game. It’s a little too much and overwhelming. The sims isn’t perfect but I like it that way
Ok?
honestly it looks a lot like the sorta thing Paradox games are known for ime: lots of finicky systems and moving parts that just make the game feel clunky to play. hopefully I'll be wrong (and either way, yay competition for TS4 and EA dear gods)
The cooking scene is what gets me that guy is so tall compared to everything else like how many people are just as tall as their fridge?
But I am excited.
I mean, my fridge is like 5'6, so I'd imagine plenty of people are taller than their fridgesll
Simsie! You can place walls on half tiles in life by you! 🎉
I think I would love to play more of these type of games. I am looking forward to Life By You and also Paralives
