A doctor's ego can only hold their own selves back from learning further from their patient's experience, because every human being is different. Very good and important video doctor :)

Thank you for your channel! I found your channel looking for medical information but stayed for the healthcare management advice and aspirations for creating healthy Dr patient alliance.
Having had a recent bad series of Dr experiences, and switched my primary care office from my local university Drs training internal medicine office after being referred to a 5th specialist of the same field for another 2nd opinion, but has not done nearly any scope of investigative diagnostic testing. And 2 years later of very intermittent appointments, with minimal follow up, very dismissive yet pleasant bedside manners. Finding your videos is healing for my building anger over the circumstances and interactions.
When a not yet graduated Dr spends more time trying to explain why I should
be able to find affordable dental insurance, not one of my primary concerns, than ordering New tests or exploring all potential causes of a health problem, then Dr alliance blows!

You aren't kidding about them wanting your money. When I was younger most doctors were in private practice, but now that big national companies own most medical offices and hospitals I feel more like a cash register than a patient. It's all about making more appointments, sending people to an affiliated hospital for tests, sending people to an affiliated specialist...

Yay, Dr. Chung, another great video on a subject matter that is usually taboo...all your talking points are true, have met doctor that on first meeting talks over you when you try to explain things to them or gets sensitive or irritated when you question procedures or medications being prescribed that they say " better get another doctor as I feel there is resistance from you" ... Thanks for giving light to such sensitive issues and hope that more people can get your message.

thanks for sharing this. i once went into ER, scared of my body's skin condition. Everything prescribed up til then didn't work, made it worse. The Sr. ER doctor gave his diagnosis and i responded 'i hope it works". He said "you don't trust my recommendaiton!?" in a very judging manner. His EGO was talking loud and clear instead of realizing that for me - going to ER was like my "last option". It worked 80%; h/e, he was terrible. I have hemorroid specialist apptmt coming up, hoping it will be with a thoughtful dr. like yourself.

I’ve been to couple doctors for my recently developed fissure and before the last one I went to I told myself…please no more doctors because they all have their own ways of treating this thing and they give similar creams with different names but nothing is working and I feel very very tired and helpless. However the last one I went to has the biggest ego and I’m even struggling to ask questions because of the condescending things he’s saying to me. And I want to believe his treatment is going to solve my problems. (Which is botox) but I really don’t trust him because of the way he acts and I feel even more hopeless now. I have no idea what to do. Going to another doctor means perhaps more time is wasted. I know that he’s a smart person and he’s specialized in proctology too. Should I trust his treatment?

A healthy ego is different than a defensively 'strong' ego.
I find for checking ego it helps to learn to discern by asking self:
Is a reaction/ response/ reply from and Internal loci or external loci motivated focus?
If we can understand that we all are prone to biases. Cognitive biases cause delusional thinking.
Biases like negative self talk to prejudice, to rigid judgment, and others are conditioned responses, not true internal loci. We are by evolution set for self success if regulation is well balanced with in the mind, body, emotion, and essense of self or spirit. Through somatic therapy I relearned some ancient philosophy about how that balance and self regulation presents in expression, decisions, and behaviors, when it is influenced internally vs externally.
The balanced native internal voice will not betray your survival success, whether socially, emotionally, physically, or mentally. Where as external inputs may be beneficial, neutral, or detrimental.
< External loci focus vs internal loci focus.
Opinions can be complex constructs but are not impossible to deconstruct. Anything learned can be unlearned, adapted betrer, or reframed.

Hello doctor Chung..,just wanted to ask you something, its a little bit lengthy question....
So I had been operated for haemorrhoids 3 years back with sphincterotomy and hemorrhoidectomy and so my bottom end became relaxed after that and I was able to completely empty my bowels and I also had chronic anal fissure at 6'o clock which they told me to scrape off in their clinic so they planned an opd procedure for fissure in which they scrape off the wound...so I went there after 7 days of surgery for this procedure but the experience was really bad , I literally cried in pain during the procedure and after that my butt hole feels spasmed and tight at 6'0 clock position, I am again constipated due to this and no other doctor is trying to understand me , they call it a mental issue and prescribe me laxatives , please help doctor.
    Should I go for sphincterotomy?
Also there is a thickening/swelling at 6'o clock above dentate line as per my colonoscopy reports...could it be a scar tissue? Please help sir....
    Much love from India...

I’ve only been for the exam and I’m already thinking this doc is like that. Just his PICTURE looks snooty and smug. The entire office staff lied. It says bring your copay. I get there, numerous people said “it’s covered”. Not once was I told there would be a bill, let alone just an office visit charge of more than my house payment. On the way out the door, I asked multiple times and everyone said “it’s covered”. They also said the colonoscopy was 100% covered then scheduled me for it in June and shoved me along. The dr barely said anything and was annoyed because when trying to describe what is going on, I had to say what it doesn’t seem like based on UA-cam videos of the multiple things it could be. I tend to use analogies, but he cut me off and just asked the exact symptoms. He finished up the finger rotorooter and said ok go sit in the blue chairs in the next room and he’d be there to discuss it. I never saw him again. Now I’ve found out they are not running the upcoming colonoscopy as screening like he said he would, but rather as diagnostic which my insurance won’t cover because I’m THOUSANDS from the deductible. I’ve been trying to for 2 days to get an estimate and then an estimate for the supposed abscess surgery and nobody is calling back. If it’s outrageous then I’ll HAVE TO cancel and just live with the bleeding and pain. God god my vets can all give me an estimate in 5 minutes for my fn cats. Ego is an understatement. This guy seems annoyed at his choice of profession. Nice to see you admit docs can be less than caring about the patient.

Curious is you ever saw a case of Perianal pseudoverrucous papules and nodules (PPPN)? Do you think it is listed as rare because it is or because doctors refuse to listen to you. Every doctor I have seen wants to do a full excision and not a biopsy. Why start with the most extreme treatment?

    • @yourfriendlyproctologist
      @yourfriendlyproctologist  4 місяці тому

I have not seen a case of PPPN. A quick review tells me excision is not the treatment, but instead remove the irritating factors. I don't know the details of your situation so its difficult for me to say.

Another great video. I agree with your view of being an educated patient but with a little different spin.
Doctors are high priced consultants that PATIENTs hire.
Medical professionals deserve and earned respect. However, they work for the patient; if they don’t meet your needs, fire them. While that works when you have options, but many places have limited options.
The introduction of for-profit business model in the worse case is destroying our already messed up medical system and at best changing it at a very quick pace.
The Mergers/acquisition, with its pressure on the bottom line, has lead to patients being treated more an income stream and less as a patient.
Corporate medicine dictates shrinking time-per-patient spent by medical professionals.
Is Patient base care in a for profit structure actually patient based care?

    • @GrumpyClaus
      @GrumpyClaus 4 місяці тому +1

How can a relationship of trust be created when time spent with a patient is being limited (example: 15 mins for endocrinologist) by for profit goals?
The trend seems to be that medical professionals are becoming employees not professionals - Unions for doctors are starting so medical professionals can push back. I feel sorry for new MDs as the medical world is changing fast and is not the world that existed when they started medical school.
As a patient, to get the most out of the limiting time constraints, you need to educate yourself and write down your questions (as advised here) so they don’t get lost in all the information coming at you in a fast pace.
I do think most doctors enjoy patients who take their time to learn about their particular predicament.
My oncologist, who is the head and founder of the local cancer center, loved my questions and enjoyed basically my job interview of him.
My cardiologist answered almost all of my questions on my list; he expanded on some of his answers, when I needed and was pleasantly surprised that I knew about a study he mentioned.
I whole heartedly indorse learning and i have better communication with my professional - that never hurts.
