Included a Spotter plane guide at the start with some examples since people still don't seem to understand the full potential of that consumable (counters smoke cruisers heavily). Will also post a commentary on the new buffed Mutsu soon, it's as fun as I predicted!
For BB, it's spotter plane all the way nowadays. Back when catapult fighters used to have normal duration they could be at least used as rudimentary pseudo-hydro for early spoting torps and ships on the other side of islands. Now it's absolutely useless. I basically use spotters almost exclusively against smokers and, surprisingly, i tend to score more citadelss firing blind into smoke than from aimed shots :)
counter smoke is what ppl keep saying, although it is a huge advantage, but spotter plane is a better spotting tool than fighters for DDs, because they have a larger radius, and WG program the plane to fly around the ship one revolution per time period, so spotter plane fly faster. There are many trade off between fighters plane and spotter plane. I am surprised that so little ppl know about it.
Up until just now I hated the spotter planes and found the high angle worthless. Now I can see a huge benefit to having and using it. Thanks for the tip Flamu, fantastic tutorial for sure!
flamu, you also forgot to mention that the flying radius of spotter(4.2 irrc) is further away than fighter plane(3.3 iirc) which mean you are more likely to spot a DD trying to ambush around an island than fighter planes, also the trade off is that it is easier to get shoot down by enemy cruisers. Since CV is a rare breed, I made most of my BB use spotter, because there are a lot of DD around an island in random and ranked, and this plane allow me to push more aggressively with a much greater distance spotting than fighter could provide. I made this change because the shorten duration of fighters plane make it less effective in spotting DDs.
i'm glad someone mentioned this this, was using it a lot against cruisers this season...still, it's a problem when DD pops up, tougher for me to hit it while spotter is up...and Naga is bad for R5-2, so no more
Thanks for this great spotter plane trick! I managed to land all of my 9 Molotov AP shells on a smoked up Belfast from 12.5km away :D sadly only one penetration and eight overpenetrations .__.
Hey Flamu - I just wanted to let you know that I took my Gneisenau out a moment ago, had a good battle (for me) with almost a 150K damage and top exp but the real story here is I had watched this video earlier so, instead of taking out the fighter like I normally do, I took out the spotter - I had a bunch of them in stock since I rarely use them except like end of game wanting to reach out to the last ships ASAP and I'm in my Murmansk or Budyonny or Warspite. Anyway - told myself before hand, if someone smokes up and I think I'll have a shot, I'll send the spotter up, look for gunfire, and give it try. Very first target I have an angle to fire on is a Leander and he smokes up and he backs away behind an island, and I watch for fire, and I see it, and I fire, and RNG cooperated because it was multiple citadels/devastating strike/deleted. I know this won't happen every time but it was fun to have it work on the first attempt. Thanks for the tip, sir!
Last season I played almost exclusively NC... the smoke meta was fairly prevalent, but even more than shooting smoke, I used it to counter island camping. Time and time again I got perfectly aimed shots at stationary, broadside ships who thought they were safe behind an island (NC has pretty lobby shells, so that helps a bit too). :)
Thank you for showing how to use the spotter plane to counter smokes I think I will have to practice in the training room. To the credit of that Belfast he did accept with good grace your explanation and even complimented your shot, I'm guessing you were playing on the NA server the EU server is never so civilised sadly
Wow dude, that's like the best information ever. With the new meta of dds no longer being invulnerable past 10km (thank God.) I'll be unstoppable. I feel pretty dumb for popping my plane for those 24 km snipes, but oh well, I'd rather detonate a fuso. I fucking love that shit. Jack of all trades with Yamamoto on nagato bro.
Could you make a ranked commentary for the Myoukou class heavy cruisers? A lot of people are taking their ARP ships or Dragon ships into ranked, including me, and we would all benefit from learning how to use that ship a bit.
I have the same build on my _Nagato_ (which is my Ranked ship other than _Shiratsuyu_), but I don't have as many captain points. However, I decided to skip CE and instead go for the extra T2-T3 skills, since I find I'm spotted all the time in Ranked anyway, unless I'm in smoke. With the shorter generally distances, I find it more situational, and thus less often useful, than the other skills.
Hey Flamu, how do I get such nice dispersion like you? Seems like whenever i shoot it just goes everywhere like a my guns were shooting from a cheese grater instead.... RNG hates me
I think it's because he is very good at predicting where the other ship will be and the game "rewards" that with lower dispersion. If you are not aiming at where the game think the ship will be, the game increases the dispersion to, at least, help you land a random shell.
ForTet That's a classic WG excuse. That's not true at all. The way shell dispersion works is you have a variable that represents the probability of any given shell landing where you actually aim, shares that variable along the horizontal axis, and for the vertical/long axis, that variable is taken and multiplied by the result of itself below 1, and raised to the sigma value. The only time this changes is when you don't have a ship targeted, which will make the vertical/long probability gradient much more uniform, thus decreasing average accuracy MrRandomNoLIfer Whenever Flamu uploads, he tends to cherry pick his better results that fall in line with what he wants to talk about. On streams, you get to see all of the garbage dispersion that must be endured before getting these kinds of results. It's just a consequence of poor WG balance methods. That shot on the Schors for example, you probably wouldn't be able to make that same shot within 10 salvos. Not at that range
I don't know what modules you use, but I can't reliably hit anything over 12 km, and even then, I bracket ships regularly; high/low and even front & rear, all in one shot.
Hello Flamu, You deserved subscription now :) Well, I just have a good Scharni with a 17pts captain, but I guess I will switch to my Nagato. It only has a 11pt captain but hey, then I just leave out the torp awareness and all is fine (pt 12 is in sight). I was already doing some smoke shooting, but never as good as you do. Perhaps because not using the plane for it...
Little update: just played my Nagato with "Flamu build" now and guess what: I was called a cheater for making 3 citas on poor mans Fiji in smoke :-D Just so much fun this build, thanks a lot :)
Flamu, just a random question: Which tier do you think would be the most interesting and/or balanced for next ranked season (disregarding upcoming ships and changes)?
Would you say using the spotter plane on the gneisenau, for ranked, is a good idea or the fighters are just too good for the spotting and plane panic they give?
This may be a dumb question... but what mods are you using and where did you download them from? I tried to find some, but I dont really trust downloading things from websites Ive never heard of. ;)
hi flamu honestly i have biggest respect for you and love your vids, but honestly that schors shot was bs man. 17km shot like that shows that the gun mech in this game is broken
You don't switch to HE on a Battleship because the Over penetration damage is more then enough to murder DDs in a few salvos... that's disregarding if you get a normal penetration where it does 5k damage which can be up to a third of the DDs hp at that tier.
There is no point in having two spotter planes. DCCA is purely so that people can run dual fighters. If you don't use fighters, there's no need to take the skill. But a lot of good players have this wierd idea that the catapult fighters actually do something so they run them anyway and waste a skillpoint.
As Flamu noted, he would pick fighters if CVs are around in numbers, and having the skill helps a lot there. Also two spotters will cover a LOT of ground. They fly further out than the fighters, so they provide a lot more information.

I loved my sharn in ranked. Any suggestions as to how to play it better?
For BB, it's spotter plane all the way nowadays. Back when catapult fighters used to have normal duration they could be at least used as rudimentary pseudo-hydro for early spoting torps and ships on the other side of islands. Now it's absolutely useless.

wow i didn't think about that use of the spotter plane.
Thank you for the guide =)
Thank you, I've been using Nagato with Spotter Plane for this sole reason, but people always judge me :|

spotter plane meta incoming
already has happened in clanwars
this is my meta for the last 6 months... fucking smoke meta :D

Patch notes 6.0.2
BB spotter plane duration set to 90 seconds.
Outta da Blue the time it has now? Lol

Nice emphasis on that second "Hello!"Bold. Boastful. Beautiful.
ohhh... never thought about using the spotter like that. Good tip.
Finally a way to get back at those smokers back a little.
i'm glad someone mentioned this this, was using it a lot against cruisers this season...still, it's a problem when DD pops up, tougher for me to hit it while spotter is up...and Naga is bad for R5-2, so no more
That dispersion is like 10x better than what I get what I play the nagato. Curse the RNG!
Thank you for this commentary, it helped me understand quite some things that I was doing wrong...
Well played. Thx for reminding how those ridiculously accurate and powerful those guns! I might ended up rebuying my Nagato...
Thanks for this great spotter plane trick! I managed to land all of my 9 Molotov AP shells on a smoked up Belfast from 12.5km away :D sadly only one penetration and eight overpenetrations .__.
sir, can u show the upgrades and commander skill for nagato ranked?
Thank you for this vid, I do love my Nagato. Now I'll be more efficient with it.
Hey Flamu -

Enemy Fiji pop up smoke on start and get double citadel from sky :) Reaction: -Joking?
Priceless :) Thx Flamu
nice. hope you do blyska too

I also found spotter planes very helpful when firing at targets behind islands.
Amazing use of spotter plane, always considered the plane as the worst consumable on BB
Changing my mind now
Yes, this makes so much sense! thank you Flamu.
Could you make a ranked commentary for the Myoukou class heavy cruisers? A lot of people are taking their ARP ships or Dragon ships into ranked, including me, and we would all benefit from learning how to use that ship a bit.
Thanks for the vids, been a great help. Are you doing blyskawica at all please?

Flamu, could you do a ranked analysis in the Saipan or the Hiryu pleaseeee, thank you!
Wow, that really works for the spotter plane…. Thanks
flamu the wise the God of WOWS
Thank you Flamu, I got I-13 in Kancolle.
I think Shchors is worse than Pensacola this season. I am disappointed when I see one on my team.
i delete shors from 19 km in the sharnhorst despite the horrible dispersion. almost every game he is in (ranked) i citadel him at start.
Hey Flamu, how do I get such nice dispersion like you? Seems like whenever i shoot it just goes everywhere like a my guns were shooting from a cheese grater instead.... RNG hates me

Idk I've also seen my shells land on them but not even the hit registers too it just kind of goes into the oblivion

What Xannari said.
Thanks for the clarification Xannari!
To be fair, I didn't read/hear this from WG, but from other streamers/YT channels.
I'm trying Fire Prevention in mine for a survivability in ranked build, and it seems to be working well for HE spam. Any thoughts?
never thought of that ..nice hint
Frankly I have seen way too many Nagatos trying to brawl and sitting broadside...
I don't know what modules you use, but I can't reliably hit anything over 12 km, and even then, I bracket ships regularly; high/low and even front & rear, all in one shot.
slikrx its just your skill and rng
slikrx aiming systems mod
accurate guns on the nagato? whoa she must have changed a lot the last time i played her the guns would hit nothing beyond 15km
Hello Flamu,
You deserved subscription now :)

I reached Tier 9 but Nagato is still my consistent money maker.
Holy fuck that tip is genius. Has definitely already paid dividends, thanks for th heads up!
Flamu, just a random question: Which tier do you think would be the most interesting and/or balanced for next ranked season (disregarding upcoming ships and changes)?
LOL, been doing that spotter plane trick too...
Should do a Yorck or Schors video where it's mere seconds long and just says "Don't do it".
Would you say using the spotter plane on the gneisenau, for ranked, is a good idea or the fighters are just too good for the spotting and plane panic they give?
sorry for highjack, but will you be streaming the event at 7 not on fiscord as iv been away from home today \ Camel
Nope, wont be streaming it, but I am taking part in it!
Flamu il check wg stream then, bw sure to bash hard and without prejudice!
10:03 well, the "M"-key allows me the same if i press it fast several times ;)
This may be a dumb question... but what mods are you using and where did you download them from? I tried to find some, but I dont really trust downloading things from websites Ive never heard of. ;)

Nagamon.
I was waiting for this comment x'D
just wondering,you say“bully ” or “bullet”?
Mfw I just got the Nagato but now it’s a tier 8 ranked reason
Why the Vigilance perk?
Never mind. Just figured it out. So much to learn from your videos.
10:26 I have a lot of heals but cannot use them. :Chooses Superindentent in build: sigh...
Why don't u spam M, it saves you a spotter and can be used at anytime
You could ve switched to HE at the end when there was only 1 dd left
You don't switch to HE on a Battleship because the Over penetration damage is more then enough to murder DDs in a few salvos... that's disregarding if you get a normal penetration where it does 5k damage which can be up to a third of the DDs hp at that tier.

Do you use asline mods?
