Years ago at the local coffee shop, my dad said of our small town and how everyone was related by blood or marriage "if we didn't have cars we'd all have 6 fingers and toes". Most of the old boys laughed, some did not. Read into that what you will.

The small town I'm from became a ghost town after they opened a Walmart 50 miles away. The department store and 5 and Dime went first followed by 85% of main st!!! In 10 years it was abandoned
Or they complain about the cost of fuel for said 3 hour trip. Those are the self entitled nitwits we have in society today

For a period of time, we owned that hardware store. It had wood floors, open fridges, canned goods on one side of the isle and rubber boots and implement belts on the other, it was our post office and there was an old kitchen table in the corner where the worlds problems were solved, I miss heaven and it’s intelligent people......

I went on a motorcycle vacation and ended up in a small Northern Ontario town much like my Southwestern Ontario small town. In the morning I stopped at Timmy's for a take out breakfast. There was a line up, of course. The servers would have a conversation with every one of the people they waited on. I started getting a bit impatient then gave myself a check. I was on vacation! WTF was my hurry? These people were behaving like we all should be. They were interested in and kind and caring of each other. Not a bad way to live IMHO.
Makes me miss my own small town in Wyoming 🇺🇲. I do go visit from time to time (I live 3 hours away now.. out in the country!) but too much has changed..

(Possible)Community Connection, I live in Chilliwack BC but my mother grew up in Heward and went to school in Stoughton. When I was younger spent summers and the odd Christmas with my grandparents (Gerty & Earl Gould) out there.. Not that any of you know who they are but thought I would throw it out there. Also, my late father-in-law worked for Weber Construction in Yorkton for many years doing big commercial projects all over the province and even into NWT (remember what that was?) In any conversation with someone he just met his first question, always, "where you from". He NEVER proceeded with the conversation until he established COMMUNITY CONNECTION! Always made the connection!

"Bunny Hugs" always makes me smile. I remember out in AB we called them "Kangaroos" because they used be a pull over with just one big pocket on the front. Either sounded more family friendly than "Hoodie". Kind of sinister don't you think.

NICE! Hey my Chrysler minivan was made in Canada... no complaints. The 05 has 350,000 miles on it all original (well it's on it's 3rd or 4th alternator but nothing's perfect) and the 12 just rolled over 60,000 miles and is currently got the back end full seed and stadium seats and lawn chairs for the high school playoff football games we're running to every week...

I went into my local Walmart here in North Carolina a few days ago and bought tomatoes that were 'A Product of Canada'. Usually they come from California or Mexico. Hopefully never from China.
