The body on that bull is huge! Glad they have a good food source up there. Awesome hunt per usual guys! And that first doe interaction was really cool to watch, she didn't have a care in the world 😂
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. John is under paid and priceless. Donney get better. Maybe in my 30s and 40s. Too old and worn out now. What a grind! One bad ass crew!
There are no words to describe the absolute beauty, harshness of the environment and weather, and the royally majestic Alaskan elk just witnessed in that film! Thank you guys and all the sponsors for sharing this adventure with us. Awesome…just awesome!
Howmany of you outside Alaska realize Roosevelt elk is the only animal up here not native to Alaska??? They were introduced from Washington state only to etolin island just south of Wrangell and afognak and raspberry islands just outside of Kodiak island.
The best hunting video I’ve ever seen. I love how only a small portion of this video is the hunt. Keeping it real. So glad this was all in one video. Epic.
Wow you guys are tough !! Congratulation on your helk and kodo for all of you . I can not imagine doing this . Thank you for taking me to your incroyable journey . Cheers !
The only thing I can say … just watching … is WOW! Huge bodied bull, layer of fat over most of the body, and a muscular (meaty) animal. Glad to see and hear Donnie is doing better. You gotta give a big thanks to your camera guy. Corey was an absolute mountain man. Thanks for sharing … incredible video depicting the challenges, struggles, and joy of hunting elk.
I think, for first timers who want to take up this hobby, should undergo a fitness test in my opinion and I'm glad to know, you all made it out alive. It's one of the best movie for animal lovers to watch. I reckon, I'd rather hunt for rabbits instead- at least, they're not a heavy load to carry for a few in the pot. Thank you for going through extreme lengths to make it all possible turning it into another geographical wild life adventure!
I am so glad you made this film. We were dropped at that same lake a week later for our second rifle hunt there and its hard to explain to others. The snow was deep on the ridges by the time we arrived and our pilot told us about your adventure and misery. He also told us of a group at the same time as you who abandon their gear and hiked to salt for an early pick up. For those contemplating this hunt make sure you have a complete second set of gear and shelter every time you leave camp. We often joked once a mile or so out of camp about what the hell we would do if we put one down. There is not one square inch of flat ground there. This was our second year in a row and we have not seen an elk there. By the way one of the last and best pilots, the one who picked you up, will no longer fly into that lake.
@@tjallen3967 Its just too dangerous. He flew me out with gear and dropped me at the saltwater and went back up to get the other two and gear. I am a low time Cessna driver and there was zero room for error. We flew directly at the mountain and banked losing altitude before heading towards the lake outlet. You can not fly directly at the outlet and clear the trees. I am not sure if this makes sense. Into the lake is relatively easy but getting out is a different story.
A brutal film of courage and toughness. Any idea whag that bull weighed. What a tank. The further North the more body mass and fat to survive is needed. Dang bears. Congratulations for a successful hunt. I so enjoy yor films. Donnnie hang in there for next season and many more. Great work on editing and filming John. Appreciate all.
Advanced Perseverance. I will remember watching this anytime I am hitting the wall. This is really over the line. W/ temps and precipitation it’s one slip away from death, add the fatigue factor….it’s incredible.
Donnie you are a warrior. The emotional battle you faced laying in that tent feeling defeated would break most men. Way to keep your head up and battling through. Very inspirational for those that can relate. The hawk was on point!
In the mid-70s when I lived in Alaska, the thought of hunting elk had real appeal. After watching this video, I think its better that I spent my time with sheep, caribou, bears and moose; none required a pack out like you accomplished. You definitely set the bar high on the 'hard' scale and thanks for showing what's possible if conditioning and motivation are both at the very top. Wow, what an adventure and accomplishment. Congrats to you all.
Wow ..... u guys did.... it great shot 👏 ... u guys normally make it look so easy in every show u guys do so to watch u guys have to work so hard make it show what work u guys put in day to day
Studs! What a grind! But got a giant pig of an elk. The back strap looked like an anaconda! Congratulations on a hunt of a life time! How many men can say they did this? I’m in awe!
After a life time of such hunts in Alaska, am always thrilled to go hunt the National forests of Montana and Idaho (dry trails, dust and relatively easy walking). This video really captures the wetness of Alaska, from the beach to mountain tops it is a swampy, soaking place. most of the battle is staying dry or getting dry. Great video.
Excellent filming and production guys. One tough ass hunt. Alaska and Alaska weather is unforgiving that’s for sure. Lived worked and hunted in ANC AK in 20’s and 30’s. I highly recommend it for the young! I’m not tough enough to pull it off today. Thanks for sharing this hunt. Brutal.
And even though it’s not real sportsman like: with one man down, I would been praying for a bear on all the meat on my hike back up there! That worked out
The only word I can think of is.... EPIC! I couldn't even imagine that hunt. That animal look like a monster on video. And I already know video doesn't do those animals justice. Thank you for sharing.
A few Roosevelt Elk over on Afognak too. Tough hunting for sure. We did it in quite a bit of rain and more rain. LOL. nothing wrong with water I guess. beautiful where you are at for sure! Those elk can cover some dang ground. spot em then pursue and they are gone! LOL Great hunt gentlemen.
An elk hunt film for the history books. This will live long in the memories of all who watch this. I can’t imagine the feeling you three had when that plane landed back in town. Thankful this all ended well for you guys. Absolutely amazing.
Been hunting Roosevelt's for over 30 years and that is the biggest bodied elk I have ever seen. Beautiful scenery! What a once in a lifetime adventure. Thanks for taking us along. That's the only way I would ever get there. I am way to old for such a mentally and physically challenging adventure..
Unbelievable!!! Un frickin believable!!! Was glued to the radio listening to the story on the podcast then to actually watch you guys out there in that terrain and conditions no words could ever describe this story. What a adventure. My hat of to you Donnie!!!
Man, that bull was a beast!!! Great video and thank you so much for inserting new music. Seems like everyone has been using the same music for the last 2 years.
After living in Alaska for nine years, I have seen some of the most challenging weather conditions that nature can throw at you. Add to this the challenges of hunting in such steep, wet, wild country and it is truly an epic adventure of grand proportions that one can only truly appreciate if you have experienced it. This film was as you as you can make it. It was a win just surviving such challenging and frustrating conditions. To have the opportunity to harvest an elk was simply a bonus. Great film guys and thank you so much for sharing!! Most likely a once in a lifetime adventure and rightly so.
Thank you Corey, Donnie and John! What an incredible adventure. I am glad Donnie is doing better. You guys got Nerves and muscles out of steel. Thank you for sharing it with us. God bless you
That bull was an absolute tank. Thanks for sharing your experience in such a harsh place. You boys are wired differently. Much love and respect from SE Idaho!
I got to go along on an Alaskan Elk hunt with my brother-in-law a couple years ago. We were able to get 2 bulls and it was truly a blessing. For those who have not done this hunt, THEY ARE NOT BEING DRAMATIC! While watching this, I truly got emotional when you first loaded your packs with the meat and started heading down the mountain. I remember that feeling like it was yesterday. Congratulations! You said on the video that you probably only do it once........take it from me, you'll want it again!
My heart was hurting for you guys the whole video. 💔 Donnie I'm so glad you made it outta there alive! John needs way more credit than any camera man on the planet and corey I'm so happy you can say ya did it but owie. That was brutal.
One of the best elk hunting videos I’ve ever seen. Alaska is a dream destination to start with, add Corey, Donnie, and John and an it’s definitely an episode I’ll watch often.
I am a lifelong Alaskan and I have been on some incredibly brutal hunts . Everyone here knows that the hunt you guys did is probably the toughest one to endure in the state . I have to say that is the best hunting video I have ever seen thank you for sharing!
Absolutely mind blowing adventure gents. Love that you guys keep it real not just show the highlights of the hunt but the crazy challenges you had to over come! Thank you Elk101 and all of your sponsors for help making this film! Thank you all for taking us on an amazing adventure!
The craziest part about this hunt was the two days of sunshine at the beginning. Otherwise it had all the components of a Southeast Alaska hunt. Rain, wind, fog, bears, brush, getting cliffed out. You boys definitely got your moneys worth, good work!
Epic was the right word. A part of me wanted to do this hunt when the weather was good, even after listening to the podcast and hearing of your adventure. That opinion quickly changed seeing the conditions for the pack out. Beautiful BIG bodied bull with the coolest pack out. Thanks for bringing me along on the journey!
This is a very late post! I finally made the time to watch this hunt. It was on my radar since it was post. Life gets busy. First and foremost excellent Job Gentleman! That was true grit and determination! Way to stick with it! What a hunt! You were all warriors! Thank you for sharing! I have no excuse now when it comes to packing my first bull! I'm looking at this video glued to my laptop....Wow !!!! I'm never complaining about rain on the North Coast of Oregon again .....My knees are hurting for you guys, but what a authentic adventure. Even shooting "B" role film came at a physical price...You make me proud to be an archery Roosevelt hunter !!
Thanks for taking us along on a beautiful. I was born in Alaska and have never been back to hunt. I have however hiked those steep mountains quite a few times. Your lungs definitely burn. Thanks for bringing back the memories of one of the most beautiful places on earth.
What a successful way to start your 2021 season. The epic beauty of that hunt to the documentary of the week pack out. What a vision for an excellent series props to the sponsors RMEF, MTNOPS, PEAX Equipment, and Yeti for believing in Elk101 and a huge thanks and congratulations to Corey, Donnie, and John for turning your dreams into reality. Randy Newberg and your crew thanks for teaming up with Elk101 to deliver the best Elk hunting series.
I can't belive how well you described this hunt on the podcast when I listed to it earlier this year. The hunt, the scenery, everything was exactly how I imagined it in my head! What a crazy amazing adventure! Congratulations on this giant bull! He looks like a brama bull with antlers walking around on that mountain, not an elk. He's massive!
You know you had mentioned it was a rough hunt but words do not give justice to the absolute brutal conditions and country. Good work. It will be a memory you have forever.
It has been years for me in making comments but you guys are great. Love the hard work and good living. I have hunted Elk on Etolin in Alaska, I live here in S.E. Alaska. Good high top, water proof boots is a must. I like the airbob soles for the wet glass and moss. The light weight traps are also a good thing to have. If it is warm enough you may find us in just light long underwear under our rain gear. Easy to move in. You are right, this is not your normal place to hunt, no roads, very few people and help is hours or a day away. I always carry a VHF radio here. Very nice Bull. Glad it did not cost you guys much more pain then it did.
That was an awesome adventure. Bummer Donnie got sick. Congrats on your Roosevelt elk, it looked big and I’m sure it seemed even bigger when you had to pack it. Randy will be happy that at least some of the episode turned into destination grouse. Thanks for sharing.
Wow what a hunt and a massive bull. You guys are some tough dudes. I have packed out a few rocky mountain elk(in my younger days) but nothing even close to what you had there. Total respect to you all.
Hats off to you guys, Cory, Donnie and John. What an experience. It felt like 20 mins went by and I checked the play time and the video was at 1 hour. Safe to say I was fully invested in the moment watching this hunt, well done guys and an amazing old Bull to top it off. Cheers, Joe from New Zealand.
Without a doubt, the best Elk 101 ever! What a fantastic documentary! Hope Donnie's mishap in the contiguous last elk season have had great prognosis. Love your guys!
The body on that bull is huge! Glad they have a good food source up there. Awesome hunt per usual guys! And that first doe interaction was really cool to watch, she didn't have a care in the world 😂
This is by far the most phenomenal hunting adventure ever captured on film. Alaska is beautifully brutal.
Brutal hunt but what a massive bodied Rosie! Congratulations
Colorado has a lot of out state hunters for elk . Most are glad they came. I always wondered about elk in Alaska . Thank u for sharing .
Been watching your videos from the start, best one yet.

Amazing episode. Bummer Donnie had a horrible trip. Uncle Randy would be proud that the forest chicken didn't get a free-pass.
One of the best hunting videos on youtube.
Donnie...you're awesome. Cheesy, but awesome!
What an amazing video!!! I could almost feel your guy's pain through my t.v.!!! Crazy tough!!!
