    Excellent video guys! People say that Atlantis may be in modern-day Tunisia, near the Atlantic Ocean. Who knows, it's great to have mystery unsolved. Some say that Atlantis got destroyed by the Younger Dryas event, or maybe by some magnetic/solar imbalance... Funny enough, if those civilizations had better tech than us, especially when the pyramids seem to be ancient and much more mysterious than initially thought...

Your guys' work, that of a Ancient Greek mode of thinking, really resonate well with Jonathan Pageau's, that of a christian mode of thinking. Your videos never cease to amaze me, even through some different lens or conclusions, both you and Pageau point to a way of ancient thinking that is often overlooked or misunderstood by both modernists and post-modernists. It's generally know as the Whig theory of history, that things generally get better and better. A major alternative which is more the historical norm, is a cyclical theory of history.

    • @AncientGreeceRevisited
      @AncientGreeceRevisited  3 роки тому +4

      Yes exactly. And cyclical history is what the ancient world believed, so that a story like Atlantis could stand in the eyes not only of Greeks, but practically all pre-modern people. It's funny how this "Whig" version of history is now considered "conservative", yet the radical Left has adopted most of it. It's idea of "social justice" is based on our (apparently) unique 21st century ability to empathise with others.

    The Egyptian priest may also refer to the Greeks as "eternal children" due to the fact that they never kept records the way the Egyptians did. And thus, they were keep forgetting who they really are. Egyptian on the other side used to keep records of almost everything, couldn't miss of course such a great part of the history as Atlantis and the war against the Athenians. Keep up the good work, you guys are a gem for the UA-cam.

      Thank you very much for this. And yes, the Egyptian priests might have alluded to that. But let's remember that we think of the Greeks as ancient because they lived 2,500 year ago. That was exactly the difference between them and the ancient Egyptians! So these were ancients by ancient standards.

    One of the strongest arguments against something like Atlantis would be modern genetics, especially relating to our understanding of the genome of the earliest crops. Despite the unlikelihood of any cataclysm completely destroying agricultural knowledge, any crops that were sown would have been rewilded across various regions (Africa, Europe, Middle East, and even further if some theorists are right). But modern genetics suggests that we can trace modern crops to variants that were domesticated in the Neolithic period. It beggars belief that a cataclysm would have wiped out a whole civilisation (entirely possible) AND all agricultural varieties that were used by such a civilisation (highly improbable, nigh on impossible). We would see a lot more variety in domestic animals across these regions in addition to rewilded crops traced to earlier forms too. This is a huge obstacle that the theory must address.

      Well, what about Noah's ark?? Just kidding! Or actually... half-kidding to be exact. Not everything needs to be destroyed for a "destruction" to be recorded in myth. A certain prolonged flood might do the job. It's not an all-or-nothing scenario, but of course the purely symbolic-mythological explanation is very valid: that the whole thing happened in human consciousness rather than the real world. Whichever the case however, the fact is that we are bound within our own narrative of progress, and that for better or worst... this creates a certain blind-spot.

    • @wodenravens
      @wodenravens 3 роки тому

      @@AncientGreeceRevisited I agree that Atlantis challenges Enlightenment ideas of progress. I would also add that it also fundamentally challenges Western supremacism - what is inherent superiority in cyclical spatio-temporality? Perhaps for this reason so much Western engagement with Atlantis has been about proving that Atlanteans were white? Who knows. I would not count out Atlantis entirely. But if it were as advanced as claimed, it would probably require advanced agriculture. We would see evidence for that in the genetic record. Something exists, and maybe its materiality is the least important of its aspects.

    The fortunate thing about Egypt is that it did not collapse when other Bronze Age civilization, and therefore it's written records and culture would have lasted well into the classical period. Unfortunately, Mycenaean Greek civilization collapsed at the end the Bronze Age; and Greek literacy was lost. Classical Greeks had little knowledge about pre-classical Greek history.

    • @AncientGreeceRevisited

      Yes, there are mentions of the "Sea Peoples" in ancient Egypt, who came (by boat) from the North, but where eventually repelled. These might have been the last wave of conquerors who "washed" off in the African shores but went no further.

  • @Cicco2008
    @Cicco2008 Рік тому

    ...so if the story as related and reworked by Plato is a reflection of a record from Solon himself and his visit to Egypt, it might be an Egyptian viewpoint on the end of the peoples of "Keftiu" (as the Egyptians appear to have referred to Crete/Minoans) and if "Solon" misunderstood the date (not 9000 years but 900 years before) it would put the story around the time of the destruction of Santorini... so perhaps this is an "Egyptian" version of a remembered Mycenaean invasion of Crete.... The Greek version may be the myths of Theseus etc....

      In his "Revelations" [21:9-21], St. John talks about the City of Jerusalem that came down from Heaven with gates spread equally on the four directions of the earth. It measured 12,000 stadia in width, height and breadth. So, 12,000 to the third (which is the whole volume of the city) is 1,728 billion "stadia," divided by 4 = 432 billion. There's a new hypothesis out that the Younger Dryas event was caused by a comet ☄ hitting the North American ice sheet near what is today Bay City Michigan. An immense tsunami of molten ice raced southward even as fragments of glacier pulverized everything within about a 1500 miles' radius.

    O Solon, Solon, you Hellenes are never anything but children, and there is not an old man among you.
    Solon in return asked him what he meant.
    I mean to say, he replied, that in mind you are all young; there is no old opinion handed down among you by ancient tradition, nor any science which is hoary with age. And I will tell you why....... In the first place you remember a single deluge only, but there were many previous ones; in the next place, you do not know that there formerly dwelt in your land the fairest and noblest race of men which ever lived, and that you and your whole city are descended from a small seed or remnant (23c) of them which survived. And this was unknown to you, because, for many generations, the survivors of that destruction died, leaving no written word. For there was a time, Solon, before the great deluge of all, when the city which now is Athens was first in war and in every way the best governed of all cities, is said to have performed the noblest deeds and to have had the fairest constitution of any of which tradition tells, under the face of heaven....TIMAEUS OF PLATO.

    The problem with modern man is that they look at the past through modern eyes. They stick to modern borders and empires as if nothing ever changed. Asia? The area the ancient Greeks called Asia only occupied the western coastal area of modern day Turkey, Libya was the smallish coastal area just west of Egypt. Things change.
    The pre-flood Cyclades plateau was the location of the civilization that inspired the story.
    Even the shape of the landmass when turned upsidedown bore a resemblance to a figure of a giant man with one leg bent as if kneeling. (Places and cities were usually named after a figure, animal, color, etc that it looked like). "Pillars of Hercules" were found everywhere, and even Plutarch (?) Had said the Germanic tribes had one erected in their lands.
    As Plato said, the whole Mediterranean basin was devastated and almost all life was wiped out. There would be no written record, no stories, nothing. Just a distant memory of something... a myth or story.
    Archeology is proving all these things, and other cultures have always been jealous of the Greeks and now covet their most ancient history and stories and arrogantly look everywhere else but right where it always has been. You cannot read this story with modern eyes, you need to use your mesolithic eyes... So sad.

    This video explains a logical explanation of where the lost city of Atlantis might be, based on Plato’s original writings. In Plato’s writings he gave measurements of the sizes of the rings that formed the City of Atlantis and these are the same as modern measurements of the Eye of Africa or Richat Structure. Plato also wrote that the main part of the City was constructed by red, white and black rock and rocks of these colours can be found in the area of the Eye of Africa. The one thing that could rule out the Eye of Africa as the City of Atlantis is that it is above sea level, but detailed studies of the local geomorphology and geology have demonstrated that there has been steadily uplifted, without any significant periods of subsidence for over four million years. Therefore eleven thousand years ago when Atlantis was destroyed the area would have been lower near sea level and Atlantic could have excised for thousands of years before this date. ua-cam.com/video/pbf_TD4Pdq0/v-deo.html

      Yes, this could be true. But still, the question remains, why did Plato speak about it in the first place. I mean, a Hollywood film set in New York would definitely acquire an added interest in a hypothetical future where New York was swallowed by the sea and was thought to have never existed! Still, once the reality of such places is well established, we must ask the question of why did the authors of either the Dialogues or said Hollywood film choose this place as the setting of their stories ...

      No matter how many times he says it it will never be accurate. I'm not mistaken as I have over a hundred books on Atlantis. All the people that lived when Atlantis was around (I think they know better that you) say it is an ISLAND in the middle of the Atlantic. It will never work in a desert I'm afraid. Cayce does say that Atlantis goes back to at least 210,000 years before present. Also the measurements are completely off for the Eye, he lies about that and continues to make money off his videos and convincing gullible people who do not verify the information for themselves. I will never change my opinion and if you were a responsible researcher you would never have fallen for his garbage. Randal Carlson has also refuted it as well.

      It could very well be. But it's just as important to tell "the trees from the forest." A forest is made of trees, but its more than that: it's the way these trees come together to form a pattern that makes each forest unique. Similarly, the elements of a myth our undoubtably from real life events, but it's the way these come together to express something OTHER THAN the elements themselves.
