That girl looks like she can hold her own because she definitely can. That's Gina Carano, former MMA fighter. She also plays Angel Dust in Deadpool.
@M 40 Gina Carano is the best. I love watching her fight scenes. They're totally believable.
It's nice the show doesn't try to force the "strong female character" thing, they just legit have a strong badass female character.
Was about to say the same thing. Love me some Gina Carano
I *Thought* she looked gorgeous- --er, I mean, familiar!
she can get pretty.. Haywire...
"How do you outrun that thing?! That's just not possible!"
...
Because it's an Imperial walker, not an Imperial runner.

*slow clap*
😑 well done...
👏👏
Lol I feel that is something Han would say with a sarcastic face.
this is why i love this series, it shows "less is more" one AT-ST is a huge threat when its just cara, mando and some villagers fighting it. you don;t *need* 60,000 ships flying around a lightening storm in a loud, confusing nightmare. keep it simple.
IX absolutely did not earn that ship arrival scene. It's empty maximalism. That lone AT-ST seemed more menacing than the entire Final Order fleet on an emotional level.
Something the dogshit prequels could've used too
Favreau is known for favoring practical FX over CGI. I suspect that's why this one is more menacing.
Caseytify No, that's just implementation, which can improve the details. The writing is where it went wrong on macroscopic level.
And you don't need a bigger, better Death Star every few episodes just to artificially raise the stakes. Didn't like that in ROTJ. Hated it in Force Awakens.
He's in a dark hut. They're outside in the sunshine. If anyone looked at the window, at most they'd see an outline. But no one's going to be looking at the window when the baby is out there playing in the yard.
My theory is he can remove the helmet in the company of children, but not adults. However, I agree your explanation why he removes his helmet in that scene also makes sense.
AT-AT: All-Terrain Armored Transport
AT-ST: All-Terrain Scout Transport
The way I remembered it as a kid was the S stood for small lol :3
@@generic_sauce LOL. That works, too!
It's the Transport in AT ST that gets me... we've seen they only fit 2 people!
@@peterbrazukas7771 or two ewoks and a wookie lol
@@peterbrazukas7771 I've seen it fit two Ewoks and a Wookie. LOL!
The AT ST in this episode was a leftover from a garrison, sold off to mercenaries by some aspiring former Imperial. In this period there are still a lot of leftover Imperials about, known in the EU as the Remnant; mostly garrisons and commanders that have devolved into warlords; paying their men by selling off weapons and equipment. They're mostly relegated to the Outer Rim planets however.
And they explain that in the episode. Why doesn't she pay attention?
@@rabidrobbie dude, you get everything right on the first try? Jeez, chill
@@razvanboghi7502 I guess Rabid Robbie's name was earned.
That's the EU, not canon anymore. Disney decided that the remainder of the Empire all left and hid in the Outer Regions and reformed into the First Order, then came back 30+ years later.
Isn't that the dumbest thing you've ever heard? God, and to think I actually was excited when Disney bought Star Wars....
@@razvanboghi7502 Yeah, usually I do. Because I actually pay attention.
Baby Yoda: does something
Mando: *sigh*
Baby Yoda: does something
Mando: sigh
Natalie: Maternal sigh
@M 40 wait, wtf did i just read
Everyone watching: Awww
When the Empire fell, its soldiers and vehicles didn't just disappear. So we see stormtroopers working as mercenaries, and random vehicles being used by local groups. I don't know any more than you do at this point, but the appearance of these remnants doesn't necessarily imply any actual Imperial activity behind them.
Same thing happened in the real world when the USSR collapsed. Tons of military equipment went 'missing' and ended up in the hands of everyone from warlords in the third world, to criminal organizations...
Basically, the outcome of any largescale conflict... the soldiers get sent home to their peace-time jobs but all that mass-produced equipment they were carrying gets left behind. After WWI, the US sold off its enormous stockpile of tommy guns (aka "trench-sweepers") to anyone with a handful of green... that's why criminal gangs from Chicago to Shanghai had them during the 20s and 30s.
So you've got "sci-fi Al Capones" running around the galaxy with as much abandoned Imperial hardware as they could steal before the New Republic could lock it down.
Mando was in shadow when he took his helmet off, and easy enough to put back on if someone approaches. The community seemed to respect his space, for the most part.
"She looks like she can fight" Well... MMA Cage Fighter Champion Gina Carano... she can actually beat up any actor on the show.
James SaliSant champion...4...years in a row?
She was a UFC champion on an olymptic level, not a cagefighter lol.
edit: she fought in EliteXC before Showtime shutdown and the UFC bought the footage, sorry. Still a champ.
@@NoOne0527 Nope just thought she fought in the UFC and was mistaken lol still don't call them cagefighters, that's the term they used to stop fight commissions from accepting MMA as a sport.
@@JohnBelley86 Till Cyborg beat the brakes off her.
Baby yoda's a boy, the doctor in the last episode said "I protected him." He's a doctor so he should know. Also if Mando and the baby might end up in Tatooine...hmm...interesting.
Plus in this episode the village lady invites him 'and his boy' to stay.
Just lift his robe for gosh sake or simply ask him. This isn't calculating a jump to lightspeed. Best. Leo.
Very interesting. Lol
M 40 I think people use Coruscant as the standard day/year, which I’d assume has a roughly Earth-equivalent orbit for simplicity’s sake.
@M 40They use "standard" measures of time based on Coruscant, which is similar to Earth (368 days in the old canon, 365 days in the new) with days, hours, minutes, etc. the same standard. The galaxy generally keeps a Galactic Standard Time based on this for unifying communication, travel, etc.
It's simple. I see a Natalie Gold video related to Star Wars, I click.

The scenes with Baby Yoda and the kids had me squealing. My heart was melting from how adorable it all was. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Baby Yoda is the best thing to come out in the past year.
I loved this episode. Re-telling of Seven Samurai.
Star Wars and Akira Kurosawa are so intermingled this episode was the perfect homage to both.
I realised while back ago that any good scy-fy or fantasy series eventually ends up doing a 7- Samurai re-tell... In Firefly,, some space cowboys deffend a brothel from a local mob; in Clone Wars some jedi and bounty hunters defend some colonials from space pirates; in Merlin, young prince Arthur, lady Morgana and Merlin defend a village from raiders... it's a concept that can be translated to so many media that easilly can look hugelly different... For example; some dwarfs that deffend a hobbit village from a goblin attack could be neat XDD
But the most bizarre and yet still good re-telling must be "A bug's tale"; where a bunch of errant big bugs defend an ant colony from grasshoper predators... but it's still basically the same story XDD
@@osonhouston given Star Wars was a ripoff of Kurosawa, this should not be a surprise.
@@Caseytify I wouldn't say RIP off George Lucas as well as other directors praised Kurosawa and was pivotal in him being recognized in the United States. A fist full of dollars was a rip off Kurosawa had to sue.
@@Caseytify Those who do not pay homage at the Temple of Kurosawa are doomed to fail.
Star Wars draws a lot of inspiration from old Kurosawa films and shows like Shogun Assassin; about a wandering samurai who travels with a small child. This episode had a very 'Seven Samurai' feel.
Who besides me is super stoked to see Natalie’s reaction to episode 8?
#thisistheway
SO stoked.
😀😁😲 dame right can't wait to see her go 😲🤗🤗👀😀😀😀 and hear what she would like to see in season 2
#thisistheway
I love this series because it feels like the old Star Wars, even referencing (and thus canonizing) things from the EU.
Your poor dog is so confused LOL.
Basically the dogs of any Minecraft streamer.
That is Gina Carano, former fighter. She's already been in a couple really good action movies, notably Haywire.
Nice to see some love for Haywire. That flick deserves to be noticed.
@@jackthenarrator4735 I with you on that one. Underrated movie for sure
Don't forget she was in Deadpool too...
Also I believe that she used to be a pro wrestler.
@@Trojan_Rabbit Nope. MMA fighter for EliteXC.
I love how honest you are with what movies you already watched. It's really much appreciated.
Stormtroopers need to start wearing those pots. They seem to hold up to blaster fire better than their armor. 😂
apparently the plasteel their armour is made from is designed to ablate a blaster hit and keep them alive, if wounded. I guess the theory was "They can't shoot ALL our guys, so do what's cheapest."
When baby yoga spit out the frog, your laugh made me snortle. I love watching your videos.
The "villagers defending their town" piece is almost a straight lift out of Akira Kurosawa's masterful film Seven Samurai (the basis for the Western film The Magnificent Seven). This whole series draws very heavily on Japanese cinema, with the Mandalorian and the Child drawing heavy comparisons to a Japanese manga/film series called "Lone Wolf and Cub"
"Badass woman" is one of my all-time favourite character tropes, along with "sarcastic person in charge with a dark backstory" and "ultra-scaredy-cat scientist who overcomes their fear to perform something heroic".
The Mandalorian episode 4: Seven Samurai
Pretty much. Baby Yoda is Kikuchiyo. :)
Two and a half Samurai
I couldn’t be prouder of Nat: rattling off Star Wars data like a pro. AT-AT vs AT-ST and knowing which movies they appeared in. And keeping up with Yoda’s age. Nice Nat! Nice!
I just wanted to say "Thank You." Your reaction videos to Star Wars on a whole is amazing to watch!! I appreciate how genuine you are.
The undercover code name George Lucas used while filming Star Wars was Blue Harvest (Also the Family Guy version, which you should watch). Get it?! blue shrimpy thingys.
Will V
I think that was specifically “Return of the Jedi”.
Nobody cared about the first movie, legit. They didn't need to be secret about any of it because no one knew what to think about it.
titovalasques - Yep.
@@StopReadingMyNameOrElse IT wasn't just a secret thing why Blue Harvest was the 'working title' for ROTJ, but it was also a cost cutting measure as back then as people were charging more for bigger movies than small movies for the same thing (stages, camera equipment, catering, etc) and say to the owners/operators that they in fact were shooting 'Blue Harvest' which worked until Mark, Harrison and Carrie arrived on set and since the stages/locations/etc had already been paid (at the cheaper rates) they couldn't force the production to raise the prices for something they already paid for.
I really like the Mandalorian and looking forward to Season 2. Loved your dog's reaction as well! :D
“You’re gonna cover her with that little thing?” ...that’s what she said
" You ok, mom?"
Don't worry she's just watching innocent people getting murdered
Koda is adorable!
Thay need each orther more than they know, great reaction from your dog by the way.
Awwwww loves to Koda. Lol at 2:44 he's all, 'Mom -WTH?' lol
The "puppet" is more like a $3 million controlled robot...there's a whole behind-the-scenes series that Disney put out about the making of The Mandalorian that I HIGHLY suggest watching AFTER watching season 1. Not just the "puppet", but everything they did in this series was amazing and, in at least one particular aspect, never done before and groundbreaking.
Also, Gina did a lot of her own stunts, because of course she did!
Oh, and there's a different director for every episode, including the main actress from Jurassic World and the director of Thor: Ragnarok, Tiaka Watiti.
The AT-ST in this episode is to show that the empire is dead, so much so that random gangs can pillage and steal stuff like the AT-ST. You'll notice that the storm troopers we've seen so far are kind of dirty an haven't maintained their armor well. But...your instincts aren't wrong.
Hi Nat! Basically there are Imperial remnants left at this time who are hold outs. They don't want to give up what they believe in. The best way I can describe it is imagine the Rebels and the Imperials switched places from the original trilogy. The empire hasn't given up yet but they are scattered and mostly leaderless.
The Rules of the "New Mandalorians" as i call them, is, that you are not allowed to reveil your face infront of another living beeing. I guess if you are that far away, it's allright, they might see that you are without a helmet but they realy can't see your face i guess. Even though the other Mandalorians might be a bit more strikt on that rule.
Also, Nat, those tubs in the tents, that was alcohol. It's distilled out of those blue shrimps the farmers are harvesting.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail? This will be a fun reaction.
Yes. Add Monty Python's "Life of Brian" as well.
Ni
Don't know if she would enjoy that : S
@@Twigpi Only one way to find out.
The blue liquid that was bobbling in the tent is Spotchka, the Star Wars Equivalent of Vodka
Natalie: wow, she is strong
Gina Carano: uh huh, that’s nice.
"I just want to call them at ats" - welcome to my childhood...
lol called them the same. At ats and At sats.
I still call them AT-ATs. It’s easier that way, though not technically accurate. Also chicken walkers instead of ATST
@@yadarehey1130 I also grew up saying "Chicken Walkers." I never was able to figure out how that started.
@John Abbate It’s because their legs look and act like that of a chicken
The beeping of the bomb they placed in the brewing tent reminds me alot of this little ring tone I used to hear when playing Star Wars Force Unleashed on PS2 years ago, I think it was from the Na Shaadah bar fight mission where I heard that rhythic beat
At 5:00 when Cara tells Mando they can't both stay there - this show is like a Star Wars take on a spaghetti western, and one of the classic cliches from those is "this town ain't big enough for the both of us". The idea is that a little place can only have one big dog, or sooner or later there'll be trouble between them and it'll be messy.
Aw, the pupper's named the same as my favorite type of coffee bean!
I think this episode is really cool because they heavily based it off of Seven Samurai and Star Wars has always had roots in Samurai films and Westerns. The Mandalorian in general captures these elements so well! Also I loved how they made the walker into a horror scary thing, it was way more intimidating.
4:22, he's so cute!! And tiny!! LoL!
A very cool debut: the director of this episode was Bryce Dallas Howard, best known as the lead actress from JURASSIC WORLD, but she's also known as the daughter of director Ron Howard, director of such great movies like APOLLO 13, SPLASH, COCOON, and Oscar-winner for A BEAUTIFUL MIND (and also fellow STAR WARS director now as he did SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY)
I know him as Richie Cunningham from Happy Days, lol.
@@doro626 That too, and Opie Taylor
The woman that fights against the mandalorian and later along him is a former mma fighter
You mean, the one that can't act?
@@voodoochile333 She's doing better in her life than you are.
@@voodoochile333 If that is your opinion yeah
She was also in Deadpool
Gina Carano’s acting is better in this than in Deadpool, but she could use some lessons. She’ll get better :)
Your doggie is very worried that you seem to be talking to yourself. 😂❤😀🤔😆😉
"For 900 years have I trained the Jedi". Yoda did not just live 900 years. That was how long he was a trainer. If similarly he were still a baby at 50, then probably Yoda was well over 1,000 years old.
Excellent series Nat.
After you finish Mandalorian, also on Disney+ is a great behind-the-scenes for it called "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian" with episodes covering several aspects of how the show was made.
Gina Carano went full MMA on Mando :D
Gotta respect anyone who can punch a Mandlorean in armor & not collapse in pain.
Great reaction. The AT-ST is more menacing because they’ve said they tried to go with a Jurassic Park feel this episode. And we do know Baby Yoda’s gender, the doctor called him “he” a couple times last episode. Hope I didn’t come off ass the “well actually guy 🤓” lol see you on the next one. Stay safe.
Plus they are referred to as "both you and your boy" by the resident woman.
You look pretty today, cool shirt too :)
I don't have much to say about this episode, but I'd like to say I love the leafy open with the cute "pop". It's so peaceful and calming and a great way to start watching you watch whatever.
Oh, the Imperial remnants are still around (it's only been about five years since the Emperor's death). Likely fractioned off into various warlords vying for power and Imperial equipment falling into mercenary hands and all.
it is soo much fun watching u. seeing someone reacting the way u do is makin me lless crayzy... i guess. stay as u r
A good way to think of the situation post-Empire is Gaul after Rome fell: small kingdoms (or in this case, planets) with pieces of Empire technologies making Feudal warlords of themselves.
Natalie
You are speaking of why stormtroopers and walkers, most of the Imperial escaped to Outer Rims of the Galaxy after Empire collapsed. I think this walker was left by the Empire on that planet.
Random side note: I love your wall art. Beautiful pictures!
Some have mentioned seeing the clone wars and rebels before season 2 of mando and it’s because they’re gonna have a really major character in the 2nd season taht comes from those shows. The shows show u how much of an important person this character is
Awesome Natalie! continue with the Star Wars movie sequels.. Rogue One should definitely be next :)
*Baby Yoda looks at Mando fighting, and takes a sip from his cup*. Natalie takes a sip of her own cup ;)
Hi Nat' ! I would love a reaction to The Witcher !
And by the way, the badass actress playing Cara is Gina Carano, martial artist and MMA fighter ! Explains why she looks buffed ;)

All the thoughts...you verbalized all the thoughts I had during this episode 🤣🤣
This is the best Seven Samurai take ive ever seen in one episode.

Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are going to save the Star Wars Franchise. They are amazing storytellers and weavers of threads. There is so many connections to other stories within Star Wars in every single one of these episodes. I would not put it past either of those men to include characters from the past and future in these episodes. For instance, the matron of the village does has some back story, but we may not be introduced to it until season 2 or 3 of the Mandalorian. It would be interesting if she turned out to be one of the Martez sisters from season 7 of the Clone Wars series. Having Trace or Rafa Martez show up could be an interesting way to introduce another Clone Wars character, and would explain how one is fairly gun proficient. Dave and Jon love doing stuff like that. Just a Theory.
A few of your subscribers have commented on one of the influencers of The Mandalorian, namely the Akira Kurosawa film Seven Samurai. This is a great film, one of my very favorites and I'd like time suggest this for one of your watches. Full disclosure! It's black and white, over three hours long and it is subtitled.
But! It is an absolute classic! And all the best films have samurai in them. Or pirates.
The Empire (as an institution) is no more, but it had several regional governors and troops. When the central government was disbanded, the small cells went rogue and started acting like the mob in each sector. :)
Dropping a line on this Friday night to say I have really been enjoying your videos and the community building up around it. It really is a highlight to my week being able to check out a video here and there. Heck, it has even inspired me to finally get to uploading a video or two as well (had this account for years and barely used it).
Anyways, as usual I loved this video (I would just like to see them done as double features since the episodes of Mando are a bit short sometimes, but that is because I am a bid greedy) :)
It is always great to see someone's reaction and hear their review when they are a newcomer. It reminds me of all the things I liked about the content and how it made me feel when watching it for the first time
Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the next one!
And as always (swiping this from you) Stay Golden!
In answer to your question, Natalie,
This series is set shortly after "Return Of The Jedi"
The female commando, Cara Dune, made reference to serving in the New Republic and saying that there's remnants of the Empire still around
Pupper in background always watching, wanting to no what the "nos" are about
Commenting just before watching this-you are going to love this episode!
For a while last year, I had the same idea to have multiple drinks including water to counter whatever drink I had, specifically when I went out to a restaurant.
Just a health tip heads up Nat:
Diet coke buggered my uncle up, and I developed epilepsy after a long habit of lots of diet coke myself. Maybe coincidence, but get this :
coke now disguises the sweetener name (formerly labelled Aspartame on the actual label) as "sweeteners (950)(951)(952)" etc. A bit bloody shady and suspect!
Just want you in good nick.
Plain coke is sweet yes, but sugar is better than Aspartame!
Or, if you can find it, I looked around and there is a WAY BETTER sweetener from a natural source called Stevia (also tagged "sweetener (960)") - worth looking into.
It's in my Lipton Iced Teas and does a great job!
Your choice all up, just be careful. ☺
Hey Natalie! I just subscribed and thanks for watching and reacting to the great, Emmy nominated The Mandalorian! If no one has mentioned these already - you HAVE put The Handmaids Tale and The Thing (1982) on the list!!!

It is very strict of taking helmet off. Mando stated if he would taken it off, Mando have to leave the Creed. Since he became a Mandalorian, no living thing seeing his face.
The dog has clearly recognized an AT-ST firing just by the first salvo. The look on the dogs face tells.

Oh! My favourate episode!
So, I do actually have a suggestion... "Secret of NIMH". It's a movie I love (and a perfect showcase of what they used to get away with in kids movies... it's rated G! SO wouldn't be any more). Just stay away from the second one.
EDIT: Also one of the only movies of its type where the mother survives (and is the main character too)
_Watership Down_ will always be the arch-example of what they used to be able to slip by the rating agencies.
@@righthandoftyr947 Oh, yea. That's an even better example of that (and another loved movie!)...
Secret of NIMH is a perfect movie which still moves me, decades later.
She mentioned it on her live stream, so whether she saw it or not, she know its exists.
Natalie - "I just want to call them at ats"
Me - "Oh no, you have no idea what you just got yourself into"
AT-AT (The 4 - Legged ones) stands for “All Terrain Arnoured Transport”. AT-ST (the 2- Legged one) is short for “All Terrain Scout Transport”
AtSt's are also nicknamed 'Chicken walkers' (though I am not sure this is an IN UNIVERSE designation.
The awed whisper "what a badass bitch" really cracked me up lmao
As a lot of people have said, this is a retelling of the film "Seven Samurai." But when I first saw it, I thought "this is straight up an episode of Stargate!" In fact, if you listen closely to the music at the end of the episode, it sounds very similar to the music from Stargate SG1 and the original movie.
Can you please watch "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story"?
These videos are a delight. Loved your LORD OF THE RINGS videos. Hope you watch "SIGNS".
Always a pleasure seeing one of your vids pop up in my sub feed :D
RE puppet baby Yoda. I'm pretty sure that was a rumour put around by the Shobogans (bonus points if you get that reference). They do actually use CGI for baby Yoda, but they make it look like they're using a puppet, which stops the uncanny valley look that you can often get with CGI.
She can hold her own alright, she was a famous professional MMA fighter when it was starting out. She does her own fights and stunts in the show.
Really enjoyed this episode!!! You were asking what other movie you could watch, i have a good suggestion for you, hopefully you haven't seen it yet. It's a french movie so don't know if you'll find it or if you'd prefer to see it dubbed in english but anyhow the title is "Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain", think the title im english is "Amelie". It's a whimsical, very original french comedy with a great soundtrack. I think you'd like it alot.
Thanks for everything you do and share with us. 🙂
Five years after the fall of the empire, there are some groups of them left, but this was a case of Imperial ordonance being taken over by a local gang, no affiliation.
Sadly (and luckily, depends) there is a lot of information that you have to look for in other mediums than the movies, if you dig deeper there is so many stories and so much to learn.
i just want to call them AT AT's welcome to the Fandom its literally what we call them
