But mostly downwards mobility, due to lack of handrails.

“He’s probably bleeding a shit ton out of his hand.” Nah bro. His hand was cut off by a legit laser. It cauterized immediately.
Actually it's magnetically contained plasma focused through a "living" crystal that acts as a both a capacitor and amplifier. Lasers, technically LASERs (actually an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation") are merely focused light in specific wavelengths aka packets of photons, while plasma is an actual matter state with mass and tangible substance. Huge difference. Plasma is also insanely hot, like temperature of the sun hot, so in all likelihood both wielder and foe would burst into flames instantaneously upon ignition/activation of the weapon's blade rather than any scenario of simple wound cauterization taking place. Although if it were possible to otherwise limit and contain the level of energy produced in the form of heat, then the concept could potentially work as you stated....
Alright for real though I'm just kinda messing with you lol. I promise I'm not being so clinical in a 100% serious manner haha.
@@jaketheripper7385 laser started as an acronym, but it's evolved and now it's just considered a word. No capitals.
@@KeyDash753 True enough! However it still means the same thing, and is still applicable to the technology. It's kinda like saying "SOCOM"... Nobody ever actually says "United States Special Operations Command" lol. But yeah, I definitely get what you're saying and what you mean.
Yep! Except for Pond Baba, for some reason.
Yeah, how come Ponda Baba’s arm was so bloody? Maybe Obi-Wan turned down his lightsaber for some reason.
"Is it a rule that anyone that uses the dark side has to look disgusting?" YES. It is actually a thing. Apart from the obvious eye color change it also slowly deforms the rest of your body.
This is actually in keeping with the Hayes Code, a system of industry self-censorship that governed many of the old Hollywood movies George Lucas must've seen as a kid. One of the rules was that villainous characters could never be portrayed sympathetically.
Yup, its the corruption caused by the Dark Side of the Force.
George described it as similar to the effects of drug abuse.

The "I am your father" being everywhere really takes away from the experience. when James Earl Jones, Darth Vader's voice actor, was first given the script with that line he thought it was fake it was that much of a mindblowing plot twist.
Yeah I would have been blown away if I had watched it without knowing a month ago (since I was also new to star wars)
Not only that, but the only one in the scene that knew was mark hamill. David Prowse - who played Darth Vader in the suit - would read the same lines that were later dubbed over by James Earl Jones. Except the really wanted to keep it a secret so only Hamill was told. The line he read was “obi-wan killed your father’. NOt only did JAMES earl Jones not believe it, but so did many kids - and a psychiatrist Lucas talked to said kids wouldn’t believe that Vader was his father, so that’s why they put the ghost scene in Jedi saying it was true.
I meaaaaannnnnnn, Vader is literally "father" in German though
@@madhuaditya2008 Actually, Vader is father in Dutch, not German.
Madhu Aditya - The whole “Vader = father in Dutch” thing was actually purely a coincidence. Lucas didn’t even think about the plot twist during the early draft of Empire.
Vader’s name mostly likely comes from “invader” instead, due to his oppressive role in the Galactic Empire’s military.
_"How is Han still thriving?"_

"Imperial troops are still really bad shots"
Welcome to the fandom
Stormtrooper aim is infamous.
They were ordered not to hit Luke, Han, and Leia in the first movie, so they did everything they could to avoid even getting close. Now, for Empire? I got nothing...
I'm glad someone understands that they where told to miss and let them go to track them
And it is all odd because remember, only stormtroopers blasters are accurate from the sandcrawler scene...but yeah, notoriously terrible shots. (see Mandalorian)
Stormtroopers vs Red Shirts. Stormtroopers miss every shot....red shirts die anyway.

Best line in the movie.
@@diggydude5229 And Harisson Ford improvised it
Han Solo...arrogant scoundrel and nerf herder extraordinaire. His only possible response to “I love you” would be “I know.”
Yes!
@@realdocloco More like he argued with Lucas about it until Ford got it like he wanted :p
Luke's failure in the cave was that he acted out of fear and aggression. Yoda told him he didn't need weapons, but he took him anyway, and then when the vision of Vader appear, Luke was the first one to draw a weapon and was the one that started the fight in the first place. He acted out of fear and aggression, and if he continued down that path he would wind up just as Vader did.
greatest quote ever about darth vader - " he just kills people?!?!"
Natalie:" is it a rule at the ones at use the dark side look disgusting?"
yes
Depending on hoping and how much you use it it will slowly destroy your mind and body
Also, the storyteller's have to make it clear to the children watching "THESE ARE THE BAD GUYS!" lol
Nerd (myself) incoming: Prolonged use of the Dark Side of the Force will start to take a tole on the physical body. The Dark Side is notably more conventionally powerful, but has consequences on its user. They have many abilities some might consider to be unnatural.
I'd be pissed off and an angry person too if I was ugly and deformed.
Turns out the Dark Side is very hard on the pores. Lots of oil and grease collecting in those pores. Despite the super-advanced technology of this universe they never developed hand rails or skin moisturizer.
Actually, when Luke was making that jump loop with Yoda on his back, that was NO stuntman! Mark Hamill did all himself, except for the one time in this very movie when Luke is tossed out that window at Cloud City (he wasn't allowed to do it but he wanted to). All else in the entire trilogy, every single stunt move, is all Mark himself. He was doing the Tom Cruise thing already back then. LOL.
And if you managed to get this emotionally invested with Luke in this one, prepare yourself, lady! Return of the Jedi is truly an orgasm for all Luke fans!
Mark Hamill is just pure awesome!
From 4 to 9, Luke has one of the best character arcs.
@@CyberController- I don't know which 8 and 9 you watched, but in the one that everybody else describes the character was shat upon by the script.
He could do a front flip? Wow, go Mark
Ken Berry obviously talking about the original 7-9. The Thrawn Trilogy.
"So like how would they survive?" The Empire has a MASSIVE starfleet apart from the Death Star. That's actually one of the things General Tagge and Admiral Motti were arguing about in the conference room in the first movie (before Vader choked Motti for being a snarky little jackass).
Plus the fact that Empire takes place 3 years later, so they’ve had some time to regroup and recover from the massive loss of man-power, materials and most of all, money.
@@thetwilightgamer meh, they had thousands of systems with full planets of resources and the tech to move between them within days. Losing one small moon sized space station was no big deal, especially since, being a mobile platform, it didn't equate to the loss of any fixed territory. The loss of Gov. Tarkin was the greater setback, really.
@@AntithesisDCLXVI you should watch the episode of Game Theory where he makes a solid case that the destruction of not one but two death stars would have set the empire into a recession.
@Random Ryan yeah, I was under the impression it was 5 when I made that comment
And remember, when the rebels are being briefed on the Death Star, they're told that it carries firepower greater than "half the starfleet," which implies a pretty major fleet already in existence.
Luke: *takes down an entire AT-AT with some grappling and a grenade*

Not-so-fun-fact...
The opening scene with the Wampa was used to explain the scars on Mark's face after having been in a car accident after the first film.
True. He took some serious injury during that accident. Ironically, it also helped is character. For the more serious tone of Empire, Mark would have come across as too baby-faced had the accident never happened.
@@mygeekdom4414 They were worried he wouldn't be handsome enough because of it
Not-so-fun-fact: that's a rumor, the scene was always in the movie even before Mark Hamill was in the car accident.

Great! Now I feel old! I watched this in the movie theatres when I was 7!
They tried having Han say “I love you too” multiple times, but it just wasn’t working. So Harrison Ford improvised what he thought Han would say, and it was perfect.
I just finished watching an Empire Strikes Back watch along that had an actor from some newer content, and when the scene happened, he said that it’s a moment of growth for Han because he looks at her like “I know, and I’m so sorry. This is gonna be hardest on you.” He’s worried about her and how what’s about to happen to him will affect her. That blew my mind! I never thought of it that way.

There were two actors that played Darth Vader.
The visual Vader was played by English actor & body builder David Prowse, but the voice was done by James Earl Jones in Post Production.
The reveal of Vader being Luke's father was HUGE at the time, because they kept it ABSOLUTELY secret, even the cast and crew didn't know the truth.

You commented, in the beginning, that you would have loved to see this in theaters. So, I thought I would share with you my experience. The first movie, was by far, the most memorable Movie experience oh, that I have ever had. It was not the first movie to use surround sound. But it was, the largest seen. So when you sat in the theater, the first thing you get is a loud rumbling, coming from behind you. Everybody in the theater turned around, to see what was going on, behind them. The movie screens, in the day, were much much larger. Most theaters only had one or two screens. So, after the rumbling moved down to the middle of the theater, you looked up. And saw the Star Destroyer coming over your head. While the sound, did the same thing. At the time, it was extraordinary.
And I love that it only took you one movie, to figure out that Stormtroopers can't hit s***.
Wampaa gets his arm cut off: "WOOOOOO HELL YEAH!"

It's called, "The Galactic Empire," there's many, many star systems within the Empire, millions of troops, millions of ships, the Death Star was just one massive space station, taking it out only made a slight dent in the Empire's military forces, and it definitely enraged them, so that's why, "it's a dark time for the rebellion."
millions? china has millions lol... there were over a billion of just stormtroopers stationed on star destroyers alone.. and the majority, were not..
@@RywokastDarkstar5000 Do you have specific canonical sources to back your claim that a star destroyer carries over a billion stormtroopers? I'd very much like to see that.
@@Lost_n_Found_1 i meant the empire has over a billion stormtroopers total.. was very tired when i wrote that haha... according to the official canon there were approximately 25,000 imperial star destroyers in operation at the height of the GCW.. each housed approximately 10,000 stormtroopers meaning there were 250,000,000 stormtroopers just on star destroyers, while the vast majority of stormtroopers were NOT on star destroyers.. the empire was in charge of and subjugated hundreds if not thousands of worlds so you could imagine how many stormtroopers were stationed on these planets

"Han's just thriving, after a night of hypothermia..." If you listen to the dialogue, Han tells Luke "It'll keep you warm till I get the shelter up" so obviously Han took a tent or something with him when he went to look for Luke.
And you can see what looks like a partially buried shelter next to him the next morning.
They're very subtle details though. I used to get confused about that too until the radio drama explained it for me.
OMG, you had me cracking up from square 1.
On Darth Vader:
"Y'know, at a certain point, people aren't going to tolerate you murdering them."

“No, I am your father” Natalie: Evil laugh
R2-D2 is awesome; he's like Brain the Dog in "Inspector Gadget." Doesn't get a lot of credit, but they'd be completely screwed without him.
The OT rules, #GoHawks!!
This made me smile from the coincidence. I've been watching Inspector Gadget over the last few weeks, Mon-Fri only, one episode a day on the CBS app.
Rick Skyes It’s a great show! Penny is awesome too, but Brain is awesome AND hilarious. That poor dog goes through hell keeping Penny and Gadget alive.
R2D2 is actually the hero of the whole series. He saves the day in every episode.
That is a good analogy.
The weird cell that Vader was in where he was without a helmet (and we see the back of his head for a second) is a meditation chamber if I recall correctly. It also has the benefit that once he's inside he can take off his helmet without suffocating as the chamber has the same assisted-breathing technology as his suit/helmet.
That's exactly what it does for him.
That's the exact story I've always heard. The claim I heard is that when it closes, it pressurizes in such a way that it is easier for him to breath. Not having the helmet on helps him relax.
Though I like her idea of a safe room to protect him from fragging.
It's called a hyperbaric chamber. And yes, those chambers are the only places where he can remove his helmet without dying. As far as I know, he sleeps in there.
2:32 - Natalie: Oh no. Oh no.
[Somewhere] The Kool-Aid Man: Oh yeah!
Can we stop saying "Oh no?" Because the f-ing Kool-Aid Man is going to keep showing up! ;)
"He just kills people?!" Best reaction to Darth Vader ever!
Also, to return the favor, here's why I love this: I'm older (probably older than your Dad). When Star Wars first came to my town I was 6, back then it wasn't called a New Hope, that was added for rerelease. It was just called Star Wars and it was the first move my parents ever took me to. I loved it. From then on...we didn't have much money, so a new toy was a big deal, but any time my parents bought me a toy I wanted a Star Wars toy. When Empire came out I was probably 8 or 9 and I knew going in that it was going to be the Greatest Movie EVER. It was so exciting! In those years I probably played as Han Solo thousands and thousands of times in my day dreams (in my play Han also had a lightsaber). By the time Return of the Jedi came out it was like Christmas. I couldn't wait to see it. Been a lifelong fan ever since. Getting to see it through the new eyes of someone who has never seen it somehow lets me relive some of that. So thanks. Very fun to see.
Right there with you. Slightly older - I was 11 when I saw Star Wars the first time. Empire came out when I was 13. ROTJ when I was 16-17. And the mid-70s all the way through the early 90s was the GREATEST time to be a Sci-Fi geek growing up! So much good stuff! Not to say that there's not been good stuff since. But there was just something special about the 80s to me.
And this is why I watch Natalie gold
I was about 8 or 9 when Star Wars came out.
Cinemas were having huge queues, so my brother took me at tea time (about 5pm). The screen was nearly empty, no queues.
@@logandarklighter They really were and it seems as if all the greatest scifi came out growing up in the eighties. To sound really old, movies just aren't the same. It boggles my mind that this movie was made for so relatively cheap at under twenty million dollars (funded by Lucas himself). It's my hope that Hollywood realizes that it's not neccessary to spend 300 million dollars on CGI and we have a return to movies that rely on story telling rather than gimmicks and special effects. I mean ALIENS was made for under 40 million dollars!!!!

Lucas' favorite character was R2 as well. Something else is that R2 was known to curse like a sailor... hence not knowing everything he says.
Dave Filoni carried that on with Chopper in Rebels. He's a foul mouthed little so and so - and Dave voiced him :D
When you come to the conclusion that Vader wasn’t trying to kill Luke in the duel.
He was toying with him, for sure.
Lol! On both their fights, Vader could have obliterated Luke. The only time he was serious against him was in Episode IV, but only because 1) they were in star fighters and so Vader couldn't use his full strength 2) Vader didn't know who Luke was and 3) was interrupted by Han. Vader didn't survive 20 years as the Emperor's right hand man by being a complete weakling. If the scenes in Rogue One and Jedi: Fallen Order are anything to go by, Luke would have stood no chance.
It was an audition/giving Luke a taste of what Vader can teach him. He played with him till Luke managed to cut his arm, then it was time to get serious. Huh, Force Awakens did that exact same thing in the Ren vs Fin saber battle... and it was with Anakin's lightsaber too. Damn.

@Adam 0202 I mean that's not really spoiling
It's not complicated, there just has to be a price for being pure evil. Just like with every other movie villains...
Trapped In A Bagel well, she is going to watch the other movies anyway, so there is no point in telling her this, just removes some of the mystery they built up here
Carbonite Hunter I thought the Emperor’s price of looking evil was really stupid in ROTS
Something I noticed again during this re-watch: When Vader surprises luke in the third portion of their duel on Bespin, he was silent until he attacked, then he's almost hyperventilating, breathing harder and faster than usual. You didn't hear his breathing because he was holding his breath to keep the ventilator from making noise, and is panting to get his wind back. A really nice little touch.
Regarding Vader's Armor: Obi-Wan said in Ep. IV that he was "More Machine Now, Than Man", and you've seen how messed up his head appears to be. I think it's reasonable to assume based on Ep. IV and V that the suit and that heavy respirator breathing is as much about life support for him as it is armor or style. Which, given the quality of luke's hand, says a lot, since the only time we've seen him without his suit fully enclosed is when he was coming out of a hermetically sealed chamber. As for when and how that injury happened, you'll just have to keep watching and find out! :)
I still think "i know," is such a great line. Putting on a brave facade, and basically saying "ill be ok."

It’s an important milestone in the hero’s journey. Metaphorical suicide of your old self. After that, he was that much closer to being a Jedi. ‘Death of youth’ and all that
At first... then one stupid special edition added that horrible scream. I like to think that down towards the bottom he used the Force to move into one of those shafts.
The force is strong with him, like in the deathstar trench.
Pfft. Teenagers...
15:22 "I'm so much more emotionally invested in this film!" You're just taken your first step into a larger world...
"The imperial troops are still really bad shots, so that's consistent." Spoken like a true Star Wars fan, Natalie.
It’s those darn helmets I’m telling you
" only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise." Obi Wan blew that one
When they get away at the end, you can tell Darth Vader is in a weak moment, David Prowse did a amazing job conveying Vader's sadness in his movements.
i would love to see your thoughts on the Firefly tv series and it's movie Serenity. the series only lasted 14 episodes because Fux buried it on arrival, but it is considered by many to be the best sci fi since the original Star Wars trilogy. It was created by and written by Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhous and writer director of the first two Avenger films)
Yes, this one was something to have seen in the theater when it was first released. I was a kid then but I remember much of it.
The theater was tense in the buildup to the ion cannon attack, one of the best scenes in the movie, and everyone was on their feet cheering when it hit the Star Destroyer.
Everyone was focused on the screen during the Luke/Vader third phase. A collective gasp when Luke lost his hand and stunned silence for a moment at Vader's revelation. Most people were shocked and a few reacted kinda like Luke.
There also few dry eyes during the carbonite scene.
Those were the days though. No cell phones or tablets. Audiences generally behaved, but not always. And people would be removed for being obnoxious. The best thing was this was the original cut before Lucas went back and "fixed" it.
Well said!
Those shots of the Imperial AT-ATs marching across the battlefield, with Rebel trooper running for their lives... it's so spectacularly well done. It's super scary.
"dinosaur tanks" 😂😂 I can imagine them trying to keep a straight face while asking for them 😂
"Vader being Luke's father is like the most quoted thing from Star Wars"
It's treason, then.
The Senate will decide her fate.
You: The first one was riding an emotional rollercoaster.
Me: Ooooh, boy, you're in for a treat...
2:50 It's my headcanon that the "best and brightest" of the Empire's armed forces were stationed on the Death Star, other than perhaps the Emperor's personal guard. That's why the stormtroopers were so good (not "good guys" good but "good at their jobs" good) in the first film and so terrible afterwards. After the DS blew up the Emprie had to go on a massive hiring/drafting spree, they took practically anyone human-shaped with a pulse to refill the ranks.
I'm so happy to say I was in the theater day 1 of this movie. When Vader revealed he was Luke's father that was huge on a whole new level for Star Wars fans! I about crapped myself!
17:33 - That awkward moment when your kid would rather die than join you in ruling the galaxy.
Also- I was 13 when Empire was in theaters, and the "I am your father" revelation literally blew our minds. You're just lucky you don't have to wait 3 more years for the next installment.
"Is it a rule that if you're on the dark side, you look disgusting?" Kylo Ren: Am I a joke to you?
Kylo ain't hot bro
@@carameltherelorian2544 a lot of women and men disagree with you.
@@AmandaMcCarterWrites yeah, if the internet has taught me anything, it's that us men have precisely zero credibility when it comes to knowing which men are hot. XD
Yes, he actually is a bit of a joke to me.
Kylo Ren was rotten to the core.
Han saying "I love you" back to Leia would be extremely out of character for him. What made it into the movie is the perfect line for his character.
The wedding bands my wife and I wear are inscribed with each line, respectively.
"Lando's in the crew, now we've got some diversity!
Chewi: ...
And the "I love you" "I know" it's just perfect Han Solo, anything else it's just not him.
That particular line was ad lib-ed by Harrison Ford
Yes R2 is a little badass who always saves the day
"we want tanks that look like dinosaurs" done!, love that.
LoL, "We want tanks that look like dinosaurs" is a spot on comment about the Imperial Walkers.
"Either fight for savage evil, or fight for decency." Succinct. Star Wars.
Natalie, Rogue One provides a better description of the conflict.
"This must have been so exciting, to see in theaters. Especially this movie, because it was like the second one, and people kind of knew what they were getting themselves into and they were fans." Yes indeed!
I was 11 years old when this came out, and had watched the first one 3 times in the theater (a big deal back then for a 7-8 year old) plus on TV a couple of times at least. I remember waiting in line at the theater in Tysons Corner, VA with my parents for an hour or two just to get tickets to see it on the first day. I was so lucky! Love you dad, and miss you much mom!
"do or do not, there is no try" heard that a lot when I was playing the games on SNES
I saw EpIV when I was 3 years 11 months. Imagine waiting 3 years for Empire, VHS machines cost 1200 (4800 dollars in todays money) and VHS movies were $200 (800 in todays money) so no ubiquitous and affordable way to re watch movies. Most of us just had toys, books, comics, self made drawings, countless hours of replaying scenes at recess and in our backyards, speculating on end to what was coming next and what happened between EpIV and EpV. Everyone in the theater, my stone cold dad even was on the edge of the seat for these and shifted in his seat when Vader confessed his relation to Luke. So many of these Spielberg/Lucas/Cameron type movies came out in the span of these 10 years. It was a great time to grow up.
Mark Hamill was in an auto accident prior to making the movie, so thats why he's attacked at the first, to explain his injuries.
16:22 - This is actually called "Storm-trooper aim" in the gaming community 😄
13:17 "You know I think fear isn't as motivating of a factor as you know, positivity"
*me looks at history* notices that every empire was built through force and fear, and not one has ever been built through positivity.
"He has a 3-PO backpack. I bet they made that for merchandise, did they?"
Yep. That was one of my favorite toys: Chewie with the 3-PO in pieces on his back. Loved playing with that. Good childhood memories.
I love your energy, I knew this was gonna be great. Also I like that you really pulled off that 80's look, you look straight out of Stranger Things lol
"It's default setting is to just shoot at anything that makes noise???"
She's watching this for the first time and analyzing it like she's Tom Clancy.
Well she is an adult. Every human I know had seen that movie before they turned ten.
R2 is awesome ... he can fly ships, hack computers, & fix anything electromechanical.
Great reaction video Natalie!
There's somthing so fun about seeing other people watch em for the first time, you get to vicariously relive that unique excitement.
Now imagine waiting 3 years to find out what happens next!
To clarify what Jon Mercano said below, the empire still covered many star systems, with many planets with over a billion employees serving them. It’s just that the Death Star’s destruction showed the galaxy that the empire wasn’t invincible and motivated a lot of people to take the Empire down. As well as the destruction of Alderaan showed much of the galaxy how much death and destruction they were willing to create with little moral or practical cause.
OMG I just started going back through old videos and this is where it came from!
"Grab a drink, grab a snack and let's get into the movie!" It always makes me smile.
I was 3 years old when I watched Star Wars for the first time in ‘79. My aunt and uncle had a TV subscription service(OnTV or Select TV) and a satellite tv service. One random day they told me to watch this cool space movie. I sat down on the floor and as soon as the fox logo and music started I was immediately riveted. Like millions of kids who watched this, I was now obsessed. That year, all I wanted was Star Wars toys. My aunt and uncle had recorded it on VHS and gave me a copy I pretty much wore out that year. That Xmas, I got a ton of Star Wars toys and an Atari VCS. The following May one week after my 4th bday(same bday as George Lucas) Empire Strikes Back was released in theaters. This would be my very first time watching a movie in a theater. Still to this day I can still remember my disappointment when the movie ended. I looked at my parents when the credits started and said, “What happened?” They laughed and said it’s over. “But what about Han? Why did the movie end?” I just couldn’t get my 4 year old head around the fact that the movie ended the way it did and that I’d have to wait years to find out what happens next. As a kid, this used to be my least favorite of the 3. As I got older, I appreciated it more and to this day remains my favorite. I never felt that way again after watching a movie until 38 years later when I watched Infinity War. That feeling as a kid after watching Empire came back to me at the end of Infinity War. It was like I was in 1980 again. Star Wars will always be my introduction to a whole new world.
