Snow Crash is one of my favorite literary pieces, and I adore far more… broken Cyberpunk worlds, like the manga Blame! or the first Matrix. I do and always will love the cyberpunk genre, in all forms.
Just binged the three parts, very insightful for what used to be a niche genre. Thank you for dedicating so much time to make the most detailed and enjoyable documentary possible.

Three parts in and I’m still bowled over by the staggering amount of work and research that goes into each episode. As always, my hats off to Indigo Gaming for this wonderful series. Anyone asks me why I love Cyberpunk, I’ll redirect them to this channel.
This is my favourite part yet! The hard work shows Indigo, you should be very proud. Watching this, it's quite astounding to me how much Cyberpunk has influenced my life through the entertainment media I was introduced to growing up in the 90s, and later taking part in both the electronic music movement, experiencing the evolution of fps games, and being blown away when I saw The Matrix in the cinema for the firs time.
Terrible timing Indigo! I was already behind on work... and now I'll be 2 hours and 17 minutes more behind on my work because I just HAVE to watch this tonight ;) Thanks for your content as always
What a magnificent series. So much amazing stuff over the 3 episodes and we're only up to the year 2000! I can't wait for the next one. Thank you so much.
These are absolutely amazing! My favorite part, so far--about 20 minutes into part 3-- is how each episode has been longer than the last 😅 Truly beautiful job to all involved!!
That is an interesting idea. I mean this series is a good start, but I don't honestly recommend every piece of media I cover here. For example, I covered New Rose Hotel because of Gibson, but it's a very frustrating watch.
@@Indigo_Gaming that’s true. I know I read neuromancer last year and it was tough with all the technobabble. Sometimes what was revolutionary at the time is just cliche now. It’s kind of the same with movies, but then you have the Matrix and Blade Runner. Which are both pivotal cyberpunk movies. So it’s really dependent on each movie.
@@OCinneide For me it helps to imagine the stories taking place in an alternative reality, where those anachronistic tech words are stand-ins for some actual technology we know about. It's easy to imagine the lingo or the tech itself developing differently.
I recommend Existenz. It's the only movie about questioning reality that ever made me feel the question. When you get to the end there's a good chance that you will experience an unnerving feeling unlike any other.
Apart from the two aforementioned masterpieces, I remember (but it's been a looong time!) Akira as having an absolutely fantastic narrative arc. Ghost In the Shell being great too, albeit more slow burning and somber. Absolutely loved Verhoeven's visual tone and atmosphere in both Total Recall (always loved this one) and Robocop. I'd gladly watch the Running Man again at some point, not sure how it holds up though.
That was absolutely phenomenal. Definitely the definitive guide on Cyberpunk, it's influences, history and affect on modern day society. I'll be saving this one to my personals list to watch in 10 to 15 years from now to see how much closer we've come.
Man the enthusiasm you have brought with this trilogy is just amazing. I can't believe it's been almost 2 years. And a year since part 2. Thanks to you and the group that pulled it off
Man, I must have rewatched all parts of this series over 20 times. This is literally my most favorite thing on all of UA-cam. While it bums me out that Part 4 won't be coming out this year, and with the looming issue of the longer it's delayed, the more mention-worthy cyberpunk stuff comes out and makes the prospective length of the series longer (Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners, Midjourney and the AI art scene, Zucc's Metaverse, Saudi Arabia's The Line, etc.), I would still like to express you to take your time with this project. While it is indeed disappointing that the viewership count of the three parts have declined rather dramatically, and work on the series being extremely time-consuming, please know that there are hundreds of thousands of us who will always tune into Part 4 no matter when it is released.
I know some people are disappointed, but it wouldn't be fair to myself or my audience to work on the next part until I'm passionate about it. These three episodes took a lot out of me, but I'm not concerned about more "cyberpunk" coming out and lengthening the runtime. My original plan was to cover up through 2020, with maybe a footnote here or there. History is a lot clearer when you aren't currently living it, so making some grand statements about Mark Z's metaverse or NFTs are almost certainly going to be very dated in a few years.
Oh man I remember playing the System Shocks when I was a kiddo. Scared the crap out of me but I was absolutely fascinated. Shodan is one of the best Cyberpunk antagonists of all time.
This is the most incredible documentary series I've seen on Cyberpunk. Really in depth look at the genre across all mediums. The presentation is truly professional and unrelenting in detail. Really anticipating part 4.
Started watching the episodes of this documentary in order to look for inspiration to improve my Cyberpunk 2020 campaign. Commenting to say that I thoroughly enjoy this series. Highly informative and easily digestible, with pristine editing. Godspeed, Indigo. Keep going strong and never fade away.
I really appreciate the segment for Serial Experiments Lain. It's amazing what that show does to you over the course of its episodic run. The hum of the power lines and slow artistic shift from suburban environment to otherworldly atmosphere was always fascinatingly beautiful to me and - at the same time - creepy. It's one of my top favorites.
@@Indigo_Gaming Absolutely. The slow intensifying atmosphere is almost a character in itself. Watching Lain drift away from reality and slowly assimilate into the Wired while the viewer is occasionally treated to twisted and unexplainable visuals is hauntingly hypnotizing.
My God man. Your work is just awesome. Sound, visuals, script, research, cross media, voiceover, editing and dedication. Not sure why I was not a Patreon member before not. At least I am now. Well worth the admission fee. Honestly, just great work.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my work! These are massive projects to work on mostly solo, so I can't promise Part 4 will be out anytime soon, but it will release eventually.
If i remember correctly, this girl with the swept back hair and vr goggles is the cover of the book "invitation to the game". It was one of the first scifi books i ever read and i would highly recommend it. I never even saw the twist ending coming. Great read. 1:14:28
This has been absolutely amazing. I had no idea just how much of recent culture was inspired by the cyberpunk theme overall. Aside from the amazing production and text - your voice's cadence, inflections, timbre and the high quality of the recording makes this series all the more...breathtaking. Thank you for doing this, it may be studied by our descendants sometime in the future :))
I absolutely love this video essay series so much!! The tone, substance, vision, visuals, nuances both big & small, the history & growth of perhaps the greatest genre of all time, the level of detail throughout parts 1 - 3 and lastly, knowledge based off fact, both grounded in reality while also mixed in with a bit of fantasy. Thank you so much for this amazing finale to what was my absolute hands down favorite video series on all of YT. It’s put me onto so many new Comics, Video Games, TV Shows, Movies & Music. You’ve singlehandedly put me on game to what I now consider the greatest forms of entertainment I’ve ever indulged in. That now continues growing daily with more deep dives stemming from the gems you’ve dropped trough out part 1 - 3! Thank You So So Much For This Series!!! 🙏 Honestly without doubt, deserving of an award in my opinion. Maybe an Emmy or even to the level of a Pulitzer?
No sir, thank you! Without you & everybody else’s help who lended a hand in creating this incredible project sacrificing the blood, sweat and tears for 1,400+ hours just to deliver us this & give such an extensive breakdown + going all the way to the core of this genre is why I commented and give you praise. If all UA-camrs had given this level of effort and attention to detail in their work, the landscape of this entire platform would be absolutely crazy. But since they don’t, there’s these moments when you happen to come across something so special like these videos you’re creating! So again thank you 🙏 & keep up making incredible content for all to see.
What a fan-fucking-tastic documentary series this is. I just can't praise it enough! Also, real glad that there's a brief mention of Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea's _The Illuminatus! Trilogy_ as it's my favorite book of all time (the only one I've ever rated 11/10).

This was insane. The amount of research that went into this series, are astounding. Thank you so much for your work and time!
Snow Crash is one of my favorite literary pieces, and I adore far more… broken Cyberpunk worlds, like the manga Blame! or the first Matrix. I do and always will love the cyberpunk genre, in all forms.
LOL I love how UA-cam started it off with an ad for MTG that said
"I've been waiting for this day for so long"....
Long live Indigo Gaming!
That's hilarious! 😄
This is history that is yet to be tought in school. A truly masterful compilation that can reconnect those who feel disconnected from "reality".
Just binged the three parts, very insightful for what used to be a niche genre.
Thank you for dedicating so much time to make the most detailed and enjoyable documentary possible.
I don't think i have ever sat through 4 hours and 30 minutes of UA-cam doc before, in one sitting and without a break... Very well done indeed!
Glad you enjoyed so much! Thanks!
I don't think I've seen a more comprehensive game/genre doc on UA-cam or literally ever. What a trip. Can't believe this is available for free on UA-cam. Thanks you have a new sub for sure
Three parts in and I’m still bowled over by the staggering amount of work and research that goes into each episode. As always, my hats off to Indigo Gaming for this wonderful series. Anyone asks me why I love Cyberpunk, I’ll redirect them to this channel.
It's an amazing work.
👏👏👏
Would you have a "definitive" list of movies that you'd recommend that are pivotal to the cyberpunk genre?
OMG, it's out!
Thank you Indigo, you just made my day!
Thanks to you and the group that pulled it off
This is really a comprehensive look at the genre. Better than anything I can possibly imagine on television.
@@Indigo_Gaming That's great to hear. Either way, keep up the fantastic work. I'm gonna go rewatch all three all over again lmao
That was so good that I think I'm gonna re-binge these
Hey man! Glad you enjoyed. Took a lot of work putting these together.
@@Indigo_Gaming I can tell, your stuff is awesome great!
ive re-binged these probably weekly. im hoping for part 4.
All I can think as I wrap up part 3 this morning
Watched the entire series twice now.
What a masterpiece, can't wait for part 4!
I've seen your Cyberpunk documentaries several times now. Amazing work!
I'm glad they're so rewatchable! Thanks.
God-tier atmosphere in that show. Amazing stuff.
Without a doubt the single most entertaining and comprehensive documentary on cyberpunk and other related genres I've ever seen.
Glad to hear it!
I rewatch this series like therapy. I can't wait for the next part. I want to see all the cyberpunk gems I missed within the 2000s and 2010s.
This series prompted a deep dive into Cyberpunk a couple months ago for me. Excited to see part 3 hit my feed
Finally a good Christmas 🎄
My God man. Your work is just awesome. Sound, visuals, script, research, cross media, voiceover, editing and dedication. Not sure why I was not a Patreon member before not. At least I am now. Well worth the admission fee. Honestly, just great work.
Absolutely unreal. I've now watched all 3 parts (parts 1 and 2 twice!) and I was blown away by this series and can't wait for more content.
I'm so glad you enjoyed my work! These are massive projects to work on mostly solo, so I can't promise Part 4 will be out anytime soon, but it will release eventually.
@@Indigo_Gaming your work is inspiring and worth the wait!
If i remember correctly, this girl with the swept back hair and vr goggles is the cover of the book "invitation to the game". It was one of the first scifi books i ever read and i would highly recommend it. I never even saw the twist ending coming. Great read. 1:14:28
The production quality is so high on this one!
My most anticipated UA-cam video. Really awesome work!
This channel is criminally underrated.
This creator deserves more recognition these documentaries are top level
A seminal compilation of all things cyberpunk together with first class editing. A truly enjoyable series! Thanks for taking the time to make these ♥
ooooooh yeaaah
thanks a lot for this longtime coming video
Simply fantastic and a treasure trove of recommendations to anyone even remotely interested in the genre
The tone, substance, vision, visuals, nuances both big & small, the history & growth of perhaps the greatest genre of all time, the level of detail throughout parts
1 - 3 and lastly, knowledge based off fact, both grounded in reality while also mixed in with a bit of fantasy.
Honestly without doubt, deserving of an award in my opinion.
Maybe an Emmy or even to the level of a Pulitzer?
Thanks for the high praise! I'm glad you got so much out of it, and I appreciate the comment.
@@jdiigiii Couldn't agree more. This documentary thoroughly lays out the canon of Cyberpunk for all time, or at least until this simulation ends.
this is the best documentary series I've watched on UA-cam in a long time.
Comment for the algorithm brother. Appreciate the hard work and the commitment, can't wait to get home from work with a cold beer and watch.
I'm counting down the days the future feel so distant a lot of things have changed a few have been resistant
Thank you Indigo for sharing this
This is the best reference on the origins and evolution of cyberpunk I have ever seen. Outstanding work, truly extraordinary.
43:24 Henry Rollins as a ripperdoc is like the best thing I've ever seen
