I believe this started out as a love song - then when his father got cancer - it turned into a mantra for him in support to keep fighting his battle. Amazing song with two of the best and most distinctive voices of the 80's.
The combination of Kenny’s smooth voice and the unmistakable power of Michael MacDonald’s voice makes this a great song. This was a huge hit when it came out. Thank you Harri for your fantastic reaction. 😊🇨🇦
I love this song. I remember to My father Thanks to GoD Alive and many emotions. Pretty duet of singers. Greeting Harry, excelent reaction . One hit of him "Heart to Heart"
I saw Kenny doing this tune live at Tanglewood Amphitheater in Massachusetts as the last song before the deadline curfew so Kenny started it at 9:59 at played on and on for over 20 minutes. We were dancing on the seats !
So I would say...this IS Yacht Rock!! So good and SO smooth. Anything with these two tremendous singers/artists is phenomenal! This song had heavy airplay back then on AM radio. Thanks!
Harri...you have found one of the best songs with 2 of the best singers!! Thank you! Another song by Michael is "I Keep Forgetting". And Another by Kenny is an Earth Day song "Conviction of the heart" Do you know them. I read that Kenny wrote for his father who was battling cancer and was frustrated. He lived several more years, I believe. You do know the music of Gabriel Henrique don't you? He could do justice to songs by either. "What a fool believes" their other collaboration is so beautiful.
Loggins and McDonald co-wrote "I Gotta Try" and each put out their own version of it. Listen to both and compare! See also "You Belong to Me" co-written by McDonald and Carly Simon, and recorded by both Simon and the Doobie Brothers. Enjoy!
The first time Kenny Loggins met Michael McDonald face to face (Michael had contacted Kenny to collaborate on songwriting through Tiran Porter, the Doobie Brothers' bass player), he walked in on Michael playing the chorus to "What a Fool Believes." However, that's all Michael had. No lyrics, just the chorus melody. They completed the song and Kenny says he couldn't sleep that night because he knew "we had a big fish."
Oh what a song!! The perfect blend of two of the most recognizable voices of the time. Michael and Kenny, blended together for a masterpiece. So beautifully written. Love Michael's duet with Patti Labelle singing " On My Own" . Not sure if you've reacted to that one Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
His father had a cancer and his mother was already gone and he wanted his dad to fight harder to stay around. Kenny was is so encouraging in this song.
This is the song Joe Montana listened to before playing the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XVI. I can understand how Joe would be inspired by this Kenny Loggins song. Another great choice, Harri.
Hi Harri. Would enthusiastically like to request The Hooters. An 80’s band that seemed to be influenced by the Beatles (big surprise). Yet they had their own unique sound. Many great hits, maybe start with “And we danced”. Think you will enjoy!
Love it! 💖 As I recall...I think this song was about his father. You said 'groovy,' and that reminded me of one of the grooviest Scottish female singers from the '60s, Lulu. She was once married to Maurice Gibb of The Bee Gees. From the movie with Sidney Poitier, To Sir With Love: ua-cam.com/video/EV1qmmMwc9M/v-deo.html Also, another song by her: Oh, Me, Oh My. ua-cam.com/video/0X0WYqiPYjI/v-deo.html B.J. Thomas sang this one as well. Other than Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head, this was another hit song: I Can't Stop This Feelin'. ua-cam.com/video/Wqt_iZBvtCo/v-deo.html

Oh man Kenny loggins is so incredible, and what can I say about Michael McDonald? Just two great artists and a perfect song.
The combination of their voices is SWEET!

This timeless jam is on my playlist. Great selection.
Another great duet that Kenny loggins did is with Steve Perry of journey. It's called don't fight it.
YES!!!
Kenny and Shanice outside of Redwoods live doing Love will Follow. Epic
His arrangement of "This Is It" in the Redwoods rocked, too! I have the DVD...highly recommend!

One of the most inspirational songs ever written!

You really knocked it out of the park today, Harri! Big thanks for the truly great tunes!💙💙💙

This song never fails to send me!
Kenny has alot of songs..for me this and "im free" always put me in a good mood.
Cheers for the piano on this one!!!!
I watched a live version on UA-cam. They were just as good or better. Kenny sounds like Michael Jackson in the beginning.
Wow. We used to do this in the band band in the early 80's.
It's like God made a duet for the ages.

Take a look through the Loggins and Messina songs , some real gems in there

He wrote for his dad was near death
This is such a beautiful song but I’m not sure if I heard it with just Kenny Loggins before or if Michael McDonald did it with him always.
There’s a jazzier more acoustic version of this from them at The Redwoods that is so delicious you will swoon!
How could you go wrong with these two?
I thought that Michael Jackson did some backup on this also. Probably wrong.
