I was in my freshman year in high school at this time - not at Loara - but I remember this band. How far we have fallen since those days - all history - never to be seen again. thanks for posting!!!
Loara H.S. was a marching machine back then....yes, not a single diagonal out of line in this video. And their sound in those days was tough to beat...Poway High School was just beginning to emerge as a powerhouse at this time. I'll never forget the incredible 98.2 score (I believe) at Long Beach All-Western Band Review in 1975, if I am not mistaken. Long time ago, memory's kinda slow....I was a sophomore at Mt. Miguel that year and we didn't even place....the only time that our band lost out completely in my 4 years there. Thanks for the memory and the video!
Hey, that's my junior year! I played the Piccolo, I think I was on the side away from the camera (of course). Is this at Santa Monica? And when did we ever march in the Spring? (Maybe at La Mesa)? This march always sounded to me like 'Listen to the Mockingbird' at one point. Remember countless hours in the school parking lot trying to get that opening sound just right. Marino was a GENIUS!!! Thank you for posting so we can relive those days. :)
misrocks, me too. I played pic. I know you, MC. in this vid, I'm in the third row, 2nd pic from the left. next to BW on the end. I am having such a wonderful time watching and hearing this! just listen to those piccolo runs at the beginning... oh, yeah
