Your enthusiasm for homesteading is so inspiring to watch. I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
i will say that, no matter what you do, in 30 years if that willow is still there, it will be a big tree lol... the trunk will be 3-5 feet around and that thing will do what it wants :) But for now, while it's small, you can control it, for sure. Willows are a powerhouse of a tree... they get BIG
I took about 150 will tree cutting from my local lake. They are all 6 to 8 feet long. They all rooted super easily. I left them rooting and overwintered them in my basement window. In the spring i put them in biodegradable tall tube looking pots. I planted them all behind my fence in a criss cross fashion and made a fence. Its about 6 feet tall and looks like a regular chain link fence but the holes are about a foot in diameter. As the trees thicken up the holes will shrink. Eventually my fence will need to be replaced, but the trees are the replacement. I want it to be about 12 feet high when I'm done. I even wove in a space for me to add a gate. Its an 8 foot high and 8 foot wide archway. I'm going to frame it in with bricks so the trees won't push into it.
Do you know if managing the size of the tree will also help the roots not be so big/ potentially start damage? I have plenty of space between the tree and other things but I’m still trying to be aware of their aggressive roots before I get one. I’ve been dreaming of it forever so managing the size seems like a good option!
I bought a wheeping willow from a store about a month ago that was half dead. It is coming back to life I'm in need of information as to how to trim it, your video is helpful for the future. Alot is going on with it at the moment. I also believe the top half is dead. I want it to thrive and need help. Can I trim it now in July or should I wait until next spring? Should I leave the top on even if it appears dead?
I got a willow from the nursery. IT was root bound so I used a saw to cut the ends off the root ball. It wilted terribly but has since started growing tons of shoots off the highest branch. No other growth lower down the tree. How do I get a tall tree that has a nice round canopy
I bought a home with a weeping willow that is probably at least 10 years old. Can I still use this to prune this tree. It has grown really tall. Is it too late to begin the pruning process and shortening the tree
You are too young to forget your tools. I always wash my tools with detergent and alcohol after I used it. I'm glad your active in posting videos again.
Is it too late to trim my golden weeping willow? I have 3 leaders all the same size and I want to eliminate 2 to the one central. If I cut it now and that's bad what will happen to it? Tree is 7 ft tall. 3 main leaders are roughly 1 inch in diameter

It requires lots of weaving and pruning but its fun.
You should post a photo! That sounds amazing!

I have small (5 feet) cuttings from a willow bush. Top pieces are dead but bottom is alive. Should I cut the top pieces..?

Zone 5…I’m in zone 2 and I’ve been trying to get my willows to grow much more than 5 feet in 13 years.
