Honestly I had more fun with base rise than I did base world. There's too many weird things in world that didn't click with me. The scoutflies, the mantles/tools, the awful weapon designs, the sound design felt bland and the environments were large and pretty at the expense of being in your face and everything still being joined by linear paths making it a pain to navigate. But MHW is the thing that's helping Capcom keep MH alive for us. You don't have to like it but you need to accept the truth.
@@justascaredgreycat1869 I mean 'killed the franchise' as in Capcom casualized it to the point of no return and it can no longer be considered Monster Hunter. My Classic family is somewhat tight-knit; I dont know any Fifth Fleeters and intend to keep it that way. We just come from different communities and you need to accept that.
I grew up on this game. Me and my buddies used to all hangout in my mom's garage after school and just hunt for hours on end. There was eight of us so we'd always have two groups and switch out people if they needed something specific. Such good times, if I knew where my psp was I'd definitely play this again just for nostalgia because I know it's still on the disk drive. Also this game taught me how to play claw style well
God I remember being introduced to the MH games.. We were on vacation in America and went to Best Buy where I checked out the games section to see if there was anything I could add to my PSP collection. Then I saw a cover with some tiger-like monster and a guy with a giant samurai sword which immediately got my interest. Turns out you had to either buy games in Europe for a Europe-purchased PSP or the other way around, so I had to freaking buy another PSP to play. Boy it was so worth it. I had never stuck to a game for so long wherever I went. Everything was significantly hard for me but also rewarding to complete. The frustration of having no green-sharpness weapons while still having to beat Yian Kut-Ku was the first challenge to overcome but afterwards things started to make sense. Now that I think of it I can’t imagine I had beaten White Fatalis in MHFU (or MHF2) as a 12-year old but then again, I wouldn’t be able to now. I was such a fan of almost every monster solely for the fact that most of them made memorize their movesets and strategize accordingly. It was a beautiful time leading all the way up to MH World/Iceborne and up to this day I still enjoy every hour I put into the game. The only thing I was hoping for is a sequel to Iceborne or atleast some form of open world online version of the Frontier/Online titles in Asia to spend the next 5 years in. Oh well, here’s to years of happy gaming.
Mh1 the game that decides that monhun genre will always be in my heart Remember PS2 MH attacking was not Triangle and Circle button but using the camera stick as attack. Oh childhood
this game made me learn all weapons available, because each monster had a gimmick that simply unables the effective usage of some weapons. Tigrex, for example, was great to fight with any shield weapon, since he won't stop raging and running you over.
Been over a decade since I started this franchise with Freedom 2 as a kid, I still listen to pokke village when working or doing anything. THE FEELS!!!!!! (and that double plesioth quest at the hub but we don't talk about that)
Older franchise has the spice of survival in it. No tutorials, no guide. Everything is punishing. Preparation is the key. Then until you hit the yian kut ku wall where you can finally feel monster hunting. Pokke became home for most since finally they try putting some sense to the world. The areas are more vivid unlike its predecessor which are a post apocalyptic horror zones. Also prob mhf2-fu is a so fking hit back then and released at the peak of psp. Tri was supposed to become the renaissance of mh with its underwater combat however its exclusivity to wii only made it fell short. Hence p3rd.. (they also thought water combat is not fun with that conclusion which is stupid). and then comes the advent of 3ds games with capcom water testing new funky ideas in each franchise. Story finally incorporated with 4 which is good and then the final goodbye with X and XX. Industrial revolution finally happens with MHW. And i tell you what. MHW/MHW:I IS A FKING MASTERPIECE!! Living/ breathing environment, no loading zones, RESEARCH (i love scoutflies), somewhat ok storyline with nergi as the batman (mild spoiler) and SOS flares! Holy fk, it is definitely the accumulation of all our dreams way way way back tribal times. The golden era of mh games which however casted a huge shadow to the following game. Rise gets the treatment of either you do better or youll turn to be worse. But imo its still early to tell without sunbreak hitting the final nail. But itll be amazing to see where the franchise is going. Prob itll be some gundams in the future or a pvp because all the monsters are fking dead because of these bullshit anime-ish movesets and longsword cutting space and time continuum. Who knows. I love monster hunter.
I was fortunate enough to have started with the first game where it all began and played all the amazing games except for Frontier and Online, despite that i shall always consider Pokke village my MH home, i never left that game despite having wonderful new games at my disposal such as MHWI and GU. Something about it feels unique that any other games have yet to offer, although MH3 is a close second, can't quite put my finger on it but i love the simplicity of FU and grounded combat where i must survive the monsters. I still have my PSP intact and my character that i still play with every now and then. Claw finger gang Rise up! May we get a remake of it in near future, hopefully before or after the next mainline game.
it would be really cool to se a remake. although i wouldnt really like to see the new hunting form i prefer the older positioning over counter gameplay.
played the original MH on PSP. Learned the claw position to move the camera angle while hunting. I still remember the infinite GS combo I used to do under a Rathalos's shadow when he was about to land. :D
BROOOOO. Thank you so much for making this video 🥲😂👏👏👏 Though I started on MHF2, MHFU was definitely one thay kept me playing with its more monsters. The Pokke village bg theme music is gonna be stuck in my head and will forever be a music that triggers nostalgia hahahah 😂😂😂
Hearing LAMIA play throughout the Plesioth fight is so fitting in the most macabre and traumatizing way. Oh yeah, Tigrex too. How can I forget that lovable bastard?
Have you guys ever sliced preys in half? (Velociprey/giaprey/genprey/ioprey) *This happens rarely if you use Greatsword/Longsword with a final blow of vertical slash while the preys are in midair (the vertical slash must hit them when they pounced at you)* I've played MH, MH2Dos, MHFU, and this thing happened in my experience. Their body will be sliced in half and fades, so you can't carve them. But you can see their body getting sliced in half tho
Ah~ the good old gathering quests where you can fail because of RNG. I used to bring the mega, good, and old pickaxes/bugnets AND the crafting materials to craft it and ALL of it breaks before i get all the quest items. Fun time :)
I learned from a lot of mistakes for Lao that eventually the easiest was to take up a pair of dragon dual blades and demon dancing at Laos right hind leg, demon mode grands you windproof so you won't be affected by his stomp winds, and if you deal enough damage he topples for more than 30s and you can go over to it's belly to dance for optimum damage. Once i learned all of that it was more of not flinching him too much because if i do he'll just retreat immediately on the 20min mark so i have to purposefully let him reach the last area within the time limit and make sure his whole body was in before i can kill him in a single hit (or dragonate him or something, i don't remember if he retains 1hp or a threshold.) Also, you can get all 9 carves off if you crouch before carving his corpse and roll in-between the depleted areas
Yup. We should always consider how bigger the community is nowadays, compared to times when FU, Tri etc. were released. Like, sure, with Rise we saw how many people with “duckling syndrome” are in the community, but saying same thing didn’t happen for every title would be false. I’d personally even go as far as saying that percentage of loud controversy minority is still the same (around 3% at worst). It’s just that: 1) there’re more people in the community; 2) content creators are more likely to cover controversial topics due to how Social media work; 3) Loud minority now can either be a content creator or just in general has an easier way to express their ideas
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was epic and a proper difficult game to solo online mode. Mane matches too me the full 49 mins. I usually hammer Lao as well, and only use hammer for him. Other than that it's GreatSword or Bow all the way. I spent over 600 hours on this. Now I look back and think. All those gathering etc gone to waste. Pixels sitting in the corner of that red box somewhere. Nice vid nostalgic indeed.
Good times, I’ve bought a new console for every new monster hunter that I could (buying the “ultimate” versions for them) except portable 3rd since that one didn’t release outside Japan. Even got base world twice for example xD. Also started out with freedom unite and only because when I was on a school trip my mate told me to get this psp game he happened to have with him on said trip saying that we could play together and the rest is history.
Playing MHFU is such a godsend for me. I Basically cheesed MH3rdP and while playing MHGU, I only need to familiarize the Hunting Styles. Ahtal-Ka was a really fun Monster to fight, the only "Elder Dragon" that made me pumped up so far. MHFU has a really simplified attack moves yet I really, really like it since it is me first game.
During the worst years of my life I discovered MHF2 while talking to some people I knew on a rental store, we had all bought psp's coincidentally during that same period and then started playing Freedom 2, we gathered at my place and did 1500 hours on it, and then Freedom Unite released, and 3500 hours later we created another character to clock more 2000 hours. This fucking game gave me the best friends I've ever had during the worst time of my life, I am very thankful to have discovered this back in the day. All that said, after playing World, I find these old games unplayable, I watch these nostalgia videos and I wonder "man how tf was I able to clock so many hours into this" lol
im sad in fact im 28 and i love games I played them A LOOOOOT and... for some arguments I don't understand I missed MH and MHW was my first MH that will be the same like these first monster hunters your guys. MHW was my greatest adventure of all games and no elden ring no witcher no skyrim no other games can do repeat that. There will be only monster hunter world and now.. I'm making my steps at rise.
Stop killing us with the nostalgia. Omg.. those hunts back in the day are just so different. We really have to be invested to progress. The sleepless nights grinding thru adhoc!!!!
This was actually my first monster hunter game because it was free for ps plus one month, I think around the same time I also got freedom wars for free
Man, no lie. It's weird seeing Tigrex's old appearance after seeing him in World and Rise. I'd love to see Lao Shan Lung return. Would be interesting to fight him and Shen Gaoren with updated moves and mobility and such
As MHFU veteran when I still can't forget my reaction when is suddenly dodge an avoidable attack cuz Capcom keeps nerfing these hit box. still today whenever's I fought a nargacuga and Rajang and I dodge it it doesn't seem to be normal it's like playing baby mode
If I'd give 1 word to MHFU, it's G(old) Currently playing the game and my intro to MH since last year. Through all it's flaws, love this game to it's core
You forgot to add the infamous Diablos + Black Diablos quest. I got disciplined trying to get the best hammer in the game with their mats, honestly the hardest quest I ever did and I played through gen ultimate, world and now rise
The lao quest is probably my favorite quest in that game. Does it take forever? Yes. Is it a good fight? Nah not really. But the theme playing as I fire the dragonator into the massive mountain dragon, in defense of an entire city just PUMPS ME UP. And I’m so glad they brought that back for the final phase of fatalis in iceborne
The absolute power of “Proof of a hero”.

@@jackstack2136 delusional boomer with dementia chill, new ≠ bad
Who remembers playing monster hunter on PSP, it brings back good memory, the golden fish was the best fish for me.
That throwback part of the videos is freakin awesome. Almost stared tearing up.
I can’t tell you how many times I paused the video and took a deep breath out of nostalgic frustration.
My and my wife just started replaying generations ultimate yesterday, these games just hit different
This is the first Monster Hunter I played, when I see this video it gives me chill
It's been a while since I haven't watch one of your videos, I'm happy to be back >:)
every monhunt fan first journey.
i always remember how eagle cleaver and its progression was my favorite LS
Mh1 the game that decides that monhun genre will always be in my heart
Remember PS2 MH attacking was not Triangle and Circle button but using the camera stick as attack. Oh childhood
bro lately ive been thinking bout this game so much, i miss those times. Great video dude!
this game made me learn all weapons available, because each monster had a gimmick that simply unables the effective usage of some weapons.
Who knows. I love monster hunter.
started playing this game over a month ago and I cannot stop
BROOOOO. Thank you so much for making this video 🥲😂👏👏👏
Though I started on MHF2, MHFU was definitely one thay kept me playing with its more monsters. The Pokke village bg theme music is gonna be stuck in my head and will forever be a music that triggers nostalgia hahahah 😂😂😂
Oh man how i wish for a remake but keeping the good stuff untouched
Hearing LAMIA play throughout the Plesioth fight is so fitting in the most macabre and traumatizing way. Oh yeah, Tigrex too. How can I forget that lovable bastard?
My first ever true monster hunter game (started with tri but never took it seriously) played over 300 hours of it
Have you guys ever sliced preys in half?
(Velociprey/giaprey/genprey/ioprey)
*This happens rarely if you use Greatsword/Longsword with a final blow of vertical slash while the preys are in midair (the vertical slash must hit them when they pounced at you)*
I've played MH, MH2Dos, MHFU, and this thing happened in my experience. Their body will be sliced in half and fades, so you can't carve them. But you can see their body getting sliced in half tho
Yes but every time i did that its an accident lol
Strangely i never had that happen to me :(
Reminds me of my 2g days. That music hits home
MHFU is such a goated game. It truly teaches you just how to be good at dodging and learning that some monster can and still do have stupid hitboxes.
Gotta love the Hitboxes, brings back so many memories.
Me and my brother still have PSP and we have MHFU there we finished the game (solo quests and Guild quests) through patience and hardwork.
Ah~ the good old gathering quests where you can fail because of RNG. I used to bring the mega, good, and old pickaxes/bugnets AND the crafting materials to craft it and ALL of it breaks before i get all the quest items. Fun time :)
my God! the editing of this video is simply amazing!! +1 subscribed, as I hadn't seen it before man
I learned from a lot of mistakes for Lao that eventually the easiest was to take up a pair of dragon dual blades and demon dancing at Laos right hind leg, demon mode grands you windproof so you won't be affected by his stomp winds, and if you deal enough damage he topples for more than 30s and you can go over to it's belly to dance for optimum damage.
Was my first monster hunter game on Wii u did alot of solo hunts remember stressing so much good times🤣
I feel like the label of "most controversial" could be applied to every newest instalment in the franchise that has been coming out after MH2
Thats what I have about Hammer back in the days. Short distant evasion and short reach
This game is pure gold, thank you Chilled T for bringing back those beautiful memories
That Kezu hitbox always took some time to get used to.
MHRise - Most Controversial
**Laughs in MH3
never thought I'd listen to Lamia in a mh videos.
This video is so great, stylish, I love it.
Also, Zhongli's theme strangely fits MH
Another masterpiece! (MH3U is my most nostalgic MH game tho)
Always good of you to be back hope your doing good
im sad in fact im 28 and i love games I played them A LOOOOOT and... for some arguments I don't understand I missed MH and MHW was my first MH that will be the same like these first monster hunters your guys. MHW was my greatest adventure of all games and no elden ring no witcher no skyrim no other games can do repeat that. There will be only monster hunter world and now.. I'm making my steps at rise.
I swear if people say sunbreak is "too hard" im gonna flip, do a roll and stick it on the bum
Stop killing us with the nostalgia. Omg.. those hunts back in the day are just so different. We really have to be invested to progress. The sleepless nights grinding thru adhoc!!!!
This game was my childhood. God, the things I'd do for a remaster
If you don't know, if you use a frog and fish were Plesioth Is . You will fish him out of the water and he be tople on land for a few sec
frontier on ps2 and/or psp is the most nostalgic one
This was actually my first monster hunter game because it was free for ps plus one month, I think around the same time I also got freedom wars for free
Tbh, mhgu as most creative is kinda funny with it literally getting most of its content from other mh games.
Coming in hot with the PGR soundtrack! Nice
Man, no lie. It's weird seeing Tigrex's old appearance after seeing him in World and Rise. I'd love to see Lao Shan Lung return. Would be interesting to fight him and Shen Gaoren with updated moves and mobility and such
this was my first mh game and I have played every game after since, planning to get mh rise soon
I saw the thumbnail and knew INSTANTLY. Only game I played besides rise, fun even though I sucked
Mhfu where its always hammer time
I still go back to mhfu in my Vita, first experience with mh was with a psp demo disk(remember those?)of the game. Lance main ever since.
I loved the boss cards you gave the monsters
As MHFU veteran when I still can't forget my reaction when is suddenly dodge an avoidable attack cuz Capcom keeps nerfing these hit box. still today whenever's I fought a nargacuga and Rajang and I dodge it it doesn't seem to be normal it's like playing baby mode
Oh boy, I sure miss those wonky hitboxes and cryptic deco system!
MH2Dos/MHFU were something else man... enough nostalgia to make a grown man cry!
Literally makes you cry
Plesioth of the pond, tell us your wisdom: "The whole universe is my hip check hitbox."
Yes, hipcheck was a real annoyance back then, but you know what's worse? When that shark died in water.
chilledtiger cooping with jsm in mhfu would be an awesome collab amirite
I still remember when I kiled a daimyu cenataur in under 3 minutes using long sword ah nostalgia
Pokke village music takes me back..
If I'd give 1 word to MHFU, it's G(old)
Currently playing the game and my intro to MH since last year. Through all it's flaws, love this game to it's core
You forgot to add the infamous Diablos + Black Diablos quest. I got disciplined trying to get the best hammer in the game with their mats, honestly the hardest quest I ever did and I played through gen ultimate, world and now rise
I think it was 2 black diablos and yes that hammer and quest are a pain in the ass
As someone who played through this game with my buddies as a kid, freedom unite is absolutely horrendous.
Monster hunter Freedom sera de esos juegos inolvidables
MHFU still has the most beautiful OST with Pokké village.
When you forgot to throw paintball. And you dont know its flight pattern😆😆😆😆
yeahhh mhfu where most monster has legendary hitbox plus the bulfangos jesus 😂
btw when i hear the pokke village theme it hit so hard so goood
6:08 damn defeating tiggy with a hammer, ur a chaddd. Reach High Rank and defeat 2 Tigrex HAAHAH damn it brings back memories...
This is why I love emulators, because you have the option to play these games even when the machine they're on becomes obsolete.
*plesioth hipcheck flashbacks*
