I have been to a few of the East Fortune Air Displays but never attended the one in 1999 because I was on holiday. I was interested to see that Mark Hanna landed the P-51 on the runway at East Fortune. The only time I ever saw warbirds actually flying off the East Fortune runway and landing again was in 2000 when - the evening before the display - there was a special event for enthusiasts. A few of the participating warbirds actually flew off the runway and these included a Hurricane and a Blenheim. I believe that in the early 2000s there was some hope that East Fortune might become a 'Scottish Duxford' with warbirds based at the airfield but that never happened. There is really no Scottish Airshow scene now to compare with the 1970s when we had Strathallan, Prestwick and Leuchars.
