Can we also appreciate how stunning Rose McGowan looks in this episode? Her hair, makeup and all her outfits in this episode - she looks absolutely gorgeous. Makes me miss her strawberry blonde look!
One of my favorite scenes in this ep. is when Chris and Grams are arguing and Grams says, "Are you giving me lip?" and he just goes, o.O "No." I think Chris' reaction is hilarious and very reminiscent of the reaction any great grandson might have to being told off by his great grandma when he forgets who he's talking to and needs a reminder. It's a nice little clue the writers gave us about who Chris really was before the reveal in ep. 14.
So we have every possible case. He flirts but the sister doesn't: Paige. The sister flirts but he doesn't: Phoebe. Both flirt: Piper. Neither flirts: Prue.
I love this episode, too! "Have you tried talking to the slime?" Best line!!! And, yes, Leo is a bit of a creep. He watched over the girls since they were babies, and then married one of them.
Makes the Elders look slightly better. Perhaps they didn't want them to be together because they thought it was icky that Leo wanted to sleep with a lady he's known since she was a baby
Tbf, he also knew that he had dated her in a past life, which makes it slightly less creepy. I just wish he wouldn't mention that he'd been watching them since they were babies lol
Its so refreshing to see someone who has Paige as their favorite sister. She is mine too but i seriously thought i was crazy when people disagreed with me on it! Everyone i know says Piper and i do like her too.
I just think it's great that you'll always get a different answer whenever you ask a favourite sister. Prue fans tend to be especially vocal but it seems everyone is balanced
My favorite used to be Phoebe when I first watched the show as a kid, then it became Piper as I got older, and now lately it has been Paige. Probably because she is the most like me, and I have a special affinity towards characters I can relate to. Even right down to the social worker aspect. Paige is underrated in my opinion ❤
The sun-god moment is BRILLIANT and hysterical for me too lmao! Also LOVED Chris!! Both hilarious (some of the BEST faces and reactions) and intriguing. His character helped me heal from the disastrous end of Cole.
Chris' reaction to the sun god comment is all the more funny b/c at this stage he knows what everyone else doesn't, that he is Leo & Piper's child which adds a whole other level of funny when he finds out Leo was a bit of a dog.

This episode is a lot of fun! It is very theme park version of the 60s as you said, but it didn’t bother me too much since it was a lighter episode anyway that was mostly using the period as set dressing. That’s actually really interesting that this is the last appearance of a warlock in the show. And also the last appearance of levitating Phoebe. With them removing powers due to budget cuts, you’d think they would want to make more villains the normal human appearing ones as opposed to the otherworldly demons lol.

@@BetterWithBobif you ever do a break from Charmed and decide to do another Buffy video, I really really really really hope it is a video on either SURPRISE/INNOCENCE or BECOMING.

I love that Luther meets the sisters and they give him the uniform and that makes him turn his life around and become a cop and then that insipires his son Darryl to become one too and he ends up meeting the sisters.
yea,, i don’t get the hate - this eppy is a load of fun // it’s always charming to see how Charmed covers certain time periods, eras and historical events - i enjoyed this “nearly out in the open”, collective, psychospiritual and coven-like approach to Charmed-universe witches operating in the Summer of Love it’s interesting to know now that the Penny storyline was meant for Mama P - i would have liked to see that bond deepen between Paige and her bio mother, but i also agree that adapting this story around Penny dimensionalized the Grams character more // i LOVED seeing Penny’s character in an extremely vulnerable position, undergoing a transformation and i liked seeing the actors work the balance of Penny’s warmth, openness, support, motivations of love, warrior spirit and we even get to see Grams be humorously hands-off in a battle what’s the problem with that?¡
I loved this episode. I don't really like Time Travel but it was done interestingly here. I like that Leo could remember Paige visiting and Grams not (because of the potion). My favourite is where Grams (the present-ghost one) is turned into her hippie version and we can see that if she didn't become the bada$$ witch that she was, The Charmed Ones would've never came to be or would've died very early one. The Halliwell name would also not have that fear attached to it if it wasn't for Grams. GRAMS IS AWESOME!!!!! (except for how she treated Wyatt in the beginning)
I love your references to other movies or pop culture in general! Please never stop doing it ❤ PS: is your friend Nathan single? asking for a friend...
I love Witchstock but thought the B plot was really cringy - now with the explanation of it being an homage to 1960s movies like the blob it makes so much more sense and adds to the episode. Thank you!
Love this episode! Also my bday is 1st August so I have it on good authority that I must be magical as my bday is right between Paige the superwitch and a rather popular wizard hehe.
As someone who's always been a sucker for 70's and 60's music and aesthetic ever since I was a kid I feel I'm a little biased with my love for this episode.
This is a fun episode because it showed Grams as something more than just some hate filled witch who despises men. I respect they gave us a more interesting backstory to Grams.
@@BetterWithBob Absolutely! All we ever know about Penny is that she raised the girls after Patty died, she drove away Victor, she doesn’t like men in the family, and she been married a million times. No backstory just tidbits of information we finally got some insight with this episode.
I enjoyed this review of the episode, but I have to disagree about who the strongest sister is. If you go back through all the episodes Piper is the strongest sister and takes out the most bad guys with her powers alone, not to mention how steady under fire she was after she became the oldest sister. I love all the sisters to varying degrees and Phoebe will always be my favorite, but if I ever needed a charmed one to protect me or to get advice from, it would be Piper.
You once again have managed changed my mind on an episode I wasn’t a fond of. I always thought it was a fun episode but couldn’t get over the continuity issue before this lol
so in this episode, we saw that penny and leo knew each other from their younger days. but on forever charmed, when piper and leo went back to time to see grams, penny doesn't recognize leo.
I guess this episode does jive with the girls' ages if you keep in mind Penny had Patty when she was 12. I'm not kidding. Check the dates on the family tree. Penny was born in 1937, and Patty 1950. That's 13 years. Less because Patty was born in April and Grams in June. So in 1967 Grams would have been 30 and Patty 17. Although the tree also said Grams died in 1963, and they never edit it at any point during the series.
Penny's birth date was retconned into 1930. The family tree in Pardon My Past is disregarded because it also says that she had two brothers and her husband's name was different
I really enjoy that episode, but I'm bugged by some inaccuracies and I don't mean the various continuity issues. First of all, the spell that brought Paige back to the 60's shouldn't been working after Gram's death. Secondly, the girls couldn't use their powers, because they were in the past. However, Piper managed to cast a spell, which should have been impossible. Also, the warlock is able to freeze good witches, but since season 1 we know that good witches don't freeze. Last but not least, white lighters hook up with witches and mortals, whereas there's a big rule against it.
My head canons are: *The binding spell was only undone on Grams's death because she put something in that spell specifically to have that happen - say she and Patty were killed while they were still children, she'd want them to be able to defend themselves. So all other spells are still intact even after she dies. *The sisters' active powers don't exist in the past, but they are still witches, so they're able to cast spells with an incantation. Both Phoebe and Piper seem unsure if it'll work but they try it at least. They're able to tap into the magic of their family line whenever they time travel, as long as it exists in the time they go to (they couldn't in All Halliwell's Eve because Melinda wasn't born yet) *The Charmed power of freezing doesn't work on good witches. The warlock's power was different, and we've seen beings like the Avatars and Angel of Destiny able to freeze time indefinitely and work on good witches. Robin must have accounted for that somehow *I suppose if you think about how big the world is in general, the Elders have a lot to watch over, so they can't be completely omnipresent. The Summer of Love lasted basically just a year or so, so Leo might have gotten away with it without being caught
This is one of my favorite episodes and I still don't understand why it is hated. Penny is played by a different actress yes, but if you portray the past there has to be some cutoff date where the usual actress would look too old so that's not really a reason. Yes I always thought they goofed Patty's age in this episode but only because I never really knew her actual age, when I found out she was 16 at the time the issue resolved itself
It's disliked largely because it's obvious this was meant to be an episode about Patty, not Penny. Penny came of age in the 1940s and was already a wife and mother by 1950 when she had Patty. Patty it would make sense be a bit of a flower child when she was 20, and pregnant with Prue. The episode is frothy and funny, but knowing that Penny was swapped for Patty makes it a bit harder to enjoy at times. One thing this and the season 2 episode "Pardon My Past" have in common is that magic was practiced openly at the Manor, and it's never explained why.
@@MegaMagicdog A difference between Pardon my Past and this one is that here there are only witches in the manor and they only practise magic inside meaning nothing would get exposed. Is there proof that the past portion would have been set during Patty's pregnancy with Prue? As ot stands now it makes marginally more sense for Witchstock to be about Penny (imo) because Patty was 16 at the time.
@@elecrom_9757 In Pardon My Past we don't know if any of the speakeasy clients were magical folk- it seemed as if they were not. Mysticism was popular at the time so I wouldn't have an issue with people who were interested in it to seek out a drink, get portraits taken by Past Prue and get their fortunes told by Past Phoebe. At least one guest was aware of placing curses on people, so that's also possibly something else to include. As mentioned in this video, this story was meant to feature Patty. It makes much more sense for a teenage girl (and as Finola Hughes played her, she was a sweet and quiet woman for the most part) naive to life's shortcomings to get swept up in the hippy dippy movement and have a friend like Robin who would ultimately betray her (ever know someone who got close to you just so they could get something of yours?). The character would have given birth to Prue around 1970 (per Prue's headstone) so she should have been dating or preparing to marry Victor and participating in the party at the Manor. FTR, the Summer of love was 1967, so Patty would have been 17.
The demonic slime fed on magic period, not just whitelighter orbs I thought. That’s why it was lured out when Phoebe levitated, no? I should also say I appreciate the time, resources, and research you do for your videos. Especially when bringing in other influences in the media, like the blob. That movie scared me as a kid lol. Also, Leo is TOTALLY a creep. They either forget how he has been around the family in a past life or as a white lighter and somehow fell in love with Piper? Despite in a past life being her former lover? Possibly relative maybe? And then with Grams in the 60s, inferred they hooked up maybe? Idk just sooo bad
You have to remember that past lives do not actually look the same as the current live and that the elders might not have a way to check a soul if it's reincarnated from someone that interacted with the family before. The only thing that is weird in this episode is that the elders are allowing whitelighters to have a party but maybe the management was more lax back then^^
It seems silly to head canon this but perhaps the Elders thought the whitelighters would be good to have at the magical be in as some protection/help in case evil attacked
@@elecrom_9757 not true though. Leo tells Piper the elders show them their past lives when they become whitelighters. Her tells her this in Pardon my Past. I’m just trying to figure out the timeline because it doesn’t make sense. That takes place in the 20s? How long was that life lived before he entered the world as Leo and went to the war to die? And then became a whitelighter to be around grams in the 60s?
I always liked this episode regardless of how the fandom feels, but let me tell you this, it always bothered me that they kept saying ‘’The Blob’’ (that’s what I’ve officially dubbed it), feeds off magic, because it makes it grow yet in the beginning when Chris orbs out to Hong Kong and then when he returns with Phoebe, the blob doesn’t appear, if it feeds off magic, wouldn’t The Blob appear both times just off Chris’s magic? Also how does Grams change in the present despite being dead but no one else changes? If she stayed a hippie, then she raised the girls a hippie/pacifist so wouldn’t Chris be one too? Or would that have been too obvious a reveal of who he really was? LOL. The ‘’steel toed orthopedics’’ joke is hilarious. I think Kara is so beautiful and did a great job as a young Penny, yes, Patty would have been great but i like the Penny. Storyline. Also of note, why does Grams initially dislike Leo in the series if she knew him in the 60s? Unless it’s just that she doesn’t approve of him with Piper?
@@RocketRoketto does she dislike Leo? I just remember her encouraging Phoebe to accept him and Piper in Magic Hour? She doesn't trust him after killing Gideon though 🤔

So Grams look like this in 1967 and like an Middle Aged woman 8 years later in 1975 (1x17). Pure is supposed to be born in 1970 so patty is going to get pregnant in 2 years…
could you do a video on run piper run at some stage? its one of the better episodes of series 8, particularly for billie fans. I love when they put Leo in dodgy wigs. Not on the level of the spikes he had in the season 6 finale but still amazingly bad.
I am personally not a fan of this episode. It just doesn't make sense for it to have been a young Penny. She was much older in the 70s episode, which in the timeline, is just a few years later. Prue is born in 1970, so for them to establish that she needed to be dropped off at her aunts house, made no sense. Then there is the matter of witchcraft being out in the open. Penny still only being on her first marrige. Penny was born in the 20s.
Good episode, except for the time line. In 1976 Patty was a mom with 2 kids and pregnant with a third but less than 10 years earlier she was a young girl and kept off camera. No way is Patty 24 in 1976. But I agre Jennifer Rhodes knocked it out of the park.
@@susanstorm7910Prue probably would’ve been very powerful had she not been killed. However, I don’t understand why people mention her when this topics comes up. Yes Prue was a Charmed one but she passed away. The latter Charmed Ones were PIPER, PHOEBE, AND PAIGE. So when the discussion of who’s most powerful comes up the focus should be those 3 (in my opinion)

i love the hippie movement and the fashion, i feel its been making a comeback
Yeah I have a few friends who are really bringing it back lol
I loved this one! So fun!!!
yea,, i don’t get the hate - this eppy is a load of fun // it’s always charming to see how Charmed covers certain time periods, eras and historical events - i enjoyed this “nearly out in the open”, collective, psychospiritual and coven-like approach to Charmed-universe witches operating in the Summer of Love
it’s interesting to know now that the Penny storyline was meant for Mama P - i would have liked to see that bond deepen between Paige and her bio mother, but i also agree that adapting this story around Penny dimensionalized the Grams character more // i LOVED seeing Penny’s character in an extremely vulnerable position, undergoing a transformation and i liked seeing the actors work the balance of Penny’s warmth, openness, support, motivations of love, warrior spirit and we even get to see Grams be humorously hands-off in a battle
what’s the problem with that?¡
I'm not even sure if I buy the story that this was a rewritten Patty episode because I feel like it suits Penny much more
I loved this episode.
Ah she learned from her mistake quickly enough so ^_^
A huge continuity problem you didnt mention: The size of the book of shadows compared to Pardon my Past
I love your references to other movies or pop culture in general! Please never stop doing it ❤
PS: is your friend Nathan single? asking for a friend...
Spoken for, and the lady in question keeps telling him to watch The Craft, so she has excellent taste ^_^
I love Witchstock but thought the B plot was really cringy - now with the explanation of it being an homage to 1960s movies like the blob it makes so much more sense and adds to the episode. Thank you!
I think that's what they were going for anyway
Love this episode! Also my bday is 1st August so I have it on good authority that I must be magical as my bday is right between Paige the superwitch and a rather popular wizard hehe.
As someone who's always been a sucker for 70's and 60's music and aesthetic ever since I was a kid I feel I'm a little biased with my love for this episode.
This is a fun episode because it showed Grams as something more than just some hate filled witch who despises men. I respect they gave us a more interesting backstory to Grams.
Yeah if this was meant to be a Patty episode I don't see how it could tell us more about her, whereas Penny needed that Spotlight
@@BetterWithBob Absolutely! All we ever know about Penny is that she raised the girls after Patty died, she drove away Victor, she doesn’t like men in the family, and she been married a million times. No backstory just tidbits of information we finally got some insight with this episode.
i absolutely love witchstock
Hehe thank you
I'm surprised we didn't get a discussion about the continuity error with sun god's age (no not Nathan, Leo).
so in this episode, we saw that penny and leo knew each other from their younger days. but on forever charmed, when piper and leo went back to time to see grams, penny doesn't recognize leo.
I love the word "Groovy" I wish Gen Z-ers would revive that word.🎉
I'm doing my best to bring it back. I often respond with "groovy cheeks" (bastardising a Kenan & Kel quote)
7:00 that clip was when Cole figured out Phoebe and Paige switched bodies so he wasn't technically flirting with Paige.
Really fun,i wish that genuine hammy fun woith a chaaraxter plow wre making a comeback. Comedy is really suited to shockwith drama.
Sungod :P
Please do a Chris character video. He's my favourite male character.
One day sure lol
My head canons are:
*The binding spell was only undone on Grams's death because she put something in that spell specifically to have that happen - say she and Patty were killed while they were still children, she'd want them to be able to defend themselves. So all other spells are still intact even after she dies.
*The sisters' active powers don't exist in the past, but they are still witches, so they're able to cast spells with an incantation. Both Phoebe and Piper seem unsure if it'll work but they try it at least. They're able to tap into the magic of their family line whenever they time travel, as long as it exists in the time they go to (they couldn't in All Halliwell's Eve because Melinda wasn't born yet)
*The Charmed power of freezing doesn't work on good witches. The warlock's power was different, and we've seen beings like the Avatars and Angel of Destiny able to freeze time indefinitely and work on good witches. Robin must have accounted for that somehow
*I suppose if you think about how big the world is in general, the Elders have a lot to watch over, so they can't be completely omnipresent. The Summer of Love lasted basically just a year or so, so Leo might have gotten away with it without being caught
I loved Paige with red hair, even black, but that brown hair was dreadful.
The colour she goes at the end of Season 6? Weirdly enough she only did that because fans voted for it on a TV appearance
Approx. 11.43 As a 32 year old thank you *so* much for that thought.
But seriously, I love your vids!
My parents always taught me to share so I'm sharing the pain 😉
I loved this episode! Just didnt like how much of a creep leo was😂 this show is a comfort show for me❤
I loooove this episode, i also love Kara Zediker as a young Penny :) !! .
I like her a lot
I really liked this episode! Did it make the most sense? No, but it was fun.
Exactly lol
Let’s get a “all grams” episodes video
*Grams would be 93 now. I'm guessing she would have been in her late 60s when she died*
68 I think 🤔
How in the Hallihell do you not feature one of the funniest spells of all time!! 😆😆🤦🏻♂️
“Come to me, you can’t refuse.
I got a girl to introduce.
Fall for her, you can’t resist her.
Trust me mister, she’s my sister!” 🤣🤣🤣
Ps the 90s have to be the best fashion decade 😬
@@LovetheLuvRecords hmm possibly but I'm getting nostalgic for the 2000s now 😅
I always liked this episode regardless of how the fandom feels, but let me tell you this, it always bothered me that they kept saying ‘’The Blob’’ (that’s what I’ve officially dubbed it), feeds off magic, because it makes it grow yet in the beginning when Chris orbs out to Hong Kong and then when he returns with Phoebe, the blob doesn’t appear, if it feeds off magic, wouldn’t The Blob appear both times just off Chris’s magic?
She doesn't trust him after killing Gideon though 🤔
oh could u do an anatomy episode for cat house
Yeah I've been considering one for all the clip show episodes (Someone to Witch Over Me and Generation Hex included)
I am absolutely thrilled to find your page. I run a fandom page tiktok (95k followers, not to flex TOO much) and this content is awesome. I'll be credited you in all my edits if using your content! Hope you reach back and say hey!
Heya!
@@BetterWithBob you replied 😃
So Grams look like this in 1967 and like an Middle Aged woman 8 years later in 1975 (1x17). Pure is supposed to be born in 1970 so patty is going to get pregnant in 2 years…
could you do a video on run piper run at some stage? its one of the better episodes of series 8, particularly for billie fans.
I love when they put Leo in dodgy wigs. Not on the level of the spikes he had in the season 6 finale but still amazingly bad.
Love that episode and have been considering it :)
I could not agree more with you. The 70s and 80s really had the worst fashion
like this episode it funny
There is definitely a warlock that appears in season 7 or 8. I mean maybe I’m crazy but doesn’t a warlock team up with a demon in s8.
The ones in Kill Billie Vol 2? I think they're both demons
💗💗💖💖💗💗💗💗💖💖
I am personally not a fan of this episode. It just doesn't make sense for it to have been a young Penny. She was much older in the 70s episode, which in the timeline, is just a few years later. Prue is born in 1970, so for them to establish that she needed to be dropped off at her aunts house, made no sense. Then there is the matter of witchcraft being out in the open. Penny still only being on her first marrige. Penny was born in the 20s.
The worst fashion is 00s. Thank you.
Nah the 2000s are coming back and I couldn't be more excited lol
@@BetterWithBob trust me, I won’t look good with orange tanning, low rise jeans, flip flops and belly button piercing😂
heyyyy nathan ☀
How about the "Lime Jell-O Demon" for a name?
Doesn't really inspire fear does it lol
So she went from that young, vibrant redhead to old looking grams in less than 10 years? Really?
Good episode, except for the time line.
In 1976 Patty was a mom with 2 kids and pregnant with a third but less than 10 years earlier she was a young girl and kept off camera.
No way is Patty 24 in 1976.
But I agre Jennifer Rhodes knocked it out of the park.
Penny is too young in that episode. It is set shortly before Prues birth! And when you know
" this 70s episode" from season 1,it' s even worse.
I literally have no idea why you nicknamed your friend sun god.. Did I miss something in this episode? lol
Paige says to Leo at the end "hey there Sun God"
@@BetterWithBob I remember it now. I guess for some reason, this part just never stood out to me, lol.
Sadly, I find hippies way too cringworthy to enjoy but young Penny was hot, I'll give tham that.
Your friends fine af
An extremely beautiful person on the inside as well
Paige is the strongest Charmed One? America explain
Exactly! I think some people equate the amount of powers she has to her strength. She’s powerful but I dont think she’s the “strongest”
@@CashUnlimited8tysm! I’m glad someone agrees. Prue is the most powerful, imagine where her powers would’ve gone
So when the discussion of who’s most powerful comes up the focus should be those 3 (in my opinion)
nah I enjoyed witch stock
Early 2000’s is the worst fashion era
I dont like this episode i found it boring and dragged so many other episodes that are better
Unfortunately I don't like this episode it's one of the worst episodes in the series to me 😬😖
To each their own :)
i cannot believe i wasn't subscribed to you! youtube algorithm kept recommending your videos to me so i thought i was! subbed! i love this channel and hell yeah, the house of halliwell shoutout!!!
